[Q] CM7 updates - TouchPad General

I have read a bit about the cm team but am a little unclear how they update. Will they update via update.zip that they upload to code.Google periodically or will they just release whole versions that we just flash?
I don't care either way just more curious if they drop builds so often and I should watch for them
Sent from my HP Touchpad using xda premium

It will most probably be here until they release and merge it to official their mirror system and it will most probably be the whole rom in a .zip file (and it will most probably require wipe data/cache).

[ROM][4/15/11]Blackhole[4.4]

Thanks to Adrynalyn and his mystery source, we now have a new Froyo drop: EC01. No more bastardized hybrids, this is a pure EC01 rom, Deodexed, Debinged, and given the Blackhole overhaul.
Features:
Includes the latest EC01 mods by Sbrissen (No Full Batt popup, Reboot options, Clock Options, Acc Batt., 6 Lockscreens, Music controls, AOSP Phone answer)
Lockscreen is now changed through the "LockScreen Settings" application.
Standalone version includes Gallery, Music Player, Video Player, Browser, Calendar, Calculator, etc.
At this point I don't believe there will be any more Rom Manager releases, but I will be working on the ACS release as soon as I can find some time.
This is a Clockworkmod 2.x (green or red) flash, if you have Clockworkmod 3.x installed (orange) check out this link for an odin file to restore Red Cwm: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=556634&d=1301538947
Still having some problems with the neverending bootloop if you wipe /data so DON'T! If you're coming from stock or Superclean, or an older Blackhole rom there is no need. If you're coming from AOSP you should be fine too. If you're coming from Kaosinate or MIUI then you'll probably need to flash or odin back to stock before flashing this, but I haven't tested. After this rom is flashed do not wipe /data.

Now that all that's out of the way, enjoy the release of Blackhole 4.4!

Looking forward to it. Thanks for all you do.
Cant wait, love your work!
That's what I wanted to hear!!! But, I need to know how to flash back to a previous version of CWM recovery via rom manager. I flashed the 3.0 before I knew the problems it would cause. What do I need to do to be able to snag Blackhole 4.3? Thanks for any help.

WHOA....I thought Blackhole was done. Been keeping an eye on the other forum and it was dead for almost a month.
Yeah, between my life and their host its been hard to find time for this, but I'm glad to be working on the fascinate again. As crappy as samsung is, at least they're not suing us (sony) or bricking our phones for using unauthorized software (3ds). As far as the clockwork revert, I'll have files and instructions in the linked post tomorrow.

It feels as though perhaps EB16 could be the last update for this phone. Do you think this phone will ever see Gingerbread? I haven't read this anywhere, just personal gut feeling. What is your take on this?

Awesome!! Thanks SOS3 for all that you do. We love your roms. Maybe a dumb question but is 4.3 gonna have adryn's new EB16 working voodoo as one of the choices for the kernel?

Ned a little more info.
Will this phone see Gingerbread from Samsung or the people that actually know how to program?
I think getting Froyo was a big step because it was sooooo much different than 2.1. Difference between 2.2 and higher arent as huge, and 2.2+ is based on 2.2, so chances are we'll get there someday, with or without the "official" label.

You do know kaos is on the verge of releasing what we all expect to be a stable version of gb right?

Hopefully there will be some really close version tracking since there's been such a flurry of software tweaks for this phone!!!
thanks devs for your efforts!! I was a blackhole fanatic when I rooted since the update portal was so easy!!
Sweet! I was wonder if 4.21 was the end of the line for Blackhole. Looking forward to your next release!
For those who aren't good at reading between the lines, sonofskywaker3 is trying to tell us that the Blackhole 4.3 rom is currently available for VIP members at the link in the OP.
Enjoy!
Thanks for a great rom!

Like chrisexv6 says, Official Gingerbread from Samsung? I doubt it. That being said if there ever is a Gingerbread Rom, official or not, based on the Touchwiz Framework I'll update Blackhole to it, However I have no plans to make a CM7 version, or an AOSP version, simply because I'm starting to have trouble finding time to work on things, and I don't want the current project to suffer like it did when I spent all my time trying to get a vibrant version working. I'm sticking with stock Rom Modification for the Fascinate.
However, Gingerbread Roms based on AOSP or CM will be available and stable because of the work of great devs like Kaos, JT, Adrynalyn, and others.

Press menu then browser from within the thread in the xda app.
I am noticing that my signal strength is still as low as it would be with t-mobile as my service provider. Anyone know why these roms have worse antenna than the stock eb01 when we are using the same radio? I am a driver and my phone is dropping a lot of calls where it used to have full signal (like in my house). If anyone can help me fix this it would be greatly appreciated. Note:do not tell me to dial *228, I am not a noob.

If you have the red voodoo recovery as well as the rom manager 3.0 (orange) then you can download the addons for this from rom manager then press cancel when it prompts you for the install. Manually reboot into the red recovery and select install .zip from sd card/choose .zip/clockworkmod/androiddoes.net/sonofskywalker3/fascinate/ then find the corresponding downloaded file such as boot animation or app or theme and manually flash each, one at a time.
note: you do not need to reboot and start over after flashing each individual file. Flash all the files you want then reboot.

Upgrade Custom Rom

I currently have an old version of Trigger installed on my SGS and I was wondering if I download 293-294 update, if that includes all the updates since my old version (291) or if i need to grab every update between that frame. Essentially, are updates cumulative?
Just download the latest and install, no need to install each one
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
interesting. i wouldn't have guessed the cumulative updates were applied on a specified base version. these updates sound more like system pack updates in windows rather than updates

The latest update only updates the changes from 293 294. There isn't always an update for versions, better to start fresh with the full 294 version.

You need the full version.
BT is one of the few developers willing to make seperate updates for those on the latest rom.
You weren't, you need the wiping version.

I'm going to generalize, so this concepts aren't always 100% true but the majority of times they'll be correct. Generally, from HTC they release two types of OTA updates. 1) Only minor software updates. 2) Update both the kernel, android system, custom recovery, radio (sometimes bootloader and pri).
When the OTA updates are of the 1st situation, they are very minor and usually don't have *significant* impact on any part of the device. Essentially only patch bugs or glitches in HTC's bundled Sense/3rd party apps.
When the 2nd situation for OTA occurs, these updates are usually larger and more important. The impact on the device can be much larger as both the kernel and the system are being updated together.
In the 2nd situation, most of the time you'll want to make sure the kernel being loaded matches the version of system software being loaded. Sometimes they are backward/inter compatiable and sometimes they are not. Best practice is to keep the kernel/system software in sync.
In addition, for the 2nd situation, if a new kernel is released, HTC has *roughly* 30 days (not a hard number) to release the source code for the updated kernel. Until the kernel source is released, it will be very hard for developers to release customized versions of the new kernel.
Hope that helps!
joey,
thanks you've helped me so much going back to my Moment days. so to sum it all up, if I want a Rom with the updated 217, ,i need to go through the process of updating then unlock again or whatever?
thank you

Jellybean and flash

When we get Jellybean will we have major flash problems ?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Well when jelly bean comes along (likely to be end of august, I think 29th is rumoured for ota update) there will be no flash support. This is a known fact and I think its to do with tying to boost html5 use on the interent. This is what i've read and been told but it won't be too bad without flash
looks like it can be installed from a backup
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763805
but there will be no official support for it.
I will make a backup in titanium and install it after the update. My hope is this will allow things to be seamless whilst waiting for websites to pull their fingers out rather then having to swear at my phone when I cant get access to the content I want.

Sammobile OTA update files

Sammobile has a new function, namely the possibility to download pre-release OTA update files.
When you do so for the S2, you get a .zip containing 6 files:
debug_info
delta.hidden
delta.modem
delta.platform
delta.Sbl
delta.zImage
Does anybody know how to use these pre-release zips?
I think they should be flashed from recovery
Also they don't look like standalone full firmwares but small patches for full firmwares
Also I think they might be for specific ROMs.
If you have to ask this, I wouldn't suggest you use any of these. You need to do more research and understand what they are and how to use them.

Google them, search the xda site, possibly pm a nice dev and see if they might be kind enough to explain them.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
These files ain't got normal Recovery flashable file. The problem its, google doesn't give any information on this file content, only as much as that they are files with the difference between the two firmware versions.
They are even different to S3 OTA-Update files, which have an Update-Script and so on. Thus being CWM flashable.
To flash sammobile ota files on Galaxy S2 it is really easy :
1. First, create a "fota" folder on internal memory (/sdcard/fota)
2. Unzip the zip file in it
3. Reboot into Android recovery and select the last option (tesband service [fota])
And that's it. But you have to be sure to be on the right firmware before being able to apply it. If more info needed I could give you more details.
