I thought maybe it was just the Vibrant section.. but the other phones I look over seem pretty slow also.
regarding the Vibrant, what gives? Why so slow on here?
The easy answer is people have moved on to new phones (and a lot have), but there are way too many Vibrants out there for XDA to be THIS slow. Are there no more questions that need to be answered? Everyone working on the GB Source?

I don't think that there are no more questions to be answered, it's just that 99% of them already have been if people would be smart enough to search. If you look at development threads, pretty much all of them have the same questions in it and when a new thread is posted, the questions in that thread are the ones that have been previously answered.
Then there are those idiots that complain about a rom being horribly laggy (reflash fix) or having horrible battery life while the rom has only been out for less than a day.
I don't want to see dev's leaving but I can certainly see why they would be going away, xda is full of idiots and trolls.
yeah, I know what you mean... I don't know that I would say it so harshly... but it seems like the Q&A and General sections have nothing new to offer lately... work is surprisingly slow today and I was hoping XDA would fill this void... it hasn't.

Yup, I think the previous people said it best. At this point, the Devs et al have really got this phone running sooo good there are not alot of issues to cry about. That, and the pending new phones that are beginning to get released, as well as, the tablets got people less focused on the Vibrant and some of the other phones that are 10 months old.
I got a color nook for my daughter and it is a blast to flash and mod, So alot of my flashing urge is satisfied with that.
I think alot of us are just waiting until June when the new S2 comes out, Then there will be this HUGE swell of interest again. But until that time, the vibrant and Galaxy phones are such a great phone to have it really is hard to complain.
I do agree alot of the kids/trolls have been griping more as of late, but I think that is because we have all been more silent. All in All, Love this Forum and all the people who contribute to it.

I've come dangerously close multiple times on picking up a Nook Color, is it a viable tablet on CM7?
I've been splitting my time between here and Team Whiskey forums....i still love XDA but trolls aren't allowed in T.W. house ...i think when we get our TW ROM devs come back then we'll see some goodness back in the Vibrant forums...until then we're getting over-ran with ROM ports and themes.
I really dislike the idea of each "team" having their own site...
It's great for them... but it really hurts the "community!"
All of us could spend time navigating each of their site, and creating logins for each one... but it's just so nice to have EVERYTHING in one space.
And those who do branch off, always seem to come back anyway.

True, but i think the teams go to their own homes b/c of the a**ho*es that do nothing but talk crap about their work without giving thanks...devs at are at their own forums can moderate can control the content themselves as they see fit....when this "Recognized Developer" thing (that XDA Admins have been working on) starts, then devs can control their releasing threads and keep trolling and unnecessary complaining to a minimum...s15 is right, everything should be all in one place...this is XDA, where all smartphone knowledge and MODs originate and come together
Just my opinion...

I think everyone knows I respect your work a LOT. I know whats going on around XDA, but not so much behind the scenes. Can you help explain why it seems like a necessity?
Maybe if I understood that part of it better.
Is it really boiling down to spam in the threads/dumb comments?

It really is frustrating a lot.
Most of the time, haters will refuse to register on your site so that's automatically a filter on it's own. Next you have complete power to do anything & everything with your site.
I really wish everyone could stay on XDA but it seems like the amount of dumb we get is increasing daily and it's like there's no way out of it.
Also, people tend to think you're a lot more "professional" if you have a site.
^ you da man. Makes sense, completely understand coming from your perspective.
The reason for the increase in "undesirables" is just in the numbers. The more android catches on the more total people are going to visit xda. That's includes all types. From the seasoned developer looking to learn about android to the person that knows nothing but wants to learn to the person that, no matter what, will not search out even the simplest answer to the out and out troll.
Its just that odds are we hear the most from the latter two as the first two are more apt to search for their answer and ask questions when they truly can't find the answer.
I'm no genius with this stuff but I will at least take the time to learn what the stuff I'm doing to my phone is and how to undo it or fix it if needed. There are more and more people that don't our won't.

I figured with all the development there would be some way to get netflix on the touchpad...
Also android never really came to the touchpad like everyone said it would either. Has development on the touchpad died down?

Just wanted to let everybody know that I've tried the VALPHA3 of CM7 with Tiamat's 1.1.0 AOSP kernel and (aside from the known bugs) I've NEVER seen an Android phone run this great. 1 hour of medium-heavy use off the charger, OC'd to 1.6 GHz using SetCPU and the lagfree governor and auto-brightness on connected to WiFi, I'm only down 4% on the stock battery. No issues connecting to a WPA2 WiFi network and this thing is FAST! Benchmarks barely show how sweet this thing is running.

By the way, it seems like the benchmark scores are fairly low because I'm using a "less-than-ideal" 16GB Kingston class 10 card that only achieves class 4 write speeds. Also, anybody who knows anything about Android knows that benchmarks only show half of the story. Not even sure why I included the screenshot now. Had to be the excitement.
I haven't seen any issues with multi-touch.
Also [insert question about demoralizing comment here]...
Why's that? I mean, benchmarks are pretty useless anyways. Testing in real world applications is what matters. And CM7 is much more responsive than Sense apps in that respect.

I already said this..if you guys are expecting any kind of a stable ICS rom before the year's end then you're just setting yourself up to be disappointed. The source isn't gonna be released until middle of November. Then you have a month in half to code a working rom from 100% scratch?
Not to mention 2 major holidays to deal with in that time...no.
The CM7 alpha thread got closed because it was filled with morons going off topic or *****ing each other out. We may not even have nightlies for CM7 before the year's end... development on this particular phone is slow and boring. It is what it is tho..we'll get it eventually.
No 100% working ics until April or May. Im calling it.
Temari x Shikamaru
As an aside: Gingerbread was released in December (SDK was Dec 6th, I couldn't find an actual source date, but I didn't look to hard).
And we had "kang" builds working for the Evo4g by Christmas. I couldn't find when official nightlies began (it looks like mid-January) and the first RC release was in mid-February.
Hopefully this will give people a little perspective into dev times. Granted this is not a timeline that is set in stone. As of right now the 3D doesn't even have CM7 nightlies so it might (read: probably will) take longer.
Just have patience.

I thought that was why, but that is a awful reason. I remember the thread was locked or cleaned up at one point, but come on. Toast is a great dev and all, but I don't support that decision. The one thing I always complain about (and my peers) in work environments, is lack of communication. Im a dev too and I understand that asking for ETA isn't nice. I'm not asking for that at all. Just give me a status update like I dunno, once a month would be nice. I hope the CM team doesn't look at us like a typical dev/client relationship in the work force, where that relationship is non existent.
And yea I know they do it for free, they have real lives, stop complaining, etc. I'm not complaining....I'm asking for better/more frequent communication.
And its my OPINION. If you disagree, do so politely.

This. And even then people should expect to wait MONTHS for things like 4g support or to do without 3D features. At least thats what I remember with the OG Evo.
Also agree with issafram, its a shame the thread was closed instead of cleaned up and forced to stay on topic. I have only followed a handful of ROM threads so I can't speak for how widespread it is, but it seems the EV0 3D forums has been plagued with these problems compared to the EVO 4G forums. I can pontificate the reasons all day but I think the solution is to crack the whip until the offenders learn or leave.

The devs don't owe us anything and I know that 100%. Its just hard for a development forum to stay development related when there is basically no public development being made. I love teamwin and toastcfh and can't wait for another release but by the way things seem we wont see anything until nightlies which are probably another 2-3 weeks out. Once trwp 2.0 is released cm7 development should speed up I think. Just no telling when either will be released.

Sorry, rank78, but Issafram has it exactly right, here.
If you're going to open a thread, be it in the Dev Forum, in General, in Q&A, or in Themes, there needs to be one thing included in every one, and that's just:
"Common Courtesy".
It shouldn't matter at all how talented the Developer is, or how highly anticipated the ROM is:
If you're going to take the time to open a thread in the first place, the ONE responsibility you should take on is the responsibility of keeping a simple line of communication open to the users who decide to devote their time and interest to that thread.
Sure, you're more than welcome to state right up front "Don't ask for ETAs" and "Keep the thread on-topic!", but the OP has a responsibility then as well:
That's just to take a SMALL bit of time, (even if it's only once a WEEK) to let the users/subscribers know that at least you are 'still working on things', or 'at a roadblock' or 'on hold for now' or even that you're still alive, even.
Apparently, in the CM7 thread, that was too much for even TOAST or Shift to handle, and to insinuate that the closing of the thread was the fault of users going off-topic, (after not a single post in three weeks) , is absolutely asinine.
What kind of topic are users supposed to "stay on" when, by all accounts and measures, the developer has 'jumped ship' on the entire project?
Of course the users in that thread got sidetracked and began making off-topic posts.
Would you expect anything else?
Nope, the CM7 thread WASN'T closed due to the off-TOPIC habits of the users...
Rather, though:
The CM7 thread WAS closed due to the off-THREAD habits of the Developer and the "Maintainer".
Simple as that.
(Not just my two cents, because that's the absolute truth.)

Same here, one of those two is going to be my first tablet. I have no intention of keeping either stock though, so the dev community is going to make or break it for me. I've heard nothing but good things about the original Nook Color community so I'm leaning way more towards a Nook right now.
If the Nook Tablet is anything like a Nook Color, its going to be a modders playground.
the NC was by far the best android tablet on the market for the money. Just needed a bit of tweaks.
If BN took the NC and upgraded some Hardware, its going to be one sweet device.
WTH, where is my ICS port? It's been what.. 3 hours now.
Lazy developers...
(kidding, of course =)
after getting my hands on one today, it really is just new hardware in the same shell. the ui got a little bit of a makeover too but it's still pretty familiar stuff. overall it felt very snappy.
The B&N by our house has them in stock and on sale. I just picked one up. Never having the original Nook color to compare with, I can't comment on that but so far it's a nice little tablet. I really only picked it up for the eventual root and port action.
I'm curious about the K Fire as well, but the lack of SD card slot made me think that rooting, flashing and overall modding would be a pain. I've got 2 weeks before I change my mind and pick that one up instead. Either way, I'm excited!
I am not an Android development expert but....
I have seen that the ICS sourcecode can be built for the Pandaboard which has the same processor of the new Nook Tablet (TI OMAP4430).
Does this mean that the ICS ROM could run on the Nook Tablet as well? What am I missing here?
Thanks!

It's not just a CPU thing. Every hardware need his own drivers.
Surely soon we will have a full port of ICS for our NookTablets, but now we have still no ROOT, so... just be patient
CM9 will arrive maybe in 2 months, MIUI on middle Dec.
We need Autonooter first.
Seems like the KF has already been rooted.

well im going to buy a Nook Tablet, cuz SD Card Slot and double size Space and RAM is really making the difference between the KF and Nook Tablet. i just hope that enough Developers would see that the same way and buy Nook Tablet so we can get KickASS Custom ROMS and goodies

I didnt see it being released, but it looks like BN has good attitude towards rooting, as mentioned in other threads.
But yeah, please help us get this thing opened up, this would be an incredible tablet - powerful and small.
It makes me a tad sad to see the KF get rooted already and the NT has had little to no progress. I hope development picks up soon. It's kind of depressing to see Amazon stealing the thunder from the little guy.

Keep in mind that BN moved up the release date at the last minute.. not every store had them today and the BN.com website still said 11/18..
I'd be surprised if we don't get root before too long.
Yeah, I believe the KF is already officially on sale, while the only NT owners are some lucky preorder customers who managed to get the unit earlier than planned.
Remember, right now, technically the NT is still a "pre-launch" device.
My guess is kernel source will show up when the NT support pages go live (they don't exist yet.)
I was able to just walk in to a store and buy one yesterday without a pre-order.. but I suppose I was lucky.
Here's hoping for the kernel source soon.
Did anyone check that CM7 or CM9 have full multitouch functionality? The reason I am asking this is because tons of apps rely on more than 2-point limit that those morons at B&N put in the NT.
It seems to only have 2-point on cm7 currently.

I guess I need to dump this piece of crap they dare call Tablet.
My Samsung phone is 10 times better, were it not for screen size.
Does the Kindle Fire have the same restrictions B&N put in the NT?
If the hardware supports it (which the current thinking is yes), then it will require a custom kernel. This is on the to-do list, but not at the top.

Well... How much did you pay for your Samsung Phone? For $250, Nook Tablet has the processing power of a very high end phone, and it's wonderful screen quality can perhaps only be beaten by an OLED display. Comparing tablets like these to phones, I think phone manufacturers are ripping us off! While NT is not perfect, it still is very good value for money.
