Overclocking issues - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I'm currently on The Unofficial v1.5 and supposedly it supports overclocking up to 1.9 ghz. Has anyone else using this rom noticed that when you raise the clock speed that high it just reboots constantly? Its supposed to be able to support it, so have I done something wrong?

Most kernels say 1.9 but u should stay at 1.83. 1.9 creates bootloop
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

Yes...it does bootloop alot at that speed.. the safest speed is 1.83 or even 1.89 that's plenty of enough speed without any problems...

1.94 os max speed if u read it says 1.83 stable
sent from team perfections ics rom

The max speed on any device is always unstable. Actually most of the time the top two or three speeds ar always unstable. It also depends on the device too. My Note and your Note may not be stable at the same speed and the rom has nothing to do with it, its the chip in your phone. I remember I had a Touch Pro 2 once that most people could only over clock to 710MHz but a few of us could overclock to 786MHz. I have my Note running pretty stable at 1836 but I have seen some people complaing about bootloops at that speed so it really depends on your device. Remeber when testing out clock speeds make sure that you never check "Apply At Boot" in case the speed is not stable and only check it when you find a stable speed. Her's a video of someone running stable at 1890MHz

Yes. Leave it at 1.5max and 192min. If you're not doing anything that requires oc'ing, why set it high.

would that cm9 1.5 ?
if so , where are you over clocking from ?

Just a tip if you overclock your CPU it will drain the battery life faster keep this in mind.....

The unofficial v1.5 rom came with an OC tool. If I downloaded another one, say SetCPU, will it just override the native tool?

3800+? How did you get that high?
I'm running SGT 10.1 rooted/In Parisv4/Pershoot's kernel and OC @1.4 or so I thought. I read this and opened Quadrant Standard. Ran it and got 1829. I noted this was about the same as those running at 1Ghz and knew something wasn't right. I went into SetCPu and checked "set at boot" rebooted the tab, and my scores are now much betta:
2941
3069
3069
3063
not bad, but based on the advice in the SETCPu setup guide and my experience as an original/gangster of PC overclocking (Celery Sandwich will likely tell my age) this not be any issue at all, for the SGT10.1, but if you start seeing weird ()&(^$# THEN BACK IT DOWN, RINSE, REPEAT AT A LOWER FREQUENCY, if the problem can't be reproduced there it's likely due to instability between frequencies of CPU and main memory. Bottom line step your oclock up slowly until you hit repeatable instabilities/errors/crashes, and then back it down.
Anyone know off the top of their head an app to monitor the temperature of the CPU? I get the battery temp from inside Set CPU along with a lot of great info except my CPU temp, which is typically important for OC'ers.

[APP] Tegrak Overclocking Supports SGS Series(UPDATED)

There is finally a way to overclock this thing with stock rom!! It supports at max 1.3GHz which runs very fast and still manages to have very good battery life(Also requires root permissions)

I know with the ultimate version you can clock up to 2GHz and adjust voltage... does the "max 1.3GHz" mean this wouldn't actually do anything if clocked to say... 1.5GHz?

Well in the free version the Max is 1.3ghz but in the full it would probably work at 1.5ghz or 2.0ghz(that would be super fast) but not sure how safe it would be, it may work good on one device but not on the other, if you have the ultimate version you should try it out and see what works and doesn't(I don't have the full version but now I want it!!!)

Even if someone did upload ultimate, it does a license check. Besides, I don't think XDA wants to support illegal downloads.

Yes I'm using the premium version. The settings for that is (frequency, core voltage, internal voltage)
1600mhz, 1360mV, 1160mV
1200mhz, 1300mV, 1120mV
800mhz, 1200mV, 1100mV
400mhz, 1050mV, 1100mV
200mhz, 950mV, 1100mV
100mhz, 950mV, 1000mV
(I got these values from another post, can't find it at the moment, use at your own risk) I have attempted to go higher but all I got was about 50mhz more before becoming unstable. The app does let you go to 2 ghz but it doesn't work on the galaxy player, I tried but the screen blurs and the device freezes.

How many people are stable at 1.6ghz?

Hey, so just like the title says are you stable at 1.6ghz do a little test run quadrent on your phone and than if it passes your probably good but also try 10mins of angry birds just to make sure i on the other hands cannot run quadrent at 1.6ghz

I'm stable at 1.5 (1350mV), though I don't run it at that daily. It was covered in steve's init thread in development. Look in the last few pages.
i run antutu all the time at 1.6 with no problems. guess i got lucky
Ok just gave my 1600mhz 50mv more and its stable now so i can finally overclock a little higher when needed
Stable only to [email protected] here. Locks up after that.

Mine overclocks to 1.6 with no issues at all. I ran it like that for weeks until I decided that I want longer battery life. The stock speed is still fast, and underclocking still results in acceptable responsiveness.
I use Tasker to overclock my phone when playing certain intensive games. Otherwise, my phone is usually underclocked.
Mine's never crashed at 1.6, but I don't really stress test it there besides with benchmarks.
Mine locks up at 1.4Ghz. Each one is different i guess..
Stable at 1.6 with custom kernels or tegrak on stock kernel. UV too.

I am very stable at 1.6
I have never had any issues at 1.6 and that is on just about every rom. I dont ever keep it at that cuz i dont enjoy sucking my battery but it is definitely fun to show off to others, HAHA! Also I have a captivate and the highest it would let me overclock it was 1.7 and that is ridiculous but it was unstable. lol
I've found a way to make almost every setting I have tried relatively stable. You just have to keep tweaking. It's not as simple as getting an overclock app and maxing. Here are some screen shots I took of a recent bench. This is only at 1632. I customized a I9100 ICS rom to be fully functional on my I777 and I'm scoring higher just above 1600 than I was closer to 1700. I was ranked 720 but those transformer primes! I wish it was only mobile phones on the chart! lol
Mine is stable at 1.6.......but im like everyone else. Don't like watching my battery drop like the ball at times square on new years eve lol .mine seems pretty happy at 1.4 with some under volting

For those that OC...what speed?

Hey all,
I've always liked to OC my devices and wonder what speeds others at sitting at. Right now, I'm sitting at 1836 (interactive gov). I have chargers all over the place from home to car to work and battery life is never an issue. Don't get me wrong, the device is fast as is, I just like to see where I can take it. So what say you?
That is the speed i used as a daily driver when i was on GB. Any higher and encountered FCs. Was going to eexperiment with overvolting and 1.94 but ICS came out and switched to it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
From what I'm seeing, there must not be an OC capable kernel for the ICS leak yet. But with the official ICS around the corner...there will be ****rubbing my hands****.

Are you on a custom Rom or kernel? I'm still on stock but rooted and am not doing anything special (i.e. not killing any apps before running the benchmark). My score is typically between 19,500 - 20,500. 18,700 is fine though, maybe you have an app that is running on the background slowing things down a bit.
