(Q) what's the best aux cable to use from phone to car any suggestions?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Any thick & properly shielded cable will do, and if you're paying more than $5 for it you're being taken for a fool... www.monoprice.com imo
I, too, have been looking for a new Aux cable... I currently have a "monster" brand aux cable I received as a gift and when I had my iPhone it worked fine but w/ the EEEVVVOOO if I am charging the phone while playing music (say, in my car) there's a very noticeable and VERY annoying high-pitched static.
No cable's gonna fix that...

Really? I had the EXACT issue w/ my iPhone 4 and the higher-quality cable fixed it with that. Is the electric interference just overly high on this phone?
Hmm, Monster cables are usually terribly overpriced but they're usually decent, I figured it'd be unlikely other cables would make a difference. I haven't had an issue connecting my phone to cars, docks, etc. Without hearing the exact nature of the sound it's hard to say what's at fault, just don't spend more than $10 on a new cable as they're not worth more.
If you guys go to radio shack, you can build your own. Get the proper cable length and the correct male headphone connectors for each side. And your done.
I've had great experiences with monster cables. If you can find one at a good price. Good thing I work at best buy. Haha

I bought a Fosmon HDMI cable from Amazon and it never worked with the tablet (ICS .14/5v). No sound, no video with 3 different TV Sets (Sony, Samsung and Sanyo)
Which brands does indeed work in your experience?
Brand will make absolutely no difference in terms of whether the cable should work or not. It's either a bad cable (better brands will be less likely to be bad, but even the highest end brand gets an occasional bad cable) or a problem with your prime. Theoretically it could be a problem with the display but since you tried with 3 different ones that's HIGHLY unlikely. Every micro HDMI cable no matter the manufacturer will be the same not counting production/QC problems.
In terms of brands that more likely will have lower failure rates, just pulling up the amazon list of micro HDMI cables available here are a few that I recognize:
Belkin
HTC
Monster
PNY
Rocketfish
Samsung
Tripp Lite
Yeah you'll probably pay more than $3 for the cables they sell, and the next $3 Fosmon is probably at worst only 25% more likely to be bad than one of them, so you can roll the dice and try with another Fosmon or try a more established brand and hope with your odds better you don't get unlucky again.
Monoprice cables work just fine. I have my entire home theater and all my families setups running off of them. Had at least 20 of their cables and never a bad one. I use this one for my prime:
http://www.monoprice.com/mobile/Pro...Id=102&categoryId=10253&subCategoryId=1025301
what are you using hdmi for?
Just curious, what is the (your) purpose of using the hdmi out? I don't see a lot of usage for it, but perhaps I am missing something?

Watching movies on a big screen, playing games on a big screen, giving presentations on a big screen.
Imagine your prime as a portable game console or movie player you can plug into any hotel TV. And of course it's just like using a laptop to project a presentation at a business meeting. Yeah you can watch movies and play games on the prime itself but it's nice to be able to throw it up on the 50 inch TV, sit on the couch and play a racing game or whatever.
Monoprice is one of the cheaper cable providers but I have also had fairly good luck with them. I do AV installations as my business and I've used hundreds of them for low cost jobs where I have to hit very aggressive budgets and have had failures but only maybe 10% or so (which is still crazy high for the industry average) and in fairness to them they replace them quickly and without fuss. Digital cables don't have any quality issues beyond the signal gets through reliably or not; once the signal gets through you can literally use a wire hanger bent straight and get the same exact quality as a $5000 monster cable. So I'd feel safe using a Monoprice cable for a digital signal (HDMI, digital coax, optical) but I would recommend not using them for analog signals (RCA, speaker wire, etc). Also since often shipping is more than the cable itself (this micro HDMI cable is actually pretty expensive compared to their normal prices) I normally get a few of whatever I'm ordering to make sure a single bad cable doesn't hold me up.
I use the cord that came with my atrix, works with my 32" LG TV

At my college they only have VGA on the projectors unless we hang from the ceilings, is it better to get the micro HDMI to VGA or just get the micro to full HDMI and just use adapters to get to VGA?

Hey all,
I recently got the official Samsung car dock for our phones but am having issues charging it through the cig lighter. Everytime I plug it into the phone, I blow the fuse for the lighter in my car. I've tried different plug-in sequences (like turn on the car first, then plug it in, then plug in the phone, etc.) to no avail. I've probably gone through about 3 fuses so far.
Since I have a custom stereo installed that I installed myself, I figured I borked up some wiring. However, today I tried to plug it into my wife's car (stock stereo) and immediately blew her fuse, too.
So, before I call and complain to Samsung, does anyone else have this issue? Could this have to do with a bug in CM9? (running the nightlies)
Thanks!
Sounds like something is shorting out internally on the charging dock. Do you have a multimeter? You could check continuity between the negative prongs(ones on the side of cigarette plug) and the positive prong(one on the end of the cigarette plug).

Yeah I do have one. What will I be looking for with that test? I got the multimeter for Xmas a while ago but have never really used it.

Why test?
There is no reason to test, it is 100% the dock's wiring. Just return it, I have had similar issues with other car stuff, like an xm radio dock. Just take it back, don't waste anymore time with it.
Well sure enough I did do a continuity and there is no continuity. I'll be returning it to AT&T. Here's hoping the store will exchange it for me even though I ordered it online. All I need is the cig lighter... the actual dock works perfectly

Charger
I also have the same problem as the op. In metering it, it does seem to be shorted. I haven't blown any fuses but the light on the charger goes out and it looks to be shorted. I got a replacement and it does the exact same thing. I torn the one charger apart and couldn't fine anything wrong that I understood. To get it apart I pretty much broke all of the plastic but the circuit board came out OK. I tried to use a razor blade and scribe around the joint. Just would not come apart. I tried to email Samsung and got no answer. I've just gone on and used another charger that works. It sure appears that there is a problem with a lot of them. I'd like to see it fixed but?
superdog404
If you're sure it's not a short you can put in a larger fuse into your car just an increase of 5 should help you also have to think how much power the phones may be pulling and the cars not being made to charge a smart phone

Has anyone found an MHL Extension?
I'm looking to hook up my Rezound to my car's screen as opposed to using a car mount. I found this in another thread which seems like it should be able to get the job done:
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Adaptor-Jetstream-Tablets-Package/dp/B005LSOPN4
The problem is, the cable length looks to be microscopic. If my car's screen is just a display, then I will need to access my phone's touch screen so I'll need some sort of extension (will be nice to see Google Music or Maps there for road trips). I want to hide the equipment in a compartment underneath the arm rest, so if I can do this with 1 cable coming out of the phone, it would be ideal; I probably won't bother if I need to have 3 cables hanging out of my phone.
I can't seem to find an extension anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas?

You don't need an extension. It just converts your micro usb to an hdmi out. You just need a 3-4 foot long hdmi cable. Assuming your headunit is hdmi compatible. Which I doubt it is, I know mine isn't and I have to use an hdmi to rca converter from there.

From my understanding, that won't work. It actually outputs an analog signal over usb, where the rez outputs a digital signal. You're more than welcome to try it, but others have reported it not working on other MHL phones.

Thanks for the suggestion.
The problem is that from what I read, the HDMI out gives audio that isn't all that great. Also, I'm looking to have a setup where I can just plug in a single cable and be good to go.
With a longer HDMI cable, I'd have this bulky converter, a bulky HDMI cable, and another cable coming out of the compartment to provide power to the device. Very messy.
If I can get an extension, I can just pull a single cable which will act as a charger, audio out, and video out. Much cleaner .

I agree. This is basically what I've read.
----------------------------------------------------------------
After doing tons of research, I don't think a passthrough - extension cable exists. Even if one did, it would have to come directly from HTC because the dongle I linked above is a custom 12 pin connection used. It looks like the Rezound has all pins, which is why, in the above post I linked, the user was able to get the extra audio port working.
I think what I'm going to need to do is pick up this cable, splice the dongle cable, and extend it using the bulk of the OEM flyer cable.
Let me know how it works for you, because that would be a lot easier than my current setup. Mine goes MHL----HDMI----ANALOG(RCA) CONVERTER-----INDASH.

If I go through with it, I will. I purchased the SGSIII for my wife (to upgrade her to 4G so she can keep unlimited data) with the hope she'll be willing to swap and take the Rezound. She kind of likes Sense, and I want CM9 (which is already on the SGSIII).
If she wants to keep the SGSIII, then I probably will do this. I'll still need a converter, but bing able to keep all that hidden away in the center console compartment out of sight would be completely awesome.
In something a bit unrelated, the SGS III uses a custom coverter, so I'll need to "extend" that in a similar fashion as well.
I will say this though, the clarity compared to the phones screen on any of these indash monitors SUCKS. I almost like just attaching my View 4g to the dash and using that over the indash monitors. But it is nice having that larger 7 in screen sometimes.

Did you ever find a way to hide your MHL adapter away from the phone, and just extend the 5 or 11-pin connection to the phone? I tried the older 5-pin MHL adapter with the 11-pin to 5-pin adapter tip for my SGSIII and it works. However, when I tried to use a standard micro-USB female to male extension cable (www .amazon.com/Micro-B-Female-Extension-Manhattan-307420/dp/B007TLEDTW) between the tip and the MHL adapter, it wouldn't pass any video or audio.
Hi guys. This is what i use as an FM transmitter for my Galaxy and Vortex in my car. If you see on the picture there is an iphone charger included on the phoneholder. I was wondering if there is something that has micro usb charger instead of the iphone charger.
Any help would be appreciated.

Why's it gotta be with a BUILT-IN microUSB? Why can't you use the cable that came with your phone? I'd go with the link I posted in a heartbeat. Sure, you'd need to sacrifice a microUSB cable, but the 2.5mm is built-in. It's also $10.50 free 2day ship. I'm checking out my cart as we speak.

I have one already with the built in iPhone charger..And I paid like 8 bucks a year ago.the reason why I want with built in microusb is my iPod charges and at the same time transmits my music through FM channel. I also don't have to carry aux jack to listen to my music since its plays my music via FM station. I don't have to carry my iPod charger to charge.
I was wondering if I could do the same with my Galaxy and Vortex.
You have to remember iPhones are not the same style phones as ours. Yes they have a headphone jack but there charger is meant to transfer data to play music while ours is just PC to phone and charge I doubt its designed to out put any type of audio through the charging port. The one I linked is all built in but the price is a tad high. You'll have to choose what will work best but like I said an iPhone style dock is going to be impossible I think

Best FM Transmitter ever
I just found this on WOWparts.com for only $10.68. It is way better than I have expected for the price. The transmitter is compatible with USB, 3.5 mm and even the SD card. Easy to handle. I drive a lot and this transmitter has made the driving less boring with music. Highly recommend for everyone.
I had no idea so many people still used FM transmitters.
With the news of XBMC coming to Android I feel I gotta invest in one of these cables hahaha. Anyone test any out yet? I see a bunch on amazon but I'd like to hear from someone who has the same phone.

YES.
According to the description on the monoprice site, the adapter has a micro-USB charging port on the side of the adapter.
I bought this one from Amazon since I have prime:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006V7F380/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
I have to have the regular usb power cable plugged into it for it to work with my TV and that charges my phone.
So it can also function as a 6ft power extender for charging if you don't use the HDMI part.
Happy with it for the price.
I have the HTC MHL adapter and I'm getting CRAZY lag when I play video games. I'm thinking it's sense, but I'm hoping it's the adapter.
Can any of the guys who bought an MHL cable try playing an nes/snes/genesis emulator while plugged in to the TV?
ya I'm getting a bunch of lag while playing HD video and audio cutting out with the Monoprice
update: seems that was a player issue? Was using MX player. Now I'm using Dice and and no lag.

Anyone knows if those cables work on AOSP roms (cm10)?
