I installed CM7 build 08082011 on my Inspire 4G, and I've been using it for a few months and TTS has never worked (Navigation, Speaktoit, Voice Dialer etc.); it always FCs.
I've tried v. 2.0 and 3.1.
Any ideas?
Tts need voice search.apk as well. Do you have it?
Accidentally sent from my Google Nexus S using XDA Premium
I do; and Voice Search works well actually. Voice Dialer however has never worked; it pops up and never says anything (i.e. "Speak Now"), and doesn't take my commands either.
I had force close last time. But I forgotten that I've frozen my tts library or anything about voice command. Once I defroze, everything works.

I'll mess around with that and get back.
Okay, apparently there's an app called TTS Service. I had it uninstalled for some reason. I restored it (thank you TB) and everything's awesome.

Google voice for the nookcolor will access your voicemail and send/recieve text messages. The only problem is I can't get notifications to agree to pop up all the time. Otherwise it works great.
When installing there will be an option to select your google voice email address instead of your phone number. Select the email address, not your phone number and enjoy!
Thanks for this. Just installed but never got the option for the email. It thinks the nook is my cell phone. Its using that number.

Got it installed, but my keyboard is only showing the top half of itself.... odd.
The app on the nook is kinda useless. It doesn't have a contact function or dialer - you would better served with an email client or a contact app that allowed for more than just an email field.

I saw the same thing where I see only half the keyboard. It will nice having a app that allows me to SMS text from this device, if this keyboard thing is fixed.

Email field? What are you talking about? You can use this app for checking your voicemail and texting.
Also for the others for the half keyboard do you just mean only the alphabet popping up right?
Just switch the keyboard you are using.
Thanks, installed perfectly. Then I grabbed the updated version from my phone and it updated the Nook's app, works great except I've got the same issue with only 2 rows showing up for the keyboard. I also see that in Transdroid when entering label names. I'm working on installing a new keyboard now.
I'm running on nookie froyo and have and issue with Google Voice where it fails to download my voicemails? Anybody seen a solution to this?
I'm using Thumb keyboard and it shows the whole keyboard
Using Google voice 0.4.2.13
Hope that helps...

How do I get the apk to install? It says unable to install apk.
I just installed from the market...works perfect(sans call making of course).
Rooted 1.1, zeam...nothing special required.

What is the preferred method of installing this apk? I've tried downloading directly from the nook, but it won't install. I've tried using the computer and an SD card and used Root explorer but it wouldn't install. I also tried moving it into the system/apps and it still didn't install. Not sure what else to do.
I don't think I had any problems with GV on my autonootered Nook. Although I've only listened to a couple received voice mails, and haven't used it for TXT messages. Got the unlimited plan on the phone, so why bother using GV for it?
Woohoo thanks a lot.
Installed it as a normal app using adb and it installs and can send receive texts.
Default keyboard works great.
Surprisingly it overrode my up-to-date gvoice from the market without complaining about any signature mismatch.
Please post how you did this so it will live on for future versions.
update: earlier my wifi was flaky
For those that are not so great with adb, I got it working by dropboxing the 3 Google voice files I had in titanium back up on my phone, downloading it on my nook with dropbox app, and then moved the three files to my titanium back up folder on the SD card in my nook. Open titanium back up, restore Google voice App+data and voila Google voice on your nook.
I got it working. I installed the apk on a SD card from my computer. I moved it from the card into system/apps using root explorer. It did not register or install, but I THEN went to the market and installed it from the market.
After downloading from the market, it enabled me to use it. No clue why. Before when trying from the market it would say it couldn't complete installation because it was trying to register the number of the phone. Weird. Maybe the apk in the system/apps did something to the download? I don't know, but it works now so I can reply to texts on my nook or my phone.
As for the unlimited plan, I'm not paying 15 more to VZW to have this, when GV gives it for free.
Sorry to kind of resurrect an old thread - but I was also working with gvoice on my CM7 Nook Color and while it installed fine from the Market, I can listen to voicemails (it saves them as MP3s) and send texts back and forth, I cannot figure a way to make calls over WiFi from the gvoice number. That's kind of key - if I can make the non-cellular calls like I could from my computer.
Of course, successfully pairing a bluetooth headset comes first, but I like looking long-term.
Thanks!
Rich

You can't, because Google Voice is not a VoIP client. At least not yet. Even on phones if you make a "Call with Google Voice", it still goes over your carrier's voice service, not data.
Upgraded from Evo to 3D this morning, obviously loving it. However, since integrating Google Voice on the 3D, it is processing all my text messages. I would rather use Chomp as I did before. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling as well as reintegrating without any luck. I sent to the voice site and tried to modify some settings but no joy.
I'd like to keep voice for the cheap international calls, any one else suffering this or find a fix? Cheers.
Ok this has been answered quite a few times. But go to your app and hit menu > more > Settings > Sync and Notifications > Check Text Messages and uncheck Inbox notifications.
Unchecking Inbox notifications will keep google voice from telling you about the text but it'll still be saved there. The only downside is that it won't notify you of voicemails. I leave the widget on my screen to show them to me instead. Google was supposed to update the app so we can turn off text notifications but leave on voicemail notifications but they haven't yet.
Thanks for taking the time to write a response. I'm not sure what's happening as I don't have that option, even after redownloading the latest version of Voice from the Market. When I go to menu > more > Settings > Sync and Notifications, under Notifications, I have Text Messages (notify via text message) which is unchecked, followed by inbox notificatoins, vibrate, light and select ringtone. That's all the options there are. I can't unselect text as you mentioned, grr, slightly frustrating, the google text interface looks like it's plucked from the 80s.
Re-read, will play around with "inbox notifications" - currently chomp doesn't even notify, even though it's set to, so I think using this option, I won't ever get notifed. Thanks again.
Uninstall it and reinstall it - when you get to the first option to SKIP! DON'T DO IT.
Google royally ****ed up a good thing here. If you don't skip then things will work as they before the iPhone style takeover.
Appreciate the advice, I didn't skip, I've installed twice and gone thru each step, I'll try again, disabled notifications in Voice, but Chomp's notification ability is not ruined. Grr - why did they change, worked so well on the Evo up til yesterday!! The text engine is a joke, should be an easy option to switch it off.

I went through this problem on my og EVO. Turns out you need to change a setting on the desktop ver of voice. For some reason Google decided to uncheck the "get texts on this number" I don't remember where the setting is but dig a bit, you'll find it. Uninstalling the app does nothing

You have to skip the whole Sprint and Google Voice integration. That's what screws everything up.

Sprint and Google integration is great when done correctly. I prefer actual solutions than just avoiding the problem.

Yes its the sprint and google integration thats messing everything up. When I got my phone this morning it went ahead and switched over my sprint number to GV and I was getting txt through the GV app. I deactivated the integration and now it works as before. I just dont get any txt notification when I get a txt sent to my GV number which sucks.

I tried the integration, it worked great for voicemail, but i didnt want Voice to handle my texts - they cant take MMS. I couldnt find anyway to let the phone handle SMS - so I undid the integration...
I have GV+Sprint integration (carried over from integration on Pre-). I took the OTA & all updates.
This was pissing me off so bad. I want to use the app to listen to voicemails, but not for sending/receiving SMS. So here's what I did to keep the Voice app from hijacking the SMS inbox notifications:
Voice>menu > more > Settings > Sync and Notifications
Synchronize Inbox: UNchecked
Background Data: Enabled
Text messages: Checked
now my text messages (including MMS!) still go to the stock messaging app. I still get SMS/VM notifications from the Voice app periodically, but i just clear the SMS ones & listen to the VM ones.
Trying out this combo now though:
Voice>menu > more > Settings > Sync and Notifications
Synchronize Inbox: Checked
Background Data: Enabled
Text messages: Checked (confirmed warning)
Inbox notifications: UNchecked

Then by all means please share with us how to properly set it up. I'm new to this integration as I was predominantly using my T-Mobile and Verizon dealer lines since a bit before they launched this integration and I had the same issue so I too uninstalled the integration. I liked the idea tho. But all of a sudden Google Voice was handling all my messages and they WEREN'T hitting my phones inbox.
To put it simply, Fail.
So please, instead of just telling us we did it wrong, how about telling us how you achieved perfect harmony in spirit of honoring what this forum is about. Helping each other.
I didn't want to read through the previous flames, but if it didn't get answered already you need to go directly to google.com/voice and adjust the settings manually. You have to disable integration, from there you can add a new number, type in your current number and it will tell you you have options to select from, choose google voice lite for voicemail only. I'd get more specific but I cant access the site from here.

Alot of us are using google voice for our voicemail services just fine. I have been since the moment I got my Evo 4G.
Honestly, I think its the best. I do the vast majority of my texting during the day from the computer now. And with chrome + the GV extension, I can check, reply or create from a tiny icon, and not even have to open the GV page.

That is exactly it. I removed my number from the google site then clicked on update my account. Chose to use my mobile number, then chose the light version which only handles VM and no other feature's. Reinstalled it on my phone and all is good to go like it used to be.
Now I just wish spare parts battery option would work I can see if GV has any wakelock issues.
So how is everyone doing visual voicemail? Is there an app in market?? google voice? I had stock on blackberry and its on iphone, don't see anything here jumping out at me...

+1 Google voice
It has so many features that att voicemail can't do. It will transcribe your message so you can read it, it can automatically send that transcription to you via text or email. You can choose the order of playback of your messages, and you can rewind or fast forward them.

+2 for google voice. The transcription isn't perfect, but any errors are usually really easy to figure out.
I've had a google voice number since it wasn't even google voice (grandcentral), I've played with it off and on over the years but never used it. They've added a few features!
Installed the app on the my android for the first time yesterday and yea i'll +3 that for the visual voicemail.
Thanks everyone!
love my google voice once you get it set up.. just sit back and enjoy
+1 for Google voice, I tried Youmail and it seemed like there was always a delay in notification.
i used to have Youmail back in my BB days. But +10000 for google voice. Its much better, IMO.
I use the Phonefusion app. It's free and also does transcription. Seems to work fine, although the app is ugly as sin. I have Google Voice as well, but I don't use it as my main voice mail.
The AT&T Messages app will do VVM with your native mail and give you some other Google voice type functions. I don't like the delay for google voice vmail to pick up if you don't reject the call.

I've been playing around S voice and it's worse than the standard voice command android comes with. I was trying to find the app for it but could not. Only S voice was in the applications. I saw it is installed under "manage applications" but I can't open the application. Can someone help me find the file to run the standard voice command app? Thanks.
Couldn't agree more. I used the stock "Voice Search" app on my last phone to send text messages ("Text [CONTACT] message [MESSAGE]"), and it worked great. "S Voice" is pitiful. Has a tough time recognizing my contact names, and doesn't even pick up spoken punctuation.
So to bring back the option to use the "Voice Search" app, I just uninstalled the one that came with the phone (version 3.something), and then reinstalled from the market (which currently has version 2.1.4). Was able to find it in my app tray after that.
One caveat: I'm rooted, and uninstalled using Titanium Backup. You may not be able to do it from the "Application Manager".
Hope this helps!
Yeah I removed it as well. I found it too slow to respond to what you say. Anyway voice command doesn't really seem that useful to me. If I set an alarm using voice I would be paranoid and check the alarm was actually set.
My phone is synced with both a Google account and an Exchange account. I have contacts on both and can see them find in "Contacts" application.
However, when I use Google Voice Search (the little microphone on home screen) and say Call Bob or Send Text to Bob, it does not work. In the stock ICS rom, it used to do random stuff like searching web for a random business. I've since flashed Houstonn's JB ROM. Now I see that my voice command is transcribed perfectly i.e. when I say Call Bob Buster, I see the text "Call Bob Buster", but it just says Contact not found and gives me a link to "find contact". If I use that link and type in Bob Buster, it finds the contact.
So, the transcribing is perfect, plain text search works, but they using voice search to dial does not work. What gives? Same thing happens with Google Contacts and Exchange Contacts.
Any one else encounter this? Any workarounds? Thanks in advance.
Voice Control Works
Sorry to reply to my own post, but after I posted the above, It hit me that I should try another voice assistant that uses Google Voice Search engine/api. So I tried the Voice Control (Test). I've tried it in the past with stock ICS ROM without much success. However, in the JB ROM, it works great for almost all my contacts. So, it appears that the voice search engine is greatly improved in JB, but the the app/interface is some how broken.
I guess I'll go pay $1.99 to buy the full version of Voice Control.
EDIT: --Further Info--
First, I just figured out that there is an "Edit" button on this forum, so didn't have to make a new reply. Sorry about that.
I guess I was on a roll. After posting above, it occurred to me that there is an "offline voice engine" in JB. So I made sure that the offline data is downloaded and turned off wifi and mobile data. Voice Control just plain stopped saying no network available. May be it wasn't using the API properly. But here is the surprising part. I can now call many of my contacts with the call command just fine now (Google Voice Search).
So, I've tested turning data back on and same old problem of "can not find contact". I've repeated this 2-3 times. Same contact can be called when I am offline (no data), but not if I am connected. I guess Google is doing something funky when I am online?
Google Search Update Feb 13
The Google Search update on Feb 13 appears to have mostly fixed this issue. I am at 50-60% success rate in dialing my contacts. But the contacts it previously transcribed correctly, but couldn't find in my contacts are now being transcribed incorrectly. Oh well, I guess it is a step in the right direction.

Just curious, but when you hit the mic button, then tap the menu button for settings, there should be an option to check phone search. Select phone search and see what options are checked off. Make sure contacts is ticked and anything else you want search to look through. If you've already done this, my bad!

You may want to try Google Now instead of just voice search. If you're on ICS there are a couple hacked versions around. If back on JB, it's probably already installed. Make sure it's on/active. I've been getting pretty good search results with it (including contacts) and I'm on Slick ROM v6.
