[Q] Cracked screen. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hey everyone! Well I just got a couple of questions for you guys. I recently dropped my phone and the screen is all cracked up. Still works, touch still works, but like every cracked screen, it will eventually die on me. My question is, now I know there is a difference between the screens, but I was wondering if I could put an international galaxy screen onto an AT&T galaxy? Just wondering if anyone has done this yet... I can't find any replacement lcds online for the AT&T gs2, so any help would be awesome! Thanks everyone!

since the top glass includes the capacitive buttons, i'm going to go out on a limb and say, absolutely not

yeah, that middle button might pose a problem - lol

ATT has a 4.2 in screen where the International is 4.5

Sweet! Thanks everyone for your reply! Guess just gonna have to search the web for a screen replacement. Funny thing is, had att mention that i wanted insurance, i probably would have taken it. But oh well, its the past. Thanks again everyone!

Well call att and get insurance now. Don't tell them you broke the screen. Wait a week or so and give them a call. They should be able to add it on now as long as you don't tell them it is already broken. Then just go into a att store and tell them you just broke it and have them switch it out for you. If your running a custom rom flash it back to stock now while you can. Or break it completely so it doesn't work at all.

Do what others are saying - get AT&T's insurance, and then get it replaced!
Yeah, it may not be the "right thing" to do, but, COME ON! AT&T makes millions and millions, and tons just off you. Get a little share of that

I recommend a blow torch for these cases.

I would recommend squaretrade insurance myself

International is 4.3" also. Tmobile, Sprint, and Verizon models have 4.5" screens.

I have to second that. Currently using carrier insurance. I was grandfathered in at 4.99. so you figure 4.99 x 12 months. then you times that by 2 because youll have the phone at least two years. which comes out to a total of 119.76. squaretrade is 5 dollars more at 124.
Insurance has gone up to 6.99. so 6.99*24months= 167.76. And square trade is a $99 deductible vs $125 from att..
Edit: upon further review.. squaretrade doesnt cover theft or loss. Att does. I think ill stick with att just in case lol.

Epic 4g Touch or Photon 4G

I'm just posting this as a cautionary tale....
I changed to sprint back in November. I happily picked up the Epic 4G Touch from amazon for 1 penny. I thought i had attained pure android bliss.
i immediately began having problems with phone reception and dropped calls. This was not the LOS issue many have talked about, but just in general poor call quality and integrity. I upgraded modems, changed ROMS, and everything under the sun. I finally gave up after a month and a half and went to the Photon.
Short of it...... Not one dropped call in the last two weeks.
The Samsung screen and camera are amazing, but when it comes down to it, You will most likely be extremely disappointed if you plan to use the phone as a good ole fashioned talk box. Fight the urge, just my opinion.
Anyone want to pay top dollar for my gently used Epic 4g touch? Its finally going to ebay this week.
How much you talking? I don't want it (it's a Samsung!) but maybe my mother?
PM me!
EDIT: Never mind, she already b***hes about her reception!
Are we talking about the Galaxy S2 epic touch? If do how much are you asking for?
I got an upgrade in November and got the Epic 4G touch and was very disappointed. After a week of LOS, dropped calls & random re-boots I returned it to Sprint for a Motorola Photon. I LOVE the MOPHO!!!

yes, Galaxy S 2. I'm probably going to put a buy it now on Ebay for $375. I'd give a discount for straight up purchase, but i've never sold anything through a forum like this.
I just went through the same thing. The Epic 4G Touch is a nice device but it sucks as a phone. The Photon is not quite as nice a device as the Epic but it kicks its ass from the phone standpoint and like you, that was the most important thing to me.
My E4GT is sitting here on my desk looking all dejected. Its going to Craigslist probably tomorrow.
Put it on eBay or Craigslist. Stay away from the XDA marketplace you could get scammed lol.

AT&T replacement phones! Yes or no!

AT&T warranty replacement phones. Good or bad? I paid full price for my galaxy note. Had it for a month and a half. Still having problems connecting to internet on 4 g it freezes up. Now ATT wants to send me a replacement phone. I told them I do not want a refurbished phone through Assurion. This is not an insurance claim. It's a defective phone. What are the odds of my replacement phone actuay working good or bad? I paid full price for my note though getting a replacement. I am pissed off they will not give me a new phone. Anybody have experience with att replacement phones? They said the phone will not cone from assurion insurance. I'll believe it when I get the box.

I had similar issues with my Skyrocket. Went through 2 in a matter of 2 weeks and it was the update that was being pushed. Refused to take a referb phone because it was not my issue. Not the same as your situation, but still same philosophy. This phone is bad out of the box, and they need to replace it with a new item. This isn't your problem that it's defective, and why take someone else's defective garbage? Just keep talking (calmly) to support and get the local/regional managers involved if necessary. Sometimes, local/regional managers are more accepting and accommodating than corporate phone-jockeys. After the second skyrocket, I was offered any phone (except iPhone) and took the note. Also told NOT to send back skyrocket. So I have 2 great phones that once ICS is done for the skyrocket, it'll be a great unit again.
just my $0.02 worth for what it is.

So should I call back and ask for the head of the warranty dept? Or should I go into a corporate store and let them call and speak to a manager? I really don't want someone else's piece of crap that was already broken and fixed.

Be careful what you ask for. You might just get "old" new one that's been laying around.
On my warrantied Samsung Infuse...it was refurbished..same as new...and it ran MUCH better than my prior Infuse. And it was PERFECT condition and I assume newer parts?
I've been there and could not even tell the difference. My "refurbished" Infuse was perfect and ran better than my original "NEW".
Nothing to sweat over.
I just got mine and it looks brand new but it did say it was seed stock on my invoice

yes it was a white note..My old one's power button was no longer clicking and the bottom half would stick...the new one is great seems just as good as the old one and I'm running FJ's base ICS..I got a 3420 quadrant score
I just got a note replacement yesterday. My old note was a month and a half old and it was having problems charging. I got a refurbished one and it seems to run a lot better than my old one. It was in perfect condition and had the "don't text while driving" screen protector and everything. Even came with the stylus. Now I have two styluses.

You also have to remember that refurbished doesn't always mean something was wrong with it. It could be that the person returned the phone because they didn't like it and att can't sell as new anymore.
My sister only buys refurbished to save money, and she has had no issues. I had issues with my brand new note and with my atrix last year. It's just a matter of luck. And asurion is not involved with warranty unless the warranty period is over and you have to file an insurance claim.
Edit: like lildoggs said, they also seem to send a stylus. I kept it and they never charged me anything

When people return their phones within the 30 day period and pay the restocking fee...those phones end up being sold as "refurbished" also. So you might get one that is berely used...or "like" new. My brother did that with his sony xperia and it ended up being pretty much brand new condition one. But it says refurbished. Dont quote me on this but most of the time...AT&T sends out great condition refurbished phones. 9 out of 10 people cant tell a refurb from a new phone
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke

Assurion is a really good company. Returned is not bad, in fact a lot of times it can be better than new.
Is 4g and WiFi connection an issue with the note? Thats one of the reasons I am more than likely returning my hoxl.
Are the notes probed to connectivity issues or is this just a typical defective issue?
Sorry for so many questions. I been playing with the note recently and love it.

yeah mine had the text and driving sticker too and i kept the "spare" spen
I'm so sorry to hear people got defective unit's not good at all
I've had my Note for almost 2 months so far so good no issues as of yet...
I do have ATT Warrinity if I lose it or Drop my device they will replace my device for me I do not know if it will be additional charge...

Insurance

Does any one know how long after buying can we still add Insurance?
I dropped mine yesterday and the screen is just black and there is a very miniscule crack at the bottom right corner. The screen doesn't turn on though so I am stuck. I bought mine on June 23rd and received it on June 25th.
I had it in an Incepio case but it obviusly didn't help, it was first time I ever dropped it. It wasn't even that bad of a drop just from table to floor.
I am wondering if I can add insurance and get it replaced after that.

its usually 30 days after purchase.
I wonder if they will check since mine is rooted lol.
Assuming you mean insurance (warranty is something you get for free and doesn't cover this sort of problem)... Whatever the duration is, I'm sure you're still within the window. But they probably will need to see the device first, since you would probably not be the first person to break their phone within that window. Verizon is a bunch of morons, but when it comes to money-making, they're not going to people do that.
I think your best bet would probably be to try to get third-party insurance, like what is offered by SquareTrade... http://www.squaretrade.com/android-landing1.
Keep in mind, whichever insurance you have, you'll still have to pay a deductible to get a new phone (or get your phone fixed). For squaretrade, it's $99.
EDIT: Ensquared seems to have a cheaper option. Both the up-front cost of the plan as well as the deductible are less expensive: http://www.ensquared.com/catalog/phone-insurance/1-year-phone-insurance-smartphone

The point still stands though... I doubt any of the carriers would be dumb enough to give someone an insurance plan without seeing the phone first. But, since I've never gotten insurance on my own carrier, let alone yours, I can't say for sure.

you are not going to believe this, i thought i would try and get insurance anyways, and after a 5 min conversation with the CS t-mobile dude and him telling me i was over the 14 days for insurance, he gave it to me. I called and reported lost after 2 days and after $130 later i am getting one today delivered at home. I even asked if it would be refurbished or not and lade at Assurion said most likely new since it is so new. Now i have to wait and see.

HAHA, I've bought my last three phones from Costco. I won't go to the Verizon store anymore.
When we bought my Wife's Inc2 we went to Verizon first. They wanted $199 so out of blind luck we checked Costco, they had it on sale for $30! Best part was that Costco only taxes you on the actual price you pay whereas Verizon taxes you on the full retail price regardless of what you pay for the phone. Don't know how that works but its the case in California.
Also, since we are on the subject: If you pay with your Amex card you get an additional 1 year warranty on the phone. Said Inc2 stopped charging after 16 months of ownership. I called Amex and after answering a few questions we get the full $30 +tax credited to my account essentially making the ownership of that phone free. Good stuff.

3rd bad Rezound, Time to upgrade?

Hey guys, cool forums! I joined because I was planning on rooting my Nexus 7 once it gets here, but now I have this problem and I'm wondering if I can get some advice.
I warrantied my first Rezound about a year ago, but I can't remember what it was to be honest For one year I've had some issues, but nothing I needed to warranty it for. I don't do anything on my phone except emails, internet, youtube, and a few apps here or there. A few days ago, my phone froze during mid phone call and wouldn't turn off, so I pulled the battery, put it back in, and it wouldn't turn on or charge. So I warrantied it, and got my replacement Rezound today. Only.... it freezes in like 10-15 seconds when you unlock the phone and try to do anything. No matter what I do, it freezes always when I'm using it, turns off, and turns back on. So I have to warranty this one too, and the next one should get here Friday. On top of that, every single time I went to the verizon store the service desk people gave me an attitude about it.
Only question is, do you think I should keep getting them replaced until I get a good one, sell it on ebay, and upgrade to a new phone? This has honestly been a hassle for me, and I don't want to wait for my phone to break again. So.. what do you guys think? I'm looking at the Galaxy Note 2 and the DNA. If they are leaps and bounds better than the Rezound, it may be worth selling then. I just ordered a Nexus 7, so maybe I'll return if I go with the Note II. I did say before that I only use my phone for a few things, but that is more because of the small size and battery life making it almost incapable of doing so. Lately I've been thinking that getting a tablet will allow me to do more productive things when I'm not on my laptop, but if I get a Note II, maybe I won't need one after all.
Thanks!
If you want to you could try running an ruu assuming that your rezound is still unrooted and locked.

I'm very much a beginner to this kind of stuff, but basically is that installing a new android os over the current one? I thought the freezing has something to do with the hardware. I guess I'll just wait for my replacement to get here first.
Mainly I was just asking if it is worthwhile to hold onto it or sell it and upgrade to a DNA or Note II, assuming they are better phones. I've had nothing but trouble with it so I am biased, I just wanted to get some honest advice. Thanks for your reply
Edit: Also I want to tether my Nexus 7 to my 4G phone (whichever it will be) but I read somewhere that Foxfi has issues with Rezounds. Is this true?

Mainly I was just asking if it is worthwhile to hold onto it or sell it and upgrade to a DNA or Note II, assuming they are better phones. I've had nothing but trouble with it so I am biased, I just wanted to get some honest advice. Thanks for your reply
Edit: Also I want to tether my Nexus 7 to my 4G phone (whichever it will be) but I read somewhere that Foxfi has issues with Rezounds. Is this true?

I have had issues with the Rezound, since March of 2012 I have gone though 8 Rezounds. I finally told them enough is enough, so I picked a different unit. I would give Verizon a call and let them know that we can play this game of you keep sending out Rezounds or give you the option of choosing something different. Do not get me wrong, I loved my Rezound dearly, I just could not do this dance anymore with Verizon. I would not waste your renewal because they send you a faulty unit. And if you sell it you are just sending your headache to another person. Get them to do the right thing to make you happy, you are the paying customer.

What phone did you go to? They're just going to let me walk away with a newer Droid if I complain to them?!

Really? The sales people at the Verizon store I go to (it's actually the biggest, actual Verizon store I know of near me) are incredibly unpolite at times, so I doubt I'd get anywhere with them. Can I call someone instead to do this? Hmm now I got to look at phones again Possibly the Droid Razr Maxx HD for the battery life (since I plan on tethering), but the DNA looks good too (but with the Nexus 7, I think that a phone almost the same size is pointless). What do you think? thanks

Best bet is to call, I had a thunderbolt and went through 7 in 8 months. They will let you change to a "like" device what ever that means. When I switched to the Rezound, I had the choice of a this or a gnex, or another Samsung. Went with the Rezound because they included a extended battery for free.

Thanks guys, I was able to get a (certified) Galaxy S3 instead of another Rezound, but this is through their program (and not new) so we'll see! It's coming Monday.
The only thing I'm pissed about was rep on the phone charged me $80 for the GS3 battery, door, and charger (which doesn't come with the phone), but I guess it's the price I have to pay for pretty much upgrading my old phone.
I'd get a different phone. I've had 7 replacement rezounds sent to me and of all those I had only one good one and that was the second one I got back in February. I started getting replacements because this ones front camera sensor is sketchy. I just decided to keep it though because all the replacements were in much worse condition.

$80 for a $400-$500 phone on ebay used sounds like a good deal to me bro. Plus you're still covered by the Verizon warranty...

He didn't get the phone as an upgrade. If there is nothing wrong with your Rezound don't bother calling in and abusing the system to try to get another device.
Oh quick question guys, because when I replaced previous Rezounds, I left out the battery, micro sd, and sim in the phone I was sending back. Do I do the same for this exchange? I guess I am.

You paid for the battery/back for the GS3 don't see why you wouldn't be able to keep your Rez door/battery and SD.
