Does this work with custom kernels such as the one in serendipity? I am seeing how much I can push this phone. Thank you for the answers
Don't know about tegrak but setCPU works great, I can overclock to 1.6 with no issues... Though I keep it lower than that for battery life

Can and should I overclock while running kaos froyo? My usual overclock widget doesn't seem to work. Just curios, it's a little laggy already I don't want to put to much more unless it will help because I really am quite fond of this rom.

All the froyo roms come overclocked to 710 already if i'm not mistaking. If overclock widget isn't working for you then you could try setCPU to bump it up even higher. Enabling JIT might help to if you havent already done so.
I downloaded nemisis's kernel 1200 OC and -50UV. it says the kernel is already overclocked. Does that mean i dont have to use setcpu? I never used any of these overclocked or undervolted kernels before. What instances do i need setcpu for?
You need to use setcpu. Its also useful for when u want to use different kernel governers or profiles under certain conditions.

ok so then the enderst special oc 1200 mhz uv by -50mv kernel is basically useless unless i use that app then (minus the UV)? also what are the chances im gunna fry my processor if i keep this overclock kernel for everyday use?
Edit: also how hot is too hot for a battery to get? aka whats a normal range? also after heavy use (like after playing angry birds or tank hero)?
The battery in our phone (cobalt li-on) should never go above 130c. At above 150c you going to get thermal runaway and have a dead or exploded battery.
For a good article on lithium batteries see: www.buchmann.ca/article28-page1.asp

The profiles are NOT compatible with Galaxy S phones, at least the Fascinate. Some may work for some people alright, but most people experience many different problems, I myself have problems with the profiles. I recommend against using them. Just use it for the governor/overclock.
I'm on Bali 1.8.8UV, I was on Bullet, but is there another good Kernal?

i had the best battery life with bali kernel....but now i don't own a vibrant
recently i went to Bionix-v 1.3.1 b/c of this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16138333&highlight=battery+life#post16138333
Best battery life on Bali
i need to adjust my kernal (bullet)...how do i use setcpu LOL. it doesnt give me the option for vibrant and the custom freq. setting isnt working. it says is your sd umounted from pc....

Not positive, but I don't think Bullet supports user configurable voltages.

528 ghz!! holy crap...that's amazing
Anyway, go to superuser..look for SetCpu under Apps. click on it and hit allow

its going to be great when they actually have phones that fast or even a 4ghz phone would be more than enough
maybe you can try bullet kernel.

Best kernels for battery life are either Bali-X 1.2, or Immortality v2.1
I would recommend you try all of the aforementioned kernels and see which one works best with your phone. I'll put some links below to kernels that are said to provide good battery life. Make sure you choose the UV download of your choice.

I'm running the stock ROM rooted and all. After using cynogenmod for a bit I switched back to stock and I can no longer overclock past 1200. Can someone explain or help me out.

I think we cannot over clock (OC) with stock kernel. Try Entropy's kernel or Siyah. I am using CM and Siyah and I can OC. I didn't try with stock kernel however.
Thank you. I'll try it and get back
To you

I was able to overclock to 1.452 stock rooted with Zedomax kernel using Tergrak Overclock from Android Market... give that a try
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777
Kernel bro. You need a kernel with the abilities to overclock. Stock kernel can't.
Tegrak in the market. Buy the ultimate version for oc as high as ya want + core and internal voltage tweaks.
The free version lets you oc a little & no voltage adjustments.

This may sound a bit patronizing but if you cannot over clock due to the wrong kernel and not realize it, it may be best to do more research and make sure you understand what's going on before trying to over clock.

It does sound patronizing, but I can't blame you for trying to warn him/her. A lot of people have experience with computer OCing though, and may be new to Android.

I understand that people overclock their computers, but overclocking an android device is different since you cannot just boot into the bios, thus I encourage people to research before trying something they may be unfamiliar with. Otherwise someone will have to end up hoping their warranty/phone insurance or whatever will cover something going wrong due to overclocking.
you can only overclock with a kernel that is compatible with overclock
Do you really need to over clock? I haven't seen a reason to on this beast of a phone. Its not like the captivate was.

You mean there's no option anywhere, or that setcpu won't let you?

Well, I'm not sure if that was a question or not but as far as I know you can't flash the kernel because of our wonderful locked bootloaders...
If you were to use the search function, you would see that there are modules and scripts available to overclock our CPUs. Our processors are already factory overclocked 200Mhz, the maximum I have been able to reach is 1.3Ghz
I was looking to under volt to save battery
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
You can do that as well
Sent from my XT910 using XDA
is it possible to undervolt by only setting it in one app?
without too much trouble, i'm not good in flashing files etc.
As far as I know, the only way is using scripts, and you can adjust the clock frequency in say.. SetCPU. But the voltage settings are only available in the script itself, if you check this post you can see there are scripts already made for under clocking / under volting.
