Photon IS LTE READY! - Motorola Photon 4G

I was looking through the build prop n I noticed we have lte files in our build prop, idk why people are soo worried about sprints changes soon...
Sent from my MB855 using XDA Premium App

That build.prop was taken and edited from a verizon device. That's why it also has so many references to VZW.
That is not a reliable source right now as to whether or not the phone has LTE.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium

Annnnd another one, when you have an Offical statement from Motorola themselves that's when ill believe it. Same with ICS. Time will only tell. If they do release a statement it would be closer to the launch of lte if you think about it because sprint doesn't want to say oh yeah this one is ready for lte then it would be hurting sales for the others that don't have lte in it. Motos demand would sky rocket on sprint and that new shiny iphone would never be sold lmao
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium

I agree with that.

Smh...first person to look at the build. prop were ya?
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium

More importantly, forget anything you find on the phone.
The phone simply isn't certified for use with LTE, either from lightsquared or from (proposed LTE from) clearwire. Check the FCC certifications, they are public.
Even if Motorola releases an LTE Photon, it would be a different photon that has gone through the FCC certification process meaning you would have to rebuy the phone or Sprint would have to recall/replace the current Photons (highly unlikely).

Sprint and LightSquared 4G LTE!!!

Hey guys just wanted to share that according to this http://www.androidcentral.com/sprin...-lte-network?utm_source=ac&utm_medium=twitter Sprint and LightSquared will be providing 4G LTE.
What do you guys think will happen with us Wimax 4G customers when they start providing LTE?
I personally think that by then our contract will be near to be ending and we'll be getting early upgrades for our LTE phones but it might be earlier you never know...

Also, the next generation of Qualcomm's processors have 3G/LTE support. I doubt we'll see this network up and running while these phones are still relevant. So during your next phone purchase, it might be important.
Just read an article about lightsquared 4g lte. It said something about using 10mghz block. What does that mean to us and if the are referring to spectrum wjat does that mean as far as building penetration and speeds?

Motorola Rep Says Photon Has LTE Chip!

Just got off phone with Motorola and they confirmed the Photon has a LTE chip installed! I called sprint and they said it didn't. Somebodies lying, my bet is sprint.
My guess is that the Motorola rep is confusing that for 4G in general. I highly doubt the Photon has LTE.
Now, I certainly wouldn't be disappointed if it does, but I imagine that would have been in the FCC certification.

I highly doubt this, but my buddy works at the mobile division in Libertyville IL (My town! Woot woot Google! ) and he works on the development of the LED flash for all the phones cameras. Im sure he will have insight about this, ill post back what he says.

i'm too lazy to search youtube, has anyone done a teardown of this phone yet? I mean its not magic, if there is a LTE chip inside you'd see it. Granted I'm not willing to doante my phone to such a process but I mean phones break, you'd think someone who broke their Photon had to have tore it apart by now to see its guts.
I doubt they would have added an expensive piece of hardware just for the heck of it. The fact that it isn't touted as a feature to"future proof" the phone leads me to assume it isn't there.
The build.prop in system has alot of refrences to an LTE radio...but then again it has quite a few refrences to VZW as well....

The hole in that thought is the matrix is on ATT(GSM) which is different from VZW in more ways then one.
The VZW references is due to the you can roam in VZW and a possible launch of the phone on VZW.
It seems that this phone has a lot of Q's surronding the radio freq's it uses so we are going to need to find a good tear down and look to that for answers.
Ok so in case people didn't know, LTE uses sim cards for the 4G. But it can't be in the photon, sprint wont have it for some time.
My buddy at Motorola replied to me "wimax". So I guess its not LTE ready and that moto rep is misunderstanding that sprints 4g is different. After all, this is the first moto android phone on sprint

Plug the photon in and look in device manager, it has an LTE modem period. There is no argument here, find it for yourself. Sprint will have LTE but not for awhile, as for the Photon working on it, who knows, but I am damn sure that it is capable of it. If you are asking a Sprint Rep any questions about a phone, 97.38782% of them don't know much about them, yes there are a few who actually do their homework on each and every phone they come across but that is few and far between. ( And in case you work at Sprint and you are reading this, don't take it personal, I'm just saying that most reps sell phones, they don't study them and know them inside and out) As for Motorola, who knows, it all depends on who you talk to, but I would believe one of them over a random Sprint rep who 'sells' phones for a living, being that Motorola actually built the thing.
But all you really need to do is plug it in and look for yourself.

Now that is interesting indeed
It just might have a LTE radio. Maybe Sprint's plans are starting to show up in current and future phones? Here is an excerpt:
If Sprint were to tap into Clearwire’s LTE network it wouldn’t gain any additional coverage beyond its current 4G footprint. It would gain additional capacity, but it would come at a price. Since Clearwire’s LTE wouldn’t even cover existing WiMAX markets completely, Sprint will need to deploy dual-mode WiMAX and LTE devices. That’s already a tall order for device makers, but Clearwire is using an unpaired spectrum configuration for LTE, meaning Sprint will need LTE chips not only for Clearwire’s 2.5 GHz frequencies but in a time-division duplexing (TDD) mode that no other operator uses in the U.S.

There may be some logic to this from Moto perspective...
It 4g and it a world phone...it suports cdma and gsm...
But is it also the first "4g" "world phone"? having both wimax and LTE ?(you got the sim like verzion LTE phones need)
So for Moto one hardward build for all world markets...and would also make it one hell of a development phone for google android to test everything on
Would the EVO 3d and Samsung Galaxy 2 people crap if true....
A phone with all these radios cdma, gsm, wimax and LTE would be hacker heaven
Who knows could be source of unlocked 4g issues that just the Photon seem to have ... that bootstrap has an extra radio to set up
===One other thing I recall Sprints Touch pro 2 "world phone" was not certified for GSM by FCC for US so radios were not listed on FCC doc...but it had them
Other thing in all the Photon "tear down" ive seen...ive never seen the chips because of how the lable sits in the battey compartment covers the chips...you would need to destroy the phone to see

Sprints LTE Roll Out hit a Major setback the other day with LightSquared pretty much getting permanent denial, so its up to Sprint and Clear to roll out LTE now - I don't see it being done any where on the scale they were hoping to now with the speed they were hoping to now.
We all know how well Clear does with management.
Another Epic Fail. This will just be another case of Sprint not providing the service that people have been promised in the past. The same with old 4G that we never got here in Phoenix Arizona. We were promised it would become available August 2010 and never got it. Then were told they would not roll it out because LTE would be coming and not it will probably not be.
It would be nice if it will be true but I am in another country witch dose have lte is there a program that I can use to reprogram mine now?

Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
LightSquared is a joke and will never get LTE approval. The bandwidth they are currently on the were using for free and took a gamble and lost. The LTE they proposed would interfere with all GPS satellits in orbit. Do you think the entire world is going to take all of that down and put new ones back up? NO! Easier for FCC to say "f**k you" and rightfully so.
I dont see sprint giving anyone damm thing. Satan will Ice Skate outta hell before Sprint give you something for free.
lastly, member kennypow3rs beat this horse sometime back, Photon does NOT have LTE Radio!!! FCC has pictures of the phone apart. The only way would be take it to Sprint, have them remove current WiMax Radio, put back a LTE Radio, and put it back together. And you know how I know for a fact thats not gonna happen? Go to your Sprint store and ask to speak to a technica Rep. My brothers dog's know more about a Photon then they do!!
But, In Sprints defense, they maybe ****ty now, but As I said with the merger, They have free Government money bo blow, @ $23+Billion if I remember correctly. (Thats correct, Uncle Sam is paying them (well, actually Nextel, but that's just technical crap) to roll out new crap!
Another quote on the LTE timeline by Sprint: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...any-windows-phones-in-the-near-future-either/
Sounds like 4 LTE markets by middle of this year and who knows for remaining 2012.

This reminds me of the BetaMAX vs. VCR battles of 30 years ago. BetaMAX was actually a better device, sadely they dumped all of there loot into it. When the studios pulled towards VCR, that was the nail in their coffin.
If Sprint was not so greedy to make a buck, they could have saved on the WiMax mistake. But as I posted eariler, they got loot to blow and its not theirs!

The point of lightsquared was to broadcast lte from satellites. Was essentially going to give them near 100% coverage in the us with the flip of a switch.
If they are out of the picture then we are back to getting 4g from towers which will take years. To build out.

i read from some recent articles, Lightsquared has been stating a pretty solid argument (in my opinion) that the first test was purposely rigged, a board member on fcc or somethin was from a GPS company, they used old out dated gps devices that was being interfered with because of careless manufacturing (faulty design) fcc took it to courts/congress to help investigate while also redoing the testing of their network and gps interference
i probably left a lot out ill try to find links

Haha because Wimax blows and I would rather rely on Sprint to build out a 4G network than Clearwire to execute a 4G plan. We all know how Clearwire did with Wimax and lets just say its not complete. Also I would rather have Sprint on a 4G standard that is compliant to every other major carrier and follows the 3GPP standard and plus LTE is much better than Wimax.
Also I am tired of the 2.5 Ghz poor indoor penetration spectrum. I would rather have Sprint's 800 and 1900 Mhz spectrum for LTE and only rely on Clearwire for supplemental LTE capacity instead of relying entirely on Clearwire. I hope Clearwire succeeds and becomes really profitable because that just means that Sprint will be more profitable since it owns a 54% stake.
Maybe when clearwire is profitable they can begin to start expanding again but I don't see this happening until 2015-2016 at the very earliest but they need to focus on getting back into the black.
Light squared may be doomed but sprint still had clear. They are worth a hell of a lot more now since Verizon's huge priced spectrum buy a few months ago. They were set to be gobbled up by sprint but now the value of their spectrum is greater than sprints market cap. Having spent some time with a network engineer for clear, they aren't doing as bad as people think. Sprint will probably end up with much more spectrum than att has now for lte at least with their partnership. Clear will contract out bandwidth to many companies though. You have to remember that even Verizon is pretty limited and will face some problems as lte is more widely adopted. They have only about 10-15mhz of bandwidth.

Anyone upgrading to Samsung Note II?

Like me? I have an upgrade available and I figure I should use it ASAP. I'd go for the SIII but no international support (FYI: Note II does not have a removable SIM. grr)
way too big to be used as a phone for me..
I plan on it, though on tmobile rather then sprint
I'm going to get the note 2 on Verizon.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
I'm a little miffed as to why the note 2 doesn't support SVDO while it's GS3 counterpart does. Even so it's still a toss up between the note and the S3 for me.
Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
All of the phablets are too big for me. Hell, even the new 4.7" screens while very nice to look at, seem outside of normal size to me. I'd probably go GS3 if Sprint retention would offer any reason for me to upgrade my contract, but since they won't and CM10 keeps my MoPho alive and kicking, no need to spend the money.
I plan to at least check it out tomorrow. If I like it enough I will pay full price for it. Now way am I locking it into a 2 year extension when Sprint doesn't even know if LTE will ever come to my area. If I don't like it, I may settle with the Iphone. Either way the Photon has got to go.
This guy is, my photon and evo 3D are both out of commission(photon dropped, signal is rendered useless) (evo 3d, failed digitizer), so, why pay to get those fixed right now when I can buy a beast!!!....with the latest version of Android...and a cool pen, lol, but i'll still get my photon and evo repaired in my leisure time, but the note 2 is gonna be my daily driver for a long....long time

Bought a S3 off contract from some poor fool on craigslist who needed money badly.. 200 dollars was a steal. Note 2 looks pretty tempting, but i've got a while to wait till my contract is up. Sprint's version has embedded SIM....thus outrageous international rates.
I was going to get this, but the lack of international sim support makes it useless for me, I have about 5 upgrade eligibility's that I can't use because of sprints stupid policy of embedding sim cards. Sprint has yet to release a world phone other than iphone's since the photon and I may have to change carriers if they don't release a world phone again.
Maybe later...
I tried it out and the size didn't seem to feel any different in my pocket (I was using a friend's) and probably would upgrade but I plan on moving in a few months (moving for school) and probably should wait to see what area I'd be in first especially since I seem to use my phone for everything but a phone most of the time.
