Isn't the libusb package on Ubuntu under libusb-dev?
Code:
apt-cache search libusb
should tell you for certain the package name though.

[Q] Samsung USB Driver "The mobile phone is in use" error

I am trying to install the Samsung USB driver from Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit but it insists the mobile phone is in use. It says "The mobile phone is in use. To install normally, you need to remove the device and restart the computer. Please run the SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones installer again after restarting." I have tried restarting but it still shows that stupid error message. Using Windows XP. How do I install the drivers?

Is the phone stuck in Device manager? Remove it and try again, do not plug the phone in while installing the drivers.

What does it appear as in the device manager that needs removing? I tried removing a couple of things that appeared when I plugged it in but still shows that error.
Uninstall everything Samsung from the PC.
Reboot the phone and the PC.
Follow the guide in the link above, then when finished plug the phone in.

How do I do that? I have made sure nothing Samsung is in the device manager and restarted again but still can't install the driver.

You are going to need help with the PC, it is not a phone problem. Take it to a PC shop near you.
It's the stupid mistake I made by plugging the phone in before installing the drivers. It looks like the only way now is by doing a clean Windows installation unless someone can help me properly remove the failed drivers.

You just need someone who can do remove the device for you. Don't you have computer shops where you live? No need to wipe the whole machine over a single device.
I think it's a waste of money taking it to a computer shop. It will cost at least £20
SOLVED
After several hours I finally have solved this problem.
go to the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Samsung\Device Error Recovery
open the file: default-0.log
scroll to the end of this file, you will find something like:
"2014/02/01 22:00:26 0625 [setup(dll) ][RemoveAllDriverDeviceKey:656 ] Delete Driver & Device Keys Failed1(-536870396)... USB\Vid_04e8&Pid_6860&Rev_0400"
Now, open regedit and find all keys with "Vid_04e8&Pid_6860" in their names. Delete them all.
If you have a problem with deleting, change the permisions for the key (right-click on key and add yourself to the user group).
And now you can install new USB driver.
Regards

Thank you very much. I had the same error and your method worked for me
----
Here are my observations:
In my log, the error had been exactly the same.
I searched my registry for the key Vid_04e8&Pid_6860.
I found it in the following locations:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\VID_04E8&PID_6860
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\USB\VID_04E8&PID_6860
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_04E8&PID_6860
I think it is only necessary to modify CurrentControlSet, the other keys are just backups.
I had to right-click VID_04E8&PID_6860, change the permission settings to full access and then I deleted the whole key named VID_04E8&PID_6860.
Finally the driver installer worked.

Worked perfectly for me too, with one exception - at first I was not able to delete some of the keys. I had to right click on them, click permissions, and then give Everyone full access so I could delete them.
Hello, i have the same problem on windows 7, and cant connect my galaxy s4
- The mobile phone is in use. To install normally, you need to remove the device and restart the computer. Please run the SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones installer again after restarting.

NOw i get a can't find Javaw file error
got novaterm to run, but now i get an unhandled exception error when i press any key in novaterm after connecting.
any help?
you need to install java
run novacom first. i think it might install it for you. its been a while so i dont really remember. if you are not sure if you have installed it previously, then try running a test to see if you have it http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

GOt java installed. I just keep getting the unhandled exception error when i type in novaterm. I am able to run the command but i have to keep clicking ignore on the error message
That's really annoying isn't it! You should use the novaterm inside /program files/palm Inc/terminal/novaterm. It will give you less trouble... moreover if you copy and paste into it with right clicking, you don't need to type anything!

Hi everyone. I've just started editing some Rom's with kitchen and i'm newbie about that.
I modded everything i want in kitchen and i was about to create .zip file to flash it to my phone. But i got an error.
it was about "Zip Align" and i read the Q&A part on xda - kitchen topic. There is a answer like that;
QUESTION: I am using Ubuntu Linux on a 64-bit Windows PC, and whenever I run 'zipalign' I get an error about "No such file or directory".
ANSWER: You need to install the Ubuntu package "ia32-libs".
I tried to install ia32-libs package but i get some errors. I searched on internet and i saw that it's a bugor sth like that. And i dont know what to do.
I tried typing "sudo apt-get install ia32-libs" or "sudo apt-get install ia32-libs-multiarch" to terminal buti couldnt get package called ia32.
Btw, i'm using ubuntu installed with latest wubi (i think 12.10).

Do you have a custom recovery installed to sideload a stock/custom ROM flash able zip? You won't be able to use stock recovery for flashing. Usually ADB isn't accessable unless set in the default.prop file
@XX_MRBEAN_XX
What ADB subcommand returns that error?
Typically "Permission Denied" is returned when a subcommand gets invoked that only works on a R/W-mounted device or requires ROOT.

That's NOT an ADB subcommand, but an option offered by your tablet's Recovery Menu.
Take note that ADB consists of three components
A client, which runs on your desktop computer
A server, which runs as a background process on your desktop machine. It manages communication between the client and the daemon running on the Android-powered device
A daemon, which runs as a background process on the Android device. FYI: That automatically gets started when device boots up if enabled in Android's system settings - keyword: system file named build.prop, there settings ro.secure=0 & ro.debuggable=1.
My advice: Download from Lenovo's website the USB-driver that matches your tablet and install it: never use any other USB-driver !

Yes, but stock recovery may fail unless it accepts test-key signed zips. If not then you'll need a custom recovery that allows to do so or to disable a signature check
That or if your bootloader is unlocked you can modify the recovery file to replace /res/keys with a test-key one and use stock recovery to flash test-signed files

Using ADB sideload, you can easily sideload any signed and/or unsigned ROM and any signed and/or unsigned MOD zip files: no need for any external SD-card. IMHO that's the most convenient method.
Code:
adb devices
adb sideload <PATH-TO-ZIP-FILE>
