Quick question here. After I flash my Galaxy SII with the CyanogenMod, if for some reason I want to go back to the previous rom that I backed up, do you always have to do a WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition) before you flash the new rom?
Apologize for the noob question.
You don't HAVE to, but don't be surprised if you have random fc issues. Just use titanium backup to backup apps and restore.

Great, thank you!
Quick question: Don't have the necessary amount of post to post this in the following forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823
When I got to apply the zip from the sdcard, I get the following error:
e: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Yesterday, I flashed the CLOCKWORKMOD-RECOVERY FOR GALAXY S II (AT&T) and rooted it. Then I installed Rom Manager, made a few backups, etc.
When I open Rom Manager, I do see the following:
Current Recovery: ClockworkMod 4.0.1.5
Now, I believe this might be due to installing the ClockWorkMod in the Rom Manager, would this be the issue I'm facing?

I had this issue as well. I reverted back to stock and rooted/flashed CWM from the xda thread instead. ROM Manger version of CWM must be for international only.
So to clarify, I need to flash this back to stock and re-do the process correct?
Did you use the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286192
Also, theirs a update.zip in the root of the sdcard. When I go to apply it, i get the same error message as above.
E: failed to verify whole-file signature and so on.
Do I need to apply this zip at all?
Okay, was able to install the rom. I was doing it wrong. I needed to power off the device, then press Vol up and power. Some reason, getting into CWR that way seems to work, rather than when you boot into recovery from the Rom Manager app.
Yeah I'm pretty sure at this point ROM Manager is useless for us. I'm definitely going to avoid doing anything through RM until they have it set up for the ATT version.
Dont use RM for CM7 for now.

I'm surprised that worked. It should be VolUp + VolDn + Power.
Don't use ROM Manager. It caused nothing but problems on the Infuse, and is causing nothing but problems here. Use the CWM included in every custom kernel that has been posted here so far.
If install cm7 will it change the file system like it did on the captivate

Just so I'm crystal clear, that means you need to power off your phone and do the Volume UP / Down and Press power to enter CWM correct?
Which brings up another point, according to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823
You have to press Vol Up and Power button. But for my AT&T Galaxy SII, i have to press both Vol Up/Down to get into it.

I just rooted the phone, and installed the clockwork mod, using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099, did everything correctly the only difference was that my phone did not reboot (at least I don't remember that it did, I believe I just had to turn it on myself). Anyway, I then installed rom manager and "flashed clockwork recovery". I later tried to "reboot into recovery" through Rom Manager and when it booted through the stock recovery (2e) It displayed the following "failed to verify whole-file signature" and it said some other crap. What should I do? My phone is running stock OTA 2.1 ea28 and I want to put EB01 or something of that nature. Help me please.
update: i just uninstalled Rom Manager, i just read that its not always compatible and creates problems...what should i do now? should i use odin again to reinstall clockwork?
Dont use ROM Manager, its not 100% fascinate friendly check out my guide @ androod development. Dl cwm in step 8 and flash it with odin
ok i just flashed it with odin using your file, but since I don't have rom manager anymore how do i access clockwork recovery, (in other words how do i flash roms now)?
you can boot into recovery for holding down the up and down volume buttons while it powers up, until the samsung logo appears. then choose "install zip from sd card".

it takes me to stock recovery(2e) and there is no option there to "install zip from sd card"...I'm confused...am i missing something?

Follow the steps.
yeah dude, you got it. you can flash any ROM of your choice.
But before doing it, go into Recovery mode and ALWAYS wipe Data(unless told not necessary), cache, Dalvik(find this in Advance)..!!!
Press "Thx" button and please leave post in my guide so others will know it works.
thanks a bunch! i don't know what i'd be doing if it wasn't for your help. running froyo now. thanks!!

Hey guys,
Yes I know there are so many threads about this. Yes I have looked at all of them. No I don't understand what's going on. No, there is no simple answer. I have spent the last 3 hours trolling the interwebs to find the answer and there is no intelligible one (I can find) to this problem.
I have:
- Galaxy S2 i9100GT
- Vodafone AU
- Just flashed kernel: CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KF2-v4.0-CWM4
- Then install CWM
- Success
- Enter recovery mode.
- Bring me to Android system recovery <3e> with following error:
Installing package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Tried:
- Taking my 32gb SD card out (did not help).
Someone in some thread said to do this:
1, Click the CWM Manager Icon in tray
2, Reboot into CWM recovery
3, Wipe data cache and Dalvik Cache
4, Install from zip
5, Reboot & restart into recovery
6, Install from Zip
7. Wait 1 min or so
8, Cyanogenmod loads!! - Yay
- WTF is Dalvik cache? (more importantly, do I need to know?)
- Install WHAT from zip?
I am a noob and about to cry. I hate myself. Help
EDIT:
Model number: GT-I9100T
Android version: 2.3.3

Uninstall the cwm app then reboot. Reflash the kernel and then reboot again. The unsecure kernels have cwm and superuser built in to them you do not need. To install anything else.

Seems like you're booting to recovery using some app? Just power off your device and hold Volume Up + Home + Power all the way until you're in the recovery menu.
If you can't handle this you should use the Cf-root kernel in original android development under sgs2. Its the simplest to install and get you running

I did what you said and I can't find any CWM app in the apps list now. However, like prodygee suggested, when I enter recovery from off CWM works.
Is this how it's meant to be?
Thanks.
P.S. Also, how would I go about 'unrooting' the phone and getting Samsung Kies back on there? I think I prefer the stock tbh. I'm too much of a noob.

Unroot flash full stock rom reset custom rom counter to zero.
and getting Samsung Kies back on there?
Kies is part of stock firmware .

You might have a CWM manager app in you list, The CF-root kernel installs a custom CWM manager. Look for a little grey cog with CWM across the front of it but if not it doesn't matter.
Welcome to the world of Root !!!!!!!!
Hi,I am having similar problems with my Samsung galaxy s2.My build number is Gingerbread.XXXKI3 and the baseband version is I9100XXXKI3. I have been trying to backup my rom by using rom manager. It kept giving me the same error E:failed to verify whole file signature. So then i looked up some posts and i tried using the cwm which was loaded after rooting and when i click backup, it boots my phone and then says
android system recovery 3e and there are no recovery or backup options.Just
reboot system now, apply update from sdcard, wipe data and wipe cache partition.
Below all that in yellow it says succesfully copied media files. And some other stuff and then successfully applied multi csc.
Can someone help me backup my rom.
Trying to do a backup before installing a ROM and this is as far as I get. Have reinstall clockworkmod but no good. Any ideas?
Signature File Error - Clockwork Mod
Similar. Got my Samsung Galaxy SII, Sprint, rooted, but having trouble with flashing Clockwork Mod. Recovery 3e requires signature verification for flashing external files, so it's puking when I try to flash Clockwork Mod. Throws error can't read file signature. This must be coming up a bit: how do I bypass this requirement or otherwise get a full Recovery going so I can start flashing ROMs? Was up until 5 am on this, back at it...

Fixed it

However it did something to my screen, it works but colour balance isn't right
Best method:
1. Flash the Codeworkx kernel.
2. Power off the phone.
3. Start CWM recovery.
4. Select Backup.
5. Done.
Thanks for help but this did not work. Lost wi-fi and root as well flashing this, so could not Reboot into Recovery. Went back to ZedoMax kernel. Still looking for how to get past file signature issue. Yes, I know I'm a noob but I do not wanna give up. Any thoughts super-welcome.

Problem was my kernel says only 2.6.35.7, so not able to select which of the many kernels might be correct. One very interesting development is that now when I try to flash ClockworkMod Recovery, it lists my exact phone, Sprint Epic 4G Touch. But still barfs when I try to unpack those files due to file signature issue. I really feel stuck.
Hi peeps
(I've tried looking for related posts but nothing comes up with my stuff)
I have downloaded Rom Manager Premium and also downloaded clockwork recovery, how ever every time I reboot into recovery to install i get this
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
I have flashed the file before using Odin but i get other stuff saying E: cant mount (random stuff)
My phone is rooted
What am i doing wrong?
Rom Manager & CWRecovery don't work together on the SGS2. It's one or the other. For example, if you have CWRecovery installed (as a result of rooting your phone with a CFRoot kernel, for example), using Rom Manager has a tendency to break CWRecovery and/or put your phone into a bootloop.
So you're going to have to decide what you want to use.
Also
I have noticed I have Clockwork recovery once and I flashed a new ROM and i was left with the stock recovery. Is that normal too?
Depends what you used/did to flash the new rom. If you flashed it in CWRecovery, then that's unusual for it to be broken purely by flashing a custom rom meant for a I9100/T. Not completely unheard of mind you, but not usual.
If you used Rom Manager to flash the rom when you already had CWRecovery installed, then as per my previous post, it's obvious CWRecovery was broken by Rom Manager.
Again as per my previous post, one or t'other. Up to you. But use both at your peril.

So would you recommend that I remove ROM manager and just flash CW Recovery?
I wouldn't recommend you do anything/use one over the other. I'm just saying that you run the risk of having major problems (bootloop/broken CWRecovery) if you have both on your phone/try to use both.
Personally speaking, I've never had a problem rebooting my phone into CWRecovery every/any time I want to flash a rom/kernel/backup/restore.
Up to you which you use.

It looks like Im having problems with my boot recovery as I try to use clockwork its saying cant mount, even trying to access SD CARD.
Is there a way of clearing every thing and starting again?
Also when I use clockwork recovery
Anything I try to do i get this
E: can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
What rom/kernel are you running and how did you root your phone ?
You could try flashing a CFRoot kernel from here, if that doesn't work you should probably get your stock firmware from here and flash that in Odin. After that you can use a CFRoot kernel to root your phone.
That will give you a clean slate with CWRecovery working.
Edit to add - Yes, you're getting that in CWRecovery because Rom Manager obviously broke it as I've already said.

hello, i looked all around but cant find answer for my issue. I just got this samsung s2 from my friend and it is already rooted with darkside rom on it. I downloaded rom manager premium to install new roms but every option i use keep giving me errors.
Tapped Flash ClockworkMod Recovery>Clicked on Tmobile S2> gives this error "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"
Tapped Reboot into Recovery>Nothing Happens
Downloaded the stable release CyanogenMod 10.0.0> It downloaded gave me options for wipe data which i clicked ok but after that nothing happens also tried going into SD and installing it but no luck.
Tapped Fix Permissions...> "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"
Tapped All clockworkMod recoveries> Tried all 5.0.2.6, 5.0.2.7 and 6.0.1.4> gives error "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"
Sorry if I posted this in wrong section but just kinda off because i was soo excited to get 4.1.1 jelly bean and got this :/

Rom manager does not work well with the SGS2. first you need to find out what phone you have. go to settings > about phone and look at the model number. then you need to find a rom that fits our phone. go to get.cm and download a rom for your model. if you have a GT-I9100, there's no stable CM Rom yet, but the nightly works quite well. if you have a 9100g or a i777 or anything else, see if there's a special forum for that on xda. that would be the place to post. to boot into recovery, press "vol. down", "power" and "home" buttons until you are in recovery. find the Cyanogenmod 10 thread in your phone's forum and follow the installation guides in the first post.
to simply boot into recovery, press "vol. up", "power" and "home" buttons until you are in recovery.

Dont use ROM Manager on the GS2.
Instead just flash Siyah kernel, It will come with a CWM Manager designed for our device.
PS. If you had used search before creating topic you would have found many topics that already discuss ROM Manager.
