I purchased an HTC View online and received it today. Has anyone had any luck registering one of these on Sprint without signing a contract? I tried at my local Sprint store and didn't have any luck. It's a "good" Sprint store too - one that understands customer service and usually bends over backwards to make their customers happy.
I'm currently a Sprint customer and would like to sign up for their $20/mo plan for times when wifi isn't available.
Apologies if this has already been discussed - I did some searching and couldn't find any useful information.
Thank you.
They still make you sign a two year contract. I couldn't get around it. However, if a newer device comes out on Sprint, you should be able to upgrade immediately, provided you didn't buy through Sprint initially and have to wait for their upgrade.
Yeah they make you sign a contract. They also offer a prepaid option but the monthly rate is 45 with 1.5gb of 3g/4g. They also have daily and weekly plans. Think its like 15 foe day and 30 for week. I forget. I'm running on the monthly right now just to test it out.... works good so far.

Sprint sucks! I went to the store because I saw the news flash on prepaid. Store said they have no prepaid. I called sprint and they said no and transerred me to Boost, they offered it (wrong). Disconnected twice, then I called local boost store, only boost handsets can join.
I gave up and while playing with it last night, I found the prepaid option on the activation screen. I selected the month (daily and weekly were options) for 49.99 and and used my cc on the screen and 4G works pretty good.
I bought my View from ebay without contract. I called Sprint and after some haggling got on the $19.99 plan with no contract. They did however charge me an activation fee of $36 which I called later about and had it waived.
Like it so far and use it when I dont want to burn my Evo 3d's battery when tethering.
Also I have an upgrade available on this new line that I might use for an upgraded phone. That would mean a new contract though on that View line.
I tried to use the "Free Day" romo code but it would not work.
I wonder if a bad esn is to blame
http://reviews.ebay.com/BAD-ESN-Carrier-wont-activate-the-phone-What-2-Do?ugid=10000000007584227
Always better to call rather than go into the store for something that is outside of official policy. We are tracked on everything we do so unless it's an honest mistake the store usually won't do something like that.
Just call care and make a reasoned argument.. Be patient and calm and keep hanging up and calling back later till you get someone who will do it.
Otherwise you should be able to do the month to month option for 50... But I'm sure you can eventually get someone to do the 19.99 1gb plan with no contract. I haven't looked into how to do it as a customer so I will get back to you when I go back to work. Merry Christmas!
Edit: forgot to mention, if you get calls or texts rating the service, rate them as perfect and that they fixed your issue on the first call even if they can't. Not fair to penalize them for something they aren't supposed to do. Unless they are jerks, lol.

No one in store or in customer service on the phone knows about the pay as you go data plan.
I could only activate mine using the $49.99 option I accidently left remeber my credit card check and got a message about how sprint will automatically renew for me thanks
tried to find a place in Sprint Zone to change it no luck. Tried to create an online account to manage it nope. Looks like I am canceling my credit card in a month
I also bought an Evo View from ebay. Today I went to Sprint and bought an iphone4S. Then I came home and moved my service over to the Evo View. (This won't work online- you have to use Sprint Zone on the tablet). Now I've got my Evo on a two year plan for $20/month and an iPhone I can sell.

I did this same exact thing. Worked great! The Sprint rep seemed a little confused at first when she asked me "what kind of a device are you transferring you iPhone 4S' service to?" Once I told her it was an HTC Evo View tablet, she witched it right over to a tablet plan.
I sold the iPhone on ebay for $530 which payed for the phone and the tablet.
Just make sure to tell the rep at the store not to open the iPhone! That way you can sell it sealed.
I'm trying to convince sprint to let me activate this thing without contract. So far I've talked to 3 or 4 different folks and nobody seems to want to budge. There's no way I'm signing a 2 year contract on this thing.. Anyone else had any luck?
Why bother lol. Just tether the flyer by usb cable or wifi hotspot from your smartphone. Works great.

I have an iphone on at&t so tethering, meh probably not worth the effort.. this is the first android device that really stuck with me and I love it so I'd love to have data on the go.. Now to get rid of the xoom (I hate that thing sooo much)
After haggling with some reps I managed to get the 1gb plan month to month. Took some time but it's active with no contract. I am however going to cancel the service since I hardly use it to justify the fee.
This was back in mid December.

I just activated a Samsung Galaxy Tab with Sprint, and when they said there would be a contract, I told them I wasn't interested. The guy persisted, so I said "thanks anyway, but I'll pass." He then said he'd check with his supervisor, and after a couple minutes came back with the same story. I told him once again I wasn't interested in a 2 year contract and that I'd just forget about it. He said he'd try "one last time" with his supervisor or account services. At that point I knew I was in, and sure enough he came back on with an account services rep who explained that if I wanted to cancel I'd have to call and let them know, to not just abandon the service. No problem. So it is possible, you just have to be persistent and if at first you don't succeed, try again with another rep on another day.
I thought you couldn't upgrade an Airwave but long story short I went to sprint to buy another phone and they wouldn't sell me one off contract due to store policy. But he said my Airwave had an upgrade and if I order the phone he would upgrade it without me changing phone numbers.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
is it a corprate store because if so that doesnt sound right they get payed commision for selling contracts and he might have been trying to swindle you
You can't upgrade an airave line. Since they have to give you a phone number to give you the device, yes it does show up on your account as another line. However, any rep with 1/10th of a percent of a brain will realize that it's an airave line, and thus cannot be used to upgrade a phone.
If they do upgrade your airave line, sprint will find out about it, and charge you the full amount of the phone.
No it wasnt corporate store. I ordered the phone said it would be there in about 3 days. He said they don't do it often but sometimes there are exceptions.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
This has been done many times before and there are threads about how to do it. Last I knew of, Sprint was buckling down and closing this loophole. But evidently it can still be done.
On a lot of accounts it shows a message that we can't upgrade airrave lines, but on others they haven't posted the note yet, my manager did one the other day
I just tried to do it at bestbuy.com and it will let me....but now idk, I'm having second thoughts since I'm not digging it that Sprint could catch on and bill me full retail when my regular line is eligible on June 1
Sent from my 3VO
I got an airrave couple months ago and notcied on my account that I could upgrade the line right away. This is on top of my current line with the evo3d having an upgrade credit right too. I tried to upgrade that Airrave line for a Nexus S but the store didn't have any in
Can someone who has done this confirm Sprint never charged full price later on? Additionally, it seems lime doing this makes you sign up for a data plan for that 'line'

I can confirm that as a customer there are no negative repercussions except the loss of any mail in rebates. They are systematically flagging accounts to warn reps not to do it, and threaten reps about doing it. But the risk is all on the reps side.
At what store would doing this upgrade be most successful at? Best buy or sprint store?

I've always just signed up for the data plan in store (Radio Shack) and then later taken it off when I did the ESN swap back to the Airwave.
What did you have to say to sprint to take the data plan off? I guess I'm basically looking for a step by step... Thanks bro

I am thinking about coming to Verizon. I am on Sprint now with 2 lines with data on both. Because of a recent billing change I can get out of my contract until Saturday, March 10th. Sprint has went downhill in my area over the past year or so, but their prices are still good. I am looking to get a discount of some sort to help deal with the price difference. I will be getting 2 smartphones with data (likely used month to month at first until newer phones come out). I work for a small electrical contractor in a small town so I won't be eligible for a employee discount. Is there any tricks I can use to get a discount? Maybe somebody else's work email or something like that? If anybody knows anything please post or PM me with details/ link to thread/ anything. Thanks
I don't plan on signing a contract immediately because I would like to wait on HTC's next big phone. I have had the Evo3d since launch day and am a smartphone junky, so I don't think I could handle such similar phones for almost 3 consecutive years with no upgrade. I would like to go ahead and sign a contract now, use a used phone in the meantime and have an upgrade waiting on me when I get ready to use it, but the customer sales rep for Verizon said that wasnt possible. If anybody has any input, info, or advice please help me out. I have to swap carriers and get my 2 numbers ported before the end of the day Saturday, or I'm stuck with Sprint for another 14-16 months...That would be AWEFUL!
Thanks!
Can't you terminate your contract with sprint, but just stay on month to month without the contract?
getting discounts here isnt as easy as it was on sprint. i came from sprint, all you needed was an email and you were set. here they want proof of employment or if they use email, they send confirmation to that email from what ive seen. not to your own email. but those are few companies that do that so its harder. lol

No.. What they do is waive the ETFs AFTER you've ported out in a case like this.
Trust me.. they more than pushed me out last month with their attitude about the whole thing.
Sprint did indeed go downhill and while it is cheaper and truly unlimited.. you AREN'T getting what you're paying for anymore. VZWs 3G speeds blow away sprints and let's not even talk about 4G because it's night and day too. Sprint isn't even going to expand their current 4G network (wimax) because of the soured relationship with Clear. Oh and by the way... my 4G works just as fast indoors as it does outdoors. After 9 years with sprint that contract change was the final straw.
Make sure you get in during the double data deal because i'm not sure i would be comfy with a 2GB monthly cap.

unfortunately not. The guy I talked to said I have to be off the network completely by March 10th or I am stuck for the remainder of my contact. I have read that a few were allowed to go month to month and many that had 30 days after they called, but the rep told me it is 30 days from the February billing cycle. I just found out about this today and called right after work. So I have basically 3 days to have my numbers ported over to Verizon or I am out of luck.
Anybody have an account with no discount for 2 lines, 700 minutes, unlimited text, and 2gb(4gb under promotion) on both? If so what does it end up being after all taxes, surcharges, etc? I pay $167.XX on Sprint right now, and really hope Verizon can keep it under $200.
What if you port to att or verizon off contract? Then just port the number back to sprint off contract.

Somehow I think that would be a nightmare-ish idea.. especially if the OP needs his line for work.
If you need to port that quick you'll also need to do an in-store purchase. I think $167 for the package you stated is probably close to doable. You'll also get much more friendly/helpful customer service with verizon. Playing devil's advocate you should also be aware that verizon's mobile to mobile only includes other VZW customers unlike sprints any mobile to mobile.

That sound very tempting to try, but just sounds risky. I know I have read somewhere that if you cancel your contract on Sprint and come back within 30 days that you basically are just on your same old contract again. I maybe wrong, or whoever said it may have been wrong, I don't remember where I read it. But if someone has experience doing something like this I would love to here about it. It would at least get me through until HTC releases a quad core, or s4 based phone.

The on network mobile to mobile is now problem, because 90% of the people around here have Verizon anyway. The package I put together online was about $173 (before taxes and surcharges) , but I think I had insurance for 2 rezounds for that price.

I have to disagree. My Evo3d is very similar to my coworker's rezound . It has basically the same processor only .3ghz slower, same amount or RAM, same screen size, QHD screen vs 720p (the difference is honestly not noticeable when held side by side) and it came out about 4 months before. Don't get me wrong I really like the Rezound, but I feel it hardly has much better specs, slightly better specs at most.
That's what originally drew me to Sprint, they get the hottest phones first, and low monthly costs. But their service has let me down recently.
Please don't take offense to this post, I mean no disrespect
Well if it's close.. I would say to you exactly what I told my wife when I dropped Sprint. Sprint has done NOTHING to keep my account. They have not done anything with their local infrastructure. They never respond to trouble tickets. Their status quo really sucked bad.
Verizon on the other hand, has done extensive network upgrades and is very responsive to any problem you have.
Seen so many *****es about Sprint I thought I'd share.
Only company with unlimited data.
Only company with SERO (I have original SERO and SERO Premium).
Even without SERO my daughter and my sister both switched from Verizon and got very close to SERO Premium prices.
So I have one phone on SERO original that is qualified for upgrade.
And by wobbly EVO 3D (due to VM leak, at no fault of Sprints, just mine) that is not qualified for upgrade for some time on SERO Premium.
So I used the chat to ask if I could use Touch PRO 2 upgrade for an EVO 4G LTE to replace the EVO 3D.
She said yes. But I lose the return policy and any mail in rebate.
Turns out it's all instant Rebate.
Then I asked if I upgrade it on the Touch PRO 2 (online) will it force me to upgrade it's plan.
She said no.
I said I was worried it might change it.
And she came back and asked me if it was on SERO.
She knew exactly what I was worried about. I had not given them any account info.
It only changes the plan when you activate. And I will activate it on my EVO 3D line.
She also said if I did it in a store (I think because it's SERO) it would of upgraded the plan.
I forgot to save discussion. But they emailed it to me !!!
I did the online upgrade and it stated exactly what she said that the plan would not upgrade unless activated on that line. Very clearly layed.
It clearly showed no plan change.
Excellent service !!!
Not the fasted network. But good enough for my needs and doesn't break the bank.
And usually offers great phones.
A lot of times you here about the shortcomings of Sprint so its good to hear the opposite side of the coin sometimes. Glad to hear everything worked out for ya.

So Sprint did what should be expected and that is commendable? Lol
Look at it this way, if it was T-Mobile, you would have just had to pop in the SIM card. No call (or chat), no activation, no concern for plan changes.
Not saying T-Mobile is great, just saying Sprint shouldn't be commended for doing the bare minimum.
You had a line due for an upgrade, they let you upgrade it, and use the phone on another line. Every carrier out there will do this, and most of them don't require any contact with their CS to make sure it's actually possible.

I truly miss this about gsm phones. Over the years I've collected so many gsm phones that friends usually come to me when they lose their phone, cuz I'd give them one to borrow. Just pop in a sim and it's good to go. This is my first cdma phone. God forbid I lose it, esp. at a time when I need to use a phone really bad or something.

Yeah, too bad they no longer offer the SERO plans and have so many restrictions on them now. So you have an EVO on a SERO Premium plan, not a plain vanilla SERO, right?
mcguireslaw dot com/2011/01/18/sero-premium-and-premium-data/
I guess that answers the question.
I've thought about doing this. My wife's account is eligible for an upgrade. She doesn't want to upgrade because she wants a phone with a physical keyboard (she has the Epic 4G).
Mine is not eligible, as I bought my 3D when it came out. Can I use my wife's upgrade to get the 4G LTE, and then activate the 4G LTE on my line? I mean, I assumed I could do that, and it sounds like you are saying it's possible, but I wasn't sure. Do I need to give Sprint some special instruction not to activate the phone when I order it? Do they automatically activate it when you buy it (before it gets to you?).
Also, I know it will reset the upgrade period for my wife's account, but it won't for my account, correct?
I don't see another phone with a physical keyboard on the horizon, so I don't feel so bad in taking my wife's upgrade, heh.

No special instructions needed you can do it yourself online.

saying u like sprint because of sero is absolutely useless to the vast majority of sprint subscribers because its not available - not to mention, the vast majority doesn't have the plan.
upgrades on a yearly basis are over with, even for those with huge monthly bills.
network sucks - whats the point of unlimited data when you can't use it?
anyways, glad you like em. I don't. Very unhappy and leaving for verizon soon as a decent quad core with a large screen drops over there.

Enjoy your Verizon bills.
Data works fine for me with Sprint, not blazing but good enough, way better than any GSM provider. Calls do too. Verizon is better but not worth the price. Nor do I like how Verizon locks out features that Sprint phones provide.
A co-worker of mine has Verizon and he pays a fortune for his plan. His phone never ran any faster or more reliable than mine.
I have Verizon FIOS and every chance they get they try to rip me off. Oops sorry for the double billing, oops sorry we forgot to cancel that feature. I hate them.
I was excited because Sprint gave me a brand new $400.00 phone for $35 with no insurance and it was completely my fault.
They often do early upgrades where you don't have to wait 2 full years. And in this case they let me mix my upgrade options.
The only reason I mentioned SERO was because I was impressed the Sprint rep knew about it, why I was concerned I might lose it if I mixed and matched my upgrade options and that their flexibilty might be limited on a SERO plan. It was not the reason why I started this thread. SERO is just icing on the cake. And I'd have Sprint even if I didn't have SERO.

For most people your post will be non applicable.
1: Sprint has the slowest data of all the carriers in most areas (according to several independent national tests). If it's faster in your area, just know that you are a rare case and it will be different if you travel to almost any other area. My Sprint 3G is actually slower than dial up (and slower than T-Mobile's throttled data).
2: Sprint is basically the same price as Verizon or AT&T these days. It might be a few bucks cheaper, but nothing significant.
3: T-Mobile is cheaper than Sprint.
4: Sprint's early upgrade program is dead. I know they used to do this in the past, but they killed that program. Now it's 2 years to upgrade, or pay the etf and then you can upgrade early.

I started a thread in the OG EVO forum before this forum existed, thought I would pass this along to the XDA community.
I have used Wirefly before, I was very happy with them, so they will continue to get my business.

Will wirefly bill your sprint account or do you have to pay cash?

You pay upfront. Just like other pre-orders.
When does it say you should receive your phone?

Just a friendly warning, the sale seems to be linked to specific zip codes. The link in the OP is setup for Garfield NJ, 07026 and the one I actually used was for Spring TX. If I updated the zip to my real zip code, the sale price is $149. Their system will also AUTOMATICALLY make your City, State, zip that of which the link takes you to.
Now I placed my order, realized the address issue and will contacted them tomorrow to modify my address. Not sure if that will effect the price I pay BUT one thing is for sure, its not going to cost me $217 either way.
I'll update here after I get the address corrected and confirm my price after. I figure I'll give it a day in their system to get to stick and then update the address.
I ordered yesterday for $149.99

It should be noted that there is a $37 activation fee from Sprint.
I changed the zipcode to mine (here in chicago) and it kept the $119.99 price. And yes, there is a $36 activation fee, but this is still cheaper than $150 if you figure in the $10 google wallet credit...
$119.99
$36
-$10
-----------
$145.99
Not bad at all. Not the $10 I paid for my evo a few days before christmas (price match + rebate), but flipping that, I should net under $50 or less for the whole thing.
EVO for $99.99 if you have Bank of America
Log into your bofa account and click on the add it up link. click on cell phone deals and bofa will credit your account $50 if you buy using their link. I tried getting the $119.99-$50 add it up, but it won't work.
One or the other.
By the way, to get the $119.99 deal, do a google search for "wirefly friends and family" and click on the first non-ad link.
So to summarize, $119.99 if you don't have bofa
or
$99.99 if you have bofa using the add it up link.

I wouldn't see why they would, if you are worried activate it on the line you used to upgrade, then switch the phone over to the line you want it on.

How will they know? You don't activate through them. You buy from them, tell them it's for the upgradable line, then when you get it, you activate through Sprint and have them so the switch. Wirefly is out of the picture once you have the device.

Why is there an activation charge?
How is this any different than buying a phone off of Craigslist and getting it activated?
Edit:
Does Sprint charge $37 activation even if you get it from them anyway?
(If so, then this isn't an issue. Gotta pay it either way, right?)

Because you need to "activate" it on the carrier and it's no different, you would be paying the same charge no matter where you get the phone. Now, the activation fee did double but that puts Sprint in line with the other carrier's activation/upgrade fees and adds more cash to the "fix the network" pot.
*Activation is $36

I had this same intention. I called Wirefly and they do NOT let you use another line's upgrade for your own (idk why thats what he said). You would have to swap the upgradeable line with yours like others have said. Part of the reason is because their policy is to activate it themselves (I asked them if they could hold off on the activation, the guy said no) so its running by the time it gets in your hands

Just wanted to check back in and confirm that I did call and update the address for shipping and everything is right on track, price is set at $119.
Now just hoping we do get ours before the 18th but if not, so what, this was a great deal.

This doesn't entirely make sense. If you're upgrading, that would mean your existing device stops functioning when they activate the new one. This is obviously not acceptable. I'm quite confident you actually have to call in and activate it once you receive the device. THEN your old device stops functioning. Now if you're buying a new line of service then it may arrive activated (though past purchases from amazon for tmobile did require activation AFTER receipt of device).
ymmv.
Wirefly has a ad on its front Page saying free activation wheb adding a line or doing a new activation.
Food for thought to make it a even better deal...
