Does anyone knwo of a stock like dialer application that I can use on CM7.1 will allow me to "swipe" left/right to call/sms someone?
I like go dialer
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
I've used go dialer, but it doesn't have the specific functionality i'm looking for.
Specifically that of the stock dialer that let's you swipe one way to call a person and another way to text them.
I bought SGSIII earlier today, and I already miss features of HTC Sense. Touchwiz dialer sucks. Is there anything I can download from Play with Snese look and feel?
Also Touchwiz doesn't have a space saving 4x1 clock/weather widget. I install one from Beatiful Widgets, but it is not as good as the HTC one.
I want to ask the other HTC refugees, what are your coping strategies?
I'm coming from the OG Evo, but I never liked Sense much to begin with. I used MIUI on my Evo and plan to do the same once a MIUI build is released for this phone. Right now, I'm not having too many problems coping, but I don't plan on keeping TW any longer than necessary. My biggest issue right now for every day use is the lack of a convenient brightness slider, but that should be fixed whenever the next OTA happens.

For a 4x1 widget, try HD Widgets.

I never liked HTC Sense, I can never get used to it. I used either MIUI or CM rom. Also came from og htc evo as well. Touchwiz is a much better experience than HTC Sense imo... but I rather use AOSP.
HTC dialer was so good I didn't even program speed dials. Just typing 2-3 numbers or letters of a name would instantly bring the right contact. And they had Facebook picture integration (at least in GB ROMs). I also miss the short haptic buzz when a call was connected.

I use go launcher ex with all the go widgets all with sense theme. As far as dialer I use go contacts with dark theme. Not exactly sense look but I find it more useful as you can swipe to go from dialer to contacts and to favorites.

I have been using go launcher as well for one sole reason; the contacts widget. I like having a widget for direct calls. I hate how when you go to contacts or logs, to press on a name and it takes you to another menu which you have to choose either call or text. Sure you can slide to direct call but I just want to press and it calls immediately. Something so simple that I wish was an option in settings.
Guys, thanks for advise, Go launcher is way better than the stock one.

I too was was a Die-hard HTC Sense fan. However, TW 5 have improved so much I do not miss my HTC Amaze 4G. Whenever a contact is on your screen like SMS, Call log, etc, just put the phone to your ear and it will automatically dial the number for that contact.

Anything new takes a little time to get used to. I think, if.you stick with it, you'll find TW to give you a more simplified, "closer to stock ICS" experience. Sure, its not stock ICS and Samsung likes to add a lot of color, but IMHO Sense uses too many useless transitions and extra tabs and extra steps...run on sentence but you get the point. There are plenty of widget alternatives, I personally like Fancy Widgets. For alternative launchers, Nova is nice.

I found a Sense 4 clock widget lookalike, no flip animation though.

Have you tried go contacts? That comes with a dialer that works just like the sense one. Btw, touxhwiz dialer should show your fb contact pics. Not sure why yours isn't. You need to sync with the app, not the built in fb sync.

I'm sure someone has already tried it, but what about titanium backups of HTC Sense apps, would those install on this phone? Dialer, etc.
I too miss Sense... I miss it already even though i forced my self to a vanila rom on my desire for a month before i got my gs3
Got 3 years to get over it! LOL
I am also a convert to TW. I initially missed the Sense but after I learned the shortcuts built into TW dialer, I prefer it. Make sure you read the tips that pop up and not just close them without reading. The swipe to call or text is a pretty cool feature I think.

Sense gives me headache. Too old its colors are stressful. Touchwiz has vivid colors and not jist black and white
Hahah I thought I was the only one who preferred Sense.
I use GoLauncher for all my Launching needs on both this S3 and my original Evo.
But Sense's Contact app just blows this and every 3rd party away. I loved the auto-merge features, the integrated facebook/twitter/picassa/messaging by contact.. and it just looked nice.
The closest I've found for the contacts is an app called "ConTapps" which does the same integration with Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn, etc.. (In fact I think it does a better job than sense)... however it does not have a nice way to navigate via groups, all your contacts are one big list, and duplicates must be manually 'merged' (Dups due to facebook,twitter,etc.. my google contacts are VERY clean online in the cloud).
As for a Dialer... Right now I'm using "aTakePhone". I've used it since my old Palm Centro, then my Evo, and now my S3.. It doesn't appear that there's been much updates to handle the S3's screen resolution (small gaps on the edges of the dialer) but feature wise it has everything you'd want in a dialer, including a nice scrolling 'quick bar' on the dialpad menu. You can even customize the searching parameters so it won't search till you've placed X # of letters, searching within company names, etc...

I really miss the HTC contacts app... *cry*.
Hello, I searched but didn't find an answer to this one. So here goes.
I'm not a fan of the TouchWiz dialer app in the standard ICS ROM. I've tried out some dialers from the Play Store and find that I can use them... but once a number is dialed the ancient 2.x-looking dialer reappears for the duration. Any solution?

Is your phone rooted? If it is you could probably flash a .zip for a different dialer.
Hope this helps
Thanks!

Thanks for the response, I haven't rooted yet; I'm not a total newbie when it comes to rooting as I've done it for some previous phones. I haven't taken the leap because I'm wary of losing the ability to upgrade when the official JB ROM arrives (fingers crossed).
That being said.... Perhaps I'll go for it and permanently lose the 2009-looking dialer once and for all!
Thanks again!
Hey
I would re-commend using, dialer one. It's a great surprisingly for a third party app
the dialer and the phone are two seperate things. no matter what dialer you use after dialing it is always going to go back to stock phone. third party apps take the place of contacts.apk but calls are handled by phone.apk. you will have to flash a rom with a themed phone.apk or aosp based to get the change you want.
Good to know. I'm really puzzled by how dated parts of the UI are. When my Note arrived back in August I had to do a double take. From the dark background behind shortcut names on the homescreen to the green and grey dialer I thought Gingerbread was still lurking about somewhere. I use Nova Launcher pro to make most things look like ICS but it looks like I'll have to root and flash to finish the job. For some reason it really me.
Thanks to all for the help.

So I'm loving this One, but some of the stock apps I'm not liking (primarily MMS, mail, browser, keyboard, launcher)
I've installed Nova, Chrome, Swiftkey, chomp, and gmail, which are doing a great job of replacing and I've nearly got the phone in a good place.
My problem is that the Sense lockscreen still shows the stock apps, including indicators for new text messages i've already read via chomp. Now that I'm using Nova Launcher, I can't figure out how to modify the sense lockscreen to change the apps that are at the base there.
Almost all of this is being done because while I like blinkfeed enough, I already use Flipboard and don't want that as my initial screen and it seems like Sense isn't going to allow us to have a more traditional homescreen with blinkfeed to the left or right. I'm also not a huge fan of swapping between modes of blinkfeed+icons and traditional home screen.
I'm posting this here in T-mo General looking for advice because flashing another ROM isn't an option for me. My understanding is that flashing a ROM will lose the wifi calling capability, and that is really important for me. What would you guys do?
You should only lose wifi calling if you flash a AOSP based ROM. I understand that you want to "de-sense" you're phone so an AOSP ROM would be your best bet.
This phone is brand new so development is still slow right now but I bet you should start seeing some Sense-based ROM's without all the Sense bloat start popping up soon
In regards to your lockscreen issue, have you looked into using a lockscreen replacement like WidgetLocker?
Did you replace the icons in the dock on Rosie (Sense launcher).
I'm still using the Sense launcher and my lockscreen shows what I have on my dock.

That is correct. You will just have stock android camera without Zoe and all that jazz
I usually always go AOSP but I really like the camera features here. Gonna be a tough call

You will lose wifi calling if you flash a non-tmobile rom, like one of the M7 HTC One roms or an AT&T rom.

Is it possible to flash the camera apk? is there a camera apk or is it part of sense itself?
I'm gonna take an educated guess based on my experience with Samsung. Usually custom camera apps are deeply integrated in custom android versions (sense, tw, etc). You can pull the apk and may even get it to install but my guess is that it will FC

If you look in the AT&T sub forum of the One, there is a ahpla of CM10.1 which means that CM10.1 is being worked on right now for the One. I am sure it will work with all HTC Ones once it is done. I would give it a month or two and we should be pretty good off. It is still really early in the game.
Are there any dialer replacement for android at all? I'd like to have one that resembles google's dialer , I installed simpler contacts , simple dialer, ex dialer and they all seem to work until I try to make a call, then they "redirect me" to the stock samsung dialer which is not only ugly but it makes me crazy because after I hang up takes like 3 seconds to go back to the homescreen, any ideas?

No exdialer also uses the samsung dialer when you make an actual call :crying:
Probably because Samsung dialer is embedded in seccontacts but as soon call trying to connect it goes to legacyincallui
Samsung have end call screen which lasting for couple of seconds (probably 1.2 to 1.9 seconds depends on condition it gets disconnected. So solution can be by removing that call end layout with modifying layout or reduce end call screen timeout with smali level editing. In both case not easy if you are not Pro with this stuff.

I think that dialer. It looks and works almost like lollipop dialer. Try it!
Edit: KK Phone https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kk.dialer
I use this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simpler.dialer&hl=en
The Dev also has a contacts app with an embedded dialer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simpler.contacts&hl=en
The Sammy dialing screen is embedded; I'm not sure there's an app that really gets around this. Modding is the better solution but Sammy has so many variants that the development effort on devices is fractured -- I've yet to see a theme that covers all the basic apps (systemUI, dialer, contacts, S Planner, etc) to give them a proper Material Design makeover. If there were just one or two variants of the device, I'm pretty sure we'd have already seen more extensive theming and modding.

That's the same app I use simpler contacts and that's what I was afraid to hear, that there's no way to prevent the phone from using the stock dialer when you make calls
I'm hoping we will get the Galaxy s6 dialer which it's a bit better and specially that we will get the s6's theme engine with the 5.1.1 update but so far there have been no rom leaks so I don't what to think anymore.
Is there any update on this issue yet?
I have tried to use Wanam Xposed to code this out but it will not work.
You can change the ugly white UI in the settings menu which is something at least.
But the stock dialer color will not change.
Does anyone know of a mod to flash back to the dark Jelly Bean dialer?

Just to mention it, if you use any of the 5.1.1 roms, the note5 dialer works prefect on it. Just over right old and set permissions. It is also much, much closer to the aosp one with very few changes. I won't be home until tonight but will try and post it later if anyone wants it.

True Phone is the best.
Any simple way to change the dialer colour. Im on Note 4 N10G on downgraded Kitkat 4.4.4. The JB dialer had a black background when the call is dialling which changed to green when the call connected. But in this stock dialer the background remains green even before the call connects

KK dialer bro. Check it on Google play
KK like other dialers only provides interface BEFORE call is dialled. Once dialled it goes to stock dialer interface.

Anybody ever found a solution for OP to bypass stock dialer when actually calling? I absolutely can't stand the stock dialer for functional reasons, not aesthetic ones. The mute button right next to call end?!? What kind of smart idea was that? I'm on 1-hour conference calls all day long, and often mute. A smidge off and then I'm stuck redialing a [email protected]** conference code again. Horrible user experience design. Call end should be isolated far from other common buttons. Anyway, back to the topic, any way to replace or bypass stock dialer... and particularly without root, for those of us who want to still be able to use mobile wallet and banking apps?
