Hi guys,
because i have a problem with low mic volume on my Sgs 2 i want to sell my phone,,so i want to ask how to remove how many i flash roms on phone,,
In dowbload mode i see 17 times.
Tnx
Buy a jig... Will remove the number of times flashed by odin...
Please note, however, that there is a rumour floating around samsung has a second counter to see how many times the flash counter has been reset by the jig....

I do not care about the counter.
But if a potential buyer will do, use a JIG as the other senior member has already said.
If you have got the old bootloader, everything will work fine.
If not, you may already have the new bootloader, which prevent the JIG to reset the counter.
Then you will have to flash the old bootloader like described by Intratech here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
Please look at the second post "Official Firmwares", there you will find a red text in a grey box, talking about how to flash the old bootloader with a link to download the needed files.

Hi,
I'm new to Samsung phones (in fact I'll get my SGSII today), but I've been browsing the development forum and in the thread of a rom a guy mentioned that there's a 'custom rom flash count'. Does this mean that the phone counts how many times you flash it and you lose warranty as this count can be checked?
If this is the case, is there a way to reset the count to gain warranty back?
It checks how many time you flash an inofficial firmware from download mode. Yes I think you lose the warranty.
Reset counter: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068522
To reset custom rom count, just buy a JIG dongle on eBay...
http://shop.ebay.fr/?_from=R40&_trk...-All-Categories&_sacat_sel=See-All-Categories
Really easy to use : You switch your SGS2 off, you plug dongle in, it starts your SGS2 to erase custom rom count, it's done !
And it also remove yellow triangle at boot, life is beautiful !
Thank you very much for the help guys

Okay thanks i cant access su or private apps but I got this phone off ebay and I need to make sure it was never rooted. The port is bad and samsung is going to fix it since it is still under warranty. I am not sure it was ever rooted. Is there anyway to tell?
FLASH COUNTER ....what exactly it is??? n why it is increasing every time we flash??? does we really need to care for it?? sorry for newbie quest..
thanks in advance..
It's a counter that tells how much times you've flashed custom stuff. If you have a counter different from zero it means that your warranty is voided. Anyway, you can get a usb jig from ebay to reset the counter to zero in case you need to get it to zero. So you shouldn't worry too much about it.
thanx bro...i was just wondering what is the limit of flashing ??? i mean at the max i can flash upto this much times...
It counts the number if times you flash non-official firmware or kernel etc.
It increases only when you flash a non-official firmware or kernel etc.
You don't really need to care for it. Unless you find your phone bricked one day and there is no way of reviving it and you decide to go to samsung service center and he says get lost you have installed non-official firmware.
This involves bricking the phone (not likely unless you actually decide not to read and do something foolish) samsung galaxy series is one of the less likely phone to be bricked.
This involves you actually going to the service center you may as well read more on the forums here and there will be a solution to your problem.
This involves the person in the service center to know that he is not to accept phones flashed with non-official firmware. If more people read and flash then less bricked phones, then less trips to service center, then less chances the technician knows this.
So moral of the story read more and stop asking things that are already explained like what is flash counter.
I don't believe there's a limit. The counter will just keeping adding up untill you reset it (if you do reset it)
you can flash 1 million times.
hmmm...got it..thanx for quick replies friends...
Suspecting the counter is a signed integer, there will be absolutely NO problems up to 2,147,483,647 flashes.
After that it'll either still be fine until 4,294,967,295 flashes (if the "signed" assumption was wrong) or just overflow and show funny stuff like "Custom Binaries: -1" or reset back to zero by itself.

you are really not giving a lot of details here...all you are saying you tried installing a rom and then it froze halfway..
Are you rooted firstly?
If you are have you flashed CF-root kernel?
How did you try to install the rom?
More info and then more people can help you out buddy..see if you can get into recovery and restart your phone.
well... if you've tried "every" (its not like there are a lot) button combination... then just go buy a jig from ebay and force it into download mode...

Nothing from what you said would help..
He obviously flashed it with Odin, and he said he's getting a yellow triangle with a computer behind it..
From what I understood, he could get into download mode.
So just boot into download mode and flash stock ROM. That should do it.

anyone else seeing an increase in the "i bricked my phone" threads?
dont think its coincidence they are increasing after the american variants have been released. People need to check what model they have before flashing things.
OP: not saying thats what has happened to you as you dont say if you have the i9100 or not, hopefully you do.

its ok and same goes by my post as well buddy..we all been in his position one way or the other
1st - Your phone is not bricked if it show an image. Whatever image it is. The only real software way to brick your phone is to flash bad bootloader or stop a bootloader while they are being flashed. However, Bootloader are flashed first. So if your phone stoped half way, you should not have trouble too much.
Remove the battery from your phone for like a minute, then reboot your phone in download mode (vol- + home + power and when the phone light up, release power.) Then flash another rom from odin.
Also, what rom did you used ? If you flashed a rom for another phone, then you might have flashed bootloader for that phone on yours, which is bad. In this case you will surely need a JIG.
sorry im new to this whole rooting/flashing thing. i downloaded the lightning rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
i have never rooted or doneanthing to my s2 before. all i did was follow the instructions on the page and thought it would be all good? it froze about a quarter of the way there in odin so i just took my phone out.
I usually find from this state I can get back to bootloader or download states
push and hold vol+ and home then power for bootloader
push and hold vol- and home then power for download
sometimes the phone can seem to freeze a little or even die (this happened to me loads on the galaxy s and once already on the s2) and removing battery sim etc or attaching the charger can jog it
however as other have said a JIG is your friend if for no other reason that even if you recover without it, custom roms up the rom count which some twitchy carriers might invalidate your warranty for, the jig will reset this
you can get them from ebay for less than £3 delivered, or there are instructions on this site for making them yourself if you are so inclined.
simply search 'galaxy s2 jig' on ebay mine was delivered today from portugal as I am way too lazy to make one and only wanted a counter reset anyway
hey guys,, is there any solution to reset custom counter softly without usb jig??

Jigs are crazy cheap on ebay. I got one for < $3.
so, where is the software using in usb jig,, which we can use without using jig
Nope. Probably never will be.
Edit to add - There is no "software using in usb jig which we can use without using jig". You switch the phone off, plug the jig in the usb port on the phone & it resets the flash counter/changes Custom Binary Download to "no" & changes the Custom Binary to "Samsung Official" when the phone is in download mode. No software required.
Do a search on eBay for "Samsung Galaxy S2 jig" (without the "").
does it cancel the warranty? if I go to Samsung services and my cus. counter counted 1 unofficial ROM??

Search. Read.
No.
EDIT: No. If you need it, you already voided your warranty. The jig is a tool to get your phone back to the state where your warranty is still intact. You could find that yourself, if you used the 'Search' button and read the threads you find there. Or hell, Google even. Seriously, XDA isn't a place for this kind of crap.
The information is in the forums, if you want it->READ THE FORUMS.
If you go to Samsung service, and they see that your custom counter is set to 1 then your warranty is void. The jig resets this counter to 0.
The moment you flash custom roms or kernels on your phone you void your warranty, yes. And yes, if they see the counter at 1 or showing anything other than Samsung Official in download mode, they more than likely will not fix it under warranty.
However if you are able to put stock firmware back on your phone, get rid of any apps that might give whomever fixes it a clue that you've rooted it, and use a jig to reset the flash counter, there's a fair chance (not 100% tho mind you) you might be able to have it fixed under warranty.
To be perfectly honest, if you want to have a 100% chance of having anything that goes wrong with the phone fixed under warranty, do not put custom firmware on your phone. At all. Ever.
in case of me, I bought it from someone on ebay and did not know that till today
Hello everyone,
I've just bricked my S2.
It won't start at all.
I've flashed I9100XXLP1_I9100OXALP1_OXA and tried to root it with cf-root-sgs2_xx_oxa_ki3-v4.1-cwm4
After the root it won't start up, it was showing SAMSUNG and the yellow triangle with a ! in it.
I've tried to re flash the XXLP1 and it won't start flashing, so I pulled the data cable.
And now it won't start.
PLS HEEEELP!!!
I'm from Romania, maybe someone from Bucharest can help me.
It is not mine, and the owner is anxious to see it, I just wanted to help her unlock it, and..... (
pls help!!
thx a lot!!!
try a usb jig but seems like its a complete brick if it will not turn, needs jtagging by the sounds of it,
can you go into download mod? flash stock firmware in download mod via odin by press volume down +home button + power.

1) You didn't read instructions... Why would you try to root a XXLP1 >> ICS << Rom with a KI3 >> Gingerbread << CF-Root ? It states in Chainfire's thread to find the matching letters and root it with the corresponding kernel... You DIDN'T bother to read.
2) Like the poster above said, try entering download mode, and flashing stock ROM again... If you can't, read >> 4)
3) You can try with a USB Jig, though i doubt it will help...
4) Seems like it's completely bricked, probably will need jtag repair, or maybe you can get lucky with warranty + samsung repair service
5) Learn to read...

@gr4ndm4st3r_bl4ck
yes, my bad
do you think that if I send it back from where I bought it and lie them that it didn't start at all, and that I didn't do anything they will replace it?
it is worth it to try or they will figure it out?
thanks
You could send it into your carrier/Samsung for repair & they might repair it anyway, but there's a much greater chance they'll charge you for it.
A jig is very unlikely to work, but for the sake of a few dollars is worth a try.
Do a search for JTAG repair on here/Google (here's one to get you started). This will probably be cheaper than having it repaired by Samsung/whomever does their repairs in your country.
Which option you choose is obviously up to you.
As MistahBungle said, you could try taking it to samsung and they might repair it under warranty,no questions asked...then again, they could charge you more likely than not... If that happened to me I would take the phone to samsung as i don't trust those shady guys doing jtag repairs... they fu** something up, you lose warranty, you get left without a phone...my 2 cents
