[Q] [mini pro] from GingerDX v17 on stock to zombie [Solved] - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hi guys,
This is my very first post on XDA.
I've spent a lot of time parsing and looking for answers (too much if you ask my wife ) I'm no more feeling "alone" when I read all this people going mad for their phones
I managed to unlock my mini pro and install GingerDX v17 without any problem. Now I'd like to use a custom kernel (zombie), but as I installed the modules, I suppose I have to remove them before flashing the new kernel.
I'm looking for some hints and advices to be sure I do not brick my phone and follow all the good steps.
What I'm planning to do:
Delete the modules and files present in the zip I flashed (through command line of SDK, right ?)
Download the new kernel and place it in SD (well, follow the zombie thread instructions...)
Reboot in recovery (and do full wipe ?)
Flash the new kernel
Reboot
My phone specs:
X10 mini pro
Stock kernel
GingerDX v17
CMparts fix flashed
GingerDX modules flashed
Thank you for your help and suggestions.
Tim
PS:
I'm not sorry for my bad English as it's written we don't have to write it, right

your going somewhat right but follow these steps:
1) Delete the modules u flashed from the ginger-dx_module pack(for stock) from /system/lib/modules with root explorer
modules present :
cy8ctma300_ser.ko
ext3.ko
ext4.ko
jbd2.ko
jbd.ko
smartass.ko
x8mddi.ko
x8oc.ko OR U can directly flash the ROM zip which u downloaded without the modules but do not make factory reset or any wipe..
2)Download kernel on PC.. Open using Winrar or any zip.. you will find X10 Mini Pro_Zombie Panic Kernel v1.6.3_slade87.ftf file.. place the it in the /firmwares folder in flashtool..
3)turn off ur phone
4)Run the flashtool from PC select the kernel [ zombie panik] from list. it will ask you to connect phone in flash mode
5)so press the back button on phone and then connect using USB.. then the kernel will be flashed and u will be said to disconnect and reboot your phone..
6)your done
hope it helps..

Hey,
It took me more time to find a good root file explorer than flashing the new kernel. Finally ES Explorer did the work (after ticking root option in settings).
My phone is sooooooooooooo more reactiv ! Impressive.
Thank you faiyyaz for your help.

X10 Custom ROM AOSP 2.1 : How to for dummies [tutorial & discussion]

this thread is open to help newbies to install the 2.1 custom rom with the simples way..
you also can discuss any problem here..
dont mess the dev thread with a dumb question...
thanks to "Perceval from Hyrule" for the original tutorial..
this is revise version for 2.1
INSTALLATION FOR 2.1 AOSP
Before attempting anything, make sure you have AT LEAST 50% of battery charge. Don't try anything with low battery, you can abort the flashing and brick your device !!!
Please make sure you're also running a 2.1 rom (Generic, nordic, official, custom...)
1st step:
make sure your computer is adb debugging ready..
in case in need for command execution..
- Download Android SDK
You don't need to save the entire archive (but you can), you just need the Tools folder (because it contains ADB, the Android Debug Bridge we need to install files).
2nd step:
- On x10 :
Enable USB debugging (Setting > Applications > Development).
Root your device. easiest way by using z4root.
Download and install Busybox (from Market), make sure it says "Done!".
3rd step:
install xrecovery for recovery menu.
xrecovery a.k.a recovery menu
4th step:
option 1:
Download rom.
2.1 AOSP ROM (make sure 2.1 since this tutorial is for 2.1)
extract the rom (u will get 2 folder + 1 files)
upload the file into your sd card root(sdcard/*.zip)
rename the *.ZIP to Update.ZIP
*the 2 folder contain application which u can install if u like
option 2:
Download rom.
2.1 AOSP ROM (make sure 2.1 since this tutorial is for 2.1)
extract the rom (u will get 2 folder + 1 files)
upload the file into your sd card root(sdcard/*.zip) or in any folder u like
*the 2 folder contain application which u can install if u like
5th step:
boot into recovery menu (by restart and hit few times back button when "SONY ERICSSON" word appear)
backup your original rom(in case u want to restore next time)
hit full wipe
option 1:
hit install update.zip from SD card
option 2:
hit install custom zip
search for the custom zip in folder where u save it
hit the zip file
after reboot, u will get custom rom installed in your X10
good luck ;-)
TIPS
1-u can do like rendeiro2005 said by creating rom folder and put the rom collection in it..
so if u want to change or try other rom just choose zip file from the particular folder...
this require using step from option 2
2-another one, by creating folder which contain backup image..
u can collect your friends backup image and put in one folder..
if u want to try, just restore the particular image file using backup/restore option in recovery menu and choose the backup image file..
collection of custom rom backup file for recovery menu:

Hi bro,
Only two calls on your excellent tutorial:
1. No need to put the rom in the root of the sdcard. I, for example, to distinguish the roms, I`ve created a folder "Rom" in the root and put the roms in there.
2. It is not necessary to rename the *. zip file.
When we entered the xRecovery, you can go to "install Custom Zip> zip Choose Custom from sdcard>" Now in my case I a. .. "Roms >........" and I intend to choose

it`s not a different way.
i think that way would be more simple (for me at least) `couse you can have different roms puted on the same directory without, everytime that you want to install one change his name to default.zip
but...great TUT (clap your hands floks)
Since i haved installed the 2.1 AOSP, my recovery were deleted !
So i install the xrecovery.apk but it doesnt work (don't fin the SD Card), so i paste the 3 files with root explorer but nothing to do... the recovery doesn't work at all =(

Install all 3?! Yes you can...if you want you can install WM and iOS
Now mre seriously.
If you want to install 2.1 you have to format sdcard to one partition only. 2.1 doesn't work with more than 1.
Then you can flash...follow this guide to do so

[Q] ROM for E10a

Hey
Is there any rom fro E10a, 'cause all I've seen is ROMs for E10i, or maybe anyone can point me in the right direction for making a ROM for E10a?
Thanx
here you go
go to my post on 3g/wcdma issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895105
i uploaded an e10a rooted x.x.x.x.24 firmware; the system is for xrecovery and the other files for bin4ry flash tools on the second post
PS: maybe i should re-do my post and make a tutorial since many members have confirmed it works
yes, please!
i too have e10a and would like to have a step-by-step to get a pre-rooted rom installed....
i can't seem to get app2sd of jit working on my mini... maybe a pre-rooted rom will solve my probs... any way to add app2sd and jit to the rom??
e10 xrecovery on its way...
hello,
i have followed the xrecovery method for making a pre-rooted e10a compatible update.zip with xrecovery pre-loaded. many thanks to the users who have provided this forum with the tools necessary for me to do so. i can confirm that i am tethering from it with barnacle as you are reading this!
the bad/good news (depends on how you look at it): since the 2.0.2.A.0.24 e10a update method's data connection icons would show up but would *not* allow me to have a functioning data connection, i decided that i needed to make a system image native to the e10a, so i used my own firmware's 2.0.1.A.0.47 system.sin. this means that canadian users will soon have a pre-rooted version of the latest (at least my SEUS says it is) firmware for their region.
the good news: e10a users will finally have a means to root their phones after updating to the latest firmware (2.0.1.A.0.47), on which z4root no longer works.
just give me either 1 or 2 hours to get a howto up on another thread or (it's getting late here) 24h to 36h to sleep / perform my daily non-computer tasks and then i'll update this post with a link to my thread / guide.
cheers,
uriah
ok try this
@watchyourbreath
for flashing a custom rom you'll need an already rooted firmware on your phone since you'll be needing xrecovery, if you have already xrecovery just download the update.zip from the thread i linked to in the previous post (second post on that thread), in xrecovery use the option wipe all data (factory reset) then use the option install update.zip from sd card
IMPORTANT: you should have the kernel that eclair uses 2.6.29 since my rom is 2.1 itself
that is for the pre-rooted rom
if you don't have xrecovery yet and don't have root, flash a 2.0.A.0.504 firmware (eclair) doesn't matter if it's not e10a ( read the thread i posted) then root it with z4root ( it's around the forums)
now for the jit an apps2sd part,
for jit you have to modify build.prop on the following parts
dalvik.vm.heapsize=30m
kernel.log=default
debug.sf.hw=1
and at the end of the file add this
dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit
then extract the jit carpet from the atachements and place it on your sd card
then open a terminal and write the following
su
(give root permitions to terminal)
cd sdcard
cd jit
sh enable_jit.sh
then the phone should reboot and have jit enabled
on the apps2sd i can't help you because i havent tried it myself, because what i
do is remove the dop.iso file from the data folder with root explorer, that
gives arround 130 mb of free space also dop.iso is the option when you connect
your phone to install pc companion on the pc so if you already have it installed
there is no need for it on your phone
hope this helps
...as promised

@kurotany, uriah
is it possible to use azuzu's newest rom (smalldevil) with this method of converting it to e10a 3g specs?
smalldevil: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=903323
@ watchyourbreath,
I believe that would depend on whether the SmallDevil firmware is based on an E10i or an E10a firmware. However, you could try replacing my update.zip with his and using my guide for downgrading, etc.
If your data connection doesn't work when trying his update.zip, you might have a bit more luck using the .sin files from the guide posted earlier in this thread (the link posted before mine).
Good luck!
uriah
yep, its safe
@ watchyourbreath
yes, there is no problem using e10i roms, tried it myself while testing my tutorial for 3g/wcdma problems, since i belive most roms only replace the files that come in system.sin you shouldn't loose 3g, but if by any reason you do lose it you can do the flashing method in my first post link to get it back
PS: @ijama also, the file is located in /data, it should be there if when you plug your phone you get the option to instal the pc companion, if you only get conect phone and charge phone options then yep it's deleted, try searching with root explorer, it's in /data folder root
rom for a...
well upload some where your system.img...
and i can make one..
i don't understand, but i will do as i'm told once i do! do i need to get small tools installed and convert something? i'm kinda not a complete noob so you don't need to start from scratch...
and to clarify, if i can upload a system.img file for you, you can make a smalldevil rom for e10a?
clarification...
it would be possible.. so upload somewhere system.sin from your seus directory and i will do it..
is that ok?
sure is! i'm not home right now but i'll do it when i get home...
amazing! can't wait to be able to load a rom with root, xrecov, app2sd and jit already in place!!!
thanks so much in advance.... upload coming later on.....

I will be waiting for your work with e10a aZuZu!
no system.img..
i still don't see link... of system.img nowhere..
but as far as i can see.. only diff between e10i and e10a is in build.prop, logcat and few libs...
so putting buid.prop and replacing logcat + libs should give working e10a rom...

[Q] How can I put ROMs on x8 and multitouch(x8 gesture V004)

Can you help me!!!please i want to hack my xperia x8...but i don't know how to do!
Can you give me a video guide or a simple guide please?
Thanks in advance!
You find all information on Development area.
Just choose one ROM and follow the instructions there.
Good luck!
I think you need to root your phone and install xrecovery before you can install ROMs
yaa..go to development forum then choose 1 rom..
First root your phone with SuperOneClick or other app
install xrecovery
choose rom
use xrecovery to install it
1. Root yr phone using superoneclick(usb) or universal androot (apk).
2. Install root explorer(in phone) or adb shell (on pc).
3. Follow the instructions for xrecovery installation from development thread.
4. Flash latest(015) baseband and build (2.1.1.0.6)
5. Flash roms of ur choice.....
For modules like overclock, pinch zoom etc once root explorer is installed all modules can be loaded by just extracting and copying them to system/lib/modules and editing hw_config.sh .... instuctions are available at development threads.

hi, i got a similar problem with my smultron so i would be interested if you found a solution.
i figured out that in stock based rom (and kernel) the wifi works, in different cm builds it doesnt. i tried different kernels (even some i already got the wifi working) but nothing helped. For this kernels i didn't have to flash any modules ( the description said that i don't have to...(already included!?)).
I have to admit, that i don't know much about all this stuff, so i would really appreciate if someone could give me a hint about what to do
thanks allot!
Hmmmm...do this step....
1.using any file explorer with ROOT excess, go and delete....
a. /data/local/tmp
2.Then copy and paste all files from roms that you're using right now (flashable zip)....
a./system/lib/modules (flashable zip) to your phone /system/lib/modules (replaced all files with proper permission rwxr-xr-x)
3.delete other files that is not been replaced (can be identified by look at the date of the files/delete files that have old date)
4.exit the file explorer, turn of your phone and boot into fastboot....
5.flash any kernel you desire....
6.your wifi will fixed after that....
ah... i'm really sorry i didn't see your reply till now
didn't try your solution, but it the end i got it working again. don't remember how
anyway, thanks allot for your help!!!

[Q] Wi-Fi problems when trying to use Bares' Init.d Scripts Using Stock Kernel (V3)

I am trying to go back to stock ROM and use the Bares' Init.d Scripts Using Stock Kernel (V3).
I reflashed the stock GB ROM using flashtool, rooted and installed xrecovery 0.3. After that, I installed Bares' INIT-D-RUNNER-TWEAKS-V3.zip using xrecovery and rebooted. When ever I try to use wifi I get "Error" just below the toggle to turn it on and i does not work.
It seems like someone else had this problem, but Bares says tha wifi errors shouldn't happen, see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174564&highlight=wifi
I tried reinstalling three times (install original ROM and after that apply the Init.d scripts) in an unlocked bootloader X10. I then relocked the boot loader and tried again and I still get wifi problems.
Anyone else having problems like this? Is there a work around?
Obs: I could not post in the original threas as I am a newbie here and I am not allowed to post in the development section.

So, please use this zip, just flash it through Xrecovery, then it should be fine.

First, thanks Bares for ansewring fast. But I am sorry to say that I did not succeed. First, I tried to simply add the line
insmod /system/lib/modules/wifi.ko
in the middle of install-recovery.sh and it didn't work out. I thought the reason was that I did not add the wiki.ko file to /system/lib/modules in the generated zip and started to look for it. I found the following the stock wifi modules from here. I got the modules from the x10_gb_stock_wifi_modules.zip file and added them to my tweaked INIT.D zip but it didn't work out. Anything that I am missing?

Hmmm..., this problem could be happened if the rom wasn't settled properly too.
So, please try these steps (exactly) :
- Revert back to stock and setup the phone.
- Root it with the latest Flashtool and choose SuperSU !!!
- Install Xrecovery and let the rom settled first !!!
- Check an everything including wifi !!!.
- If its all working good then flash my script (see the thread for the latest one) through xrecovery and dont get rush on the first 2~3 reboot.
- And check the result.
Regards
It still does not work

I tried as you suggested and it didn't work. I tried both with your V4 scripts and with my modified version to include the "insmod /system/lib/modules/wiki.ko". Both did not work after some time to settle the original ROM (with 3 reboots) and some time to settle the modified ROM (3 more reboots).
I have also tried your new STOCK-GB-MOD-RELOAD.zip update file, but it didn't work either.
One thing I noticed is that your original update files delete the wifi.ko module from the /system/lib/modules directory that exists in the stock ROM. I even copied wifi.ko to my computer and cried an small zip that can be flashed by xrecovery to restore that file, but it is not enough to get it working. I tried to read your INIT-D-RUNNER-TWEAKS-V4 to see what it was doing but I did not understand how it changes wifi (I could not even find out where wiki.ko wasw being deleted).
It is a really shame, as your new STOCK-GB-MOD-RELOAD.zip looks exactly as what I wanted.
Anything else I should try?

Hi bro,
The last options is by remove these 2 lines below from instal-recovery.sh script inside zip provided (STOCK-GB-MOD-RELOAD.zip) :
HTML:
#init.d runner
busybox run-parts /system/etc/init.d/
BUT, ... the problem is : you will lost init.d runner for Stock Kernel, and it cause all tweaks will not run for sure.
The result is the rom will feel a bit slower than it should be.
Note : To be honest, i'm little bit confusing here, because everything should be fine.
OR : Use custom kernel for Locked Bootloader ( Doomkernel V6 for Locked Bootloader).
OR :
Just simply unlock the bootloader (it's really safe, but you have to follow the proper procedure on this), the simply procedure is :
- Revert back to Stock Rom using PC Companion or SEUS or Flashtool (Download the latest Flashtool Version (see the thread about how to unlock for more detail info, read it carefully!!!)., and then unlock your bootloader using this Flashtool.
Note :
Don't assume if got doubt about this.
- Flash custom kernel using above Flashtool (DoomKernel V6 integrated Bootmanager V2 Auto Rooted by Championswimmer is my recommendation) , because it's using Original Sony's boot splash logo.
- Flash above zip (STOCK-GB-MOD-RELOAD.zip) through Xrecovery.
- Finally you have to flash wifi modul for above kernel (find it on DoomLord's Thread).
Hope this help

Intalling another kernel does not work...
Hi,
I had a version with a prestine Stock + STOCK-GB-MOD-RELOAD.zip[/B] through Xrecovery. And I installed championswimmer kernel on top of it (thinking it would restore wi-fi) and it didn't work. That is realluy strange. I am starting to fear that the problem is with my X10 (it has some odd behaviors, like it always become slow when using a Ferakernel).
I'll try your first suggestion (turn off init.d scripts) and let you know how it went here.
Anyhow, great thanks!

I tried to turn off init.d scripts and it didn't work!
It was getting into my nerves. So I decided to look inside your INIT-D-RUNNER-TWEAKS-V4.zip file to see if something was weird to me. I am an old Linux desktop user and it looked very strange a line in the update-script script inside META-INF/com/google/android:
delete_recursive SYSTEM:etc/init.d
This woudl delete the whole /etc/init.d directory, somthing that looks very dangerous from a desktop user. So I just commented it and created a new zip file (allowing the copy of your custom init.d scripts, just avoid the full deletion before hand). I was sure it would not work, but it did... Wifi is working after I install this new zip.
I plan now to take a close look at exactly what files are being deleted to find out what should remain in order to keep wifi working in my phone. I'll let you know when I get it right. Now I have to leave as real life is calling me!
I found a solution
I found the problem an the solution.
Just after installing the stock rom, rooting, and installing xrecovery, there is a single file in /system/etc/init.d. It is called 00modules (see attachment). It looks like it create symlinks from the currect kernel modules to /system/lib/modules. This file is essential to get wifi working in my X10.
Since Bare's mods, like STOCK-GB-MOD-RELOAD.zip, delete all the files in there I end up without wifi after installing them.
The solution is simple. Just add this file to STOCK-GB-MOD-RELOAD.zip in "system/etc/init.d". It will them be copied back after being erased. Wifi works and I get Bare's mod fully functional.
Thanks Bares fo your mod!

I create this line below :
delete_recursive SYSTEM:etc/init.d
Just to make sure no additional tweaks on init.d (and this is for users that don't want to fresh install the rom) , so the rom will 100% run with my files, just is't.
BTW, thanks a lot for the finding bro :good:. I have update my script to the FINAL one (see my thread), and it seem will be no more update after this one.
FYI
Best Regards
