Hello,
My SGS2 is running on Android 2.3.4 using the KI1/KI1/KI1 firmware.
Unfortunately USB Host Mode doesn't seem to work. From what I have read, I
need KH3 in order to have Usb Host support for my self-written applications.
Now the questions:
- Are there several firmwares which support USB Host Mode? If so, which should I install?
- Do I lose my warranty if I flash a different firmware?
I have seen this thread but I am not quite sure which firmware to install.
Moreover, please note that USB Host mode works fine if I just want to connect an USB Stick but this application crashes in the same way as mine.
The debugger tells me that the desired USB-method (e.g. getDeviceList) was not found.
Thanks for your help.
Best
Does no one know the answers?
Here is what I know so far:
1) Flashing a stock firmware vie Odin does not void the warranty
2) I've been told that KH3 supports the USB HOST API.
Please correct me if I'am wrong.
Will the XXKH3 firmware work on my SGS2?
I've got XXKI4 and it works.
so you can run applications like DSLRController?
Moreover, can I directly flash from XXKI1 to XXKI4?
Thanks
offcourse you can flash ,reverse too if you want to after ,download stock firmware from here, you got guide too : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

Hi guys,
As you already know, Samsung started to release the new 2.3.4 firmware for SGS2.
First, should I use a XXKG2 Generic or Carrier branded firmware? I just want to make sure my service is not disrupted in any way. I like the idea not having all the extra garbage my carrier added as applications...
Second, I did a quick compatibility test with Odin and Microsoft drivers. Originally, I had issues with Kies drivers on my Win7 x64 box, so I had to reinstall Windows again in order to clean it nice. To properly install all Microsoft drivers (Windows Update), I powered down the phone first and connected the USB cable and powered back the phone in Download mode (Vol Down + Home + Power):
Then, I powered down again the phone and restarted the phone in normal mode. 4 new drivers were found and downloaded from Microsoft update:
Odin shows as being connected now:
Can you let me know what are the proper steps to update the firmware with Odin?
I would like to know also how I can backup the current firmware and settings.
Edit: I found my answers on the forums, it would not come with the search though. Thank you Google
I just updated my firmware to XXKI3 and it runs fine. Only problem is that when I start the app DLSR controller, which I've use often on earlier firmwares, I get a message saying "your device is not compatible with usb host mode".
I've used usb host mode before and it is well known that the Galaxy SII supports it, so what is going on?
Would apreciate some help on this!

I've rooted my S2 and been playing around with roms for a few months. But have decided to go back to the stock rom which I made a recovery of. I restored it and it seems fine. But I remember when I rooted it in the first place it did change something.
Before root, if I connected to the phone to usb it would load kies on the phone so I could use it with the kies app on my pc. But it doesnt do that. When I load kies on my pc all I get is :
" Reconnect the device in samsung kies (pc studio) mode. Current connection mode not supported".
Any ideas? I just want the phone back to as it was from the shop.
Depends. What SGS2 do you have ? I.E. What's on the sticker under the battery ? Gives us those details (as well as country/carrier) & then we can tell you where to find stock firmware to flash to return your phone to it's "original" condition.

How embarrassing. That did the trick.
I wanted to see if there was an update, but it says "your device does not support software updating via kies" and checking on the phone results in connection failed appearing on the screen. Is this to do with the rooting and non official kernal? Or am I being paranoid?
OK. I9100 on O2/UK, KJK1 is the latest available here. Download the package & flash it in the PDA section of Odin.
This will return your phone to stock. You should be able to get updates via Kies from now on. If you find you can't for whatever reason, do a search on here for Checkfus. Basically this app finds/allow you to download the latest official firmware for your phone model/carrier/country that you'd normally get from Kies.
Many thanks.
I used the XWKJ1 Stock Kernel:
Everything works find but the update still. Kies won't do it over usb app and once again in the phone it just says connection failed.
Um, I did say download/flash the whole package, not just the kernel
Ah yes, I must read properly.
How do I apply this one? odin, pda?
First sentence of my first post.

I put on the stock rom but I've having issues with the market. For apps for the UK it tells me my device isnt compatible (on the web interface), on the phone the apps just don't show. I did try market enabler, resetting cache, rebooting. But nothing works.
That reads like you have a stock rom for another country .
Check the rom and your CSC you want rom and CSC for the UK .

Hi All
The USB port on my handset seems to have died for all purposes other than charging. The phone is detected as an unknown USB device or no device is even detected in device manager. The phone simply reports 'MTP Connected' when the cable is attached. Tried with 3 cables, numerous PCs and a Mac, uninstalled/reinstalled kies and drivers but nada. There is no change if the phone is in download mode.
One of the first things I did to try and fix this was do a factory reset using the dialer service code. Sadly this removed my root as I was using stock XXKI4 + Zerg exploit. Even though I have a Samsung official signed rom on here it seems a wise idea to return it to my mobile companies version before attempting a return for servicing.
As I don't think it is possible to get root access back without a working USB port, is it possible to flash the official carrier branded firmware tars (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928) using the 3E recovery or are those specifically for odin?
Thanks

Try cleaning the port contacts with a little alcohol first.
If USB still not working;
Why lost root, do you still have superuser app. If not, enable USB debugging and reinstall superuser from market. You may have to reinstall busybox too. Use root check basic app to check for root access.
Use Mobile Odin app to flash firmware packages directly from sdcard. Official firmware from Intratech thread will remove root and restore to near factory condition. Factory reset etc and Check for any evidence (and remove) any previous root apps.
USB jig to reset Barry flash counter
Edit: then back for warranty
Edit 2: not sure if the jig will work for ki4 firmware, maybe try flash a earlier package before ki3, provided you can get this far.....
Best of luck

This seems to be also my problem with the difference that I use stock firmware. See my previous thread. Any help would be appreciated.

if his usb is not working he can't use Jig to reset counter.
his best bet is to buy a new usb with flex from ebay and change it himself it is pretty easy to do so.

I think it terms of the counters I am ok because the only thing that has been flashed is the signed XEU KI4 which had the old bootloader inserted by Intratech, no custom kernels. On closer inspection I found the root was still present so have been able to get back to stock with mobile odin ok. Sadly made no change to the issue so fear it is hardware.
I recently updated my I9300 to 4.3. The file I used to flash was obtained from sammobile.com:
TEL-I9300TDUUGNC1-20140418172117
I updated using Odin and all appears to have gone well. The phone is working and reports the correct version, expected baseband etc.
However, since I flashed, I am unable to get Odin to recognize the phone in download any more. The PC does not acknowledge the device was plugged in and no COM boxes light up. In short, the device seems to have the USB port disabled when in download mode now. Odin no longer seems to recognize the device.
Does anyone know why flashing 4.3 might result in Odin no longer recognizing the device?
To avoid clarifying questions:
- I'm using a Samsung original cable. It's the same one I used to flash the device to 4.3 with.
- I've tested this cable with another device, a GS4, which shows up just fine in download mode.
- I've installed the latest Kies.
- I've tried Odin3 v1.85 and v3.07
- I've tried looking at the PC and phone with a stern expression.
I've read that similar issues were solved by using a different lead, as short as possible. Also try another pc.

Mobile Odin requires a rooted phone, and I don't know any method of rooting a phone without Odin. Are there any methods that allow me to root a phone without first flashing something with the USB cable? Are there any apps that can do it? Perhaps using an update.zip with the stock recovery?
To answer above questions:
- I've tried on another PC
- Can't be PC, because this PC can flash other devices via Odin just fine. This is the only device that is playing up.
