Hey guys, cool forums! I joined because I was planning on rooting my Nexus 7 once it gets here, but now I have this problem and I'm wondering if I can get some advice.
I warrantied my first Rezound about a year ago, but I can't remember what it was to be honest For one year I've had some issues, but nothing I needed to warranty it for. I don't do anything on my phone except emails, internet, youtube, and a few apps here or there. A few days ago, my phone froze during mid phone call and wouldn't turn off, so I pulled the battery, put it back in, and it wouldn't turn on or charge. So I warrantied it, and got my replacement Rezound today. Only.... it freezes in like 10-15 seconds when you unlock the phone and try to do anything. No matter what I do, it freezes always when I'm using it, turns off, and turns back on. So I have to warranty this one too, and the next one should get here Friday. On top of that, every single time I went to the verizon store the service desk people gave me an attitude about it.
Only question is, do you think I should keep getting them replaced until I get a good one, sell it on ebay, and upgrade to a new phone? This has honestly been a hassle for me, and I don't want to wait for my phone to break again. So.. what do you guys think? I'm looking at the Galaxy Note 2 and the DNA. If they are leaps and bounds better than the Rezound, it may be worth selling then. I just ordered a Nexus 7, so maybe I'll return if I go with the Note II. I did say before that I only use my phone for a few things, but that is more because of the small size and battery life making it almost incapable of doing so. Lately I've been thinking that getting a tablet will allow me to do more productive things when I'm not on my laptop, but if I get a Note II, maybe I won't need one after all.
Thanks!
If you want to you could try running an ruu assuming that your rezound is still unrooted and locked.

I'm very much a beginner to this kind of stuff, but basically is that installing a new android os over the current one? I thought the freezing has something to do with the hardware. I guess I'll just wait for my replacement to get here first.
Mainly I was just asking if it is worthwhile to hold onto it or sell it and upgrade to a DNA or Note II, assuming they are better phones. I've had nothing but trouble with it so I am biased, I just wanted to get some honest advice. Thanks for your reply
Edit: Also I want to tether my Nexus 7 to my 4G phone (whichever it will be) but I read somewhere that Foxfi has issues with Rezounds. Is this true?

I have had issues with the Rezound, since March of 2012 I have gone though 8 Rezounds. I finally told them enough is enough, so I picked a different unit. I would give Verizon a call and let them know that we can play this game of you keep sending out Rezounds or give you the option of choosing something different. Do not get me wrong, I loved my Rezound dearly, I just could not do this dance anymore with Verizon. I would not waste your renewal because they send you a faulty unit. And if you sell it you are just sending your headache to another person. Get them to do the right thing to make you happy, you are the paying customer.

Really? The sales people at the Verizon store I go to (it's actually the biggest, actual Verizon store I know of near me) are incredibly unpolite at times, so I doubt I'd get anywhere with them. Can I call someone instead to do this? Hmm now I got to look at phones again Possibly the Droid Razr Maxx HD for the battery life (since I plan on tethering), but the DNA looks good too (but with the Nexus 7, I think that a phone almost the same size is pointless). What do you think? thanks

Best bet is to call, I had a thunderbolt and went through 7 in 8 months. They will let you change to a "like" device what ever that means. When I switched to the Rezound, I had the choice of a this or a gnex, or another Samsung. Went with the Rezound because they included a extended battery for free.

Thanks guys, I was able to get a (certified) Galaxy S3 instead of another Rezound, but this is through their program (and not new) so we'll see! It's coming Monday.
The only thing I'm pissed about was rep on the phone charged me $80 for the GS3 battery, door, and charger (which doesn't come with the phone), but I guess it's the price I have to pay for pretty much upgrading my old phone.
I'd get a different phone. I've had 7 replacement rezounds sent to me and of all those I had only one good one and that was the second one I got back in February. I started getting replacements because this ones front camera sensor is sketchy. I just decided to keep it though because all the replacements were in much worse condition.

$80 for a $400-$500 phone on ebay used sounds like a good deal to me bro. Plus you're still covered by the Verizon warranty...

He didn't get the phone as an upgrade. If there is nothing wrong with your Rezound don't bother calling in and abusing the system to try to get another device.
Oh quick question guys, because when I replaced previous Rezounds, I left out the battery, micro sd, and sim in the phone I was sending back. Do I do the same for this exchange? I guess I am.

You paid for the battery/back for the GS3 don't see why you wouldn't be able to keep your Rez door/battery and SD.

So after going through 3 Eris handsets and finally finding a CSR who had enough to sympathy on me to send out an Incredible, I've now gone through 2 of the latter. Both have reboot loop issues, the first wouldn't even go past the quietly brilliant screen while the second can go four hours before deciding not to work for an hour. This is the most frustrating thing I've ever been through. I'm gonna try to talk customer service into a new Inc instead of a refurbished one and see if that changes anything. Otherwise I'm just going to keep the third Eris and steal my moms upgrade in June I guess.
Moral of the story, just because something looks better doesn't mean it always is.

I went through 3 Eris's and I'm on my second D2, which I haven't had any problems with. The refurbs from Verizon are hit and miss, mostly miss. Good luck getting them to send you a new one. I have a feeling your going to have to put up a good fight for that. Hopefully it works out for you though.
Fortunately I've had nothing but good experiences with customer service. I'll ETF my contract if they refuse to help and I'll go to Sprint.

Never had an issue with my original new devices on Verizon, so never had to deal with the refurb. But I'd still take mom's in June and get something hardcore (Like the Merge?)
If the third one coming on Tuesday has the same issue then that's exactly what I'll do.

I was hoping for the Merge as well, but everything that I have seen rumored about it lately says it is going to Alltel. (several sites are posting that the Merge passed FCC yesterday for Alltel) So probably it wont be in your average Verizon store. I was hoping for an HTC device that has something smaller than a the mammoth 4.3 inch screen and the keyboard was something of a bonus to me.
I'll probably be going with an HTC device when I get my upgrade/ get a different carrier. Moto has made me never want to buy another phone from them because of the efuse, and the Evo is awesome....

Hopefully the Bionic will not be locked down, HTCs QC is really beginning to worry me.

Why would they not lock down the bionic after the success they had with the x? Sales and security wise. Locking it down didn't hurt either company. A tier 3 Verizon tech told me not to be surprised if it's businessas usual. They know I'm rooted and "hacked" so I don't care. Time to leave Verizon because they want **** locked down as hard as possible.

I just told the tech lady that after having had 3, I was really not looking to get another one and she just gave it to me, no ifs, ands, or buts. They've already offered to send me an X because of the Inc trouble, but I said I'd give the Inc one more shot, so tomorrow is HTC's last chance to redeem themselves in my eyes.
Hit or miss again... my husband tried it with Verizon and the rep told him Quote: "go ahead." there was no help at all, no "You've been such loyal customer for 10+ years... what can we do to help?", no "Sorry to see you go." nothing, just a basic "Ba-bye!" He is now with Sprint and so far very happy.
This one works! Only problem I've found with it so far is an unexplained lagginess while on the charger, but that I can live with. I wouldn't have had a problem leaving Verizon for Sprint over this issue, it would've been completely unacceptable for them to leave me hanging after all the issues I've had with them, and I would've gladly taken my money elsewhere.
So my phone has been overheating and I called in last week to get another one, they said they will send out one as soon as possible. I was looking at the status email that they sent me and in it there is this blurb:
Get started with your
Certified Like-New
Replacement device.
How are there refurbs for this phone already? I usually don't have a problem with refurbs but since i bought a new phone I am expecting a new phone as replacement . Should I keep the refurb or pester them for a new one?

Because of all those fanboys returning their Rezound to get the Gnex. Also, there were some phones that did have issues (overheating, "pink buttons", data drops, stuck pixels, etc.).
If I were you, I would accept the refurb device and check EVERY single thing on the phone out to find any issues whatsoever. If you do find something, simply call back and explain how upset you are that you have received two defective devices. Maybe then they CSR can get a brand new one sent out to you.
sadly... refurb means someone else has already had their penis on the phone.

The reason I am so crazy paranoid about checking my phone for heat is that I do not want to enter the refurb pool. Did it three times on my Incredible. The refurb pool right now is full of overheating and dead pixel phones.
But the bigger question is WHY you are in the refurb pool. Isn't the deal that phones bought now get an extended period through January 15th?

that is why I'm not too worried. if it don't work better, I will just call VZW and get a brand new one. but sometimes, refurb products work better than new. just gonna test this out for now.

Wow. The phone has only been out a month and they're already talking refurbs? Sucks majorly.
My Incredible lasted 18 months but my daughter went through 3 in the last year.
Dumped down the interwebs from my HTC Rezound
the "Jan 15" extended warrenty only applies to phones purchased from Nov 15+ and only from Verizon stores. If you bought one from Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc... then you just have their warrenty, not the Jan 15 one.(already confirmed with a VZW CSR)
I just got a refurb phone and it's noticeably better. Actually have red LEDs now and the audio, while still somewhat hissy, not near as bad.

I bet when January/February come around there will be enough warrantied phones that htc will make the attempt to fix at least most of the broad spectrum issues in them.

There is no way I would accept a refurb at this point. Where did you buy your phone? You should still be in the 30 day exchange window for places like Best Buy.
Do not settle for a refurb! If you do, the chances of you exchanging in the future for a new one are 1 in a million.
Sent via my HTC Rezound using XDA premium app.
I had 3 rezounds in a row with stuck/dead pixels. For my 4th one I contacted warranty again since they offered to charge a new one to my account since I was out of my 14 day period. So the rep was like oh yeah I see those notes but what I can do for you now is ship you out a Thunderbolt. I'm like really? How is that phone an acceprtable replacement for the Rezound? You guys are giving me a dated device in place of a device that just came out? I was like yeah I'm not going to accept an outdated device to have my DOA phone replaced. Then I asked her so basically what you're telling me is I'm SOL and you guys are like hey! Here's an old phone for the brand new one you just go? She's like uh well I don't want to say it like that... I was like then don't say it, just get me a new rezound shipped out. Ten minutes later brand new Rezound shipped out with no issues besides the occasional audio jack bs. Refurbs aren't too bad the quality has gone up. At this point since the device is so new you'll probably be getting someone's return.
I came to this phone from the charge via refurb and the first one I got had a scratch and the audio problem. However, second one looks like it has never been touched. The screen is perfect and the audio jack is significantly better. The hiss is still there but hardly noticeable at all.

I've owned many android phones in the past, and I agree the locked bootloader sucks. But using the GSM version unbound to any carrier makes it less annoying to me. None of that crappy Verizon bloatware or scripts embedded into the ROM.

Odd, I just went the other direction.
I had a Galaxy Nexus for almost a month and gave up.
The battery life was terrible, the GPS was useless, and the camera was mediocre.
I also get a slightly better 4G signal with the Razr than I did with the gnex.
I'm with you
Hey there, ok now this is a great looking phone I wish Motorola had gone a bit further and perfected the software before releasing this phone. This is the third phone I got that is either defective or the OS has some serious issues. I'm with Rogers and trying to get some kind of resolve with these people is like hitting yourself over the head with a brick. My first phone had random reboot issues, the second just totally bricked out on me nothing worked it just died. This third one not sure if it's software but it totally powered down and rebooted in my hand after pushing the sleep/wake button. The third only did this reboot thing once and I hope that is the only time it's going to do it. The only app I have installed is the Wifi transfer, Pulse, Facebook, Skype. I really would hope that none of these apps is the culprit.
I did get somekind of deal going with Rogers but I will have to buy the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE for $149, they waved some fees and also granted me a one time upgrade deal. I really wish Bell wasn't such a greedy SOB that Rogers should of carried the Nexus but Bell wanted exclusive rights to it, reminds me of Apple and AT&T.
You gotta use caution on ditching a device due to software issues. More important to keep the quality device and be patient and let the software catch up. In the end, an unlocked bootloader won't matter I'd the device doesn't stand up. I think the RAZR wins if you look at it this way. If you're in for the short term though the Nexus will give more play time until the next cool device is announced next week at CES.

Well, I just called Rogers and they are now shipping me a New Samsung Galaxy SII LTE. They told me I can keep my Razr, but now I have two phones, the Razr strangly didn't reboot since then not sure maybe it was an app that was causing the reboots. But how do you use two sim cards on the same number and two phones, hmm...maybe I have to get another service or maybe sell the Razr or something. I'm kind of bummed out because Bell wanted exclusive rights to the Nexus here in Canada so they made Rogers pull all their pre orders before the Holidays. So now I'm stuck in a three year contract so I'm at a loss if they come up with some new devices at 2012 CES, but then we'd still have to wait about a year anyways with Rogers.
Well I gave it another shot, and just today my Razr did the standby death sleep. It just turned it self off after hearing a beep and then vibration it turned itself off for some strange reason. There was no smart action for this but something is causing this strange behaviour. That's it I give up, I think I'll be selling this phone or something maybe I'll customize the hell out of it or something since maybe it could be software related. It's a Rogers XT910 GSM by the way.

Great, now hear the news should of done some reading but they didn't want to extend the offer pass 48 hours so I needed to choose a phone and buy it. The nexus is a nice phone, damnit now I have to wait another 2 years or so. Unless I stop buying stuff and drop like $699 for it on the spot.
I'm able to upgrade from my Thunderbolt to the Rezound for $99 (I can't seem to stomach the 2-yr contract even at that price!). I like my Thunderbolt but I have the itch to upgrade.... I can probably even sell my Thunderbolt on Ebay and make $100 lol. Anybody coming from a Thunderbolt wishing they stuck with the Thunderbolt and waited for a quad-core?
It's head and shoulders better than the Thunderbolt, but you may as well wait. With only two-year contracts these days it's worth the wait.
I've owned both, and I love my Rezound, but I got it as a replacement. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

Did you get your TBolt on a one-year contract? That's probably the problem. They told me they pretty much wouldn't give someone who was about to be off-contract a new phone. They eventually did, but it was awful.

I was only able to because a CS agent ****ed up. Or, rather, did their job, and Verizon claimed they ****ed up, and so I appealed to a higher power.
A Verizon CS promised me a Rezound as a replacement, said it was in the mail, blah blah blah. I called a few hours later when I realized I wasn't sure if had included a battery and back in the package. The nice lady I talked to saw the order for the Rezound and no order for a battery and a backplate. So she ordered that and sent it to me.
Two days later I get two packages. One with the Rezound battery backplate and battery, and one with a Thunderbolt. One of those wtf moments. So I called in, asked what happened, and after hours on the phone they finally determined that the original CS agent was not authorized to give me a Rezound, and so the order had been cancelled, and they just sent me another Thunderbolt, all without telling me. All the while they gave me at least three or four different reasons, the first being that they had never ordered me a Rezound in the first place. So I asked the obvious question of, so why did I get a Rezound battery and backplate?
In the end they wouldn't budge. Only a Thunderbolt for me. No Rezound possible, despite them promising one to me.
I was kinda pissed, so I wrote executive CS an email detailing the situation. They called me, sorted the story out, and shipped me a Rezound.
I think the only reason I got a Rezound was because of their enormous series of ****ups. Without that they probably would have given me the same brush off they gave you. Well, they tried to give it to me. I'm not sure you'll have any luck--my situation was pretty particular.
Ironically I have a very similar issue. The customer service rep lied to me and said there is no other 4G HTC that is any better than mine so my option was to downgrade to a 3G HTC or take another Thunderbolt. I said "what about the rezound?". He told me the screen size was bigger on the Rezound so that is not possible. I responded by correcting him about the size. He said, "Ok fine, I will try to ship you the Rezound and you may have it by Tuesday but it will probably get denied. I will call you tomorrow if that happens". Sure enough, I was on the phone with his supervisor the next day because he never called me (shocker). They basically told me to pound sand in nice words. Eh whatever...

That's weird to me. Because if you're able to upgrade then your contract is coming close to being up and you would be free to go to another carrier. A long time ago on Sprint or Cingular my phone broke when my contract was over and they said they didn't want to give me one for free (I had no insurance or anything) but at the same time they were unable to diagnose what the problem was since it couldn't turn on. So I told them if you can't tell me what's wrong with it and you won't replace it I'll just go get a free phone from another carrier. Within 5 minutes they were giving me a phone. They offered me a particular one and I asked about a different one that was the same price and they let me have that. This was in flip phone days, still it was $100 price on phone.

I'm able to cancel in June... Verizon allows you to upgrade 4 months ahead of contract renewal.
It probably depends on your usage habits. My wife has a year left with the TB, but it's a great phone for her. The Rezound screen and camera are leaps and bounds better, but the battery life and overheating issues make me hesitant to say its a substantially better device.
If you are a power user who will really appreciate the screen and speed, upgrade. Otherwise wait for the next batch of phones that we're sure to see late summer or so. May as well stay on the cutting edge if you have the option!

There will be an HTC One on Verizon soon enough. The MSM8960 SOC supports CDMA and LTE.

Don't take this as a wiseass commnent or anything but...Doesn't the Rezound have GSM hardware? When (other than the iPhone) has a manufacturer retrofitted a phone to work on Verizon?
From my experience and other's, they will pretty much only bulge ONLY if you are still a year or so ahead from the contract being done. People where able to upgrade from a Droid Charge to other 4G devices, same with the Bionic. Im getting my wife her 3rd Droid Charge replacement, it keeps dropping 4G like there's no tomorrow whereas my Rezound is perfectly fine. One more complaint and they guranteed me a different 4G phone.
From reading a bunch of other similar posts like mine, I think I'm gonna make the jump. @ $99 for such a powerful device, I'd probably be crazy for passing it up when it very recently came out

I agree, I do have a feeling the Rezound will stay the best HTC phone on Verizon until the summer and even then still stay relevant.
Don't tell that to Verizon, they did a piss poor job of marketing the phone.

I know Verizon just kept sending me a replacement of the same device and said they couldn't swap out for different devices. I ended up trading my nexus and then getting a maxx.

This. Eventually I complained enough after switching out 3 nexuses and they let me sign a new contract to get a razor maxx.
Complain to CS everyday, and ask them to notate your account with your complaint, and their name. After a week, or so, get a hold of their corporate offices (either through requesting escalation, or getting their number from Google. Escalation is best, cause they have to call you...). Once they see all your complaints, they'll take action. Maybe not the exact action you want, but some sort of compromise...
Somehow, my fiancée gets us everything we want and more using this method...
Persistence is key!
My tab's Flyer than yours (unless this is posted in a Flyer thread, then it's just as Flyer...)!

I called and told them if they had to send me a 5th galaxy nexus to just cancel all 5 of my lines. Suddenly a razr maxx showed up.

It seems to be a **** move to have a perfectly good phone and file fake claims to get a new phone. Did you not research going into your purchase?
I hope I never have to do business with dishonest folks pulling these types of maneuvers.

Perfectly good? Battery is just one of the many problems I have with this phone. The other problems are somewhat bearable but they're still problems. I bought this phone on day 1 off-contract, so that's $650 I believe. Even if that was a stupid idea, what's done is done and the phone is still terrible.

My galaxy nexus was unusable. I have never liked motorola's android offerings but it was my only option as ****ty as my nexus was. I've been on a nexus phone since the Nexus One debuted and I hated to switch. My galaxy rebooted at least 10-20 times a day during phone calls, texts, anything. I couldn't make phone calls half the time because the service would go in and out, and the data speeds were so varied you never knew if you could rely on google navigation or not.
I filed zero fake claims and did my best to make my nexus work. My wife has one and it's just fine but I got a whole slew of bad ones.
What makes you think anyone filed a fake claim? I lost money on the cases and other things I bought for my nexus that I can't use with my RAZR.

I have seen it in other forums, folks taking perfectly good phones and complaining to get another phone.
It sounded like the op didn't like battery life so he was going to file a complaint or two to get a MAXX.
If you did not get what you paid for and agreed to then a fix is warranted.
