Anyone have problems with GPS tracking in exercise apps? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How you all doing?
I use endomondo to track my bike rides. For the most part the tracking is pretty good when I check out a map after my rides, but sometimes it is off by want I would think is 30-60 yards. For example, I will be on a street, with clear view of the sky, and on the map it will look like I was riding right through houses or even in their backyards.
I ride on a local levy and about 60 yards down from it is a creek. Well it often looks like I rode in the creek the whole way.
So my question is, does anyone else use any sports tracking apps for running, walking or bike riding? If anyone does, can you tell me if your GPS tracking is the same way?
Thanks in advance.

endomondo, settings, "uncheck"- Enable Low Power Mode.
If not that its probably the signal in your area, i use endomondo too, it's obviously a phone and wont be so accurate but it shouldn't be jumping around alot.
Also make sure your cpu doesnt clock down because of your profiles and stuff if you're using a Oc/Uv app like Setcpu, it'll tune down accuray aswell.

Thanks for the info. I will try unchecking that option (it was on) and hopefully that helps. Thanks again.

App to turn off device after X ammount of time idle

is there an app out there that does this? it would really be useful for me since my nook doesn't technically sleep.
I am trying to get the same thing accomplished, and I don't think there is any app designed to do this (I've looked extensively). However there is an app called Tasker, which allows you to automate your phone(or tablet) based on a ton of different contexts/actions. I have Tasker set to run another app called "Quick Shutdown" when screen off time passes 2 hours. It works, sort of, although I am having some issues with the thing turning off when it shouldn't be. Perhaps someone else who owns tasker could make a more reliable profile than mine?
I wasnt aware of that app. Thanks for pointing it out for me. I have been looking for a way to save my battery for sooo long.

suddenly running hot

Nothing has changed on the phone in a week or two (last change was when prYde theme updated), but suddenly today it is running rather warm and rolling through its battery.
I do not see anything strange in behavior, just getting rather warm, and all of a sudden. I actually noticed it was warming my leg in my pocket. Had a look at the phone - screen was not on, but it was heating.
Shut down, pulled the battery out for a few minutes, powered back on, still doing it.
And generally I use ~4% of batt/hr. As it sits, this morning, I unplugged the phone at 06:45 - now at 08:15 I am sitting at 72%. Something is amiss.
Any suggestions or comparable experiences out there? I am at a loss, since nothing has changed...
TIA.
Very interesting. I am running stock 2.2, but rooted. I noticed yesterday my phone was also running stupid hot. The temp app listed it as 114 deg. F. while I had wifi and GPS enabled. The screen was so hot, I could not keep my finger on it.
I have read other forum threads about high temperatures and they recommend replacing the phone. Not sure I want to go that route yet.
When you think about it, 114 deg. F. is not safe.

In another thread I dubbed this the "hot pocket" issue. I have the same problem. I've had it with community ROM 1.x and evil fascinate 3.51 and even a fresh (data wiped) 3.6. I'd love to know what is happening, as I can no longer count on my phone to survive a day, battery wise, even when it is just sitting in my pocket.
Here are the apps I have had installed EVERY time the issue has happened, so we have a beginning list to work from:
ADW Launcher
Hacked Pandora
News and weather
Titanium backup
Tune-in radio
Catch notes
AdFree
Amazon AppStore
Flashlight
GroupMe
Miren Browser
Pulse (news)
ShapeWriter keyboard
Tapatalk Pro
Wireless Tether
Seeing as the issue seems rom/kernel independent, it may be one of our apps.
What apps are you guys running?
Any in common with my list?

I have the same issue sometimes... trying to troubleshoot it as well while I wait on CM7
I have plenty of apps (meaning it will be a bear to list them all, but I am going there at the end of this post) - TiBa would be the only one listed thus far that we have in common...
Something that I opted to try this morning after I posted the question (and I apologize - I realized as I got on the highway this morning, that I had not listed any of my setup - that info will be at the end of this post...) was to swing back home and swap batteries.
To be clear, I keep 2 batteries - one charges in a Samsung stand/charger, the other in the phone. I often switch them when one is getting low as I always have a full one standing by...
I had rebooted teh phone a few times this morning and I was unable to clear the hot pocket (I love the name!), so I figured what the hell... Swing through the house, shut the phone down gracefully (long press power, choose Power Off, not just a hard batt pull...) swapped batteries, powered on and hit the road.
15 minutes later I was in traffic and thought I would have a look - I was 100% back to normal operation. Temps felt normal, battery was chillin at 99% - and it has been in great shape all day.
I want to switch batteries again - as soon as this one gets low, I will do so and report back - very curious if the Hot Pocket will return with the other battery. Honestly, I will be thrilled if it does - cause that is an EASY fix - cheap too...
For the sake of prosperity and ease for others, should the battery prove to be part of the problem, this is what I use:

I've tried pretty much every kernel, including stock that has been released. This issue has been happening to me ever since 2.2 came out.
It has mostly happened simultaneously as a SoD (sleep of death), but not always. Sometimes it'll just get hot and I'll turn on the screen and nothing will be happening.
I should also note, I've been running ADW Launcher on every ROM, so that (hopefully not!) may be the connection. What launcher are you running when it happens?

These are the apps we have in common which aren't just the standard apps. I have also excluded a few which don't have services running all the time, since I've had no apps running beyond ADW launcher and had hotpocket and SoD issues, which stands to reason, it is caused by either A: a common kernel flaw, B: a commonly shared, yet broken, 2.2 custom ROM file, or C: an app which has a service that always runs. I'm leaning towards C, but the other two can't be tested until we disprove C, and B can't be tested until we rule out both A and C. ...I feel like I'm writing a biology experiment
Also, what launcher are you running, stock?
Next step, I guess, is to uninstall all of those apps in common and see if the HP returns, and if not, install each of those apps one by one until it does.. ..Sometimes I hate the scientific method.
I use LP+ - and oddly, I have never, not one time had the SoD.
I haven't recreated the hot pocket since this morning, but I also have not swapped the other battery back in. I can uninstall most of those apps with little to no impact on my life, but Titanium Backup - god it would suck for me if that were the offender.
Ad Free - I am not sure we need any longer. I think we get host files with roms a lot of the time.
I'll miss Tapatalk for a few days, but the rest are a non-issue - I can remove those if it happens again. If it doesn't, I'm not sure removing them would help learn anything...
yeah i've had similar issues as well, mine were all of comm rom 1.3 running comavolt kernel and I use ADW launcher
haven't had it happen since i updated to evil 3.6
one common thing that i thought i had noticed was it seemed to happen when i was in a location that had really crappy service, like it was stuck on searching for a signal or something
not sure if that actually had anything to do with it, i do have some of the apps that you guys do
ADW

TiBu was recently updated - could it be the "hot pocket" app?
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
I've had this issue as well and I'm running dark revenge and one of jts earlier 2.2 kernels. Every time has been in an area with poor reception where the phone switches back and forth between 3g and 1x.

Also Overheating.
I find the low signal to be very intriguing.
I have been unable to re-create the hot pocket - swapped batteries last night and no issue since.
But when it did happen to me, I too was in a low signal area. I never get more than 1 bar 3G or 2 bars 1X at teh tech bench in my office... that is where I had my issues, and back there I can watch it switch - 1X, 3G, 1X, 3G without moving myself or the phone. I know that others are moving and affecting the signals bouncing around in that cinder-block building, but still...
This could be something.
I live in a black hole of sorts and never get good signal. Although I have had hot pocket even while shopping, and I know there is full signal in the stores I frequent.
I also have had the SoD issue, so it may be an overlapping hot pocket result of the SoD, not because of the hot pocket on it's own.
Bah, this phone has made me respect the stability of feature phones. My last phone (HTC 8125, WM5) lasts for a week on a charge.. I miss that battery life.. I just don't miss the brick size of it.
i really think it has to do with the poor signal, thats the only time that it has happened to me, but i don't know what the solution is
I ran across this today, which caused a SoD issue as well as Hot Pocket. Linking the thread instead of pasting, seeing as it may be unrelated:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107529
Me too. I think it's the new updated Voltage Control.
I'm also having SOD and heating issues no matter which kernel/ROM I run, even with stock voltage. I too am running Miren.
i'm not running miren and i don't use voltage control and i've still had the issue

[Q] Google Now Flight Card Wrong Navigation

So I've really been enjoying Google Now and it's many cards. I've really liked the flight cards a lot too, but today I used the "Navigate" feature of the card to get me to the airport my flight was at. My flight was out of DCA (Reagan National Airport). I clicked the card's "Navigate to DCA..." option and it started the navigation app. All was great until we got a little closer. I've flown in to DC/VA area often before and noticed it was taking me to IAD (Dulles Airport) and not DCA. Luckily, IAD and DCA are fairly close to each other and I quickly got the real DCA into the navigation app through the Google Maps app and made it in time. Has anyone else had this happen with any of the other Google Now cards that offer to navigate to places? I'm hoping I can trust it in the future but I'm going to double check from now on. I re-clicked the "Navigate to DCA..." option again once I got to the airport and sure enough it would have taken me back to IAD again! I attached screen shots of it for the 'pics or it didn't happen' folks.
P.S. Anyone know the official way to send feedback to Google about this type of issue?

[Q] Is this the Maps flickering/glitch everyone is seeing?

I've finally hit a breaking point with Maps 7.x. Has anyone else still been having problems with it, or better yet, not had problems with it?
This is a video showing some of the problems I've been seeing. Most noticeable is the jittering glitches. If I'm driving around, the screen is unreadable for directions or street names. At the end is a screenshot I took of a completely glitched out warning prompt to tell me "please enable wifi and mobile network to improve accuracy" though you'd never be able to guess that.

I'm running Infection 2.9.1, and I've tried several kernels (ROM default, Hiro, and Funkybean) and switched up the governors and schedules, and nothing has seemed to work. I've tried disabling/enabling hardware overlays. I'm just at a loss, and hoping someone out there knows more than I do. I just finally had it because it's cool enough outside to run now without getting heat stroke, and Endomondo (my running app) freaks out and loses signal 5 steps into a run. Downgrading to Maps 6.x makes everything happy. Is sticking with the old Maps still the best solutions for this?
Is there any more information that I can provide to eventually get this resolved?
nu Maps stinks on Rezound
I unwisely installed the new Maps from Google Play Store.
It forgot my Favorite places and cached location. Experienced
poor location finding and not-fun routing to locations.
After hating it for a week, I searched for Maps 6.14.4.apk
and installed it with Root Explorer. I am very glad to have
a good working version of Maps running again now.

To be honest google has been messing up alot of things for the Rez lately and maps being one of them....no matter what kernel you are on or what rom you are on its not gonna fix this maps issue...personally i prefer waze as it is not only free on google play but just works alot better and are even more up to date than google maps....plus it has many cool features like it lets you know if theres a cop or accident up ahead...also to note theres a gps test app out there that gives you a much better lock on your gps so it wont loose its signal as much
I have the same flickering issue until I close the app and reopen it. Seems to work fine after that.

Xperia Z2 and built in pedometer

Hello guys!
I have one question for you. When i use my iPhone 5 i was i huge fan of all step counters. I always use day by day app called Moves, but i works on GPS and really fast drain iphone's battery. What about the xperia? Have it got built in pedometer, or simple step counters wors on GPS too? What about the battery drain whit Lifelog or Moves on in my Xperia? That's my first post here, hello everybody!
The short answer is yes, the Z2 has its own 'pedometer'. By that I mean that the device captures 'steps' by itself. You can install a third party app (there are loads on the Play Store - here is an example) to view the number of steps taken. The sensor actually counts the steps constantly, the apps just 'plug into' this data and present it to you.
'Moves' as you are aware does this too, but it also tracks your location. it is in my experience too battery hungry to be worth the installation.
The 'Lifelog' app along with the smartband is quite useful, but it is the smartband which counts the steps taken. The app shows more than just steps, it shows time spent browsing etc.
The other issue is the difference between counting steps via the phone and via a third party piece of hardware (smartband etc). If you have your phone with you always, then it's not too bad, but if like me, you leave your phone for periods (when I go out for lunch at work), then it won't be counting your steps whilst sat on your desk.
My own preferred choice is a Fitbit device, which I can use via all of my devices (PC, tablet, windows phone etc). But it is all a matter of personal preference.
I download Fitbit app but it shows only calories burned, Lifelog from sony is not count well. One time it shows 1500 steps, then 9000, then one more refresh and no change. Moves is draining battery, because from time to time as you said it is using GPS cords. Now I'm thinking about smartband, i really enjoy steps count, because I know when i need to move a little more What should i choose Sony smartband, fitbit flex or maby add some extra cash and take some Pebble Watch?
Pebble as far as I know does not count steps. I would recommend to go with some wristband what shows time as well, I'm using the SmartBand and it's the feature I'm missing. Smartband talk comes out soon which has display as well.
