My contact list started getting cluttered and occasionally I was seeing duplicate last names. So I decided to clear all my contacts and start from scratch.
I made sure all my contacts are in my Google contact list. Then I removed all the contacts from the phone itself. And removed all the accounts syncing to the contacts except the Google one.
My question is do I need to put back Facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense or just one of them? Same with LinkedIn and LinkedIn for HTC sense, or is this syncing to much data to my contacts causing my issues?

Over the last few days I have completely lost all of my contacts twice. I would really appreciate some advise or a point in the right direction to solving my frustration.
I am running the official HTC ROM version 2.73 and everything was running fine up until two days ago. I originally had all of my contacts stored under 'Phone' as I had a fresh sim card and the rest of my contacts were spread over several accounts (gmail, hotmail, exchange server) and none of my phone numbers were stored electronically.
The first time there was some error message that I did not pay attention to (as they do tend to pop up every now and again) followed by a phone reset and loss of all my contacts and some associated data (call logs but not email or SMS). After attempting and failing to find these numbers I decided to re-enter my contacts but this time save them under 'Google' contacts so they would be backed up to my gmail.
I had just finished re-entering all of my contacts and then all but 30-odd were gone again. This happened following a forced close and reset of the sense UI (as has been happening with increased frequency of late). All of my favourites had also been deleted - leaving me very frustrated! The lost contacts are also not saved in my gmail and many that remain have been duplicated four or five times.
If anyone could advise me on my problem I would be very appreciative
Thanks
David
Do you utilize HTC Sync ?
As I understand, contacts stored in the "Google" Group are automatically synced with contacts in you Google Account ; contacts stored in the "Phone" Group are synced by HTC Sync with contacts in Outlook or Outlook Express on your PC running HTC Sync.
I had installed HTC sync but was yet to untalise it as I did not realise that 'Phone' contacts had anything to do with it. I do not have any contacts stored on my home laptop and therefore whenever a sync was done, zero contacts were synced.
I have changed the setting of my sync from MS Outlook to Windows address book and all of my contacts seem to have reapeared - both phone and google contacts. All of my phone contacts seem to have lost the link with Facebook but I think that may be a recuring problem with Hero users.
Thanks for the suggestion - hopefully now I can sort all of my contacts out!
Weird???
I have never had a problem with Sense UI having to 'force close'
That's very unfortunate, especially as it happened just as you'd input all your contacts again.
I never use HTC Sync personally but if you have all your contact's details - try inputting them into your Google account using a pc. This way they should just sync with your phone automatically, and it's much easier than entering them on your phone!
If the 'force close' issue keeps happening - I would send it back and get a repair done, or a replacement!
Hope this helps,
Dan
My wife uses a Hero.
When she got it we synced it with pc-outlook and got all her contacts and calendar on it.
But while using the hero for several months without paying attention she added new contacts as “gmail” contacts and added new calendar entries as “My Phone”, instead of “PC sync”.
Now none of these new entries can be synced with outlook and what’s worse, if I want to change the rom I don’t have a way to get these new entries back to the phone. I know I can sync the gmail contacts back to the phone but she needs them on her pc as well.
A second problem is that after each outlook sync some of the original outlook contacts are duplicated. Erasing them doesn’t work since after the next sync they all come back. Some are 8-10 times over…
So:
1. How do I sync “gmail” and “My Phone” contacts and calendar with outlook? Can I change them to “Pc sync”?
2. How do I get rid of the duplicates once and for all?
anyone?
anyone?
When I had a BlackBerry, I accidently synched my contacts with Facebook and vice-versa. I remember it as having caused one royal F-up on my phone. I had duplicate contacts, their pictures were jacked up (not the ones that I had used), and Facebook ended up with my entire phonebook on their end.
Does anyone Sync their Facebook contacts on Android, and does it result in the same issues? Would there even be any point to it since my contacts are synched with Google?
Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.
Works great using Facebook for sync. The Facebook for android app won't sync contacts, or at least it didn't work well enough for me when I tried. Lets you link it manually and won't cause a duplicate issue.
I have never had any problems syncing with Facebook for Android or HTC sense.
When Android contacts sync with social networking outlets, they "link". This pretty much means it takes two contacts, the original one and the Facebook one, and puts them together. But not in the sense that they are combined to make one contact, rather, they are paired and appear as one in the contacts app.
In the event that you flash a new ROM, wipe your phone, anything, the link goes away. No messy exchange or consolidation of contacts. Clean and simple.

i found out that the tbolt (maybe sense ) has a feature to link contacts and will do it automagically
Frustration is growing by a second as I researched my issue only finding similar questions raised without much answers...
I'm hoping someone here would be able to help me out on this.
I'm upgrading from a HTC Hero to a Galaxy Nexus. I want to transfer all my contacts from my old HTC to the new phone. I used Google Sync.
I never had the habit of syncing contacts to the PC; hence my GMail contact list was pretty much empty to begin with.
On the HTC, i exported all the contacts into the SD card as VCF file and went to GMail and imported that file into my GMail.
Then, it seems like it only grabbed a portion of the contacts into Gmail but at the same time, deleting most of my phone contacts in my HTC! The contact list on the phone only has facebook contacts and their emails, the phone numbers (not all of them for some very odd reasons) are gone.
In the call history, the caller of past calls had became "Unknown caller" rather than their names.
In the SMS history, the author of the messages had became the phone numbers rather than their names.
I guess I could get some of the phones back by manually figuring out which number belongs to who depending on the content of the texts but it does seem like the numbers lost the linkages to the names after syncing.
Is it possible at all to get my contact list back?
Another thing I tried doing was to use the original HTC Sync. It seems like it did its syncing but where do these contacts go on the PC? I checked Outlook and clicked contacts only to find about 20 contacts in there; my phone list definitely had way more than that.
What is going on...someone please spark me some new years hope...
Hello,
I had my contacts synced and all was dandy. I had some favorites in the widget too.
Now all of a sudden my contacts widget is empty and the only contacts I have on my watch are emails with no phone numbers or names. Sort of like my unwanted contacts list from google or something....
How did this happen and how can I fix this to bring my actual contacts back?
It seems like Gear S pulled in ALL my gmail contacts that I have ever received an email from. You can imagine this is alot... Not ones in my contact list, but anyone who I received an email from. Not sure what made the Gear S sync with my gmail contacts because I don't even have them listed as contacts in my phone or saved anywhere... even google contacts won't show them unless I type it in (which pulls it from gmail I guess)
