HI,
I just upgraded to the leaked 2.3.5 and then rooted. My wifi does not stay on for more then a few seconds. I have searched and unable to find a fix for this.
Not sure what my options are? If I go to a custom ROM, which one will work with the 2.3.5 that I have on there. I perfer to stay as close to stock as possible.
Thanks for any suggestions
David
Non of the ROMs are based on leaked builds ... because they are buggy, like what you are saying.
Cognition, UnNamed and Serendipity are all really good, and based on the stable stock version of 2.3.4. Perception is based on a stock i9100 build.
Cognition is the closest to stock look, then UnNamed. Serendipity is themed quite a bit more, but is still pretty close to stock.

Thanks for the quick response. Anyone of these takes lead when it comes to battery. My biggest reason for getting away from stock was the crappy battery life.
Thanks
David
Anecdotally poeple are saying serendipity has the best.
I am reserving judgement on battery on serendipity until I get some "normal" use with it. I think its hard to say for sure its the best when its been out for less than 72 hours.
I was using UnNamed very satisfied with battery life for the past two weeks.
Battery life is what you make of it. There could be whole books written on android battery life, how to maximize it and how to tank it.

If you are using the stock kernel factory reset the phone.
if you are using JK1/JK2. Place these files in the attached zip into /system/etc/wifi. They are from JH7 and the let the newer JK1/JK2 ROMS to work with DD kernels. you will need to do this with root explorer.

I´ve just bought a Vibrant Galaxy S and I was thinking in updating it to gingerbread. First I thought there was an official release since most of the galaxy s have gingerbread now but to my surprise no gb for Vibrant. After reading this forum I have come to no conclusion whether I should update to 2.3.4 by using CyanogenMOD because if I read it correct it seems:
1) that Cya 7 drains battery faster than samsung stock 2.2 rom.
2) Also, it seems that all the samsung stock apps doesn´t come with Cya7. What app does it comes with for SMS, dialing, etc?
3) Why can´t you use roms from Samfirmware.com, there´s a I9000BVJJW4 2.3.3 there, is it incompatible with Vibrant?
4) What about the Dark Rom which also features 2.3.4, what´s the main difference from cyanogen? does it comes with touchwiz?
Thank you guys.

1- yes it does. thats the catch that comes with speed and performance.
2- Yes, it comes with SMS, dialing etc. IT doesn't come with the samsung music player, but the default one that google made. You will have to flash GAPPS after CM7 to get the Market, and the other stufff.
3-I9000 is another phone. We are T959
4- i cant answer that because idk
get the revamped miui it saved this phone I was going to ditch ditch my vibrant the I discovered it along with bali kernel WAY better battery life then when I was I 2.2 rom I can't even remember which rom I was on before miui

Well I would say use TW roms mix between speed an battery aan HW browser is nice once it gets better kernel then it will be better but if u want straight battery froyo CM7 is stock so no TW its just raw speed only thing bad is that browser sucks without HW
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
So revamped miui will give me better battery life than froyo? is it touchwiz? any bugs (I will use GPS)?
Why gingerbread?? Its .1 more.
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
Its the same reason we were clammoring for froyo from eclair, but aside from that its the latest and greatest software, i will say that CM based roms are by far the smoothest my phone has ever been and if you are truly worried about battery life read up on the kernels you can add like bali and glitch then undervolt and you can get pretty good battery life or atleast comparable to stock. I personally get about 14-20 hours depending on my usage in a day. Typical day consists of several 100 texts 2-3 20-30 minute phone calls, maybe total 1 hour browsing and other miscellaneous use.
what are the advantages of flashing ROMS? I've heard that Cyanogen mod 7 is very buggy, so I'll be leaning more towards Lighting ROM or Darky ROM if I do actually end up flashing one. I'm currently running Stock 2.3.5 if that makes any difference.
Thanks!

Most custom ROMS, for example villainROM, are based on samsung firmware , so they bring a close to stock experience, with touchwiz interface, samsung camera, etc... For me the biggest benefit of these ROMs is that they most of the times get rid of samsung and carriers bloatware and go with the latest samsung firmware (that usually takes a lot time to get via official updates through kies). The latest firmware usually implies a lot f improvement in performance and battery life (yes, it is significant).
In the other hand you have AOSP ROMS (android open source project). This is the case of CM7 (cyangenMOD) and MIUI, and others like oxygen, insanity ii, etc... Here, the devs get rid of samsung firmware, and modify the open source gingerbread to run on a specific device (like samsung galaxy s2 in this case). This is the reason it may be buggy at first, because not everything is running as on samsung firmware.
ANyway, the latest CM7 nightly is working great for performance and battery life, much faster than samsung ROMs also. SOme problems anyway, like the camera which is worse than the samsung one, FM radio not working. There are a lot of things that are way better in CM7 and a lot of things that are worse. But with the latest nightlies the bugs are minor and you can use your device for daily use withouth problems.
I personally was using CM7 for some time and yesterday I switched to checkROM revolution (xda thread) which is samsung firmware XXKI4. I', constantly changing since I miss the camera app and polaris office alot (polaris office as a samsung app can't run on CM7).
Cyanogenmod is not buggy!
Just use checkROM like the rest of us...
I can suggest you to read here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288850. Great team working on that rom.

Flashing a custom ROM makes sense, if you want to optimize the performance of your phone => flash a custom ROM specialized for better performance.
And if you want more battery life, flash a custom ROM specialized for a longer battery life.
If you feel fine with the official firmware, stick to a stock ROM.
That's what I am doing in the moment.
For me, the latest stock ROM is a good compromise / balance between performance and battery life.
But it's up to you ... feel free to try other ROMs.
if you have to ask the question then no, you probably shouldnt

Just wondering what the closest custom rom here is to stock at&t gb (minus all the at&t bs)?
there are several ROMS that come really close to being full stock without Crapware. I personally like the gingerbread shostock, but if you want to tool around and maybe find a different one, here is a (mostly, i believe) complete LINK
Bidrohi-ek-i777 uckk6 trimmed
this is the closest to stock that i have found my last sgs2 came with uckk6 and i used this to flash it back to stock, and return it to walmart.its also very easy to unroot with superoneclick.

Without a doubt I say UnNamed.
The next in line is ShoStock, while it is really close to stock he has made many great adjustments to it so give both a try for Gingerbread.
If your looking for unofficial stock AT&T ICS then go with Task's uploaded leak.
I also recommend the final build of UnNamed. It adds a few 'Why Weren't Those Already Included' features while staying true to the original GB feel. It's also (for me) incredibly quick and snappy.
Currently on the ICS-derived ShoStock, but sometimes I really do miss the UI swiftness of GB roms like UnNamed and UnOriginal.
UnNamed v1.3.2 ftw

I might still go back even though I'm digging task's rom. The speed of UnNamed is unmatched along with Entropy's 12/8/11 kernel.

I'm finding ICS to be a less than exciting experience. I'm on T-Mobile, and when they released 2.3.6 a few weeks before ICS, I thought it was wonderful. I was getting better battery life and things were great.
ICS feels bloated and sluggish to me, so I've decided to downgrade, but would like opinions on whether to just go back to 2.3.6, or go with Cyanogen.
Cm all the way bro

You said yourself what should be the BIG clue on what not to do -- "downgrade". Why downgrade... just do more reading and searching to find a good rom that is fast with better battery life. CM9 kernels and fluxi, among others, have good battery life. Don't jump off the ship so quickly before learning about it (you mind find turbo-boost if you took a little longer).
I find this an interesting, and since I'm very please with cm9/rc1 on my gt-p1000, but still consider to had the same for my gt-i9100.
I'm thinking how to make blue tooth on airplane mode, and my galaxy is unrooted and had try over and over again it won't work.
Meanwhile its no longer get issued on ics

The same story. But after many days of searching I found VK ROM V5.1.2. And I liked It very much and still using it as first boot rom. The only nuance is that you probably will have to buy Deluxe Settings app to get all features of the rom.
I have read a lot of threads similar to my problem, but not quite exact. I own a Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate SGH-T959D for 2+ years now. The problem only occured about a week ago.
Problems:
-Battery sometimes only charges up to around 85%
-When fully charged and unplugged, it instantly jumps anywhere between 80%-97% RARELY charging to 100%
-Battery drains to around 65% under an hour of usage.
-Battery dies somewhere between 40-65% without warning shutting it off. When I try to turn it back on, it only goes up to the logo screen and shuts back off. When I charge it, it charges starting around 50% or where percentage it died at.
-Battery only lasts 3 hours max with display on.
Things I tried:
-Restore to factory default
-uninstalled weather apps
-re calibrated
-Installed GSAM app to find out that no particular app is eating my battery life.
Cell Settings:
-Screen is at it's dimmest setting (no auto adjust)
-Not much background running apps.
-Wifi, and bluetooth off.
The battery doesn't drain quickly when it is sleeping (display off) when not in use.
Have you tried different roms to see if it could be an issue there? It sounds like it could simply be a bad battery, which honestly isn't the end of the world considering how cheap replacements are: http://www.amazon.com/Batteries-Captivate-EB575152VA-Anker-Multi-purpose/dp/B005HBGXR6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1359657962&sr=8-3&keywords=anker+samsung+fascinate+battery
Sorry, I don't know much or anything about roms. I am rooted, but that's all.
I have tried restoring mine to factory default, but when it started up again I was still rooted. Is there a way to Really restore my cell to factory default like it came out of the box without having to unroot the phone manually and then restoring to factory default?
It's not like my battery was slowly getting worse and worse battery life. The problem just occurred all of a sudden.
Just follow this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070
It has all the info you need to go back to stock, however I suggest going with one of the good 4.1 or 4.2 Jelly Bean roms that are available as they are much better than stock. I personally suggest either AOKP Milestone 1 or CM10 (latest nightly) which are based on 4.1 Jelly Bean, only because I feel all of the 4.2 roms aren't quite ready for prime time yet (although CM10.1 is supposedly really stable, but I haven't personally tried it yet).
Thanks for the help so far. What are the advantages of flashing roms? Does it by anyway increase battery life or make my phone function any faster?
I read a bit about it, but I am having trouble understanding some things. Could I flash any rom on to my cell, or only certain roms are compatible with my cell?
Well with the exception of CM (Cyanogen Mod) you can find the roms that will work with the Fascinate in the Developers forum here. Certain roms have different features that you may or may not want so it's not my place to tell you which one will be best, but it's very easy to flash different roms so you're best off downloading the most popular and giving them all a try. Also in answer to your question, you can't flash roms that are not meant for the Fascinate, like for example a rom meant for the Vibrant will NOT work on the Fascinate and will cause you major problems. Roms are labeled for what phones they work on though, so unless you're really not paying attention you shouldn't have a problem with that.
Flashing roms is the only way for you to get the latest versions of Android, as Verizon stopped supporting the Fascinate with the release of Gingerbread. Many people, including myself, consider Jelly Bean (latest Android) far superior to past versions of Android and would never go back. You have to realize though that all custom roms come with some risk, meaning that you may encounter bugs or have things not work 100% of the time. Usually this isn't a problem though, and overall the most popular roms are close to fully functional. If you are using your phone for a purpose that requires rock solid stability with almost no chance of errors, then you're still better off going with a good custom Gingerbread rom (I recommend this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278838). If you're a normal user though, the latest Jelly Bean roms are probably going to be better for you overall. If you want to try a good Jelly Bean rom go with this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847225 but just make sure to use the 4.1.2 google apps, NOT the 4.2.1 ones
Ok, so I am planning on flashing the Jelly Bean rom. What is a good way to flash a rom? Also, if I don't like the rom, is there a list of roms that are compatible with my device?
Yeah just follow section 4 of droidstyle's guide that I linked you and you'll be fine. Like I said, all of the available roms are found in the Developers forum with the exception of CM which can be found through a google search or going to rootzwiki.

What do you guys think of the cyanogen rom as opposed to the jelly bean one?
Also is this a good way to install roms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKy2AvKgB3c?
Disregarding stock ROM(s), the developer that has made the greatest contribution to enabling all of the current ROMs available for the fascinate is jt1134.
We are blessed that he still likes, develops for, and uses his fascinate... The CM10.1 nightlies are where his most recent efforts are made available to us - and he's fixed a major battery-draining bug within the last couple of weeks.
Why use anything else on this phone (other than JT's latest or something derived from it)?
I dispute the assertion made earlier on this thread that the current android v4.2 ROMs aren't ready for daily use. In over two years of keeping this old phone up to date, or on the bleeding edge if you look at it that way, I've never been more satisfied with performance or battery life.

I wholeheartedly agree with what you are saying about jt1134... but remember the OP's phone is a SGH-T959D and not our sch-i500
so in the thread i linked above read it all, then re-read and pay close attention to::
10. Installing ICS / JB - Depending on what OS you want to go to, you're going to need to grab an appropriate kernel to do so. The best option seems to be Semaphore's i9000 kernels. If you're going to flash an ICS rom, grab the 1.3.0s .tar file. If you're going to JB, grab the 2.1.0s .tar file.
11. Download your ROM of choice. i9000 versions of SlimICS/SlimBean/CM9/CM10 work on the T959D. You will also need grab the .zip version of the Semaphore kernel (ICS / JB) you're using and a Modem of your choosing. KG3 works best for me, your mileage may vary.
and this :::
... recommend either SLIM, TirmaSLIM, DarkyROM 11 or Andy Thomson's MIUI ROM at this point - all are pretty great ROMs and don't need the carrier hack.

thanks for the reply, seems like a quirky hardware omission by Samsung but if you all have no complaints about it, then I won;t worry too much about it. just thought it would be good to have some visual indication if your battery was charged or not after being connected to a wall socket without having to physically hit the power button. i can see that the bottom row of icons did light up for me when I got a message but I hope that doesn;t use too much more battery than a single LED.
As for 3500 mah batteries, I have a couple on order that hopefully will arrive soon for testing. under 10$ each in eBay.
