I can't overclock past 1200 mhz - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I'm running the stock ROM rooted and all. After using cynogenmod for a bit I switched back to stock and I can no longer overclock past 1200. Can someone explain or help me out.

I think we cannot over clock (OC) with stock kernel. Try Entropy's kernel or Siyah. I am using CM and Siyah and I can OC. I didn't try with stock kernel however.

Thank you. I'll try it and get back

I was able to overclock to 1.452 stock rooted with Zedomax kernel using Tergrak Overclock from Android Market... give that a try
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777

Kernel bro. You need a kernel with the abilities to overclock. Stock kernel can't.

Tegrak in the market. Buy the ultimate version for oc as high as ya want + core and internal voltage tweaks.
The free version lets you oc a little & no voltage adjustments.

This may sound a bit patronizing but if you cannot over clock due to the wrong kernel and not realize it, it may be best to do more research and make sure you understand what's going on before trying to over clock.

It does sound patronizing, but I can't blame you for trying to warn him/her. A lot of people have experience with computer OCing though, and may be new to Android.

I understand that people overclock their computers, but overclocking an android device is different since you cannot just boot into the bios, thus I encourage people to research before trying something they may be unfamiliar with. Otherwise someone will have to end up hoping their warranty/phone insurance or whatever will cover something going wrong due to overclocking.

you can only overclock with a kernel that is compatible with overclock

Do you really need to over clock? I haven't seen a reason to on this beast of a phone. Its not like the captivate was.

You mean there's no option anywhere, or that setcpu won't let you?

[Q] Glitch 11.1 Question

I flashed the Glitch kernel...
this where I'm still a learning n00b...
I get the Glitch graphic when the phone is powering on but how do I know if this kernel is FULLY working? Or is it?
If you get the glitch boot animation and your phone is properly running...odds are its installed fine, but you should go and grab voltage control from the market so you can overclock and under volt to gain the most from this kernel.
Voltage control will also verify whether or not you have the glitch kernel since it doesn't work with stock kernels.
As side note I also recommend grabbing cpu spy (also in market) to see what speeds your processor is running at.

well you're seeing the glitch image, so it is working. I can't remember if the lagfix is enabled by default, if so, then you really do nothing. If not, then enable it with clockworkmod.
What I usually do is download Quadrant from the market and run a benchmark. If lagfix is not enabled your score should be around 850ish, if it is enabled, you should get 1500ish score.
Hope this helps... which rom are you using? and how do you find it?

MTD doesn't use lagfix. Which the glitch kernel for vzw fascinate is only to be used on, mtd roms.

I have CM7. I get the Nightlies daily.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Yeah it isn't voodoo lagfix, just voodoo sound and color. MTD runs better than voodoo ext4.
If you get the glitch boot logo then it worked, you're on glitch. To get the most out of it download Voltage Control and Voodoo Control from the market, voltage control lets you control the CPU and voltages to save battery and get performance customizations while voodoo control gives you some cool options with sound to enhance the quality of music and color to make the screen look however you want.
Now I hit over 2,000. I have no idea what it means, lol.

It a benchmark.. quadrant runs a series of tests.. i.e. memory read/write speeds, cpu, graphics, etc.. the it gices a score on each test, combines them, and compares them with other phone models.
I think I'm beginning to understand.
I went to the Voltage Control and jacked it up to 1700mhz and this phone basically flies out of my hand, and the battery life basically dies. So I lowered it.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
If you can do that without the phone messing up, you're on the right leakage. lol
The new glitch 12 release has some recommended setting you can try out.

It's still beta, right? I want to wait until it's stable. Isn't that the best idea?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
No, beta doesn't mean "it isn't ready for people to use" but just that it isn't fully 110% stable and still might have some bugs. It'll probably never be "stable" just because of the spotty hardware and other issues, but I've been on glitch since it came out and it has been perfectly stable. If you wait for an officially stable release you'll likely never get to experience the awesomeness that is Glitch.
v12, like v11, has been rock solid for me as well.

Start with high and with your way down in leakage and see which is the most stable or can handle the most overclocking...all phones are different and handle leakage values differently but i'm pretty sure that low leakage is the most efficient and generates the least amount of heat but some phones will preform the best and be the most stable on medium or high..experimentation is probably the best answer

what kernel are you on? the kernel that came with it (jts) or did you flash glitch kernel afterwards? If you have jts kernel you can only OC to 1300 and you phone should be able to handle that easily. If you are on glitch it depends on how you like your phone really. When I was on glitch I OC'd to 1440 and UV 100 every step ( I am not using the 100 state).
glitch kernel with -100mV on 1.0-1.4GHZ Will work. I don't have The random keyboard popups

Like this set up so far. Glitch ml 9-22 and 1.4 -100 ever step, cfq scheduler. Runs very smooth.
Edit: so I still get keyboards popping up but not as bad, it still does activate the back button, this is extremely frustrating especially when trying to open apps or use them. This happens when the signal indicator reads 1or2 bars.

Did you ever find out anything on the phantom keyboard popups? I too have always had them and it's really annoying!! I was starting to just think it was something with my phone cause it has happend on every rom i've used.
I have found that I have them a whole lot more often if im running the CM7 Kernel even with the latest nightly build.
I'm currently running the Glitch kernel and it is a whole lot better but I still might have them once or twice a day.
Sorry for the long delay but I have dug a little deeper on this subject. I ran the most recent stock rom and kernal and could not get the pop ups. Once I flashed a mtd rom they came back. I have not tried Enyo's newest rom to see if the pop ups and phantom menu and back button depresses. This problem occurs if the screen is spotless clean or if it's dirty with oil from your hands or what have you. I imagine someone is working on a solution at this time and would be free to test any and all solutions for devs.

First, I have to tell you that I own an HTC Inspire so I am not certain that this will actually help, but I have seen many cases when people try to overclock their cells and experiencing crashes. The main reason is that your Rom might be overclocked already and then the app you are using might be in conflict with the script in the kernel. The other reason, might be that you phone can´t be overclocked to 806 and therefore you should try a bit less. As I said before I do not own an LG but I am pretty sure that CM7 is overclocked in its kernel...hope it helps.
Another reason can be that your chip can't work at this speed without problems. There's a reason why manufacturers use a certain frequency for their processor, it's a ratio between power consumption, heat, and maybe reliablility... Some processors can handle perfectly the overclock, some don't...

The most stable frequency is 729mhz and since you are a n00b, u shud use it since higher frequencies may give you random reboots after an hour and stuff.. different phones have different capabilities... some have even gone to 864mhz which is impossible on 99.9% optimus ones... rest 0.01% are lucky...
for u stable is 787...
everyphone is different and stable at different frequencies...
u can try 806 with franco gamer v20
Lol ik im a n00b. But yeah ive been using 787 without any issues. But i decrease it once in a while when not home to save battery

Do you want higher overclock

So in Mackay kernel I'm thinking of adding higher over clock steps. But first I want to know how many people would want that? And how high. I'm thinking I can go up to 1.7ghz like in the gingerbread glitch kernel

[Q] How to achieve high CPU clock speeds without freezing?!?

So I have had this phone for about a week and the ROMs/kernels I've had on it only go up to 1732mhz. I started looking for jb ROMs today and came upon this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831841) so using it for the first time I noticed I had tons of profiles and a clock speed up to 1944mhz. I attempted to go past my usual oc and I got to 1789mhz but after 1832mhz my phone freezes...why do these kernels or ROMs have high clocks that I or others can't get to without issues? It just makes no sense for something to be there that can't be used w/o issues. Anyway if anyone can please tell me how to get higher clocks or am I doing something wrong? Any help will be thanked.
