[Q] SD card destroyed, go back to stock? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, Im running I think EC01 miui 1.9.2, and I had it like this for quite some time now and I loved the rom it was great, but until recently my phone kept giving me blank sd card notification, so I formatted it a few times every time it gave me it, but about 2 days ago after the last format it completely ate my card and now it just keeps giving me damaged card nofication. It wont format anymore, and I cant format in recovery either, I was wondering if I should go back to stock and see if that works or is my sd completely fried. Would going back to stock fix this or should i just get a new card? also should I stay with ec01 for miui?

you can go back to stock and try the sd card, but more than likely you will need to buy a new one for mtd roms...

Hey thanks for the reply, would you happen to know what best stock odin to go back to? I believe there are quite a bit I can go back to correct? Or will it update to the latest no matter which I go to? sorry about all the questions hahah..

DL01 is the bone stock one that you can OTA back up to current if you want. The ED05 odin package floating around works too, the only difference between it an OTA is it won't reflash recovery every boot. If you go all the way back to DL01 you'll still need to update the modem to use any current roms.
Going back to stock isn't going to make your SD card work though. Odds are extremely high your SD card is dead.

dl09 worked for best for me to do a clean install...then you can odin or flash back to whatever. I would pass on ota, that takes way too long imo.

A few little issues, how to get back to stock?

I have been running froyo roms for awhile now, and over time my sd cards stopped showing up when I mounted them, and clockwork flashes have been very hit or miss. I assume im going to have to use odin to get back to stock, does that wipe your sd?
Thanks
Shouldn't wipe your SD cards.
I should rephrase that and say when I used Odin a while back it did not touch the data on my SD cards.

You don't flash a ROM. You'll have to use Odin as you mentioned.
Here's a tutorial on how to use Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810130
A lot of useful things are located in the bible: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771111
It depends which road you want to go back to (quoted from bible). All of these will bring you back to stock. But as a legitimate stock (meaning STOCK as in what non-rooted users on Vibrant have), it would be JI6 which is based on Android 2.1.

getting back to stock is covered very well here:

[Q] Cannot return to stock firmware.

I rooted my Vibrant yesterday, first timer, and everything went smoothly. I used the Classic way, had no problems. I got ROM Manager, to flash ROMs of course (I've gotten pretty impatient with Samsung and my Froyo) and I decided to partition the SD because I thought it would be a good idea. I did not know that it would partition the INTERNAL SD and brick my phone. After countless hours of Odin, rereading the instructions on this thread, trying to get it back to stock, I managed to get it running Eugene's Unofficial TMO Froyo Image. I am able to boot [Froyo] totally fine, but then when I try to revert back to build JFD or J16, I get the same black screen with only the capacative buttons on. My question is, is there any other possible way to fix this? I've tried almost every single method I've come across, read so many threads, and I've been unable to get back to stock. I've even created an elaborate scheme to walk into T-Mo to tell them I dropped my phone (playing the technologically disabled customer, of course) and asking for a replacement. I apologize for so much text, but I felt that explaining myself might work. Ideas would be much appreciated
With Odin -
Use this 512.pit
and this JI6.tar
These will take you to bone stock 2.1.
Thanks Drew, but I've tried that countless times and all I end up with is a black screen and lit up capacitive buttons. I want to go back to stock because for some reason, Eugene's version of Froyo doesn't allow me to install apps because the supposed, "internal memory" is full. Plus, going back to stock will allow me to redo everything from the beginning.
make sure you flash a 2.1 compatible kernel 1st before downgrading from 2.2 to 2.1..
Try flashing "Eugene's Froyo that doesn't brick" on odin then flash JFD/JI6 whichever you wanna go back to..
WARNING: Flashing Froyo that doesnt brick will wipe internal SD..
Good luck..
$0.02, why not just flash the rom you want over the stock 2.2?
just factory reset, wipe partitions, wipe dalvik cache, fix permissions ALL in CWM
Then flash ROM of choice.. Clean flash.
Can you link that file for me please?
Also, I just factory reset, and I'm still unable to getapps from the market ,so flashing from 2.2 would be impossible. For app space, it says I have 0.00 B
Had same issue, didn't want to go back to stock though . Look for a post with mbr check sum error, quick walk through
Really? I looked it up, but i don't remember getting that error.message.

[Q] I want to COMPLETELY WIPE my Vibrant, How??

I want to completely wipe EVERYTHING FROM MY VIBRANT...
I installed cm7 and i removed it because the in-call volume from my headset was REALLY LOW...
i did get it back to stock but... it wouldnt work with samsung kies program so i used odin and i think it was still Rooted, because superuser was still installed and my in-call volume is still low, and it didnt start with the factory setup, just went str8 to the homescreen as if i just turned off the phone and thats it.
How can i completely wipe EVERYTHING to the first day i got it? or to froyo?
like remove EVERY SINGLE TRACE OF ANYTHING CUSTOM, anything ROMS, anything HACKS and get it back to beeing un-rooted? thanks
ya, me too...i just worded my question a lot longer ("out of my league" thread). with 151 views between our threads and not one reply, i think we might be irritating everyone in here by not wanting to be a part of the "rooted club" anymore.
thats easy!!! first u odin back to stock!!! then wipe both the internal sd card and ur sd card and there u have it ur back to day one. And if u dont know how to odin back to stock then read the tut on it in the forum
Go back to stock using this.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
Then go into settings, SD and phone storage and format your internal sd card. That will erase everything on your phone.

The AIO toolbox should do exactly what you are looking for. After you do the Flash to Stock option, stop there. I've done this many times and I'm pretty sure it wasn't rooted.
To perform a master clear using ODIN, after flashing the stock firmware back onto the device, leave the phone plugged into the computer and keep ODIN open. Just click Master Clear in ODIN. !This will wipe everything off of the built-in storage (besides the stock ROM and stock apps)!

it is just that CM is a really bad idea for a first time rooter...
way to custom and non standard..
you would love a rom by team whiskey...smoking fast.. very pretty, but so close to standard... you don' t have to customize anyting.. no dis' to CM folks.. but.. CM and MIUI are not for noobs...
99% of people who mess up a phone or want to go back to stock... loaded a CM rom as their first non-stock rom
yeah i know, i mean the only problem is i cant really hear others that well. if there is a way to fix that then im good
Yea I can't hear others either unless I use loud speaker....you think it might be due to the box tape I put over it aswell as over the rest of the screen to hold all the broken glass in place? Lol
Getting back to stock, fine. Follow the instructions others have given, but I wouldn't worry about rooting. Having your phone rooted doesn't harm anything, and in fact does nothing unless you decide to perform an action that only a rooted user can, like backup your apps with Titanium backup or install a ROM.

Need help think I bricked my GNote

Okay so I was updating my i717 from UCLF5 team perfection to UCLF6 Collective AoCP ROM and think I bricked my phone. T_T
I forgot that I had encrypted both the phone and external SD Card. When I went into CWM Touch 5.8.3.4 I hung on the formatting /cache I then forced reboot back into CWM and went through a manually formatted stuff and wiped the caches. I then went to install the zip ROM and it said read-only bad.. I didn't know what to do so I tried to factory wipe again and no luck. So I then thought well Odin could work, but I couldn't download the hotfile without hotfile host bugging out with too many downloads.. So I final find a default stock official ROM that is a tar that Odin v1.85 can use, but it is taking forever and I don't know if it will complete, it is currently stuck at "SetupConnection.."
I can get the phone into CWM Touch 5.8.3.4 and can get into download mode, but cannot do ****. The external SD card does still have my titan backup of all system apps all user data and all user apps on it. I know the password for the encrypted SD card. However I cannot do anything because it keeps say read-only....
I also for some reason probably me not being patient enough 3 flash counters on the phone. Now if I take the phone back to ATT to exchange or somehow get it un-bricked will I be able to return the flash counter to 0 before turning the phone in...or will I have to cross my fingers and hope that they don't see it lol?
Does anybody know the best way to go about fixing this phone? I don't really know how to use Odin well and since CWM seems to be hanging on reformatting /cache it won't ever finish getting the phone to factory by itself. I have also tried to fix the permissions but doesn't work. Also tried to mount into USB while plugged in and it didn't want to do that either.
I did notice that a couple times it did boot into the UCLF5 ROM that was previously on the phone but it was back to stock ICS theme with no apps but settings and couldn't use the USB mass storage it just kept cycling itself and not connecting.
Okay so I did infact get it on the third try to flash 2.3.6 android factory default back onto the phone and in the process lost CWM recovery and when I went back into the market place to reinstall ROM manager after I put the ROM I want onto the internal it won't connect to Google Play even after getting onto wifi...weird and even said there wasn't an update after trying to update through att to ICS stock...
Your not still rooted right? An official update won't install if you are

>ok so you got up with GB correct?
>Why not just put CWM back on the touch CWM is very simple to use odin one file in the pda slot and click then put the ROM you wanted to install in your OP. Links are in my signature
>then you can put the AOCP, that you said originally
BTW if you are trying to put the Off ICS use kies while putting your phone in download mode, not sure what you are doing with/thru ATT
There are several thread around for this method.

accidental captivate flash

this is what i get for oding late at night but i managed to do something very very stupid I odined my phone with a one click package for my captivate
I've been able to get the phone back in mostly working order now though.. but i feel in my gut something still may not be right.
here is where i got the package
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
This below is what version i accidently installed.
I897UCKI2 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread
With Bootloaders - Link to thread - Second Post [With CWM Injected Kernel from Boog]
so after i made this mistake.. (noticed my phone had a at&t bootscreen an wouldn't load) I went forth an flashed stock firmware avail for aiotools for the vibrant an then installed the stock froyo bootloader
I'm hoping everything is right in its place well except once i get cm9 flashed it boots up an shows a EU error so i freak yank the battery an odin this phone back into the stoneage an well... surprisingly.... my internal memory is 100% there O.O
anyways current issue is not being able to get cm7 to install though i'm probably missing something due to being tired anyways..
help sugestions banter calling me a noob I just want to make sure i did possibly everything to fix this mistake.

Well, when you say you are not able to get CM7 to install, what exactly is it doing?
Are you getting thrown into a bootloop (caused by CWR mismatch and pretty common)? If so, pull battery and boot into recovery and re-flash CM7 over itself again. No wipe. Then reboot.
You may have to flash a different kernel, like glitch or something like that. But try the above first. Should work for you. Does it still say ATT when you boot up?
Lucky for you, everything is good, but if you want to flash a GB or higher ROM, i would suggest you flash the bootloaders in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990
After that just flash CM9, and you *should* be good, if not, try flashing it again with wiping data, cache, and dalvik cache. I guarantee that will work.
I ended up having to format both SD cards an retrying install custom rom via aio tool an with luck was able to get cm7 installed then cm10 an i dno't have the ime error everyone else seams to have . I did before this flash the gb bootloader over this cause it was the only thing that managed to remove the at&t splash screen before the kernal.
Lesson I learned....
remember that the vibrant you use aio tool not a premade pack >.<
an ya i do own both phones so this does complicate things now an then <,<
I also have both devices. Set up two different folders on your pc, one marked i897 and the other t959. I also add i897 or t959 to any files that could possibly get mixed up in Odin.
Its peanut butter jelly(bean) time...
