so was roaming on Verizon just now and the conversation sounded great. Normally, there is really bad echoing and I have to wait for the other person to stop talking, or just interrupt them, like we're talking on a walkie talkie radio or something. Basically, when I make a call, only one person can talk at a time. I can't even answer with a yes no or ok without confusing the other person on a call. Is this because I'm using google voice? Or is this just normal sprint network? Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Don't know the answer, but maybe a little simple trouble shooting.
You said that you are using Google Voice. Try using it without it.
If that fixes the problem, then try Google Voice with a wifi connection.
Most likely your GV is not having enough Sprint bandwidth to complete the call.
Good luck!
hmmm...ive had this issue with one or two of the previous roms i was running. if ur rooted, try flashing a new rom or see if there are fixes in the corresponding thread! hope this helps!
Well, I mean I'm calling regularly, but I have g voice integrated...im not trying to use g voice. Should I disable it altogether? Question is, when u integrate g voice, does it use g voice exclusively?

Just curious but have any of you that own it overseas able to use Google voice or the like to make calls? Very interested if its possible

I'm pretty sure the only way you would be able to do that is if you used Skype to make and recieve all your calls. You would have to get a Skype number, then pay the $2.99 for unlimited U.S. calling. More conveniently you could port your cell number to Google Voice and then have that number ring your Skype number. Whenever you left the house you would just have to make sure 3G was on (so you would have to get it from Sprint). Also the mic on it is pretty bad from what reviewers are saying, so you would need a bluetooth headset.
Edit: Forgot to point out Google voice won't make calls over 3G, hence why you would need Skype.
Edit 2: And of course the battery is very good so it makes this setup very possible.
Please help
Very imp. for me; just to make sure, i own a samsung galaxy tab and i want to switch to the flyer, does it work as a cell phone like the galaxy? or not?
I don't have a Flyer, but it was mentioned multiple times that there is no such gsm voice functionality: you can only talk via Skype. Also, the leaked manual didn't mention voice via gsm, but sms/mms connectivity is available. Now's the question: can somebody patch voice into a Rom?

My phone will receive texts for about a day. Then it stops receiving them entirely and the only resolution I've found so far is to reboot.
Is this a known problem and if so, how can it be permanently resolved?
Do you use Google voice? I forgot to install it and missed voice mails and texts for a few hours. A friend had a task manager that was killing Voice and he could not figure it out so he brought me his phone, after he threw it. I took voice off the auto kill list and he is good now.

I wish this was my issue, but no, my phone is stock, and rooted using OCR.
I do not think I have been having this issue since day one of owning the photon (9/15), so if that's the case, it started at some later point.
Its more than likely sprints network and not the phone. Visit the official Sprint forums and you will see a lot of complaints about this same issue from people with all types of phones.
Over the past week (or longer) sprint was experiencing nationwide outages. I too couldn't receive text on and off. Also my 3G has just been off but i could make calls. I called and thats what a rep told me; makes sense i guess. Sprint blows anyways
Reprimand me if this has been addressed already and my stupid ass couldn't find it.
I live in an area with no 3G coverage at all. EDGE will suffice for simple things such as sms/mms, phone calls (obviously), and web browsing with Opera Mini.
At my house, we have wifi and my phone is always connected to it and signal strength is always excellent. Since I live in the woods, I get no more than 2 or 3 bars of cell service at any given time, if I'm lucky. One or two is the norm.
Can I make calls over Wifi? Or sent text/picture messages? Perhaps I simply don't understand how it works, but a large percentage of the time when I try to reply to a text, it fails and I have to send it repeatedly. Or if someone sends me a picture of some sort. Takes forever to download, if it works at all. Making a phone call is an exercise in futility. Perhaps it has to be done a certain way.
I'm running the latest version of ShoStock2 at the moment, but these problems happen with AOKP, CM9, and Phone Bricker, amongst others.
I'm sure there's apps that allow you to do that. First Google result shows Talkatone. Idk if there's other similar ones/better ones, but you can start there.
As for text, I'm sure there's an app for that too
I used textfree on my iPod. Can't recall if I couldn't send or receive pics though.
For calls, to my understanding, naturally. No. I'd say get something like Skype where you can do VoIP and do all your calls from there on WiFi, as for texts and MMS you really shouldn't have any problems. as far as I'm concerned, texts should be fine, and mms should download via wifi if you are connected. But if it continues to be a problem you could always get Textfree or Whatsapp and get your friends in on that. Its platform wide (literally) and is supported on every device i can think of.
Hit thanks if I've helped you.
Hope you figure out this issue!
You could use text free for texts you just couldn't use your own number or Google voice of course for text and calls. But you can't route your actual cell phone calls and texts over wifi. T-Mobile has that capability but not us on at&t.

Actually there is a new app called Sidecar that lets you call any number over WiFi for free.
I have tried it, and its pretty good.

Also bobsled.
Voice calls? YES
SMS? YES
MMS? NO
I thought that Google voice was supposed to start supporting MMS, but not sure when. I have been waiting for a while. I use Groove ip as well.
Whats difference between SMS and MMS? A friend and I are 7 days late and our phones are off.
I had viber but got rid of it cause i wasn't using it. (maybe redownload?)
Also my google voice doesn't let me make calls or send messages? (it says I can do international calls - but I turned it off cause it said I needed money in a "google account" sigh...)
I can still use wifi at my house, but thats about it.

hi all,
couldn't find an answer to this one although i'm pretty sure the answer is no.
is the SGH-I777 workable to get wifi calling going like T-Mobile phones, or is that strictly a T-Mobile thing and we don't have the app and/or hardware for it?
thanks for the info!
To my knowledge you can't use wifi to make calls from your phones cell number. There is an app I use that will allow you to make wifi calls from a Google voice number. Check out Grooveip. It is a payed app, but it does work for wifi calling. With a rooted phone there may be other options that I am unaware of.

Yep, grooveip is one option, and I think talkatone might work too, though I've never used it.

Yes as stated above groove ip would be the best bet i use it once you have it set up if you go to gmail you can set up a phone number for calls to be fowarded to a specific phone or your phone there is a free version of groove ip a well as paid
Sometimes when I receive a call, I'll answer it and it will play the person's recording of their name and say "press 1 to accept or 2 to..." What's going on? Never had this happen on any other phone... I'm completely stock. Thanks.
Do you use Google Voice? That sounds like your calls might be going through GV. Just a thought.

I didn't think of that... But... I only use it for voicemail and it has never happened in my other phones. I don't use google voice for calls.
Hmm. Well maybe when you set up voicemail, somehow it also set to have your calls go through GV? I might would double check the settings just to make sure. I know one time I had a similar issue and checked the settings and saw it was set that way. I don't know why... as I didn't purposely set it that way... so I apparently did something on accident.
