Hi there,
I installed CM7 but then messed around with SetCpu too much and got boot loops so had to install the Drowning child kernal.
So I have big data issues with that one so I want to revert back to the original CM7.1 kernal for the aria.
Can I do this without loosing all my data? If so, where do i get it from?
Flashing the CM7 ROM again (without clearing anything) will revert you to the original kernel.
It's always a good/safe habit to create Nandroid backups before preforming ANY major updates.

I tried finding someone with my particular problem but I couldn't so I apologize in advance if this has been posted before.
I tried out MIUI V5 today and I cannot restore back to my SC2.9 Voodoo.
When it boots everything and it's brother force closes over and over again.
I noticed that this is a problem people get when trying to restore back to a NON Voodoo rom.
But as far as I can tell the MIUI v5 runs on a Voodoo kernel and I was trying to restore back to a Voodoo rom.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

What is the status of your phone at this moment? is it still in FC hell or did you go back to MIUI without FC?
MIUI does indeed have a voodoo kernel. Make sure the super clean rom you are flashing IS INDEED VOODOO. are you flashing a nandroid backup to restore to SC 2.9? Nandroid backups ignore voodoo from what i vaguely remember (I never use nandroid backup, maybe im wrong), so maybe that is your problem.
However if you are 100% sure your SC rom is voodoo and is not being flashed through nandroid, your problem is probably that you need to wipe data/cache/dalvik-cache before you flash superclean.
I was restoring a backup, which I am assuming was that problem. I just wiped and installed. *sigh* Thank you though
Hey guys! I'm having a problem with restoring the back up via CWM. My fascinate is running DL30 froyo and now I want to go back to EA28 (previously backed up EA28 via nandroid). What happens is I don't have any problem restoring the back up file(EA28). Then after restoring process is completed, the phone stucks on the SAMSUNG logo(I hear the booting sounds though, typical). Well I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Could it because I'm trying to restore a different kernel or so? Let me know guys! Thank you!
I have a stock G-tablet and want to flash a new rom for the first time. I have rooted/flashed CM on my phone, but have some questions before I do it. I did the OTA update when i first started my tablet. It is 3588 Edition now.
Do i need to nuke it before i try to install CW.8 and flash Vegan-GE? Or should i install CW .8 and Clear cache, wipe data and install the rom?
Do i need to do the CW partition?
Can I do a CW backup of the stock rom so i can just flash back to that point?
Would you suggest going to GE or tab-5.1.1? I have read through all 72 pages on the dev. section and it seems like most of the problems are minor and hopefully can be resolved in time (mainly video issues)
Would you suggest flashing the pershoots OC kernel or just using the default GE kernal? There weren't too many posts about the OC kernel just a few saying that the tablet benchmarked incredibly high.
Is it possible to flash the CM7 rom over MIUI if I wipe data/cache/dalvik? Also, is it possible to SBF to 2.3.4 and just back that up for future flashes that require SBFing or does it have to be a fresh SBF install?
You can flash safely over MIUI after wiping data, cache and dalvik. If you want a stock backup, you can first, be on stock 2.3.4, then backup using the bootstrap recovery. Then you can always restore that backup if you want to get back to stock. The same can be done with CM7 and MIUI if you'd like.
EDIT: And SBF'ing usually means you cant get your phone to turn on or boot right. If this is the case, the stock backup wont replace an SBF since you need to get into your phone to access bootstrap. All this will do is be a quick way of getting back to stock if you dont want a custom ROM anymore.
Thanks. I just wondered why they say SBF to 2.3.4 before flashing MIUI or CM7. Now if I have a stock 2.3.4 backup I should be fine?
People say to SBF first because its a clean start and a fresh install. It makes it so there are no residual files sitting on your phone from other ROMs that you dont need on your new ROM. I have never had a problem flashing over CM7 with MIUI or visa versa. The only time SBFing is absolutly necessary is if you are on a different Android version that the ROM requires, like 2.3.3 or 2.3.5. Both MIUI and CM7 are based on the 2.3.4 kernel so its safe to flash over eachother. However, Eclipse, for example, is based on the leaked 2.3.5 kernel. So if you wanted to switch between Eclipse and others, SBFing will be necessary.
Is this possible? The full details are I had my phone stolen, and got a new one with android 4.0.4 on it. I have on my computer a copy of my latest backup of my old cognition gingerbread rom. Can I just use CWM to recover to my old rom, or do i need to first downgrade to a gingerbread rom, and then recover?
Thankyou very much for assistance
Edit: Also, I don't actually want to use the old rom, I just need the contacts it saved, afterwards I'll wipe everything and install a clean ICS mod. In case there's any way of doing this without having to revert
You'll probably need to restore the backup with a version of CWM close to the one the backup was made with, you can often have problems restoring if you're using a CWM version a lot (say 12 mths or more) newer than the one you made the backup with.
So I'd probably go GB/with a rooted GB kernel first, restore the backup & go from there. I mean, it could work first try with an ICS kernel that's running a recent CWM build, but there's a fair chance it won't.
Edit - And be really careful with stock 4.0.4, don't do a wipe while you're running that.
Wow. I just... wow.
Ok, so I did the stupid thing and just tried to restore my old backup without doing proper downgrading first and it ended up soft bricking my machine, couldn't get recovery mode up, but I got into download mode. So I downloaded my country's stock gingerbread rom from samsung's site and flashed it with odin just to see what happens, and somehow my old rom was working again, and I have all my contacts and data. saved everything up to google, upgraded to ICS, import.
Everything went better than expected.
Thanks for the help
Told you Important thing is you managed to fix it yourself without asking silly questions in Q&A. Not many people seem to be able to do that these days.
Well done. I'm glad you got it sorted
Edit -You're welcome
