[Q] Bootup without back cover - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I lost my Streak's back cover a couple of days back and am waiting for a replacement to be shipped.
I am using the new GingerStreak 2.3 R2 ROM which I guess disables the back cover sensor. However, the phone does turn off occasionally and turning it back on is a nightmare.
Since I do not have the tools (or the courage) to open the phone and disable the sensor I had to come up with an alternate solution. Currently I stick a safety pin into the upper end of tiny slit on the right side of the Streak's back. This is the one near the 'C' of the CE<serial num> sticker.
Was wondering if anyone came up with something better than this, if so please do share.

[Q] VZW TP touch screen not working

so, i just got this phone about a week ago, and its already seen several near death experiences with all the flashing ive been doing. but this one takes the cake. all i did was put the phone in my back pocket, with the screen facing in, sat down for half a second, and when i took it out, the screen had been pressed so hard that the top layer of the resistive screen was stuck to the bottm, and not registering anything. i knew the first step to fixing it was getting it unstuck. but it still wounldnt work. did a hard reset. and now im stuck at my initial tap screen to set up phone screen, and i cant do anything. this is clearly a hardware problem. can anyone help me out?
lemme be the first to say it man, ouch lol
sorry about your screen, i fear the only way to fix would be to find another screen assembly, if you search the threads for the cdma raphael(herman) i beleive there is a detailed teardown of the phone that may or may not help you resolve your problem. here is a quick link to something along the lines of what your looking for but not really too detailed : http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/HTC-Touch-Pro/787/1
ive done that, but usually break the screen completely. i have an extra us cellular tp that has a bad keyboard and front panel buttons but screen and touch works. i just use it as a extra battery charger. has some scratches, but works. ill send it to you if you send me your old one. the screen has a double-stick tape that holds it to the frame around the edges. let me know if your able to tear it down and think you can put it back together again. its a pretty straight forward process though.
Apply packing tape to the screen and pull as hard as you can.

[Q] Touch Screen issues

I dropped my phone last August and cracked the screen. After several hours to find out the Verizon sales person didn't add the insurance to my phone.
This put me to searching the pages of Ebay to find a true Verizon digitizer replacement from China. 6 weeks later I replaced the screen with the tools provided(minus the fact I didn't realize the seal to the chassis had to be heated to release the old screen) this causes dust to get behind the screen (boo).
So after a few months the cursor when using the keyboard would just move on its own. Each month it gets worse and worse to the point you can't even use it and have to re-flash the ROM again.
The home screens when long pressing to delete something will skip and miss the trash can and you have to try several times to delete something. The soft keys will get messed up and the menu will act like the back button.
Has anyone had issues like this or maybe know of a calibration tool.

[Q] Blank screen on dell streak after replacing screen

My streak was cracked when I accidentally sat on it. So I ordered one from ebay and replaced a new screen on it. After replacing the new screen, my streak only showed blank screen when I turned it on. I don't know if during the process of disassebling I did something wrong or not. But I did actually redo all the steps but the problem still occured. If anyone can give me any direction to see what wrong with my phone. I am really appreciate that.
Bengo..... My 2-cents is: Assuming you got all cables & connectors re-assembled correctly, you either have a defective replacement screen/digitizer or when you accidently sat on it you may have broken more than just the screen (cracked main board or similar). I would start with trying another replacement screen...

Did you switch it on with the broken screen? Did the display work partly?
If it did, atleast we know that the assembly may have caused the problem.
You might want to check the connectors again. See if they are secure and if the little brown clips have actually secured the tan coloured wires. Make sure they are down and fastened. The wire with the serial number and the bar code on it is the one responsible for the display. so make sure thats secure.
Also, if you dont already, try to test if it works before you put the screws back on. Just put the plastic parts back together and test. If it doesnt check connectors again.
In any case, if you decide to re-order a new screen, the connectors would come with it (except the small one for audio). SO you can take time fiddling with the other three connectors.
Best of luck!!
Did you solve this? I had the exact same problem after dropping mine, changed display and then always blank screen. If you have any info I'd appreciate it!!

[Q] Screen just replaced, now Bluetooth/Wifi will not turn on

A week ago, I dropped my Note 2 on the sidewalk and smashed the screen (the phone itself functioned, but the screen was blank)
I took it to a local, reputable repair shop for fixing, and received the phone today, with a working screen.
I realized upon arriving home that both the Wifi and Bluetooth functions will not turn on.
They both do the following:
They will be grayed out, then allow you to turn on after about six seconds
When I press to turn on, it sits in the "on" position for five seconds, then slides back to the "off" position
After perusing the forums, I have done the following to try and determine the problem.
1) Took the battery out to restart the phone
2) Factory reset and flashed back to stock (had been on Jelly Beans)
3) I opened up the casing to see if any hardware had been dislodged that I could see (not an expert eye, mind you...I consider myself more of a tinkerer (I have been kicking myself for shelling out the dough for the repairs when the screen replacement looks so fun...)
Attached is a pic of what I think I should be looking at, after watching a few disassembly videos: (red rectangles).
--Note that the other side of the casing (which has what looks like tape over what is the wifi antenna(?) is not damaged as far as I can tell.
Possible explanations? Was the antenna damaged when the phone fell (face down)? Was damage done during screen replacement?
Thanks for reading! And apologies that my first post, after lurking for a while now, is a "take" post rather than a "give" one!
update? did you fix it?
I have the same problem (not working Wi-Fi - Bluetooth)

Broken screen replaced, touch screen all messed up

Long story short, cracked the hell outta my screen, ordered a stock replacement off amazon for like $20. I followed the instructions, got the screen on, looks great, everything seemed to go fine. Booted up, couldn't pull the lock ring. The captive buttons also do not work. Only like the top 50% of the screen works and its real twitchy if anything. I have taken this apart about 10 times already, re did the connections, even threw my broken screen back on. Moving it around barely touching the digitizer I was able to get the whole screen to work perfectly fine. As soon as I moved it and or seated it properly into the bezel, back to barely working at all. At this point I cant do much of anything with the phone. I am S-ON, rooted, rom'd, TWRP. Anyone have any ideas? I knew I should have just left it broken...:crying: Anyways, this voided my warrenty by removing the sticker on the screw, Anything I can do? And or can I get back to stock, unrooted without the screen working to touch? Pretty mad! My upgrade is not until March and I love my rezound...dummy!
Hi, I just did this on my wife's rezound today, took half a day for me, I scratched the LCD at top, has a half inch line,:crying: the buttons at the bottom barely lights up, other than that everything works..all I can suggest to you is make sure the two flimsy little cables are put back PERFECT..I watched 3 how-to's on youtube also. Good luck
Just did mine today too. Luckily is went smoothly but it took me almost an hour with cleaning up the old glue/tape and putting more down. I think it may be a bad pinch in the ribbon cable though. Might need another hopefully not.
