gorilla glass? - HTC Amaze 4G

i searched everywhere, but can't find out the answer. so does this phone have gorilla glass? it'd be a shame if it didn't compared to all the other htc phones that have it.

I doubt it, there was a whole big thing with the EVO 3D and so many random answers about if it did or didn't from not only HTC but even from Corning. My Vibrant without a screen protector had zero scratches with heavy usage for over a year, Evo 3D had a scratch within a week, being babied.
but from Corning's site, listed devices
HTC: 7 Mozart, 7 Surround T8788, Aria, ChaCha, Desire, Desire HD, Desire S, Desire Z, Dopod A6388, Dopod T8388, Dragon, Droid ERIS, Droid Incredible, EVO 3D, EVO 4G, EVO Shift 4G, G1, G2, HD2, HD7, HD mini, Hero, Incredible S, Inspire 4G, Legend, myTouch 3G, myTouch 3G Slide, myTouch 4G, Salsa, Sensation, T9199, Thunder Bolt, Tianxi T9188, Trophy, Wildfire

Gorilla Glass
Yes, it does have Gorilla Glass.
Search Google for Engadget Amaze 4G Gorilla Glass. The page was down when I searched but google's cached version is still up.
The screen is the best screen I’ve ever seen on a handset as well and yes I have seen the Galaxy SII.

HERE IS THE REPLY I GOT DIRECT FROM HTC WHEN I EMAILED THEM IF THIS PHONE HAS GORILLA GLASS. CAN SOMEONE TRANSLATE IT TO ME?
"Thank you for contacting HTC Technical support about if the Amaze has Gorilla glass. In our commitment to quality, HTC pioneered the use of shatter-proof glass in smartphones. At the time, Corning was the only manufacturer and we used their product, Gorilla Glass. Since then, many manufactures have developed and advanced shatter-proof glass technology, allowing HTC to use the highest quality cutting edge shatterproof glass in our smartphones while keeping costs low for our customers"
I TAKE IT AS A NO.

We got multiple answers from HTC and Corning about the Evo 3D having Gorilla Glass. Almost positive they've strayed away from it.

I could have sworn my Evo and Iconia did not have gorilla glass. I remember reading some forums about this on before I bought the Iconia. I have had an Evo for ten months and this is the first I've heard of it, but hey I could be wrong neither one of my devices have a single scratch on the screen.
EDIT: By the way I hope to read good things about this phone, I hope to buy it within the next month or so.

the evo 3d was said to have both gorilla glass and some proprietary blend from htc, so it was a toss up if you got it or not.. if I remember correctly.
all I know is my vibrant went scratch free from over a year of use, and my evo 3d got a scratch being babied within a week

I've had GG devices and this would NOT have happened with GG! Corning does NOT list the Amaze. HTC, during a 5-6 email correspondence with me evaded my question but when pressed admitted the Amaze doesn't have GG, but they would not say what they used. Maybe Dragontrail? Maybe something really cheap? They said it was to save money for the consumer but then why do they charge more than Samsung does for the Galaxy SII that DOES have GG? I can post my correspondence if anyone wants it, but it's a confusing jumble; HTC CS uses some really weird software!

are you sure about that? my friend had a sensation, which is listed under Corning's website, and yet when he dropped it, the screen shattered like the picture OP posted...

Gorilla Glass is just a brand name...it probably has some type of fortified glass. It's not like Gorilla Glass is the best or anything?...Right?

If you actually read what gorilla glass is all about you'll see that it is designed to be harder to scratch, not harder to shatter. There's a big difference.

GG is still glass. It's supposed to be just a tad bit stronger and scrach resistant that regular glass. In the end, it's still glass.

[Q] Gorilla Glass on the Vibrant

Can anyone confirm that the Vibrant indeed does or does not have Gorilla Glass by Corning?
I am getting conflicting information.
Thanks

BTW: If it does indeed have it is there really a need for a screen protector?
I had lunch with a samsung rep who claimed it did. I tried to confirm via the internets but all I found was rumors.

That's what I was thinking....
Have one you recommend?
Corning put out a press release last year stating that they'd picked up Samsung as a customer for Gorilla Glass® for their touch screen phones. All the Galaxy S series phones have Gorilla Glass®. Even the craptastic Behold II had it. The story is the same for basically all Motorola phones too, though I'm not sure about HTC (at least I've not seen anything official).
Corning Supplies Samsung Electronics with Gorilla™ Glass for Touch Screen Mobile Phones
Granted if you look at Corning's device list the Galaxy S series phones are not listed, but you can also notice the list itself is obviously fairly old.
Corning has the contract for Samsung, this much we know.
After watching some of the videos on youtube, I am not too worried. However, some on here have stated they received minor scratches, but none of those posts indicated WHAT they did to their phone that would cause a scratch.... the videos on youtube could make you cry though and only the box cutter caused scratches from what I could tell.

You should check out a thread in the Vibrant accessories thread on XDA, multiple pages about screen protectors. I just installed my invisibleshield and after trying it out will put an update in that thread. Some people say the invisibleshield makes swyping hard. The others recommended are Clearfreak and Reallook, although the latter seems to be what people are swaying towards now.

I'm waiting on the Reallook to arrive and can post results, the T-Mobile one was not good at all with the matte finish.
My phone was sitting on a wooden bench, and as we all know this phone is crazy slippery. On its own, it slid off the bench into the dirt below (about a 3ft drop). I now have what I would call a chip on the screen, not a scratch. So if we do have gorilla glass, it doesn't do ****. Imma order a screen protector on payday. Also it may be my imagination but I'm pretty sure the chip is getting bigger. I'm sure I'm just tripping balls though.

I highly doubt that this phone has gorilla glass. I put it in my pocket a couple times with the included earbuds and got a couple scratches as a result, one of which is visible when the screen is in use.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The glass isn't necessarily the top surface. From what I was reading about the stuff they often use other layers. That means if we do have gorilla glass the screen may still scratch, it will just be harder to break.
i think that list is out dated because it doesn't say anything about the dell streak and that defo got the gorilla glass
Crazy to hear people saying EAR BUDS are causing scratches.... that is NOT what I viewed when I saw an Asian dude ripping a screw into the screen with no scratches.
Doesn't make sense... I'm not doubting someone on here, but I am not experiencing that and the phone has taken a LOT worse on videos you can watch.
I can say this much atleast lol earbuds definately would not scratch the screen, my girlfriend got her Vibrant at a Samsung training event a few weeks ago, and I watched her attempt to scratch the **** out of her screen with her keys. not a single scratch on it, I was impressed.

Does it have Gorilla Glass?

I read that the Sensation has a Gorilla Glass screen, wondering if the 3D has it as well. My Vibrant has it, and it's very good at resisting scratches.
Any news?
Yes it comes with it
There are actually others that are better but don't get the press that the primate gets... Anyway, my Evo never got a scratch... And I'm pretty rough on it.
Well I've read a lot that the sensation has it. Maybe hatch couldn't use it because ofcthe 3d?
Oh well. This phone is still going to be awesome.

I think pretty much any top of the line smartphone that has a glass screen, is going to be gorilla glass. If you go on their website it lists pretty much every brand under the sun. Including majority of htc phones. I have an hd2 and it says mine is gorilla glass. Never knew that.
sorry that I refresh old topic but still do not know. There is many conflicting informations. now, when phone is out already can somebody cofirme does HTC EVO 3D has gor gorilla glass or not?
According to some people... yes. (only because other HTC devices have it...)
According to HTC... no.
According to Corning... no idea.
According to Sprint... no idea.
I've posted the screenshot from HTC to me before where they say that the EVO 3D is not listed for having Gorilla Glass. It's floating around the forum in two places actually.
According to the Sprint rep who sold me my 3VO... no.
He appeared rather knowledgeable, and another customer there that morning told me my rep had been at that store for years. I told the rep my Hero came with Gorilla Glass and he was surprised, but he was confident the 3VO doesn't have it.
wow...who would have ever known!?

Will a screen protector cause issues with viewing 3D content?

I wonder if adding a screen protector to the Evo 3D will cause issues with viewing 3D pictures/videos/movies. Maybe not, but still something to think about...

I never understood screen protectors... I've had a release day HeroC and never had any screen issues. (Same with ol' wifey)
IMO, screen protectors look okay for a week or two then either come off at the corners or have small circles of non-contact. Either way, I think they aren't necessary and may even decrease touch screen sensitivity.
IMO, they obviously have thought of screen protection in the building of the phones. But I guess if you like the belt-&-suspenders look by all means play on, Playa.
EDIT- we also have two daughters that tinker with the phones with who knows what all over their little hands. Still no screen problems ever.

I'm not looking to get one of the cheap ones. I'll be getting one with the anti-glare that doesn't leave finger prints and what not. I just know it's a little different, and I wonder if it will cause issues. We'll just have to wait and see. Either way, I can use my phone without a screen protector. Been doing it for years, but I'd like to invest in a nice anti-glare cover.

Gorilla glass

Ok so I tried searching but couldn't find anything, though I'm sure someone asked before.
I've read conflicting reports on weather or not the att version of the gs2 has gorilla glass.
Can anyone confirm that it does? do any of you that have had the phone a while see many scratches?
I have the captivate and am blown away at the fact that this thing is nearly scratch proof. I just want to make sure the gs2 has it. Also do you know if the sky rocket has it? which phone do you guys recommend.

Gorilla glass does nothing as far as preventing scratches, the glass is to prevent cracking when dropped so it doesn't look like an ifail that hit the ground from 2 feet.
Its anti scratch not scratch resistant. its glass, it will scratch eventually.
Yes it has gorilla glass, and it is very scratch resistant. I've had mine for around four months and the screen still looks like it did when I got it.

You might want to check what gorilla glass does or doesn't, it's scratch resistant as well as tougher overall.
the iDevices also use corning
And now that i think about it, the scratches i'm seeing might be to the oleo-phobic layer and not the glass itself.

I think you got that backwards.
I don't know if its actually "gorilla" glass. But I dropped my phone from about 4ft and it landed screen down on cement. Only damage was a few knicks out of the plastic edges, but the screen is completely intact. Its also survived in my pocket with my car keys and a few other nasty drops.
There's a great youtube video online of the SGII vs the Iphone 4s in a drop test from a couple of feet on concrete. The SGII does well whereas the Iphone has numerous cracks
According to Gorilla Glass reps it's pretty safe from scratches from more "organized" objects. Like metal keys, knife in the demo, stuff like that. But they say randomly assembled things like rocks, concrete, asphalts etc will scratch it. There's a YouTube video floating around.

I think the main difference is the iPhone has quite a big part of the screen edge completely unprotected whereas the SGSII doesn't.
I wonder how an iPhone with those bumpers cases would do.
I see so many shattered iPhones and iPod Touchs come in at work for repair I don't know why the hell parents are still buying these for their 12 year old kids heh. just to clarify from previous posts, the iphones/ipods do indeed have corning glass which can be pretty safely assumed to be gorilla glass based on numerous articles including this one here:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/02/apple-name-drops-corning-as-iphone-glass-manufacturer-we-feign/
also, i can't remember exactly where i read the article but i believe that apple basically invented the use for gorilla glass. i believe it was in the new york times or something or other in an article about the steve jobs biography which explained how corning initially approached apple about using this new highly scratch and shatter-resistant glass they had just developed but had no idea what use it could have.
the iphone at that point was due to launch in 6 months or so and corning insisted that the glass wasn't going to be ready yet but steve jobs being steve jobs pushed them hard to get it ready in time. so up until only 6-9 months before release the iphone prototypes had all used plastic screens.
don't quote me on any of this but if my memory serves me correctly this is roughly the story they reported

Partially correct, I think. Yes, i-phones do have corning glass (gorilla glass, even if not by name). No, it wasn't invented for apple. Corning invented it in the 60s, but couldn't find a use for it until Jobs called looking for something better after getting frustrated with scratches on his plastic-screened prototype. Corning proposed the product as a solution (not yet branded gorilla,as I recall), then did indeed have to scramble to get it produced on a short timeline.

Ah crap shattered screen?!

So I have a shattered screen on my HTC Evo LTE. (finally after about 6 drops on concrete)
I am more then happy to try and replace it myself. While looking the internet over it looks as if the HTC One X's screen is similar if not identical to the LTEvo. Is this true? When I look on Amazon for the screen I find that most of the screens fit say HTC One X/HTC Evo 4G LTE.
I just wanted to make sure first before I make a purchase! Thank all.

PS the screen and phone still works, it is just the outer glass that broke, so I am not in a hurry and am doing my research.
They are very tough to find at the moment from most suppliers. I know there are some on ebay here and there. I know someone with a few, but more so a private vendor.
I would not get a one x screen, you never know if any of the flex cables are different and be a useless purchase.
Thanks! I will keep on researching.

Oh man, not a fun shatter. The first week the SIII came out, we had 4 people bring them in to get fixed, the screen alone is around 250 at least if you can find it.
Screen protectors are slightly different between the 2 and u can notice the difference. The LTEVO is more square so u need one made for the evo 4G ltenot the one x
There are some people on xd a that'll sell them. Got mine for $60. Just learn how to install it before you break your phone.

Thank all.

I recently had the same experience. I ordered an allegedly OEM digitizer+LCD assembly from etradesupply (around $110) and had it installed by a local shop. Unfortunately, it's not perfect. Dust has gotten under the screen, the digitizer seems less sensitive, it attracts more fingerprints/smudges, and I've just noticed a stuck pixel. I wish I would've paid extra and gone with an official HTC repair.
I bought a replacement non OEM LCD from amazon for 55$ its better than original. I installed it my self and reused the digitizer. I am very happy with results, plus I don't think I could have done it for less $.

my randomly cracked along the bottom, one streak in the diagonal corner and one branching off along the bottom of the phone... it wasn't dropped or anything which is strange.
