Yes The Team Whiskey-/ Dragon and some of the Eugene kernels can over clock very well I had one 1.45 The problem with o.c is the battery drain
But any of those do well in the over clocking world.

It could just mean that the developers of Nexus S put a higher voltage at the higher clock speed, which also means that it kills your phone faster.
You don't gain something from nothing. Oh and I am not talking about battery life....
dragon 3.6 overckolcked to 1.4 has battery almost as good as stock ! DoW doesent because it overclocks gpu at the same time and this is whats jams your phone when u run graphic benchmark.

A newer device with (in all likelihood...this is a guess based on decades of experience with CPU's) a newer revision stepping of the Hummingbird CPU. CPU/GPU manufacturers are ALWAYS fine tuning their designs, primarily for higher yields and better stability. This plays out predictably in the desktop x86 environment with concepts like speed-binning and overclocking in that arena, so it should come as no surprise that this plays out in other areas as well.
Newer board layout with design experience gleaned from manufacturing a few million Galaxy S devices? Reduced capacitance and resistance issues due to layout changes, altering of support components, changing trace lengths...etc, so on and so forth. All of these things can play out for significant and measurable improvements in stability. Manufacturers learn as they "do", the same as we do.
In other words, there are all sorts of easily plausible reasons why.
These sorts of things all have a significant effect in the desktop/laptop system world, so there is no reason to assume they wouldn't carry over to the smartphone universe.
I flashed the Glitch kernel...
this where I'm still a learning n00b...
I get the Glitch graphic when the phone is powering on but how do I know if this kernel is FULLY working? Or is it?
If you get the glitch boot animation and your phone is properly running...odds are its installed fine, but you should go and grab voltage control from the market so you can overclock and under volt to gain the most from this kernel.
Voltage control will also verify whether or not you have the glitch kernel since it doesn't work with stock kernels.
As side note I also recommend grabbing cpu spy (also in market) to see what speeds your processor is running at.

well you're seeing the glitch image, so it is working. I can't remember if the lagfix is enabled by default, if so, then you really do nothing. If not, then enable it with clockworkmod.
What I usually do is download Quadrant from the market and run a benchmark. If lagfix is not enabled your score should be around 850ish, if it is enabled, you should get 1500ish score.
Hope this helps... which rom are you using? and how do you find it?

Yeah it isn't voodoo lagfix, just voodoo sound and color. MTD runs better than voodoo ext4.
If you get the glitch boot logo then it worked, you're on glitch. To get the most out of it download Voltage Control and Voodoo Control from the market, voltage control lets you control the CPU and voltages to save battery and get performance customizations while voodoo control gives you some cool options with sound to enhance the quality of music and color to make the screen look however you want.
Now I hit over 2,000. I have no idea what it means, lol.

It a benchmark.. quadrant runs a series of tests.. i.e. memory read/write speeds, cpu, graphics, etc.. the it gices a score on each test, combines them, and compares them with other phone models.
I think I'm beginning to understand.
I went to the Voltage Control and jacked it up to 1700mhz and this phone basically flies out of my hand, and the battery life basically dies. So I lowered it.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
If you can do that without the phone messing up, you're on the right leakage. lol
The new glitch 12 release has some recommended setting you can try out.

It's still beta, right? I want to wait until it's stable. Isn't that the best idea?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
No, beta doesn't mean "it isn't ready for people to use" but just that it isn't fully 110% stable and still might have some bugs. It'll probably never be "stable" just because of the spotty hardware and other issues, but I've been on glitch since it came out and it has been perfectly stable. If you wait for an officially stable release you'll likely never get to experience the awesomeness that is Glitch.
v12, like v11, has been rock solid for me as well.

Start with high and with your way down in leakage and see which is the most stable or can handle the most overclocking...all phones are different and handle leakage values differently but i'm pretty sure that low leakage is the most efficient and generates the least amount of heat but some phones will preform the best and be the most stable on medium or high..experimentation is probably the best answer

Kernel bro. You need a kernel with the abilities to overclock. Stock kernel can't.
Tegrak in the market. Buy the ultimate version for oc as high as ya want + core and internal voltage tweaks.
The free version lets you oc a little & no voltage adjustments.

This may sound a bit patronizing but if you cannot over clock due to the wrong kernel and not realize it, it may be best to do more research and make sure you understand what's going on before trying to over clock.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
It does sound patronizing, but I can't blame you for trying to warn him/her. A lot of people have experience with computer OCing though, and may be new to Android.

I understand that people overclock their computers, but overclocking an android device is different since you cannot just boot into the bios, thus I encourage people to research before trying something they may be unfamiliar with. Otherwise someone will have to end up hoping their warranty/phone insurance or whatever will cover something going wrong due to overclocking.
you can only overclock with a kernel that is compatible with overclock
Do you really need to over clock? I haven't seen a reason to on this beast of a phone. Its not like the captivate was.

Most kernels say 1.9 but u should stay at 1.83. 1.9 creates bootloop
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Yes...it does bootloop alot at that speed.. the safest speed is 1.83 or even 1.89 that's plenty of enough speed without any problems...

1.94 os max speed if u read it says 1.83 stable
sent from team perfections ics rom
The max speed on any device is always unstable. Actually most of the time the top two or three speeds ar always unstable. It also depends on the device too. My Note and your Note may not be stable at the same speed and the rom has nothing to do with it, its the chip in your phone. I remember I had a Touch Pro 2 once that most people could only over clock to 710MHz but a few of us could overclock to 786MHz. I have my Note running pretty stable at 1836 but I have seen some people complaing about bootloops at that speed so it really depends on your device. Remeber when testing out clock speeds make sure that you never check "Apply At Boot" in case the speed is not stable and only check it when you find a stable speed. Her's a video of someone running stable at 1890MHz

So I have had this phone for about a week and the ROMs/kernels I've had on it only go up to 1732mhz. I started looking for jb ROMs today and came upon this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831841) so using it for the first time I noticed I had tons of profiles and a clock speed up to 1944mhz. I attempted to go past my usual oc and I got to 1789mhz but after 1832mhz my phone freezes...why do these kernels or ROMs have high clocks that I or others can't get to without issues? It just makes no sense for something to be there that can't be used w/o issues. Anyway if anyone can please tell me how to get higher clocks or am I doing something wrong? Any help will be thanked.
