Ok so some Guy did a post complaining about how doubt its cutting off his service, and in one of the replies, a portion basically says that tethering without paying is illegal, so is using that application to tether illegal? Just wondering

Not sure if its illegal so to say but its definitely a breach of contract. If they caught you they can terminate your service. Doesn't happen often but it could.

Exactly.

Not illegal and cell phone contracts are not worth the paper they are printed on in half the states in America anyway. Just as long as you don't run torrents, you should be fine.

I downloaded 1 but that is it...

I don't believe that usb tethering is illegal per say, as long as you don't use it in a way that is "illegal" (i.e. copyrighted material) just the same way wireless tethering isn't "illegal" its just against your terms of service since every carrier would like extra money from that feature.

ive been waiting for a cell phone company to institute a phone exchange program for the people who like to change phones to the latest releases. i figure it would include basically a deductible, which the $ amount would determined on your phones current worth or possible a flat amount such as $150 and your vibrant for the vibrant 4g or something to that affect.
anyone heard anything about cellphone companys talking about this at all? id love it because i certainly can't afford a $600 phone every 6 months. And the costs don't seem to really be getting cheaper for the latest phones.
I know you go to tmobile and you could exchange to a newer phone by giving yours and some money too..

I think best buy is starting a buy back program designed for that reason of new tech coming out so quick.

No you can't. There is no exchange option. You can get discounts on a tiered basis. So its a prorated discount depending on how long its been since your last upgrade.

Sorry if I posted on the wrong thread.
I upgraded to the 3d first and decided to give the photon a try but somehow I am missing the 3vo. The sales rep told me that if I wanted to go back to the 3d she was going to charge me $35, is there a way to waive this fee?

If there are defectives with the photon then restocking fee should be waived.

Well I think that the call quallity is lower than on the 3vo, idk if that counts?

Do some research about known issues with the Photon and see if you are affected.
You could try calling retentions and see what they can do for you.

Can I still use my airave even thoo I cancelled the number for it
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
seriously? the airave has to be subdivision...just like everything else.
The answer is no since the air rave kit has to be on an active line of service on your sprint account just like a cell phone.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Why would you cancel the number?....
It's 4.99 a month for the service but you can get that fee waived if you call in to retentions and complain/threaten to cancel. Either way it's worth having if your coverage sucks because they work really well.

Yea its cuz I moved to a different apartment and I get full bars on everything even 4g, So I don't really need the airave no more, but wanted to know if I actually needed the other line to be able to use the airave LOL but now I know thanks ppl

My brother is thinking of getting an EVO 3D off ebay and it has a bad ESN but he wants to use it with Virgin mobile would that work or once it's a bad ESN it doesn't work with any provider?
Need to switch it with a new one... Which is illegal. Though I do have a broken virgin Android phone with a good esn
Sent from my SGH-T769 using XDA
Hmm illegal eh? Seems like he shouldn't get it then ha. Thanks for the quick answer.

Some providers will allow and network compatible phone on like boost. Virgin only allows web from phones they sold, so whether it's a good or bad sen does not matter. It has to be one in their system. As mentioned, you'd have to change the esn which is illegal. Possible yes, illegal yes.

I was talking with my friend the other day he is an AT&T regional manager and he said that unlocking my photons gem radio and buying service with AT&T was a federal crime. I do not believe it is but can someone give me some better info on if it is or is not?

he is full of crap/ it's your phone you can do what you want with it. and i'd tell your friend if he doesnt know what hes talking about to STFU
Alright thanks for the help

Lots of people unlock their radio for AT&T, no one is in jail yet.
I think he just wants me to buy an ATT phone
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
either he is woefully ignorant or he is lying to you. If he is lying to you, than he is not your friend.
Well he it was illegal because of ESN writing but unlocking the GSM radio does not write an ESN correct?
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
1. unlocking GSM radio is not ESN writing
2. ESN cloning of another phone you own and have not activated is not illegal (i.e. you are not using 2 phones with the same ESN on a network)
3. ESN cloning of a phone you do not own for the intent of stealing signal is illegal.
Hmmm do GSM networks even use ESN's?
