[Q] XXKI3 no more usb host mode? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just updated my firmware to XXKI3 and it runs fine. Only problem is that when I start the app DLSR controller, which I've use often on earlier firmwares, I get a message saying "your device is not compatible with usb host mode".
I've used usb host mode before and it is well known that the Galaxy SII supports it, so what is going on?
Would apreciate some help on this!

Make sure you have your usb settings in the phone to Kies or to ask when you plug in. If you are running any launcher other then touch wiz, Kies will not recognize the device. So if you are running a different launcher, clear its defaults and go to the touchwiz home and then plug the USB in.
You probably downloaded the Kies for the I9000, it doesnt work on TMO Vibrant. There is no Kies for USA available for that model yet. Someone suggested to download the Kies from the Canadian Samsung site instead. I believe that Kies for USA will be made available when Froyo is released for the Vibrant.
I downloaded Kies for the USA yesterday and my Vibrant connects fine.

Where did you find this? On the Samsung site just now I get this message when looking for Kies on the US site:
Currently, there is no offiical version of Kies Stateside for the SGH-t959 (Vibrant).
I think he used the UK, or Canadian version but when you install it you select USA.
I used the Kies found @ http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as posted by abhiku in a similar thread. Works perfectly on win 7 64
Could you be more specific? That link redirects to http://www.samsung.com/apps/ which doesn't help much.
oh shiii, looks like they pulled the version i dl/d. thankfully, i store installers of this nature on a backup drive. uploaded to sharebee for ya: http://sharebee.com/8cf24208
Thanks, but that didn't solve the MPT USB driver failing.
what exactly is happening? like when you plug it in is it just saying "failed to install device" or is the pc recognizing it for usb mass storage, but nothing else. Some more details would be very helpful.
I have the home screen on TouchWiz
I plug the phone into the USB port
Several drivers install properly
I get the MTP screen on the phone for a few seconds and then it returns to the home screen. A dialog box on the computer says:
Device driver software was not successfully installed
MTP USB Device XFailed
I have tried 3 versions of Kies and 3 different USB drivers
I tried the I9000 version of kies... I could not figure out how to make it work with the Vibrant.
I dont use Outlook... what are the real benefits? I saw it an sync your music? Is there a basic guide/Q&A for Kies somewhere?
I tried to make it work on a rooted phone and it just fails.
First it wanted me to disable USB debugging, and when I did it failed to connect anyway - the software is a piece of rubbish.
Anyway Samsung states in their FAQ that Vibrant is not supported yet
http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa..._ID=314807&PROD_ID=560&PG_ID=-1&PROD_SUB_ID=0
the screen on the phone just flases the mtp showing a usb plug
The version of Kies that I successfully connected the Vibrant to is 1.5.1.10074_2.
Windows did all of the driver downloading for me lol. Here is a screenshot of the SGH-T959 connected.

I get the same. This software is junk. And what I saw of the interface makes it look like it was written in the 90s.
From what I am seeing on the international side, it may be that Froyo is installed using it so I was hoping to get things working in anticipation of that. Plus, it has a movie converter so its pretty simple to convert movies to the right format.

Ki1 - Firmware for USB Host mode?

Hello,
My SGS2 is running on Android 2.3.4 using the KI1/KI1/KI1 firmware.
Unfortunately USB Host Mode doesn't seem to work. From what I have read, I
need KH3 in order to have Usb Host support for my self-written applications.
Now the questions:
- Are there several firmwares which support USB Host Mode? If so, which should I install?
- Do I lose my warranty if I flash a different firmware?
I have seen this thread but I am not quite sure which firmware to install.
Moreover, please note that USB Host mode works fine if I just want to connect an USB Stick but this application crashes in the same way as mine.
The debugger tells me that the desired USB-method (e.g. getDeviceList) was not found.
Thanks for your help.
Best
Does no one know the answers?
Here is what I know so far:
1) Flashing a stock firmware vie Odin does not void the warranty
2) I've been told that KH3 supports the USB HOST API.
Please correct me if I'am wrong.
Will the XXKH3 firmware work on my SGS2?
I've got XXKI4 and it works.
so you can run applications like DSLRController?
Moreover, can I directly flash from XXKI1 to XXKI4?
Thanks
offcourse you can flash ,reverse too if you want to after ,download stock firmware from here, you got guide too : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

My USB Mount only works on Villainrom now..

Hey so I've been using Villainrom happily for a while now but recently tried out cyanogenmod which worked fine except for no USB mount. I figured it was just the rom and went back to Villainrom, USB working fine again.
With ICS themes being available to checkrom and batista roms, I gave them a go and found that USB Mount doesn't work on these either
I'm back on Villainrom 3.0 now after downloading PC drivers from google, samsung, and just about every source mentioned on XDA + search engines plus installing Kies and (almost considered going back to stock everything with Odin) no luck. The error message is USB Device malfunctioned in a big balloon message on the trey.
The phone will charge but not recognize a USB device being attached for mounting, tried turning debugging on and off, and starting USB from wifi.
Not a big deal as I can mount USB Now on VillainRom. But I'm super curious as to why none of the other roms are working for me
I have the original USB cable as well as another third party one. For some reason my laptop responds better to the third party one so I've always used that, tried both but no results.
Specs:
Windows 7 64 samsung laptop
Samsung Galaxy S2
Baseband: 19100XXKI1
Kernel: [email protected] #20
Build: VillainRom 3.0
Phone made in Korea, imported to New Zealand, currently operating in Korea
Any suggestions appreciated
XXKI1 is my baseband... could that be the problem?
Cool, if anyone comes here looking for help with Samsung MTP Device not working, uninstall ALL of your USB drivers and reboot. solved

[Q] OTG different after flash

Hi,
After updating (flashing through odin) my GB Stock to 2.3.6, i dont get the msg "USB Host Cable Connected" which I was getting before. And apparently even if I connect a device i dont get any notification that either a keyboard or mouse has been attached. Is this normal ?
Edit: Was searching online and found out that i have USB Host Driver missing, any1 know of a way to install the drivers without recompiling a kernel ?:/
I tried USB host diagnostics and it states that Android API does not claim support but at the end it states Overall, OS support = yes, what does that mean?

[Q] Cannot connect via USB period.

Hi.
Doesn´t matter what pc i connect to but all are win8
usb debug is on, unknown sources is on, installed Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit v7 and Samsung_USB_Driver_1.5.16.0 on pc, Odin 3.07 does not see any connected device. phone makes the noise when connect to usb and charghing just no reaction from pc or any reaction from android os pulldown menu.
I installed that leaked 1.3gb arab official samsung rom since i wanted to use my allshare cast dongle, tho I seem to need to use triangle away in order to get a allshare cast connection with my tv, and to use triangle away i need super user acces for which i was going to use ODIN with CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.tar.md5
Has the USB port been pshysically damaged? i just did a factory reset, back to the default original leaked 4.2.1 which did nothing to solve my problem.

Go to pc system device manager, is the phone listed under connected usb devices or has a problem noted?
If it is there and shows the correct drivers then the problem is on the phone, I'd try going back to EMB5 stock first - rather than a leak.

okidoki, now i am confused! see screenshot.
what is EMB5? and if it's a rom can i still make it work with my current issue?
Do you have an entry for Samsung USB controller within the Universal Serial controllers, if not then the device isn't being recognised.
By EMB5 I meant flash the genuine stock Samsung 4.1.2 ROM via odin, not some leaked version of 4.2.
This will test if your issue is hardware or software related.
Finally, you are trying to connect the phone to odin in bootloader mode - right?

You mean power + volume down + home button? yes. tried it, used t recognize it that way.
Is there ANY way to root my device NOT using the usb port, I'm going to assume it's been damaged somehow (beer, maybe a smal shallow bath) It did act weird a short period afterwards with making the "connected and charging beep sound" and un-doing it, then re again but all that dissapeared pretty quickly, like the day after. Otherwise the phone is in pristine condition and not even a scratch on it despite heavy usage through usage since bought in July.
IF I send it in for service, do you have any good advice for me on how to approach them with my odds being the best, I mean, custom rom, but that should'nt matter when they test the port and notice it doesn't work for them either, right?
Jesus christ Maria, booze damages has cost me more than the actual alcohol and this is Sweden we're talking about, most expensive place on the planet.

Warranty void if they say so you can argue the point .
