[Q] UnRoot SGS 2 without using usb - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
I've read a lot of threads but I didn't found a valid solution for my problem.
My USB socket is gone..I can use it only to charge the battery.
I rooted (only rooted, no custom ROM) my SGS2 with odin when it was at 2.3.3..then I updated it from Kies to the 2.3.4.. (i know..it was a stupid thing to do) and i apparently lost the root (app that needs root doesn't work anymore).
After a while my usb socket has brocked and now i want to repair it under the warranty. The problem is that over the device info it says "kernel version: [email protected]". so They will not repair the phone under warranty.
How could I fix that? I've and USB Jig..
Thanks in advice,
Luca

That "root" you speak of in kernel version is superuser (root) on Linux/Unix system where that Android ROM was build. It has nothing to do with your phone.

The best way is to use CWM recovery and flash another kernel on the phone to hide what you have.
Tbh, my friends brand new SGS2 came with a kernel named "[email protected]" funny yeh? It wasn't even rooted, so really you don't have to worry.
Then use a launcher with hiding capabilities to hide the Superuser app.

Help Needed :( - Possible to flash phone without USB Cable?

Basically, my phone USB connector, is for some reason not recognizing anything being plugged into it. I have tried a different cable and i get the same response :/ NOTHING!
Plug into the computer - Nothing
Plug into the wall - Nothing.
I need to flash my phone back to stock, but the only method i can think of is via USB, Over the Air updates are canceled out via the current software I have on my phone. So is their any other possible way ?
Thanks
I suffer from exactly your same issue.. sad 'cause i now have a very expensive brick .. Already covered the topic in my thread, but there is no evident resolution...
I suspect the USB circuit and/or port is defective , or poorly implemented, and breaks easily...

I would go in to your service provider, and hopefully you get an idiot who doesn't realise you were trying to root your Xperia, and they might replace it for you.
Thing thing is, it was going to be sent back for a repair. When the tech guys look at my firmware , they will realise I have rooted my phone, i was hoping to Un-root my phone and then send it back .. Or will this not matter?
Is their not a way to flash my phone back to normal, via the SD-Card?? somthing must be possible if Over Air is Possible..
Any Idea's anybody please?? thanks

I don't know what it would exactly do, but in the Second card
&. Phone storage section of the settings app, there's a factory data reset button, try that.

Hey mate, ive sorted it out i phoned up the Network Operater, and explained I wasnt a satisfied customer, because Ive had the same problem once before (this time i sent it through phones4u with a 30 day wait before i had my phone back :/..... ) Nevertheless Orange currier are coming out tommorow between 6-10 with a new phone battery and charger. which i couldnt knock back (probs reconditioned) but nvm .
Will try and make my phone as clean as possible without any root settings. before take my phone away and probs fix & reflash the phone to factory settings anyway so i dont think it makes any odd's what i do now .
am quite surprised the woman on the phone offered me this type of service, as I got the phone from Phones 4 u, bet yet Orange are the company doing my replacement.
Funny quote from the phone call :-
"Are you sure you for the phone from us sir?"
"erm, yes"
"Ive never seen this message on the system before, its saying your not one of our customers"
"I must be one of your customer's otherwise you wouldnt have all my details"
"Yes thats right ill just ignore the message and send you the replacement"
is there still no solution to this because i need to ship mine back for service.
Have you tried adbwireless apk. Allows you to connect to your phone via adb over your wireless network. You maybe able to modify bin4ys flash tool and flash wirelessly?
Worth a try?

Hey why don't you try Zdzihu's recovery menu? You can flash some of the ROMS from Jerpelea without touching a computer... Of course you'll need to download the ROM straight to your device...

I've got this same problem too. (appologies for multi posting, I did search first).
No response since the upgrade. I'll look into Zdzihu's recovery menu.
If anyone gets any news, please shout.
OK put Zdzihu recovery on and flashed to Jerpelea's lite rom without the need for a USB....... however the problem still stands! Plug in the wall charger and nothing..... plug in PC USB and .... NOTHING.
I got this phone as a prototype before they were released, by a mate in the industry. So have no warrenty to send it back with. But I love the phone so any more ideas?
I have left it switched off to preserve the battery until a solution is found.
I remain hopeful!

What usb cable are you using? Did you get one WITH the phone from a friend, did it come with another phone, or did you buy it from a store? I used to work at RadioShack and we had different usb cables for different phones. The connector may be the same, but the pin position in the cable can be different. A normal looking USB cable that would come with say, a motorola phone couldn't be used to charge a blackberry despite the connection being the same port type.

Did they fix it or give you a new one and were you rooted? I have the same problem with the broken usb but I rooted and stripped all the bloatware and now have no way to flash back to stock rom. I still have the Rogers rom but streamlined.
Does anyone know how to put stuff back on like Timescape. I have all the apks from this forum and installed all the timescape stuff but it doesn't show up in the app drawer. If I clean up the phone and send it back will they know it was rooted keeping in mind that it is still the stock Rogers rom just with less crap on it.
I think one solution, since you already have Zdzihu's recovery menu, will be to ask someone who is using Rogers to create a backup image and upload it some where. Then you can use the restore tool from recovery menu and you'll be set up with Roger's again. Unfortunately I cannot help you with this since I'm in Guatemala but probably someone else can... I hope you can fix it men.

I'm guessing if you got it for free, it wouldn't be too painful to actually buy one off eBay...
Ok, yeah, it's a stupid suggestion, but I guess you get what you pay for...

[Q] USB not working - how can I back to stock rom for repair

My battery isn't charging with either the mains charger or usb so it looks like I need to send back to 3 under warranty
Problem is that I've installed the Cognition ROM (which is awesome!) so I need to somehow get the phone back to stock before I return it. Whatever is causing the charging problem is has also stopped the usb working. So obviously I can't put the files onto the internal memory without the usb Can flash it back to a stock rom using CWM by putting the rom on the 'external' SD card?
If that is possible there branded stock roms on the Intratech thread but these all appear to need to be flashed with Odin. Are there CWM versions anywhere?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
Incidentally, if I plug the mains charger or usb lead in to the phone while it is powered off it switches itself on and boots up without me pressing the power button? But it still doesn't charge and the pc still can't see it via usb.
Thanks
Steve

Also you can try usb jig
I have a jig an it does recognise that. Well, it was recognised and let me clear the number of flashes. At the risk of sounding silly can I do anything else with the jig?

I've tried both the mains charger and the usb charging lead and neither work. As the usb->pc connection isn't working either I'm assuming it must be a fault with the phone.

Any thoughts or ideas on this guys?
Yes, I've got exactly the same issues, but thankfully I'm on stock software including kernel having swapped in an insecure kernel for rooting. USB jig worked to reset counter but unable to connect to any pc with any cable in odin or normal. Can do kies over wifi and kies recognised me as having stock and up to date firmware.
Can anyone help me get out of root from this position? The only visible evidence of root to me is the superuser app. Would a factory reset do the trick? Thanks

Are you having charging problems with your phone too?
No, thankfully that's the only thing left working. There are other threads with this problem popped up in the last week. Seen our wonderful s2 has a weakness with the usb soldering to the board.

I've ordered a spare battery and a charging dock so that I can try to bring it back to life and reset it to factory.
I'd really appreciate it if someone could help with how to re-stock it without usb
Bump - please help us!
I'm having the same problem except the charging problem. But in the end i was able to flash back to stock rom using Odin while USB debugging was on. Fortunately Odin did recognise my phone.
Yesterday i ordered the JIG so i can set back the counter and then i will send my phone back for repair.
My problem is that I can't connect to usb to restock the rom. However I have managed to reset the counter using a jig. Why it recognises the jig but not usb I have no idea??
I'm going to have to return the phone for repair with the Cognition rom installed
What's Samsung's (UK) policy is on this kind of thing is?

Officially no warranty .
You take your chance and hope custom rom and root is not noticed or ignored .

Oh dear, looks like I'm just going to have to take my chance and send it in for repair. I've seen a few posts about the usb port lately. I hope this isn't going to be a common fault or there are going to be a lot of us facing warranty issues
i dont really know much about this area.. but if it was me i think id download the generic firmware put on sdcard.. and install via cmw ... then after that is on , possibly root if its not rooted uninstall cmw then superuser . then take root off.. do full wipes ect... after all this.
only problem is.. your count will show it has been flashed.
am not (100%) sure if it works like this.. but its just a guess and the closest i can think of a way for it to work.. hope you get it sorted ..

Hm, an idea comming to mind about reflashing stock ROM - but be very carefull, got only one shot at this (due to loosing root, so w/o Odin, no way for a 2nd try if something doesn't work!)
Untar an Odin .tar FW pack and convert the .img files to actual raw .img dumps.
You only need the simg2img tool from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081239
Copy the converted factoryfs.img (should be exactely 512MB) and the zImage to the sdcard via WiFi.
Then flash those two using good, old dd from a terminal:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/zImage of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 bs=4096
dd if=/sdcard/factoryfs.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9 bs=4096
That should drop you back to a stock ROM.
Since you're sending it in for repait anyways, if the above totally fails, just say it broke during a Kies update.

Universal AndRoot for S2? (Rooting Apk?)

Hey!
I searched as much as I could, but to my best effort under this bad connection I'm using right now (I'm in the Tahrir Protests in Egypt right now!), I couldn't find anything.
When I used my Milestone, there was an app called Universal AndRoot. It was an apk file that you installed normally, then you could just gain and lose temporary root by clicking it on and off. Is there such a thing for the S2?
We're here in the protest and I am trying to create a wifi tether for the people here, can't risk rooting the phone right now and bricking it.
Thanks!
Hey it turns out I already have tether! But the question remains Thanks for the help.
I don't know of a way that easy.. but the windows program 'super one click rooting can do it.. assuming you have comparable drivers in your computer, and it can actually read the phone (installing samsung kids will allow a PC go recognize the phone). another option is flashing a kernel or custom rom that is prerooted.. (can be done right from the phone, but can he a. huge pain).. that's all I can think of ATM.. goodluck with whatever you're protesting for.

[Q] Unroot X10i without cable

Hey guys,
I dropped my X10i last night and now it wont charge or connect to my computer. Before I take it in for repair I've been searching the forums and Google to find a way to unroot it without the cable but having no luck finding an answer anywhere, if the question has been answered please link me to the relevant thread since I'll have just overlooked it. I've got an adapter that will let me copy stuff onto the microSD card in it so can use that if necessary.
If there isn't any way to do this can anyone tell me whether or not it's safe to just uninstall ROM Manager, xRecovery, Superuser, BusyBox and Titanium Backup and hope O2 or Sony don't realise it's rooted?
My phone is still running the stock Gingerbread firmware.
Edit: froze most of them using Titanium Backup and seems to be running fine so I'm guessing I'm good to uninstall them after backing up to reinstall if Sony fix it. I'm not finding anything to hide or remove Superuser from a Rooted phone. Any help with this last step would be great!

He did say that his USB port is screwed, and he's trying to get his port fixed. It's a hardware issue rather than a software issue which you Can fix with flashtool/Sony software.

Just got back from my local O2 store. For anyone with a similar issue I didn't manage to unroot it, I just deleted all the apps that gave away that it was then bought Superuser and enabled Ghost mode. O2 agreed the phone was broken and they replaced it with an Xperia Arc for free since it was within warranty no questions asked.

[Q] TriangleAway or Root w/o USB

Basically I have a Galaxy S3 I9300. The USB port is broken, i.e. charges occasionally for a few seconds when i wiggle the cable in the port. It will no longer connect to a PC and be registered as a device.
I need to send it in for repair and it needs to be unrooted and returned to stock. I managed to do most of it on the phone using TriangleAway and Mobile Odin. Unfortunately I am now left in the position that I no longer have root, I am running the latest Touch Wiz UI build, and my Custom Binary (in download mode) says YES (count 1) but the rest says OFFICIAL and SAMSUNG. I'm guessing this is because I used TriangleAway whilst using a custom ROM so it left the count at 1.
Now my problem is that I cannot reset the count as I can't rot my phone because the USB port does not work. Any ideas for rooting or resetting the custom binary count? N.B. Have tried Framaroot to no avail.
If you've exhausted framaroot, you're stuck I imagine.

Maybe if you agree to pay for the USB port repair (I doubt it is much) they won't care about flash counter and your warranty will remain in tact for future.
I'll give that a go, I did not realise they might just repair the USB port.
