I've used go dialer, but it doesn't have the specific functionality i'm looking for.
Specifically that of the stock dialer that let's you swipe one way to call a person and another way to text them.

[Q] Looking for a messaging app that can...

Only reason I stick with all Touchwiz roms is because I love the textmessage app,
I love being able to slide left or right to call or text someone.
Anyone know of an app that has this feature? I would like to try some gingerbread(CM7!!) but I know I'm going to miss this to much to stick with it.

[REQUEST] Customize HTC's stock SMS

Is there a current custom HTC stock SMS app? I actually dont mind the stock sms but I would really like to know a way to change the color scheme of the messaging bubbles, fonts, and/or backgrounds.
I've been running some of the 3rd party SMS apps (Go SMS Pro, Handcent, and etc.) I was even able to fix the profile picture sync issue with them, but they seem to run a little glitchy sometimes. Where as the stock sms performs great other then it being so plain.
Thanks in advance.
I agree that the 3rd party SMS apps aren't running smoothly at this time. I'm running the stock SMS but have SMS Popup installed which doesn't run smoothly either. I'm looking for alternatives to use, cause I like the Individual Notification option in the 3rd party apps. I've used Handcent and GOSMS, both ran decent but they both had there issues with working inconsistently.
If you go into settings>personalize>skin, you can change the skin, some of the skins have a blue sms theme some have a green sms. I know its not really what you are looking for but it is better than nothing.
I want it inverted black

I know a dev working on that very thing, he's told me its a real pain compared to the sense 2.1 mms, and that took him quite a while.

Until such time we can compile the apk's successfully it will be tough to make it to your liking. I do themes, and we can't yet get ICS apk's to compile after they've been edited. I'm sure there are devs working on this issue, but as of now there unthemeable.
A black background would be nice.

I am now currently using GoSms again, but I had to disable the notification / Quick response box. Now it runs smooth. So I'm guessing it's a Sense 4.0 issue. Apparently Sense, doesn't like notification boxes.

Stock dialer

I swear I have asked this before, but is there a way to use the stock Google dialer on CM? I don't really like the CM one. I am using exdialer right now, but I don't really like it, either.
I'm fairly certain that the "CM" dialer is the stock AOSP dialer. Are you thinking of the stock Samsung dialer (the hideous mess that it is)?

Yep, I think you're right actually. There are some features of the TW contacts app that I like, such as slide left/right to call/text, and T9. I mistook that for the Google dialer.

[Q] AOSP and changing default dialer

Love using AOSP based roms such as AOSP+ and CM, is there anyway to change the default dialer to a third part app such as exDialer? I prefer the extra features of a different dialer app.
Unfortunately incoming calls are still routed through the system dialer, and if I disable the system dialer app then it simply shows I have a call but no dialer is active but have no way of taking the call.
I thought perhaps disabling the system dialer would cause make the rom ask which app I wish to use as the default dialer etc, but that didn't work.

Possible to replace Touchwiz dialer?

I am on Touchwiz 4.4 rom and I can't stop the stock TW dialer form handling the calls.
Each dialer I install (for example: exDialer) works for typing in the number, but as soon as I click "Call", the stock dialer takes over the screen. It is the same with incoming calls - stock dialer answers them and there's no way to change it.
On top of that, because exDialer is not the default dialer, it can't clear missed calls, even though the plugin for it is installed.
I had no issues like that on ASOP roms. Is this normal with TouchWiz roms? Is there any way around it?

No there is any around it. There are 2 different apps at work here. The dialer which you use to dial the call and the phone app which is the in call screen. Not all phone files are open sourced so all you can get is a replaced dialer app.
