After a search I did not find anything specific to the S2.
I have read a lot over the past week but something I have not found is, if I switch to the ClockWorkMod Recovery is it possible to revert back to the original samsung recovery I currently have?
Thanks
Yes.
Just flash an original Samsung stock kernel again, and you're back on the original recovery as well.
Excellent.
Much appreciated HellcatDroid.

I am currently learning and experimenting with rooting, custom roms etc.
Wondered if someone that knows more than me can help me with a few questions I have?
I have rooted my GS2 using CF Root XWKI8 kernel on Odin. I have full root access now and I have made a backup of my factory ROM which is Three firmware.
The questions I have are:
1) How do I remove root access if I need to? Would that be by putting the original kernel back on?
2) Some people have said you can remove the yellow warning triangle by re-loading the original kernel but would that remove the root access if this is how you unroot a CF rooted phone?
3) I am thinking about loading CM7 on the phone using clockword mod. When you load up a new firmware does it have its own kernel that is then put on the phone?
4) If after loading up CM7 onto the phone I then decide to restore the original Three firmware using clockwork mod, what kernel would go back onto the phone? Would it be the CF rooted kernel as that would have been the current kernel when I performed the backup?
Its important to me that I understand everything completely before I play about anymore!
Many Thanks
Dave
1) You can flash a Stock Kernel with Odin to remove root.
2) To remove the yellow warning you first flash a rooted kernel (such as CF-Root), then you flash a Stock Kernel and when it reboots, you use CWM Manager to flash the image kernel from there. That way you keep root and CWM, but the yellow warning doesn't appear any more.
3) Many ROMs have their custom kernel in the same package, so it will overwrite your current kernel. All custom ROMs have a rooted kernel, so despite changing the kernel, you will still have root and CWM.
4) If you did a nandroid backup, you could restore the kernel from which the nandroid was done. If you don't have a nandroid backup, you can flash a Stock ROM to leave the phone as you bought it.
Many thanks for your help.
As I first of all rooted my phone using a CF Root kernel and then did a nandroid backup in clockwork mod of the Three firmware. Would the backup now include the CF Root kernel when I restore from CM7 back to Three firmware or would the original kernel still reside within my Three backup and be restored instead?
If you have the European Galaxy S II (I9100) can you use the CM7 stable build thats on the official CM website or do we need to find one within the dev section here? Anyone know please?
@DJGREEN1980: Since you've done your nandroid backup with CF-Root, when you restore it you will have CF-Root again. If you want to revert CM7 to Stock you can directly flash a Stock ROM, instead of restoring your nandroid backup.
@mikeDCMDVA: There are only 2 versions of CM7 for SGS2. One is for AT&T mobiles and the other is for the rest, so you should be able to flash this last one on your phone. If you have further questions about CM7 I would suggest you post them on CM7 post on XDA or CM7 forum, since CM7 users would surelly have more knowledge than me about that.
Do you know where I would get the stock rom from? My phone is locked and branded with Three firmware.
Thanks for your help
There's a post with all stock ROMs up to date here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Brilliant. Thanks. So restoring to the latest Three rom XWKI8 would bring the warranty back for the phone after using a custom rom?

Its not that it will bring the warranty back, its more that you could send it to Samsung Support without them noticing you've used a custom ROM. I recently send my HTC Desire to HTC support reverting it to a Stock ROM without problems.

Hi everyone,
Pardon me if I'm asking in the wrong place, this is my first thread.
I just bought Samsung Galaxy Young CDMA SCH i509 and successfully rooted it. I'm looking everywhere for any custom recovery like CWM or RZ to Nandroid backup my phone so I can safely start tinkering with it. Although lately I found a CWM custom recovery that is said to be compatible with my device, but when I tried to Nandroid backup it made some installed applications disappear. And when I roll back backed up image to verify the result, it made my phone boot in infinite loop.
My question is:
since I can't find any working recovery for my device, is it possible to just unpack another Samsung Galaxy recovery.img and edit some files in there or do I have to compile it from scratch? Because I'm tempted to just edit it but I don't know its partition layout and anything

I suppose maybe you should focus on the bootloop first? I don't know an answer though. Sorry.
Did I helped you? Click the THANKS button! My Galaxy Mini would like it, just like I do!
Hi all.
The usb connector broke on my galasy s2 and had to take it to service.
All i asked them not to change my 4.04 version. But they did it anyway! Jeesh!
They put the 4.12 on it, which doesnt suit me.
Is there a way to get 4.04 back?
Can i just flash my previous 4.04 back with odin?
Or use stock recovery or CWM recovery to install the whole package?
When i had 4.04 i did a full backup with CWM recovery, but the file size is so small so it cannot contain the whole OS.
I come from Nokia world where downgrading was not possible so thats why im asking before trying things on my own and breaking it.
Please help.
Thank you.
Yes you can use Odin to go back to 4.0.4......but I'd advise you go to 4.0.3 instead.......4.0.4 stock firmwares are affected by the emmc brickbug which has turned *some* S2s into irrecoverable paperweights.
Whether your phone is one of them or not.....I don't know (you can check this)
For the firmware, go to www.sammobile.com/firmwares to find the correct firmware for your phone/carrier, download, unzip to tar and flash via Odin......simples
sent from either my Alliance powered S2 or my ArcoCM powered W via XDA Developers App
Find which variant you have first. Go to about phone in settings and see if you have I9100G or I9100, if you have I9100G we have all stock firmwares on our development forum, i advise you to go there, i don't know if our variant has emmc brickbug but you can search it.
Thank you for the replies.
I once ran the emmc brick bug check and it said i dont have the bug
My phone is I9100.
Is there anything i need to know about odin, or just connect, click PDA, choose the Firmware and hit start?
I downloaded the correct stock FW from sammobile.
Thanks again.

Yes, if you get bootloop wipe data from recovery.
Just to report back.
I flashed the old 4.04 stock firmware with odin.
Flashing went fine, but when rebooting the phone got stuck at the samsung logo and didnt go further.
Removed battery, put it back, booted stock recovery and wiped everything and phone worked.
So all went just great :=)
This was my first android flash and after this success i might wanna concider some custom ROM:s like cyanogen, but thats another story.
Thanks for the tips peeps.
I've beeing trying to change my ROM. I'm trying to install Clockworks recovery and it doesn't work. I've tried using Rom Manager, EZ recovery and doing it manually. Each time it just goes into the default recovery. I've also tried twrp. Any help?
GT-I9200T
Andriod version: 4.1.2
I assume you mean you have an I9100T ?
1) The reason your recovery isn't sticking after you reboot is because recovery is 'baked' into the kernel on the I9100, so any recovery flashed independently will only persist until the next reboot.
2) Do not use Rom Manager with the I9100. At all. Ever.. Eventually, it will break recovery & cause your phone to reboot. The only fix is to flash stock via Odin & do a factory reset. And as most people here don't make regular backup, it sucks to be you in this situation because you lose your data.
3) Easiest way to get CWM that will stick is to flash a custom kernel; you have several options, a search will reveal your choices (PhilZ seems to be what many people use these days for simplicity's sake). From there you can then flash whatever custom rom (or kernel) you want.
If you don't have an I9100, clarify exactly what you have & we'll organise mods to move your thread.

Sorry, I've got a 19100T. My bad. As for losing data I don't mind, I've got my contacts backed up and that's all I need. It seems PhiZ is only for Galaxy S4's. :crying:
Also what about Rom Toolbox? Will that be bad aswell?

No, PhilZ is not only for Galaxy S4's. The S4 version is a recovery only, as the partition layout on the I95x phones is different (kernel & recovery are separate). PhilZ for the I9100 is a kernel with recovery built into it.
You should be able to find the thread easily; I found it in 2.3 seconds with a Google search 'I9100 PhilZ XDA' at top of results. As to which file to use, you need to take the time to read the thread to work that out for yourself. Failure to read/learn before doing leads to busted phones.

When finding the Kernel code, I type in getprop in terminal. I see stuff like the build number but I can't find the Kernel code anywhere. The only thing I see that is related to Kernel is ro.kernel.qemu: [0]
What are you doing in terminal ? You're overthinking this. I realise it's in the thread, but that's completely unnecessary nonsense
Phone settings/about device - build number.
My final post to this thread. You're on your own.
Alright! Everything's working now. Thanks for the help.
Hi All... help...
I have a Note3 SM-N9005 which is rooted. I have been trying to get CWM installed.
I started by using ROM Manager and this just didnt work at all - the recovery partition stayed stock.
So I downloaded the Samsung Note 3 (International) recovery image (6.0.4.6) (non-touch) from https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager.
I used Cygwin to convert to a .tar file and then flashed to PDA using Odin.
All looked OK and Odin passed the install - however when I tried to reboot into recovery my Note3 just gets stuck in a boot loop - the only way I could get it working again was to re-flash using Odin and when it reboots it starts and works normally - but if I reboot into recovery mode it just keeps re-booting!!
Any thoughts on how to fix this or whether the best option is to flash a whole ROM with CWM already packed? Alternatively - any ideas on where I can get a CWM file which will work on my Note3?
Also - now this has started getting messy, any advice on backing up EFS (just in case )
Thanks in advance
So you reflashed the whole stock firmware via Odin and recovery still isn't working? Very strange. Rom Manager sucks and has for years now. Why didn't you just grab either CWM or TWRP (which I find way better for most phones) from the subforum for your phone here on Xda?

Hi es0tericcha0s
Thanks - TBH I have only just replaced my S4 with the Note3 and just set everything up - so didnt want to reflash with a custom ROM so followed the instructions for installing CWM... and failed I did install TWRP a while ago and couldnt really get on with it - if you think it is better I might reflash the whole phone with a new ROM and give it a go.
I think I did download a CWM img file from here and when I flashed it to PDA the phone wouldnt boot at all - from memory I am sure it came up saying it couldnt boot and enetered "Odin mode"... I will have to back up my important stuff and try again tonight.
Any recommendations on a good ROM to play with? Need a stable product ideally as I dont get much time to play
Thanks
I would just restore the entire phone with the stock firmware file and start fresh. TWRP here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494245 As far as roms, I haven't played with the international Note 3 in awhile, but I typically recommend stock based roms for less potential issues (I personally prefer CM based roms, but I have more time and experience with dealing with possible problems than most). I would take a look at AllianceRom if you want to customize a lot on stock based http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2571255 or Omega http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470441
As always, you should read through some of the stuff other active users are saying about it to make sure it fits your needs, but those development teams support a lot of Samsung devices and usually provide solid updates.

Thanks es0tericcha0s - I downloaded the TWRP tar and flashed to PDA - all worked first time... I will give it a go and see how I get on, when I get more time I will do a clean flash too!
Good deal. Lemme know if you need anything else.
