Hi. I would like to ask how can I make my phone's stock recovery backup (just in case I will need it later for whatever reason) prior to flash custom?
Maybe there is already post about this and it would be kind if someone could redirect me there. Somehow I didn't manage to find any thread about such a subject. Thanks.

i dont think stock recovery can be backed up. But you can flash stock recovery later at any point from custom recovery as zip file made by ciaox http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065197
or you can flash by lgmdp also.

I've been using AmonRA recovery since I got the Optimus in December and I am comfortable with it. I've tried out Miks port of CM7 and while it's great, i sorely miss the battery performance I was getting on Froyo with Void and running 824mhz stable without any problems. That and bluetooth is sorely missed. I want to give OpenOptimus a shot, but I am extremely weary of trying to install Clockwork Mod again, because the one time I attempted it I ended up bricking my phone. Thankfully, the guy at the Tmo kiosk in the mall just gave me a new one no questions asked. I wouldn't be so hesitant to install CWM on my phone if I could install the img just like I did with AmonRA instead of trusting Rom manager to do it for me.
I don't suggest you to flash recovery via ROM manager. IMHO ClockworkMod is better, has much more options. If you'll flash the 3.1.0.0 version using my flashable zips you won't brick anything. And remember to give openOptimus a shot, you won't regret it

I'm not sure I understand correctly. I thought that clockworkmod was the recovery that is installed by Rom Manager. All of the instructions for installing CWM simply say to install Rom Manager. Ultimately, I do aim to install OpenOptimus but I need to switch from running AmonRA recovery to CWM recovery. And what exactly do you mean by flashable zip? I installed AmonRA using the ADB and an .img file. it there is a thread anywhere here that clearly details the process to install CWM recovery, please point me to it.

Do you people ever use search?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065197 - download and flash ZIP from recovery. Done.
Sorry about that. I didn't realize that you could actually flash a recovery from within the recovery. I just switched to CWM and flashed OpenOptimus. Waiting for first boot as I'm typing this.

yes a stated above u can just enter into recovery and flash any recovery u want from the link pointed out above and its safe ,since u already have recovery installed u dont need to flash recovery via rom manager and just remember that any backup taken from any recovery would be restored using the same recovery. To clear all doubts the problem has been solved and installing recovery from rom manger works flawlessly now. Note:Its advisable to use rommanager for ppl not having recovery installed just download the latest rom mager and flash choosig ur phone type.
slightly off topic, but does anyone know where I can get the T-Mobile branded P509 kdz stock firmware just in case I end up needing to roll back to stock? I can't seem to find it anywhere, the_ERROR's thread on howto is closed and the links don't work anymore.

This does not work, or... ?

nope its not safe at all using rom manager ~
I flashed CWM and my friend died a few days later.
So no it's not safe.
For me there are no problems with clockworkmod and RomManager. Flashed cwm via RomManager and everything is fine here.

it not about using rom manger for flashing rom ,it just to get the cwm recovery and then going into recovery and using it from there.
Many had problems flashing rom from clockwork so that not advisable but installing cwm is fine 100% sure
M happy with CWM
Don't use tricks like ROM Manager... It's just matter of learning to use a recovery, not that difficult.. just IMHO
You just need to use ROM manager Once to get recovery. After that you can delete the program and enjoy the CWM recovery.
I have been there, I have done it, You do want it
CWM works beautifully without problems..
I use rom manager just to reboot to recovery, as i am too lazy to use the 3 button combo to goto recovery.
Flashed ROMs and zips with CWM. 100 % safe untill now..
The new updared Rom Manager has solved that issue.

How much I've learned in just a month!
I can't believe I had to ask that question. I know now that there are numerous ways to flash recoveries. My personal preference is to do it manually using the adb.

See this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15186637&postcount=337
No, it is not 100% fine, in fact it lacks any sanity checks whatsoever.
Just flash CWM through your current recovery and you'll be fine. It's by far the safest method. If you flash through ROM Manager and after reboot you get stuck in fastboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015332 ... happened to me, unbricked it with some slight changes to the tutorial. Nothing important.
PS: If you don't use Rom Manager you can always do a $su then #reboot recovery in a terminal (Downloadable from market) to reboot directly to recovery.
Hey is there an odin flashable version of a cm7 rom?
Nope. Don't see any.
why do you need odin flashable?
if you want odin flash stock rom and flash zip update..
coz i could not flash it through cwm even after followin everythin written correctly{tried different modems too}.and the only roms which work are the stock roms and MUSH69ROM i found which i could flash through odin
you can specify what type of errors you get while flashing roms through cwm so anyone can help you out for that
It goes uptil the touch android guy to continue screen and then switches off.On rebooting it does the same thing.Same thing happens to gingercruzt and MY-UI2
Still not able to flash a custom Rom.if i flash someone else's backup of a cm7 ,myui2 or gingercruzt rom through cwm do you think it will work and if yes can someone please upload a backup id be very grateful

Tried factory reset before flashing?
Yes did everything mentioned and still didn't work . that's why i was wondering if restoring someone else's backup would work

Try with another sd card.
tried it still no luck.Dont know what else can i do.At the moment restoring someone elses backup seems like my only hope (if it works). So can someone please upload a cwm backup if there are no other solutions.Thanx
Today I got my S2 replaced as there was a lit pixel, the stock rom on it currently isn't actually listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
It's XWKI5
How do I got about extracting the rom in a way that will contribute to that thread? Won't touch it until I can safely get the rom off and saved for the thread
EDIT: And to add to this, if I do extract the rom would it be wise to update the rom first via kies or just leave it as factory and supply it?
Anyone got any ideas? Not wanting to bump but can't use until I get it extracted >_>
Odin flash Clockworkmod recovery then make a nandroid backup of it to get the boot.img and system.img

Flashing CWM via Odin will overwrite "boot.img" with the CWM kernel
But for the system it'll work, yeah
I have done the backup, who would be best to sent it to? Not sure how it would need to be prepared for contribution. Does the backup include kernal etc? If so how would I go about taking the kernal from it and flashing it on with miui?
Yes i'm new, but am loving it
Hi,
i've just installed the Resurrection remix rom on my phone but unfortunately the banking app that I use a lot doesnt work with it for some reason. How do I go about restoring my phone to the stock ICS and kernel... I do still want to keep root access, though.
This is the kernel I originally flashed it with
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip
all help will be greatly appreciated
I should add that I tried to restore from the back up that I made in clockwork recovery but the app cant find it so I'm thinking the back up didnt work properly!
Anyone?

Using cwm wipe, if possible, format system partition, after that flash using Odin.
Learn how to use Odin, get file from sammobile, or check fus

you should find everything you need to know in this thread

Did you make a nandroid backup in CWM? If yes, just boot to recover, do a full wipe and do a restore.
If not, go to receovery, do a full wipe, turn off phone, flash the firmware you want thru odin. Let it boot. Power off again, go into download mode, flash a rooted kernel, let it boot and then flash the original kernel with CWMManager from within the rom.
Thanks guys... all sorted
Hi
I was wandering if somebody could help me? I tried to flash a liberium rom and also flashed TWRP recovery. Did a backup and tried to boot my phone and it wont boot? It wont go into recovery mode also. It does however go into Download mode.
Also, I have a nandroid backup on my pc but dont know how to restore it via Odin? Dont want to do anything further as am fearful that it might make things worse!
If somebody could guide me how to get this working please? I would be very grateful. Phone is S3 I9300 (International version)
Many thanks

Don't blame on TWRP, you might be doing something wrong.
1. Flash recovery via Odin, TWRP or Phliz touch.
2. Enter recovery to restore your backup, both TWRP and Phliz will work for TWRP format backup, or reflash the ROM /Kernel or whatever you flashed, better do a redownload, file may be corrupted.
3. If you still unable to enter recovery, flash stock firmware via Odin and use Titanium backup to extract / restore your data from recovery's backup.
