Trying different kernel [Wolfbreak ROM] - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I'm currently running v6 stock of wolfbreaks ROM, however I would like try perhaps some of the custom versions.
Is this still a matter of simply downloading the ROM, then installing the .zip through xrecovery?
Thanks

no not mostly all needs to be flashed thru Flahstool and only few thru xrec...and u can go for either Dooms or Z's kernel there are lots out there but do remember to backup everythin !!
hope it helps

There isn't a list of the 'Top 5 Roms' because everyone has there own preference. I would recommend that you look around & install what catches your eye, if you don't like it.. Try something else.
wat about the unlock issue then?? will my phone get locked again if i install a rom??

[Q] running two roms

hi hello frnz plz help me out...i am not much used to flashig....i managed to install CM6.1.3 on my xperia...i want to try TripNMiUI froyo,...my bb is 54.....i jus want to knw how..to run trips rom without rmoving wofbrks rom.....i mean not backing up..bt can i get an option like boot frm any of the two
Nope dual boot is not possible for now, the only way is backing up that you yourself mentioned
Just backup both roms with xrecovery and you can easily switch between roms by restoring in less than 5 min.
That WOULD be an awesome feature to have. But yes unfortunately, as mentioned, your going to have to back up and restore. Which shouldn't be too complicated.
DooMLorD is working on something of this sort of stuff.
basically dual boot manager.
Definetly cant wait for this feature
k thnk u guys fo ya reply.....so lets wait n c...if some devs come up with tat awesome feature......n tat will make our xperia..a BOMB....xperia roXXX...:-D

yes.......
To avoid flashing each time you should just install trips rom and then use the bbpatch to fix it... or wait a few days as trips rom is almost on unified baseband... which means it can be installed on any.... hope this helps

slow down it takes tym to gt a reply..
anyhow i m here
1) All custom roms are rooted so u will not loose ur root access..
2)All rom developers have listed the samsung apps deleted by them, and they usually give it as an addon pack if some people want.
See it what apps they have removed , if the app u want is deleted good for u or u have to deleted it manually as u have done in the past..
Alternatively u can delete it from the rom before flashing too... if u are experienced.
3)This is a kernel related issue try changing/flashing a new kernel the problem should get solved..
i want to flash the litening rom, what is the newest version available?
my kernel is KF4 but most of the roms i found are for other kernel versions, how do i solve this?
The latest version of litening ROM is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
but can i suggest Cognition as i have used both and i do prefer cognition:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124396
Your kernel doesnt matter - each ROM usually includes their own kernel and when you flash the new rom the kernel from that ROM will also be applied to your phone at the same time
Is cyanogenmod for gs2 released?
And whar is the difference btwn different ketnrls? say ke7 is better or kf4 is better?

[Q] Problem Regarding Doom's Kernel!

Hello all,
Okk,actually story starts from the day custom kernels are released. Here we go:
I was on wb v4 when actually doom released his custom kernels,he had two versions X/S AND FS Series.First i tried x/s series kernel and was stuck on XPERIA logo. Then,i tried FS Series it worked but cant overclock.. then i came to know that coz of some files in the ROM,u cant install x/s series untill u delete those files.
Then,WB released v5,again first i tried custom version but then also i was stuck on xperia logo. Then,i tried stock version it worked but u cant overclock.I decided to retain on stock version for some time.
Then WB released v6,now i tried gaming ROM first but guess what? I was again stuck on xperia logo.I flashed Doom's fs kernel then the ROM worked but u cant overclock.
WHENEVER I FLASHED ANY CUSTOM KERNEL OR CUSTOM ROM WITH THE CUSTOM KERNEL I WAS STUCK ON XPERIA LOGO....
I am not able to boot wb's gaming rom, always stuck on xperia logo.
Need help...
P.S. BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED.
EDIT 1:
Noticed one thing when i flashed doom's kernel v4b, it doesn't vibrate when u power it ON.
But with FS kernel it does...argh!! what the hell!!

The fact that you can install ROMs means that you have xrecovery installed and rooted 2.3.3. So my only advice would be to make sure your on the right baseband .71 and the original stock kernel. Then install wolf gaming rom. If you still can't boot up...then start from a completely clean 2.3.3 GB STOCK ROM and try over again. OR your phone is serious and cannot handle any OC or UC or UV or OV and that is possible since other users have similar issues.
nice username. By the way ZEUS raped his sister.

P.S i tried repairing it with SEUS it does repaired, i rooted it, then intalled xrecovery, then cleanly installed WB's Gaming ROM and again stuck on Xperia logo...
anyone who can help me here..??
bump!
How does it behave after flashing SE kernel (repair with SEUS or FT)? Did you boot and test before rooting again?

[Q] [X10] xRecovery on ICS/JB roms?

So, I'm a pretty average custom rom user of an x10a.
I've flashed and tweaked out with several gingerbread roms, without any issues.
Recently I found about the newer 4.1.2 roms for the x10 from late December. And I was wondering, 'cause I want to update to one of those, I understand that they're flashed in the same way 2.3 roms are. But, my xRecovery is the 3.0 gingerbread ready version. So I don't know if it will work at all after I've installed one of the Jelly Bean roms.
So I'm kindly asking anybody who knows on the forum if it will still work after I flash to 4.1.2. 'Cause I'm not certain which rom of the two I found is better for me. And I want to test them both out, but of that of course I'd need xRecovery working.
In short I'm just asking for a y/n answer on will xRecovery for the Xperia x10 work after I've installed a 4.1 custom rom, or will I have to go back to stock 2.3.3 and re-root and unlock my bootloader again?
Big thanks to anybody who replies This is the first post I made here, and probably the only one I'll never need.

copy your choice of rom, ics/jb into your sd card. install the appropriate kernel via flashtool. all ics/jb kernels includes CWM so you should have no problem installing these roms granted that you have unlocked bootloader.

Well, yeah, I know that, thanks ^^" but, I guess my post was too long for the question to be understandable. I was actually asking if xRecovery will still work fine After I've installed an ICS/JB rom. Surprised somebody replied so quickly o.o thanks.

Oh, oh, sorry! WOW, I need to focus when reading! I'm really sorry! Thanks for the help good to know. :good:
It can be done, but it depends on which kernel you flash.
Some kernels only contain CWM, while others contain xRecovery and CWM.
But you can always flash a kernel that has xRecovery (Like Doomkernel of ferkernel 3.6), and thus you have xRecovery.

Thank you, glad to see that the community here is always willing to help!
Tried both of the roms today, and it worked like a charm! Neat that I didn't know each kernel came with custom recovery images.
Thank you for the help Cheers mate!

Hi
Can flash ICS/JB rom using xrecovery in Doomkernel? Thanks
I'm not sure mate, I don't think Doomlord's kernel is compatible with anything but 2.3, but don't take my word on it.

What you must understand is that a Rom comes with some installation scripts. CWM and xRecovery will able or not to understand those scripts.
In order to be able to flash a ICS or JB rom from xRecovery it means that the rom has to been prepared to be flashed thanks to xRecovery.
The Recovery "manager" are provided with the kernels, so there shouldn't be anything to ask about xRecovery or CWM regarding Roms,
just flash the kernel that works with your rom and you'll get the correct recovery to install the ROM from.
The only exception is that on some phone, the CM10 kernel doesn't want to go into recovery before flashing CM10 Rom (happened to me when coming from stock gb), so you have to flash CM9 kernel, install CM10 rom and reflash CM10 kernel.
The question of xRecovery and CWM is more when you try to flash some libraries after the installation of the Rom.
So regarding this question, there's no ICS or JB roms (that I know of) that have a xRecovery scripts.
