Hi all,
Thanks to everyone for the helpful posts. I was able to successfully run the Revolutionary tool and flash a couple ROMs, but I realized I missed some old data from my stock ROM (primarily some locked text messages). Is there a way to either 1) run a rooted ROM (i.e. Cyanogenmod) and load my backed up texts or 2) run the stock ROM as is, but with root capabilities (such as removing the Sprint bloatware)?
I am able to restore my nandroid backup with the stock ROM, and all my data is there, but I don't have the ability to remove the bloatware.
Thanks for your help!
After restoring your backup of the stock rom, download and flash Superuser from recovery. I'm not sure if different versions are for different devices. If you're unsure, the Revolutionary site has a link to the correct one. You can find all versions here: http://goo-inside.me/superuser
Once you've flashed Superuser, you can either backup your apps and data to restore on another rom with Titanium Backup (use SMS Backup and Restore for texts) or modify the stock rom to your liking.
Revolutionary gives you s-off, which allows you to flash unofficial zips (such as a custom rom with root) but does not give your stock rom root - flashing Superuser does that. This is why you don't have root access on your backup.

Thank you plainjane, this worked great for me! Thanks again!

I have an unlocked and rooted Samsung Galaxy S2. I installed MIUI and am now experimenting with different kernels.
Is there a way to backup and restore the kernel only, rather than doing a full nandroid backup and restore? I searched all over the web and all I could find was this advice to:
"just grab the boot.img and contents of /system/lib/modules from your rom zip and make your own update.zip."
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1059412.html
But I found no comment confirming it actually does work. There is a kernel flasher app that's supposed to backup and restore kernels, but it only works on the Galaxy S (not the S2).
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Hy guys,
I was looking for a good tutorial on the forum about how to keep config & apps between various ROMs, and if it was necessary to do it if you wanted to update the same ROM.
I did not find anything that specify this exactly.
I know that there are some tool to backup apk and then you can restore them, but its only the App
AppManager
Titanium backup
Then you have some apps to backup your ROM, but you can not restore parameters into another ROM (Cyanogen params, Accounts, etc...).
ROMManager
ClockWorkMod 3.2
Then I was wondering if you can flash different kernel without changing (wiping) anything in your system?
And if you need to wipe your data if you change between GingerDXv19 -> GingerDXv21?
And if you need to do it if you change between GingerDXv19->MiniCM7-2.2?
PS: I have already rooted the phone and installed ClockWorkMod 3.2
well, switching is not really possible, you must flash your kernel, because afaik gingerdx & minicm have different kernels.
if you want to switch roms, make a backup of each rom with clockworkmod(the apps are included in the backup). flash the kernel with the tool, and voila
Dear community,
actually I am not quite sure if i should change from stock ROM Android 4.0.4 to a custom ROM like KA10.2 Xperia [4.0.4]SSpeed or [4.0.4]MooDeD ICS 90.6. I recently updated from stock 2.3.7 to stock 4.0.4 and luckily all my apps, userdata, configuration etc. were restored perfectly (nice). I know this wont work for a custom ROM (because unlocking bootloader needs to wipe data).
Without root I am not able to use Titanium Backup and I am not sure if MyBackup is able to backup the data for all Apps? At the moment I have 152 Apps installed and for me its very important to save the gameprogress from Dead Space, Modern Combat 3, GTA III Uncut and so on.
What can I do to backup everything like in Titanium backup? I also want to backup all data from "face unlock" because I optimized it so much (with beard, without beard, with cap and without, differnt hairstyles etc.), how can I do that ?
I think your only option is adb backup then. But it's not too stable...
I just did this the other day.
I used the stock Backup & restore app. It creates .smec-fullbackup in your sdcard and can save all your apks, texts, contacts, browser, etc. The only issue I had going to KA10.2 was that it did not have the Backup & restore app. I was able to pull it from my nandroid of stock ICS. I believe it was called Backup-wizard.apk.
edit: I am unsure about the face unlock stuff. I was able to backup some apks and restore them with my save data.

OK at the moment I am sure the ROM I will chose is [4.0.4]MooDeD ICS 90.6. I created a backup with the integrated backup tool. Does anyone know if stock backup app is integrated in this ROM? Otherwise, krazyazy can you upload this .apk anyway ?^^
You can stay with stock ROM and root if you want. Flash ICS Advanced Kernel using fastboot, turn on, wait, turn off, Flash original ROM Kernel with fastboot (if you extract the kernel) or with flashtool and voilá! Root on stock!
I use stock ROM and Advanced ICS Kernel Its nice!

I think the actual issue is with unlocking the device, because the op states that they don't have root and mentions that unlocking will wipe data.
I have a Verizon LG G3. I took the OTA update to 5.0.1 (VS98523C), rooted my phone and installed Titanium Backup, made a backup, and then proceeded to delete system apps. I'm getting error messages about weather apps so I want to restore them but can't because apparently TB needs to download them from the store. I installed TWRP so I could restore from Nandroid backups.
Is there a place I can download TWRP backups? I've seen threads on how to restore to stock but I don't want to lose root, I just want to restore the device to stock-but-just-rooted. It was such a huge pain in the neck for me to root that I don't want to lose root and re-root if I don't have to. It seems like someone would have uploaded backups but I've been searching for a while and all the search results just seem to point to how I can install TWRP.
LG g3 one click root is fast and simple if you need root. If you uninstall system apps make sure to reboot after or you'll get errors with the app trying to load. I don't think you can just grab someone else's backup. It would probably work but I doubt anyone wants to share all of their data with everyone.

You needed to have made the backups.
You can install one of the clean ROMs that is basically the OTA, like Jasmine.
Nandroid backups come from you making a backup of your system.
Thanks, I just installed Jasmine and (so far) it's working great. It fixed my problems AND now I can use all my apps in dual window mode!!! This is better than stock!
P.S. I did a nandroid backup right after installing Jasmine
Hi. I'm having issues with the battery life on my OPX and I would like to try some stuff. However, my OPX is my daily driver and i'd like to have real backups that can help me get back to business quickly if I make a mistake.
One such this is to try to turn off Google Services/Backup. However, how do I back up my app settings, then? How do people who go around testing ROMs and Kernels do it? Do they just blow away everything every time?
I'd also like to try other kernels, maybe even using a kernel manager, but I need root for that. After rooting, how can I update to the next OOS 3.x release? I'm on OOS 3.x, and for now I only want to be on OOS 3.x (no custom ROMs if I can avoid them), updating only when OnePlus releases a security update.
For backing up my phone apps instead of Google Services/Backup, I tried:
* MyBackup - will backup all APKs, but app-data will only be backed-up in rooted phones; it will also backup most of the things I also want and for what I'm already using it (SMS, MMS, Calendar events, Contacts, Home screen settings, etc.)
* Helium - will backup APKs and app-data, but only for half my apps; AFAIK, it won't back up the rest of the phone state, I'll have to keep using MyBackup for that.
Questions:
1) If I install TWRP and root with SuperSU, can I unroot? Can I then dirty-flash (for example) OOS 3.1.5 over 3.1.4 and re-root?
1.1) If I can't dirty-flash, how do I safely install an OOS upgrade on a phone with TWRP and root?
2) Will MyBackup backup and restore everything properly if I root?
3) Will Helium back up all apps if I root?
4) Would it be better to keep the stock recovery (booting temporarily TWRP from fastboot/adb just to install SuperSU) and then work with FlashFire? Does anyone use Flashfire with OPX?
This is a duplicate of a thread I created on the OP forums but it seems the official forums are as dead as OPs support for the OPX...
Thank you.

Your best choice is magisk manager, install magisk and root with systemless root, follow their official thread for procedures, if u done everything properly, u ll hv root access and u ll not face any problem while getting sys updates.
Helium backup? I prefer titanium backup(requires root) it ll work properly
Another simple method,Take a full backup in twrp before playing with ur mobile, root it using twrp, install xposed watever, and when if opx get nxt update,u can install it manually from twrp..jst as simple and restore previously backedup data..

OK, installed Magisk, rooted and tried again.
MyBackup failed twice to finish a backup, once it just reset while in the background, the other failed almost on the last app with "Not enough space" (SD Card still has 50GB+ available...)
Titanium Backup is refusing to backup to the SD card. When I try to select the SD card as a backup storage it won't allow me to create a new folder or select an existing folder. A rooted app refusing to write to the SD Card? Are you sh*tting me?
Now I have installed systemless Xposed for Magisk and ”Marshmallow SD fix" module. Apps still can't write to the SD card
