Has anyone successfully installed a ubuntu image with vnc on cyanogen? I've tried a bunch of guides and images without success. Could someone point me to a link?
Closest I got was from here:
www.nerd65536.com/2011/07/installing-ubuntu-in-android-version-2.html?m=1
I got the chroot access but everytime I tried to do something it said segmentation fault.
Thanks!

Yes, I have Ubuntu 10.10 on mine. Needless to say I don't use it much because I was so used to webtop but if I really want I can. look up the 10.10 Ubuntu guide on the galaxy s2 works like a charm on cm7.

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows how I could get this on my phone. I have a vibrant and my cousin has a captivate and we are both on T-Mobile but I want something like a apk or a flashable cwm zip that would be compatible on both the captivate and the vibrant. Please someone help me, thanks in advance

Some roms come with wifi calling. Just gotta look in the listed features in the op... froyo ones are more likely to be better and less half-assed. Idk anything about captivate... tell him to get a vibrant

Ya but isn't there a way to just download an apk or flash a zip file to make it work but I want it to work on any phone.

Not at my pc, but you can do this. Install Bloater (made by a dev here on xda) and use that to install wiring calling. Neat and overall useful app. Here is the link: http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?t=591&

Actually, head to the Dev section and look for EDT Project V ROM thread. In the OP there is the wifi calling .zip file attached which you can flash through recovery. Just did it myself and worked like a charm.

Does the zip file work on the captivate too?

Absolutely no clue. Ask around on their forums.

It should work just fine. Check out the 1.3.1 thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925548
He has it listed under "Addons" which you flash yourself, so I think that tells you it works/is compatible w/ his rom. If you want to stick w/ their stuff, head here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/bionix-v/files/
Download the samsung-apps.zip, open it, drill into system -> app, and extract the wifi-calling .apk file and install like any other app.
I flashed the wifi calling zip from the project v rom thread and the wifi calling doesn't seem to work. All it says is that it is enabling but it never does. I am on simply galaxy v2.7.2 rom

Do you think it has something to do with the model number being it says GT-I9000. When I really have a vibrant
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
did you try the .apk route?
I downloaded bloater and there doesn't seem to be any wifi calling app in there
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
i dont think it would work for the captivate since t-mobile is stingy about this stuff
here are two apk's you can try. i dont know if either will work on the captivate.
both from same xda thread. one is on page 1 and the other is on page 12
Page 1
Page 12 <<<the one on page 12 is the one i used on my vibrant and it works just fine
(its in post #118)
Both of them did not work on my vibrant, all it does is say that it is enabling but it never really enables it. Do you think it is the model number.

Ask in the thread that pertains to your rom, the dev may know. At this point I think we've helped as much as we can in this thread.

For linux and mac you have to use Heimdall but to my knowledge it is not compatible with the Note I717.
Anyone else? Thanks....

Anyone running Linux? Maybe use Odin running in the Wine environment?

Just boot up you're windows partition

Don't have one but may just go ahead and install XP.
Thing is, that's also proving difficult as I don't have an optical drive and I'm having bootmgr issues with the USB bootable I made.

the heimdall version 1.3.1 works with the note.

I thought I read on another post it works with Macs but unfortunately not with Linux/Ubuntu. I use Ubuntu also, so it would be great if it did work.
Don't boot XP man. Your just going to run into compatibility issues.

Heimdall 1.3.2 broke compatibility for several devices. In most case it is recommended that you use version 1.3.1 instead.Version 1.3.1 works for me ( Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise )
Thanks all... will have to do me some learnin' heimdall

I think a good place to start is reading Cyanogen's thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667298
Then head over to chef central and read the beginners guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=613
Then look at the android hacking and development forum.

Cool thanks guys, I will pm later, working getting windows running under virtualbox.
Also, this has been bothering me for some time now, to root a phone why not just push the Su binary with adb to the bin folder, I mean to say wouldn't that work the same?

7zip and Photoshop is all you need.

I've been wondering the same thing as in the old days when I had my Eris that is how I first rooted it.
That would be theme tools, I want to do a ground up Rom with extras and theme it.
I am wondering if I import cm9 launcher to say viperrez if it would break everything else.

I had a exp. build on my LG 2x, in cause of that I think it's possible.
You need just time and a build machine
It's pretty same as compiling AOSP or CM so only wasting some time is needed to fix problems during compile.
I'm recently wondering on AC100 distro - as far as I comprehend those are basically the same, except for tablet/netbook part??
I have no knowledges to compile and install it, for I was wondering if any of the community got, and then show us how to do it.
