Is there a flash-able ROM/RUU for the latest Gingerbread OTA from Verizon for the Thunderbolt? I was thinking about unrooting and downloading it, but I figured there's probably a better way. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't see any here but at the Roootzwiki tbolt development forums there is. There are two in fact. One rooted, one unrooted. You will have to find the link but it is definitely in the top 10-20 posts.
There is in fact a one here on xda its in general section, here is the link to unrooted http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/1...-fixes-several-issues-from-the-previous-leak/
I don't see any reason to unroot when you can just flash the rooted version. There would be no changes other than you can delete all Verizon and HTC bloat if you stay rooted.

I had a thought that came to my mind.
I understand that the big issue with the rollback is the bootloader or w/e
I'm so tired of my v1 of the 2.1 leak.
Is it possible to use an image of the OTA 2.1 since I'm assuming the bootloader from the OTA and the leak is the same....
Any ideas?
Re: Question
You would think so but issue with bootloader is they are the same version with s- on. With that the device assumes the its is same version as leak and you get an error when trying to flash. Say in version you are trying to load is older than the one you have. If that weren't true then rooting would be possible on the leak. Sorry.

I'd think you should be able to flash the OTA update. Since you're on leak v1, you stand to get quite a few improvements and bug fixes, at the very least. It won't help you root unfortunately, but it would still be an upgrade for you, if you don't mind a brand new flash.
Re: Question
Yeah you would think but ota has lower version of bootloader. The leak has 1.49 and ota has 1.46 or 1.47. And device assumes ota is older version of Android. The only version you can flash once on leak is desire ruu which is a new release. There is I post for it in the Android development forum.

What about leak v3? It's basically the same as the OTA and you should be able to update to that.
Re: Question
Download ROM HERE
It seems to be a Verizon Droid Eris 2.1 Official ROM.

Yes you can use leak version 2 or 3. Or the release which they are installing on all phones as they produced them in Feb. Before Eris got discontinued.

Alright so if I'm reading all this correctly I should be able to flash into a newer leak...
Does anyone have any idea how I'm supposed to do this?
Do I flash to Leak V3 or to the desire ruu rom?
Thanks for all the great answers by the way.
From the looks of things I'm not as stuck as I thought I was.

If i were you i would flash with the RUU rom.
Granted they're both the same OS, its the official one from Verizon.
Better safe than sorry

Yep thats what I did. I put the RUU over Leak v3 and at the least I am "offical" now since I couldnt do anything anyway (root, etc). Simple process with the RUU.
Can someone point me in the right direction as to how I use the Ruu?
Do I install it on my computer first or just put it directly onto my SD card like with the v1 rom?

Good to hear, let's just hope we won't be on it long and jcase can crack this thing.

Is it possible to take a OTA update while rooted? I am still on the stock Rom. And if so, will it unroot me?

Nope I believe that is one of the benefits of s-off

Wrong!
You can take the update, it will unroot you, AND if the new update includes a new HBOOT it will flash over and give you a security warning and/or S-ON.
your best bet is to wait a few hours and someone will make a rooted version of the new ota... but chances are we will have the ota update weeks before it is ever pushed to any non rooted phones... at the moment .6 is stock.. and all the roms are .9 so all I"m waiting on is a new radio update to hopefully fix this wacky 3g signal I get

If it detects you are a lower version then the OTA it will still attempt to upgrade.
Ok. From what I understand, the OTA won't automatically install if I am rooted. Which is good. But if I wanted to I could force the OTA to install?
But from what some people in this thread say, it's not worth it, and I could just get a unrooted version of the OTA from here at some point?
Is that all correct?
I am only interested because I heard there was a big OTA coming on the 16th, and I expect that it will fix a bunch of random stuff on the TB. So I'd like to get it.
I'm pretty sure you need to have stock recovery installed to install the OTA. If using CWM it will not install.
Wow this is interesting...i flashed a new radio yesterday is this the new ota update.
jcase said he thinks the leaked ruu is supposed to be the first OTA.
I haven't found a straight answer yet, so I am posting here. I am currently stock but I would like to root some time in the near future. I would also like to try the update before rooting. However, I am concerned that if I apply the update that the root method in the development forums may no longer be valid. Is it possible that Verizon could lock down the phone with this OTA update such that I will not be able to root after it is applied?
Thanks,
Josh
The ota is the exact same as what was leak about 2 weeks ago. JCase compared both and made that determination. I believe he also made a root unsigned copy for down load. Most devs have already incorporated this update into their roms. The only thing is the new radio will need flashed. Check out the development section and look for the roms posted by jcase. It is best not to run the ota/leaked on the older radio as they compliment each other. Any other questiins pm.

I thought this update included the new radios?
U would have to flash the entire ruu, and that will give u everything. Most rooted flash the rom through recovery the flash radio through hboot. Jcase has a nice op in the development section.

So if I update my stock phone via the ota update, I can still root afterwards if I decide no problem?
It appears that yes you should be able to root the ota via JCase's root tutorial.
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt
If u decide to flash a custom rom, the update is in most of them, u would just have to flash the radio separate.

Hey Guys,
I rooted my Thunderbolt but I really don't like it anymore. I'm really new to this and just want to go back to the factory settings. I can't get the OTA update doing it manually and its pissing me off.... can anyone help me?

If you're rooted, you could have gotten the OTA update weeks ago. But if you are determined to return to stock for whatever reason, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423.
A lot of roms already have the OTA's long before they are released, i use those and dont even bother with OTA's anymore. I would really consider staying with root. theres so much more you can do i dont see why anyone wouldnt want it. but if you are determined to then the link mentioned above works fine.
What radio should I flash via hboot on Das BAMF v1.6.3? There are 4 combos to choose from.
Which radio combo is included in the OTA that just went out a few days ago? Is that the one I should choose for Das BAMF v1.6.3?
Hello, I did an OTA update and now I have version 1.45.1500.3 and cannot revert back to stock because the RUU on the site is version 1.45.1500.2 and it's impossible to downgrade. I was wondering if anyone has the current version?

In my defense, I had just joined the forum yesterday and for the first time unlocked the bootloader, removed root, flashed a custom rom and kernel. But the OTA update was performed before I even came onto XDA, so I didn't know that because of it I would not be able to revert to stock. Now I do.

Hi,
I would like to install a non rooted version of ICS on my Thunderbolt.
This Thunderbolt is only being used for development, so I don't pay verizon on it, meaning the OTA doesn't work.
Would anyone know where I could find the PG05IMG.zip of the whole ICS update ?
Thank you

You would have to ask HTC, Verizon, (or Football? maybe) if you can find him for an RUU.
There was never one distributed that I have seen.
I compiled it together with 2.11.605.19 just as they would have on the device itself with the OTApkg.zip which contains many patch files.
There is no RUU that I have found yet, if I see one I will PM you a link for sure.
Closest you can get, is I can make a non rooted rom, but you would still need to be able to flash it.....so I don't know.

Oh then nevermind thanks, I'll just get the rooted one.
I'm looking for this too, as my bolt seems dead. I was on twisted's multi 1/13 but got frequent boot loops stopping at boot splash... So I tried to go back to stock but it still loops the same way. I was hoping the new OTA might do the trick.

Hey guys,
I'm not a developer and I've moved on from my Thunderbolt to a Note II meaning it has no more Verizon service. Do you think they'll be coming out with whatever file I need to get ICS on my phone without rooting? If there is no option, I can go the rooting route, but I would like to keep everything stock and this as a playtoy if possible.

The update didnt come in the form of an ruu. They made it a damn ball of patches that have to be applied to the stock .19 ROM. The ROM also cant have any system apps removed to make it work.
