Internal SD card - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to change the internal card of the phone to increase storage space? Maybe use a class 10 to try and speed up read / write?

if you are talking about the removable sd card, Yes you can replace that with a class 10 sd card
If you are talking about internal storage, there is no way of actually upgrading that (expect if you use data2ext on your rom/sd card)
I see you posted this using a Dell Streak and just to clarify this is the forum for HTC Legend

Been a while since I checked this topic. I did post with my Streak, but for a friend who has a Legend. I only asked because I replaced my internal SD card, with a little surgery, and did notice some improvement in performance. The legend has a relatively small internal storage and I was just wondering if anyone had tackled their internal sd. The phone is built like a tank with the unibody design so I wasn't about to start experimenting on his cell. I belive he is looking to switchout to a new phone anyway. Thanks for the reply.

SD card vs streak speed

Hi all.
If I replace the SD card in my phone with a class4 will it improve overall speed?
Anyone tried it?
Thanks

I recently upgraded my SD card from a 2 to a 10 and I don't notice significant speed increase.
Which of the 2 SD cards are you referring to? I replaced the "Data" SD card with a 32GB class 10 card, and I can definitely tell a difference writing to it. Overall, not much difference in speed reading from it.
Thank you very much for replies

Multiple Storage Partitons

Hello All,
I apologize if there was a thread about this in the past I tried searching but wasn't sure how to exactly word it. I was wondering about sd cards and partitions, I believe that the max size the atrix 4g is 32gb internal. What I was wondering is it possible to take a 64gig card partition it into 2 32gb partitions and have the phone be able to read those separately?
Thanks
Most android devices support 64gb microsd. Feel free to try it, btw is not the internal. Internal is 16gb for all of the device needs, os, webtop, etc and the external, the one you are mentioning.

Well I read like the default specs and it said it supports up to 32gb external but that was written I think before 64gb cards. I'm running cm7 so that may help too. Would just hate to spend the money if I put it in and it only recognizes 32 lol.

Upgrading the internal 16GB to 32GB

Is there any way to upgrade the internal 16GB storage to a 32GB? I'm not referring to the external MicroSD card.
It might be possible i think samsung use SD cards as their internal storage.
Yh of course there is sell ur 16gb version nd buy the 32gb version

ORRRRRRRR you can try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772234
is it even possible ? unless there are motherboard with 32 gb for sale ?
This is not possible for the conventional person unless you have access to some pro level reflow ovens and flash chips.

You need a laptop hard drive, super glue and a hammer.

So is that basically a no, without serious mods to the phone?
Dude the internal flash memory is what's called smd in electronics (surface mounted device). Basically they are miniaturized semiconductor components with tiny solder pads which can only be joined with specialized equipment.
It's impossible to mess with it at home, that's why I sprung the extra cash for the 32gb version.

This is indeed a very interesting notion since the galaxy s3 was my very first smartphone and android I thought to myself that with the 16gb internal SD with an extra external SD card it should suffice but I was very wrong as apps only install in the internal SD card and I'm almost at my limits since I have alot of HD games and apps installed.

Just buy a 64 GB micro sd card.
Have a look at Directory Bind. This should solve your space issues (assuming you have a micro sd card in your phone).

Im new to rooting so i don't like the idea of fiddling with it so is there any other means?

Lot less hassle rooting than even thinking about opening up device and messing with that...

Yeah but there's a mod to swap the Internal and external SD cards so you could buy a 64gb card and have lots of app storage. Its also a matter of time before the app2 SD gets sorted for s3
Oh well no worries, I can live with it

Well you might need to clarify your question. What do you want to do, set up your phone so that everything save onto your external sd?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
Yes I want to swap my external sd as internal sd, So I can have much bigger space on my phone. As you know the phone recognizes only internal memory as phone storage not the Sd card. I saw a video toturiol on YouTube about Galaxy S3 but I'm looking for SGH-1717.

Thats the ticket Brad.....
Based on that script, it moves the extent of what the OS will allow.
System data cannot be moved, but application data can.
Even then, some apps will not run from external storage....
Good find .....g

[Q] Precautions before SD Swap?

I'm going to clean install Beans 17 and use the sd card swap option; however, I'm trying to figure out what precautions I should take or what I should do to prepare and not lose data. I copied all my card over to my PC.
Should I delete everything on the card now or just let it on there and complete the swap?

As long as you have everything backed up, and there are no instructions telling you to have a empty SD card when you set up Beans with SD swap, you should be fine. I don't think having it full or empty will cause issues either way. Just make sure you read all the instructions and info on SD Swap in Beans thread.

Hey guys, I'm running Beans 17 with sd swap and I've been installing all kinds of apps with no problem but I noticed that the memory is being sucked up from the sd card and not the internal memory where I have 30 gigs. Weird, because without sd swap apps are downloaded into the internal memory and with swap downloaded to external sd where the measly internal memory is now. Kinda thought everything will be downloaded to internal all the time. How is everyone elses downloads going?

Thats supposed to be how it works. It is supposed to trick your phone into thinking your external is your internal I believe.

Let me clarify. If you go to applications manager, it only shows memory equal to your phone memory; however, for the new user, we'd think it'd show whatever is left on your sd card--now that your sd card is "internal" memory. So, instead of it saying I have 30GB left, it says I have like 1 GB left out of 11...or whatever the total is...
If I go to storage under settings, it shows phone storage as 64 and sd storage as whatever the phone storage amount is.

What I was getting at was that it tricks the phone, and the app market, into installing into the external card by making the external show up as internal to the app that are being installed. Thats my understanding of how it works and seeing as how i have never used it I know nothing of how it shows up just the general principle behind it and why it works the way it does. I may be completely wrong too, thats how I have seen it explained.
