May have done something stupid, please advise - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

I have a Best Buy 16GB Flyer, shipped with HBOOT 1.11.0003 and ROM version 1.36.1540.32. You know, the standard.
I accidentally (sigh, yes) flashed one of the Honeycomb ROMs to my Flyer, which took the HBOOT up to 6.10.1002. Here's what the fastboot getvar all command reads now:

I restored my Nandroid backup of the stock ROM, and everything seems to work correctly. What I'm wondering, however, is if this has any performance implications? If so, is there a way to return to 100% stock?
I understand that the RUU for this model is not available. Is there another RUU that would work just as well? I believe RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_Wifi_2.27.1114.31 would work, but RUUs reset root, and I believe the hboot this RUU comes with does not work with Revolutionary.
I don't care about returning it to stock for RMA/repair purposes. I only want to return it to stock if my performance has been impacted as a result of the newer honeycomb hboot.
//EDIT:
Also, does anyone have some insight as to why the app tray and notification shade are choppy on this device? Everything else is liquid smooth, but these two things seem to have problems.

I cant comment on the HC flash, as i have no experience with that, but i do have the same device as you, and even overclocked to 1.7Ghz with a custom rom, those two items are still choppy for me aswell. I think it has to do with the Sense UI, because the other launchers (like Launcher Pro and ADW) do not lag in the app drawer like Sense does.

I think that more or less answers both of my questions. I couldn't remember if these two things were choppy before the hboot upgrade, but it seems it's been that way all along.

Great, glad i could help. I immediately noticed the app drawer lag, so that's definitely consistent with the stock and rooted roms.

I am on honeycomb and have no lag witth the app tray or notifications. 2.3 didnt have it for me either.

How do you like Honeycomb? Do you feel it's a good daily driver? I hate stuttery performance, and I'm worried the single core can't keep up. Is that unfounded?

You had no lag in the app drawer when using sense on 2.3?
EDIT:Here is a video how mine as it is currently, i would consider this laggy bc the icons do not move smoothly. Its not severe, but its there.

Hi..does this mean you have a nandroid backup of gingerbread? And could revert back from HC?

US BB wifi version?
Easy to root, just follow the guide. Then you can run any custom GB ROM or keep it stock.
Only issue is if you take the plunge to Honeycomb, you can never go back since there is no compatible RUU.
I only really have two complaints about the GB Flyer vs. HC. other than the pen integrates better in HC.
1. The Sense widgets are huge on GB and the screen grid layout is sized for a phone, not a table. HC looks so much better.
2. The browser in HC seamlessly syncs bookmarks with desktop Chrome and other settings automatically are backed up in a much better fashion than GB.
That being said, the current HC beta has enough flaws that I cannot use it. The camera doesn't work in apps like Skype, camera 360, etc. and the mail widget stops working. Some apps FC , so for me its not good enough for prime time use, but it is much prettier and faster on the tablet. Biggest issue for US users is no way to recover back to stock or Gingerbread from the HC beta.

Dude, that's not lag, the app drawer is paginated in this version of sense, my thunderbolt Rom is the same way.

It's lag. It's very clear that the app tray is running at a lower FPS, and suffers from microstuttering, whereas other parts of the UI do not.

It means the ROM did not flash successfully (boot loop), but it upgraded my hboot. I returned to stock GB with a Nandroid.

Exactly, its supposed to be much smoother. Just.download launcher pro and open the app drawer and you will see the diff. I understand that it scrolls from app page to page, its that animation that's laggy.

I love honeycomb its a great daily driver. No lag. I only I personally have is not having hulu plus. I have netflix to make up for that though. I personally love typing this out on honeycomb on my tablet. Sorry for taking to long for messaging back. Was playing with my daughter

Default Wifi Flyer ROM?!

Does anyone know if there is a default Wifi ROM for the Flyer I bought from Best Buy? I want to go back to the default setup as many things don't work.
Thanks,

I've not seen it floating around anywhere yet.
A bunch of us have been looking for this. I'd be a little more adventurous with the HC Beta ROMs if I had a failsafe in place (stock RUU).

Hm... what about their Facebook? Seems to be quite active. I think Honeycomb would give this tablet new life IMO.
I took a nose dive and installed honeycomb anyway. And I can say I am quite impressed only problem I have is fring and my fron facing came. It's just upside down in portrait mode. Other than that I have personally no problems and I use it all day. Hopefully a ruu will surface soon. But I won't need it until the real hc comes out for our flyers

Was the process pretty easy? Are you running the wi-fi flyer?
Its pretty easy to get to HC but you can't go back and while most things in HC beta work well, here's what I found.
Love the ROM. Only issues I have found are with the camera not working or very flaky with several apps including Skype, Paper Camera, Camera 360, SnapBooth, Notes, etc.
Additional bugs I found.
Mail widget stops working often
Bluetooth headset does not work properly. The devices pair fine and Audio out is ok , but the microphone on the head set is not used. Audio in is input from the Flyer's built in mic. I tired both a Jabra 3030 and a Motorola S9-HD
Tried with apps, Voice Search, Skype, and GrooveIP.
I have a wifi only US model Flyer
I've emailed them via their website, and get the standard "Thanks for you're email. We're working hard to provide the software updates you're asking about. Follow us on Twitter or Facebook for the latest news."
I wasn't asking about a software update, just when the WiFi BB RUU would be release...so it must be a standard answer.

Yes I have the WiFi flyer. And yes the process is very easy. It's not noob friendly. I have a noon account but I'm not a noon been flashing and customizing phones and all since the g1 so always had adb. Just never contributed the knowledge I have. I had a lot of mistakes but figured out how to fix just by reading. Read up on everything first before you flash anything. The things it may do or may not do may or may not interest. Everyone one has the personal interests and pet peeves. I like it. But u might not. Read up on threads and posts and check it out.
Personal disclaimer.....lol
I can't stress this enough. I took the risks. My idea may not b the best idea. If anything happens. I don't know you and I was drunk when I typed this........lol

Pretty sure once we (wifi flyer people) go Honeycomb, you can't go back. LeeDroid is gingerbread, so no-go for us.
If you have a USA flyer, you are stuck with HC once you go. Other countries, some can get back to GB with a RUU flash. LeeDroid is GB.
The first thing I did when I got this thing was make a stock ROM from a backup. I have a deodexed, rooted, battery percentage version as well. If anyone wants it let me know. It's the shipped 1.36.1540.32 ROM.
Unfortunately that does not help if you install HC, you cannot use a backup of a GB ROM with the HC recovery.

[Q] two rezound questions (ICS, tether)

quick questions..
1) What is best way to wifi tether without voiding the warranty (S-Off)
2) if I decide to go S-Off route and install ICS Sense roms, is there a way I get traditional rosie (round one, not the rectangular one with more icons). I prefer original HTC rounded style rosie.
1) I don't know, but just for accuracy, this phone doesn't have s-off, just an unlocked bootloader.
2) If you stick with the GB ROMs you will have the Rosie you want, I believe. Here's a shot of my homescreen:
EDIT: Just saw you asked about ICS and original Rosie... I don't know.
Well that was a wasted post! lol. Sorry.
anyone else has some feedback ?

Fera is completely right about not having S-OFF, we only have dev unlock which allows us to change boot, system, and recovery partitions.
There are wifi tethering options that don't require root. Most of which involve paying for wifi hotspot. There are free USB tethering options that do not require root.
If you go up to ICS, there is no current method to use Sense 3.5(the Gingerbread version of Sense). On ICS, you get Sense 3.6 or better which is the 5 column dock all of the current ICS ROMs have.

Yeah but the ICS Rosie is much more functional. It helps keep your desktop clean with its ability to put multiple apps into folders. When I briefly went back to GB to get the OTA radio update, I couldn't believe how much I missed the ICS Rosie.

If you actually have S-Off like I do and your running ICS like I am, then you should just be able to download the Wifi Tether App 3.1-beta 11. With that set up the device profile to Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE), enable routing fixing, and you should be set, also if you have the S-Off I guess you dont run into the issue of not being able to use the encryption, I'm able to use it no problem. There is no current method to get S-Off as previously stated by others, I have S-Off by pure luck, turned in my RELOCKED Rezound to my Local VZW store and the replacement they gave me had S-Off, stroke of luck!

being a noob.. i made a mistake of equating unlocked boot loader to s-off.
i am actually looking to wifi-tether without unlocking the bootloader. ad-hoc is fine. i know without unlocked bootloader, i get temp root. Is that enough to tether ? also i want to be able to tether without verizon figuring out (i think their official app changes the apn so they will know right away). And of course it will great if I can do it without buying any app..

sorry if you want to steal bandwidth, you have to root. Not sure how long temp root lasts these days.
And temp root is gone with the OTA so if you want the newer radios and the wifi tethering after the OTA you need to perm root.

relocked and unrooted-FASTER??!!

guys i relocked and unrooted my evo 3d with 2.17 ruu, latest ota, and i must say all the lag, temperature issues, and lack of smoothness is gone...originally, when i updated to .5 it was very smooth, so i rooted, but lack of source made me go back and i must say... is anyone else out there experiancing better performance when back to unrooted locked state s on.??

I cannot think of a reason why going back to unrooted would give you any better performance than running a stock 2.17.x.x or a rom based on it. I am currently running MeanRom v2.3 and I don't see how stock unrooted could out perform this device in terms of speed and battery life my phone has never been better. That being said if it is working for you and you do not need root for anything more power to you.

I found the same going back to a stock, rooted ROM after spending time with a number of custom ROM's. Definitely weird, but I haven't dwelt on it. I am sure there were more advanced settings and tricks I could have done with the custom ROM's to speed things up.
Non sequitor, my iPhone runs 50% faster bone-stock now vs. when it was jailbroken.
Its probably because you haven't installed anything. Install another rooted ROM and don't install anything. It flies.

After 25 hours use of new ICS leak - my experience

Simply good. I didn't expect to be this stable. Everything works. I made a Day in the life without an issue. I even took 3d pix and video. Battery life is similar or slightly better than Gingerbread. Just wanted to share my experience for those who hasn't tried. I did not flashed the new firmware (CDMA). Just same ole method of Wipe / Flash. Cheers

My battery life seems tons better than it was before. But who knows, maybe I had some crappy rom that said it was using a single core but it was really wasting battery by enabling the second one at all times.
All I know is I was reading on my phone for about an hour this morning and it was still at 92%.
Other than that, I'm pretty surprised with how well it's running. Sense 3.6 is ok, a little jarring to see some of the sense colors go out of the way for real ICS stuff (like when you're attaching a google account).
One thing I don't like is how they ruined the default app behavior. Before if you clicked a link from a twitter app, it asked what application to use. That's ok, you can change that particular thing from the default apps settings (and ICS Browser + destroys the default Sense browser), but if I'm in an email and I click a twitter name, it just goes straight to the browser. Previously it popped up a menu for a browser or twitter apps, and I'd rather have it go right to the app.
I'm a little disappointed that the Car Panel isn't there (Well, it is kinda. When I plug it into my car dock, the icon shows up in the bar, but there's no Car Panel App or anything). Other than that, the desktop dock mode is nice with the added music player feature. Everything runs smooth, and I definitely like the swipe feature in the drop down menu and task killer.
Adding the performance tweak has made this thing fly..sacrifice just a little battery but its worth it.

Like I said, that works fine for which browser to open thankfully, because the stock browser is as bad as it's ever been, but there's nothing in there for anything else I want to deal with, like twitter links from gmail. They don't let you add anything
Peep is missing, it kinda kills Friend Stream's usefulness & Twitter contact syncing.
Great release though.

Very nice ics starting rom
Hi,
I tried this ROM this afternoon,
My phone: HTC EVO 3D x515m
Camera: 5M*2
hboot: HTC *** UNLOCKED METHOD ***
SHOOTER_U PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.49.0018
Oct 3 2011 15:03:01
First, I extracted the boot.img from the archive and I flashed with the option of EXT Recovery.
I rebooted in recovery (4EXT v1.0.0.5 RC3 Build 102)
I Wiped data, system, CACHE, Dalvik-Cache
Then I flashed the ROM and then reboots Virtuous_Shooter_v.3.0.0.zip
I tested:
Bluetooth OK (associated with a headset MOTOROLA)
Phone OK (not stop during a call)
Wifi OK
2D and 3D camera OK
Spiderman 3D OK!
I realized that the ROM was not rooted. So I flashed in Recovery mode, Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip. ROOT is ok now.
When configuring the phone, I took the backup on Google. All my applications were then restored.
I restored the data from each application with Titanium Backup.
I think we would finally an ICS ROM from which The developer will be able to build their new ROM.

Peep is missing, it kinda kills Friend Stream's usefulness & Twitter contact syncing.
Great release though.

I saw somewhere that Peep isn't going to be available anymore with the ICS update and the official Twitter app would replace it. Don't remember where though.

My battery life has been worse than when I was on mean or zr3d. I am down half battery and it is only noon.
I don't like the new gmail app. The old one was dark this one is white and for me hard to see what is new and what is old.
In time it will be better. I dis not flash the firmware. Just the ROM.

I've tried clean Rom and icsensedeck and my camera doesn't work... Locks up and power cycles.

The Gmail app isn't new in the update(just the icon), and it's always been white since the beginning of time... A lot of ROM developers and themers have made different color variants, though, with the most popular being the 'Inverted Gmail' which is probably what you got used to using.
My experience with the ICS leak was good and bad. I like all the changes to UI, but some of the stuff was buggy at times. First, it took a few reboots/battery pulls after flashing to even boot into the ROM for the first time. I have Sprint VM saved on SD, and after installing it, it didn't work. Cache cleaner app was non-responsive. I'd go to clean the cache and it would sit there for several minutes 'cleaning' until I just gave up. I restarted the phone once and when I went back to open my text messages, all I saw were phone numbers(instead of contact names) for a few minutes until I turned on Wifi and everything sync'd again.... just a few things I can remember right off-hand. I'll probably just wait until we at least have a 'Sprint Leak' to go back again. I'm sure the OTA isn't too far away anyway..

Actually gmail does update for ICS and only for ICS. It is completely different from the gingerbread version it takes some time to get use too but the end result is I kind of like it.
I love the release but I just wish the app drawer was side to side instead of top and down.

[Q] Thinking of switching

I have the HTC 8X and I am missing Android. I am thinking of getting the DNA. I have some questions though.
1. Is there the three dot menu bar? If yes, Is there a way to remove it?
2. Is there an S-OFF solution? If not can kernels and recoveries be flashed using Flash Image GUI?
3. I am not a real gamer but I did read that many games do not run. Is this true and has it been fixed?
4. Are you happy with it?
Thanks for your help
I can only answer 3 & 4.
Some games do not run on our phone because of screen resolution. The games shod be receiving updates soon to fix this issue.
To be honest with you I am happy with the phone. It is not the holy god of devices but it does the job real well and I enjoy it.
Iime the screen... The quad core processor flies and I haven't had any radio issues like I did on my galaxy s3.
Overall I think that this phone is one hell of a device and you should defenetly give it a shot.

1: yes and yes, rooting it and getting a Rom with the remapping of the recent apps button.
2: there is currently not a s-off method. Apparently one exists though and may come out next month. But at this point we are still able to flash roms and kernels, albeit its harder to flash kernels with s on.
3: most games run, there are a few where they haven't set it to work with a 1080p screen, although updates should be conning soon.
4: absolutely. This is the first phone I have been happy with on stock. It is fast and looks amazing.
