hi everyone. im new to this forum and android and wanted to ask a couple simple quetions. im wanting to root my VM Optimus V but dont really know where to look. can someone recommend me the best and simplest way to root it and over clock it? over clocking is the only thing i really want to do, dont need the fancy roms and things. also, does rooting void your best buy warranty? or is it just installing custom roms? thanx to who ever responds
Where is Dr Notor when you really need him?
SuperOneClick, Franco 1.1 and SetCPU.
And yes, unless you KDZ restore to stock before you RTM it.
optimus v can be rooted using super one click..overclocking? there's so many applications nowdays, as suggested above setCPU, antutu's, system tuner, etc..you may also try setVsel..

if it's an ov with froyo 2.2.2 and zv5 baseband, superoneclick won't work, you have to use gingerbreak.
you have to install a custom kernel with overclock enabled to be able to go over 600 MHz.
newer ov's have a screen from sprint which is incompatible with older custom kernels, you'd currently have to use BobZhome's kernel from IHO roms if you use a gingerbread rom,
or a Xionia kernel (zefie's v13 or v14, which have usb mass storage problems, or drewwalton's xionia redux) with a froyo rom like stock, and xionia also works with gingerbread roms too.
xionia kernels new enough to use are built for the optimus s, and so they have the home and menu keys reversed; you have to use a button remapper with those.
rooting voids your warranty, like was said earlier.
kdz is nearly useless for the optimus v, there is no firmware to flash with kdz except sprint optimus firmware, which will destroy your ability to use data on the virgin mobile network.

Hi
I recently got my LG P500 which is my first Android phone.
I have to say it's really awesome! Though it took me a whole friggin day to get the custom restore set up, it was well worth it
I am currently running the Void Mod and the new Kernel by mik_os. Both work great!
Now there is only the software version. I have the 10a version and I heard that the 10c (I have it already on my PC) would solve the +001 bug.
My question is: If I update do I have to completely wipe my phone?
Cheers!
don't install the V10C update. it solves 1 bug but brings home many.
you should wipe your mobile. anyway everything will get deleted. so wipe as a precaution so nothing.
PS: also depends which country rom you talking about. cause different rom solves different problems & offers new ones.
I am talking about the european 10c
So just to clarify: When I install the 10c (or 10a for that matter) I will always delete my custom rom, kernel, loose root and will have to do it all again from scratch?
Is it expected that Gingerbread will come with a new software version or is that a LG problem?
V10C cannot be rooted. So don't install/upgrade to this version.
How come it cannot be rooted? I thought impossible is nothing?
So lets rephrase my question to 10a...
When I install the 10a I will always delete my custom rom, kernel, loose root and will have to do it all again from scratch?
Thx

Hello there,
I recently changed from symbian to android.....Can some help me on how to apply themes in wildfire ...especially this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060333
Theming is very different in Android compared to Symbian. What you see there requires a Custom ROM with a Theme Chooser App inbuilt into it.
So, if you have a Custom ROM (Cyanogenmod 7 or Ginger Yoshi), then just install it, and choose via Theme Chooser.
Obviously, you will need root for it, which will not be possible via software if you are on Android 2.2.1
then if i update to 2.2 can i root?
No. Please read again. If you are 2.2 you can NOT root.
Until down to 2.1, most people stuck wit dis take time to read around, you'll find your
ok mine is 2.1 and am planning root it and use cyanogen mod...after doing this am gonna install the samsung touchwiz by rolle..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709763
will this provided touchwiz file work with wildfire without the need for rooting...?
if so ill updatet to 2.2 officially and install this launcher..plzz guide me
Its under the Nexus One Forum, so its unlikely it will work. There is some user who has developed TouchWiz for the Wildfire, and you can find it at the Wildfire Android Development Forum (Just use Search).
As for root, I don't know whether it will work without root or not, but, I would personally recommend you to not update to official 2.2.1 because you will lose the ability to root (Even if you do not intend to install Custom ROMs - At this point of time), and you will have to stick with the stock functionality, meaning you will not be able to change your mind later about installing root apps and Custom ROMs like Cyanogenmod.
Of course, if you are 101% convinced you will never require root and Custom ROMs, you are welcome to update to official 2.2.1
thanks alot for the advice ...i decided to root and install CM7 rom....can you provide me the link for the touchwiz file for wildfire...ill search for it too...
Good idea in not going for the official 2.2.1 update. It will atleast keep your options open for alternatives, even if CM7 doesn't suit you.
Anyway, here is Touchwiz for Wildfire.

Hello everyone,
so i registered yesterday in this forum, know it for a while now but was never useful to me because the "coolest stuff" to do on my LG always was needed to root it and i was (and still am) a bit afraid of doing it, since i dont understand nothing about it but i heard it can mess up your phone. So i thought of posting something here.
So i have a LG P500 and yesterday i updated the firmware or software (dont know how to call it). Now i have the official Gingerbread udpate. I was a bit disappointed as i always wanted to have that locking animation that nexus S has.
Yes, i know you might tell me to use the search button but i looked for something similar and someone said something about rooting the phone to use the CM7.
So what i wanted to know is. What are the pros and cons with rooting. Do i need to "instal" CM7 or something like that to have that lock animation even having the 2.3.3 official update? Do you advice me to root my phone even though i bought it a few months ago?(like march or something)
Im sorry if i should searched a bit more but i think its better to just talk directly with people who understand this phone stuff better then i.
Thank you in advance!
Ps: Im portuguese and i know there are a few portuguese members here, if any of them could help me with this i would appreciate!
I myself upgraded to the LG 2.3 gingerbread firmware v20b
and it sucks to the core
i downgraded to froyo v10e the very next day itself
the pro's of rooting is that
you get access to the core android files
and use your phone to the max
(example overclock, customized ROM's,hardware acceleration etc)
in short you get a much better phone and no lg crap bloatware etc
the con's are
if rooting doesn't go properly you'll end up with a bricked phone
and your warranty will be void
my suggestion is
if your not so much into your cell
i mean you dont use it a lot for 3D gaming and other hi resource using applications
and just need for messaging,music,net
then dont root
else root
and enjoy your phone

im sure there are applications
or some launcher which will have what your looking for
Just do it.
I rooted it 3 days after I bought it.
But be careful while doing so, there are chances of bricking your phone.and yes, warranty will be void. But you can, anytime,go back to stock firmware just in case if you want your warranty.

Hi,
For me the main advantage of rooting is that you can use a custom recovery (= do nandroid backups) and that you can install different kernels (better performance but mainly better battery life).
I have been on official 2.3.3 since months now (waiting until Andy's Phoenix ROM matures a bit), and I must say that I'm quite happy with it (with LauncherPro of course).
Just be sure to install a good recovery (CWM 4.0.1.5 or so) and that you make a nandroid backup before you flash something new.
Oh and here's the howto I used to root my brother's phone yesterday...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146566#3
And here's a collection of working recovery images (flashable)

So to see if i get it, by "custom recovery" you're saying i can use a "custom image" that someone created to improve my phone?
I didnt quite undestood the nandroid and CWM recovery parts! Im really sorry for all the questions but im still a noob in this area and i was hopping i could get to know a little more about this in this forum!
Ps: thank you all that answered till now!

Hi, as u said u r novice, & does not know anything.
My suggestion is to use ur cell for few months & search in google & XDA whatever u have doubt. Then understand one by one things.
I am telling because my cell was bricked with doing all these things, I voided warranty & i have to change my entire board for 3,000/-
I think no use with all these rooting & flashing, roms, getting headache with this stuff.
Just use ur phone as it is, & u may install new new softwares & games as market is producing a lot daily.
I have bad experience with all these experiments.
Rooted my p500 successfully ...
Rooting is NOT for novices.
Rooting requires some basic (to slightly advanced) understanding of the way this android software works. It also requires some basic understanding of the way in which kernel, over-clocking etc., work. And, one should also understand the limitations (of hardware, processing power, storage, RAM etc.,) of one's mobile phone.
Thankfully, I rooted my P500 successfully yesterday. And, loaded Titanium Backup and got going in the `rooted mobile' arena.
Removed some unwanted/useless applications like bollywoodji, vaccination tracker, etc., successfully.
i think rooting is a piece of cake. enable debugging mode, connect phone to pc, press the ROOT button

Actually very few people have bad experiences with rooting and related stuff. Most of us (including me) have done it right, and are enjoying the benefits.. Just follow the instructions carefully and everything will be alright. And make sure that whatever process you do, it is NOT INTERRUPTED in between. That's all.
Also, if you were in the stock froyo firmware, you could have simply rooted using gingerbreak. The 2.3 based firmware can also be rooted, but requires a few more steps, you can search and find out about that.
I would personally suggest not to use ROM manager for installing custom recovery on your P500, because when I used it, my phone got stuck in the fastboot mode. But with a little effort I could make it right.
All the best!
Hi all,
So I just picked up a Xperia Mini Pro today... pretty solid looking phone, performance is "average" w/ the stock ROM. This is my first Sony android, but I've rooted and flashed CM7 on many HTC and Samsung devices (i run a G2 and SGS myself)
Anyway, after spending the whole week reading up on this phone in XDA, i realize that there's one question that I can't seem to find any good info on.
Basically, I'm never gonna use this phone on stock ROM (that's just silly) and I'm gonna flash to CM7 like my other phones
I'm a bit confused as to which method is the more "proper" way.
What's the recommendation of anyone who has the SK17i/a?
do I use the FlashTool method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10879507#post10879507)
or do I use the method provided in the wiki from the cyanogenmod site? (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_Mini_Pro:_Full_Update_Guide)
The only important steps are really: rooting, unlocked BL and install CMW ... flashing CM7 is prob the easiest step of all
I'm comfortable doing either way, both instructions seem pretty straight forward and clear-cut ....but i just wanted to know which one I should be using to make this process a bit smoother for me
I just bought this phone yesterday and love it, but it does seem to be crammed with too much rubbish. this is my first android phone. I've rooted it, but still trying to decide whether to flash to CM7 (i've had iphones before and i'm guessing CM7 is the android version of Custom Firmware) Are there any step by step guides for THIS phone on flashing to CM7 as i'm still learning about android handsets.
hi.. i am also new to SE Xperia Mini.. and i am a former Samsung Galaxy 5 user.. i used to have a a CM7 in my galaxy 5.. and flashing on a samsung phone was easy..
i'm would also want to see a step by step guide on flashing.. thanks..
so, it didn't take long for me to realize that CM7 just doesn't work that great for this particular phone
... Feel free to read up on the known issues (ie: no hardware keyboard support)
Anyhoo...I updated my firmware and flashes hybrom v8...great looking ROM

For rooting, just follow the steps here. As for custom roms, haven't seen one yet. Custom Recovery for P690 still has to be verified if it'll work with P698.

Both run adw launcher is pretty cool. But personally I did not like both. One could see the battery drain in numbers, which was horrifying!
Moreover, has it ever occurred that when you are running a launcher, the phone does not sleep how long it takes or press the power button? It happens to me occasionally, and goes to sleep only if I call the LG home launcher. Does anyone know a way out?

OK, update on the ROMS i tried...
the one named "borodinka"
pros:
1. the roms are smaller than the stock ones, and hence got a bit more storage space free.
2. Very very smooth. ADW launcher is built in. The whole thing, including menus are smooth
3. Looks like battery life improved a bit. I remeber draining out by night, but now it stays till morining with an overnight charge
4. No Bloatware. ES FIle explorer, MX Player are built in
5. Some kind of a techie font. not sure which one. but good/you'll get used to it.
cons:
1. Phone does not lock initially. Had to install LG Home Launcher from apk i found somewhere else in the forum to get it lock. Same happens initially after every reboot. Looks like something in the LG Home is responsible for sending the phone to sleep or so.
2. no native support for PDFs (very important for me) in ES File Explorer, i wish it was AntTek File Explorer. Both the file manager and the video player are better in the SD Card (which is not possible since it comes shipped with) to save space.
3. Sometimes loses range on either or both SIMs (which was probably there with the stock ROM and thus) might be a hardware issue.
4. Touchpal keyboard seems to have issues lately. Does not show up (and renders the phone crazy) after trying to import contacts. maybe it has to do with the latest update of the app, or lack of storage in my phone.
5. has 4pda app (and that too in german) preinstalled.
6. Default APNs are not available in the apn editing page. Had to enter stuff manually. Had data connection problem once, but got it running after a factory reset.
The other one, the name which skips my mind now, has similar characteristics, which i'll review soon.
Dual sim function works as old. The Cell broadcast widget and the dual sim status widget are unavailable. Range failures are present, i guess, as in most dual sim phones.
