This is really killing me, someone please help lol heres how it goes
On boot, takes a good bit for the 3G icon to appear, eventually Phone has 3G icon gray with arrows then switches to D [still gray], i click something like a browser or Slack Radio it goes to connect and if its fast enough it does [icon changes to RED/GREEN arrows] but usually its a gray D, then the icon disappears completely. After about 60 seconds or so the icon reappears and I can continuing surfing the net/listen to music..etc. Then after about a song or 2 this happens all over again. Im in place with good reception and i just dont know what could be going on here. I tried pulling battery, doing the *228 option 2...anyone know how i can fix this
just tried hard reset, no dice
A nice excuse to call verizon and get a replacement device (most likely for free).
I've called them, they try and shoot me over to Samsung, samsung trying to tell me to get a hold of my 3G service provider...verizon did tell me i was due to upgrade, but i love this phone (when 3G worked) i just dont understand what froyo did, when im downloading stuff it works fine, but as soon as I stop and try to access something use 3G i have to wait for the 3G to "reboot" so to speak cuz thats when it disappears for minute, then comes back for me to use...but with streaming music you can see how this is an issue
I was having this same problem when they were pushing the EA28 update a couple of weeks ago which never successfully updated to my device I might add. I went into the Verizon store and after the rep spent about 10min on the phone with whoever.... Told me they were sending me a new phone. Received new phone with the EA28 update already installed 3G and all data worked GREAT! Attempted the Froyo update 6 times yesterday all unsuccessful and now the new phone I have is having the exact same problems with data connection. Comments and ideas would be appreciated. But ya better believe I'm goin into Verizon if the update attempt I'm doing now doesnt work.
I'd get another replacement from verizon tbh. If then it still doesn't resolve your issues ask to speak with a manager and tell him your situation. They might hook you up with a free upgrade.
Im going to go down to the store so I can get a face to face and show them whats happening. I mean i just wanted to make sure this wasnt some new thing on Froyo that im not understanding. I see it goes "D" [dormant] but it shouldnt disappear and take a minute to start up and let me use it right...thats poppycock!
Are you using "juice defender" by any chance?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
You're lucky that yours just takes a minute to re-establish the connection, mine will just keep giving me network errors and telling me to check network access ect., depending on what app/service I am trying to connect. Exactly the same things that happened when the EA28 updates kept failing on my last phone only 2weeks ago. Also the Froyo update that says will take 15min to download takes over an hour even though my 3g stays on constantly when downloading from Verizon.

Had it installed [but not in use] when I updated to Froyo, but I just did a hard reset and am still getting issues...
...my Froyo update came in in about a 1/2 hour or so, no drop issues ever when I was on 2.1, my 3G icon stayed in the status bar even when I was out of service range [it would go in to 1X] but on froyo its just disappearing no matter where i am]
This crap has happened ever since the first "froyo" modem leak for me (but not like I could call vzw and complain though until now) and had to resort to using the DL09 modem to increase my usage reliability by a small percentage. This crappy service only seems to affect people in certain regions, you all see where I live (look to the left) and you guys should update your profiles to reflect at least a region. I odin'd all the way to stock and did the ota's to froyo and ran stock froyo for 2 days with the same old ****ty results. I did get a replacement (in february) and still got the same exact dBm signal levels and data speeds at home that I had with the other device. But the voice mails with no missed calls and bulk texts and data lockups are really getting on my ****in' nerves. I'm so glad they finally did the ota cause I can guarantee that the issue will be wide spread in various regions. I spend all day driving around in a work truck with a coworker that has an epic (sprint) and he has absolute perfection in his service everywhere throughout the city. At the end of a 10 hour day I will have rebooted twice and have tws at 47% coworkers tws will be at 1% and he pays $35 less for unlimited everything, which is a kick in head too. Pondering etf to maintain my sanity and not be worried that my 70 year old mother is trying to call me with an emergency and having my **** go to voicemail. Now on to customer service to build a case. Ugh, pissed off rant over.
*edit* I use no juice defenders no task killers no set cpu or anything even remotely close to apps of that nature.
good day.
Not running juice defender or anything else for that matter, my phone is basically stock out of the box right now other than CWM 2.5.1, un-rooted. I did flash super user to phone after I received it, and that still appears in my apps list after factory reset but I am not rooted.
I've spent at least 8-10 hours [combined] searching the internet for issues like mine with the disappearing act the 3G icon is putting on, and i've noticed it to be a Froyo issue [even saw some complains on the Incredible on froyo and even on different networks other than verizon]. I'm not 100% sure its a Froyo bug, but either way it doesnt seem to affect everyone. I stream music a lot and i can't be having this damn 3G disappear on me and always reconnecting after like every 2 songs.....im off to verizon, i'll let you know what happens [tho they are prob going to offer me some kinda upgrade like they did on the phone, but i was happy with this phone at 2.1 and overall still am, i just want my 3G to stop glitching!]

I agree, just want my 3G to work the way it is suppose to. Dont really want an upgrade because I've never really gotten an upgrade that I actually thought was an UP-Grade. *From Verizon anyway* Still downloading software update, been well over an hour and at 73%. At this rate Verizon store will be closed by the time I'm done with this update attempt.
"UPDATE FAILED or INCOMPLETE. reason: IP_START_UPDATE" Anybody know the possible causes of this failure?
Sounds like you are indeed losing your IP address. I have also had sporadic problems but they seem to be in low service areas. Typically I remain stationary and use local wifi so it is unconfirmed.

Just got back from Verizon, non of the techs could figure it out, i got this phone awhile back from a friend [so naturally theres no warrenty..etc] so im stuck gonna have to hit craigslist and such to find a new one, then sell this one i guess
FINALLY FOUND A FIX [or should i say it found its way to me thanks to myself posting this issue on multiple forums lol] I can confirm that method 2 has worked for me. Dont just dial *228 with fascinate already activated, you have to remove the service completely [by activating another phone is how i did it] then reactivate it and you should be good to go. Heres a write up.

Glad to hear it, i know how frustrating it is not knowing what is going on or how to fix it. I searched since Froyo OTA looking for an answer, luckily someone saw my plight and gave me that link as well so i thought i'd share it on all the android forums i have a name on. Cuz doin this never occurred to me and i tried everything else lol
So after rebooting about a week ago on BAMF Remix 1.7 (I think the ROM is irrelevant but just putting it in for information's sake), my 3g/mobile data stopped working. When I go into network settings, the Mobile network option is checked to connect to the internet and under APNs, there is a vzwinternet profile with a green (I'm guessing turned on?) marker.
I've tried various ROMS: BAMF, BAMF Remix, CM7, and even the Gingerbread variations of BAMF as well.
Also I've experimented with all of the radios (every one listed under the obligatory radio thread) and different kernels.
And lastly, I've wiped multiple times every time I've flashed a new ROM and have even formatted my SD card hoping it was some rogue application that disabled it.
So what can I do to bring back 3g/mobile data?
Note: Wifi, calls, and sms will works for me. MMS does not however.
I have the same problem but mine shows after rebooting, than say error when I try browser or anything that has to do with data, But works at times.
*WALK in the WORD*
Mine isn't working at all. Not even after rebooting.

How you checked with your Carrier? I'm with Orange UK and my 3g was down for 4 days once due to cell tower maintenance...
Might be worth a call to check!?

I suppose that would be the logical thing to do next before I start torching my Thunderbolt.
Thanks!

This happened to me, exactly as you've stated. I posted here but got no remedy. I tried all the things you've mentioned, reflashing the ROM, raeflashing the radio, etc. Nothing helped.
Finally, I had the idea to restore a recent backup from before I had the problem. THAT worked. I hope it helps you too.
I didn't have a chance to call during the day but I did head over to my friend's house who lives in a different area. She has VZW just as me and she was getting 3G on her blackberry but 3G/mobile data was still unavailable for me.
It's not a coverage issue but on my end.
While lurking around the mobile data settings, there was a profile for VZW under APN settings. Could someone post theirs so I could see if they match with mine? Maybe that's the solution to my problem?
I don't think it's rom dependent. I lost 4g the other day and I have yet to get it back. I have my own theories but the jerk at the VZW store wouldn't let me try my theory. I'm waiting for my usual rep to comeback, she lets me try just about anything I want. The rest are just dicks. I have tried swapping roms, radios, and all but going back stock to fix it. And nothing has brought it back. BTW, have you tried CDMA prl to see if you can get data at all? I can get 3g that way, but when I go into evdo/lte or lte only I lost all data. Also, do you have it in rev A mode under your modem settings?
I had this exact same problem with BAMF remix 1.6.3, to make this story short this is how it eventually got fixed:
Go into settings and do a check for new software.
This will force 3g to cut on. (Note: it may take a few times for the 3g to come on and STAY ON. It took me almost a day doing it about every hour.
Enjoy
Holy crap, that worked. Of all the things I tried and I couldn't get anything. Now LTE is back. You're awesome.

I have to go to work right now but yes it is turning on 3G at the moment but it's only using the up arrow (eg. uploading data but not downloading data). I"m guessing with a couple of more tries it'll eventually lock in.
If this doesn't work on gingerbread, I'll try reverting back to froyo and try it then as well.

Glad I could help.. I spent nearly two hours on the phone with Tier II support and they guy said.. well this is a long shot but try this. Didnt work the first time I tried it so he sent me a new phone but in the time it took to get the new phone, I kept trying and it finally locked in.
Ok, well I thought it worked. Every time I try it, it will give me the 4gLTE indicator, but if I open up anything that uses data it just says no mobile conectivity then after about 5-6 min it stops showing any data. Also, I can still go back to CDMA(PRL) and get 3g. It's just under 4GLTE/evdo and lte only.
BTW, for any other future reference, I started experiencing these issues right after I debloated (uninstalled) the blockbuster app.

keep trying... it will stick eventually
It's alright, I have a replacement coming tuesday. I just have to return to stock before then.
When you guys went to the software update option, during that duration when it was enabled were both 3G arrows animated? I'm only getting an up arrow (uploading).
I've been trying now for hours on the PRL setting and also cdma+lte/evdo auto
Well, I haven't been able to get this to work. Is there anything else I should try besides the software update trick before returning my phone to stock and returning it to VZ?
i had the same problem as you OP, but after pressing check new enough times and jumping straight into the browser, i got it to stick. took at least 12 tries, however and i'll see if it lasts.
love the franklin avatar btw!
also, is anyone using juice defender? idk if its coincidence or not, but i d/l the program last night and this is the first data connectivity problem i've had with the tbolt.
Yes, I had both arrows. But, for some reason when I would open the browser to google it wouldn't work. I tried about 4 times, each time it would show data, but I wouldn't have a connection. Also, it would show data being up and down stream, but I couldn't manage to get it to work when I tried it.
Heres's the problem. Last night i decided to go from Espresso Runnymede SIII back to stock to reflash the rom, due to some stupid glitches. Ive done this plenty of times with no problem but after following the guide to return to stock, i noticed that i had no service at all. I already tried dialing *228 and using both options 1 and 2. Option 1 says it was successful and option 2 will not work no matter how many times i try this. I have signal bar stregnth, but no 3g, 1x, etc... Ive also tried reflashing Espresso thinking it might have been a glitch with the stock rom. Also, i have tried reflashing the stock rom multiple times. Also, sorry if i posted this about an already made topic, ive seen a few similar ones but i didnt think that the threads accurately described my problem. At this point, any help would be appreciated, or else im going to have to go back to my crappy EnvTouch...
Easy enough. Turn off fascinate. Turn on envy touch dial *228 option 1 and activate it. Reboot. send a couple of texts and make a call. Turn off envy. Power on fascinate and redo the *228 option 1, reboot, *228 2, reboot. And you should get your data back.
good day.

I am hoping someone can help me with this problem I have read a lot of threads but none of them have any real solution.
My Verizon Samsung Fascinate 3G icon keeps disappearing and after 5-10 minutes comes back for maybe 1-2 minutes before it disappears again. it keeps doing this all day.
I have done these to see if it make any difference but no luck same thing happens.
1. I have pull out the battery for a while and put it back ( Noting Change )
2. I have restore back to stock roms ( Noting Change )
3. I have updated the radio and modem ( Noting Change )
4. I have called *228 and updated the PRL ( Noting Change )
If someone can please help me with this I really would amazing
Thanks
Again my 3G icon comes and goes every few minutes. when the 3G icon is gone my phone shows that is trying to connect to network (network mobile state: connecting)

has your phone been activated and used to make any calls?
when you say "restore back to stock roms" you're talking about version 2.3.5 with EH03 radio correct?
which custom ROM were/are you trying to run?
.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes my phone have been activated and was working fine till last week. I can still make calls anytime with no problems.
Yes I have restore back to and tried EH03, ED05 and EC09 and none of them fixes the 3G problem.
I was using geewiz-2.9.2 rom for the past year and had no problems but all of the sudden this happened

well at this point I don't know what else to say geewiz or stock should not have the issues you describe, could just be Verizon issue with signal in your area,,, I have seen mine struggle at different times of the year for no apparent reason at all...
EH03 should give the best reception but I remember running the others at different times too but not in the last year+
check this site and see if they report issues in your area

these are not that hard to pop apart to inspect it out...

I've had the gs5 for about two months and everything was fine. No updates to the phone or anything. Then all of a sudden for the past week, literally every call I get is choppy, breaking up, and just sounds screwed up. This only occurs on wifi calling. I attempted to update the firmware, that also did nothing. My mothers running a gs4 in my house ( my old phone ) and the wifi calling works perfectly. So it's not my wifi connection like I originally thought. I call the gs4 from the gs5 and the gs4 sounds great, and my gs5 is all messed up. I am running stock btw. Also I forgot to mention that the person on the other end of all calls sounds great and clear.
I am clueless right now because I rely on this service. Any ideas of what can help me or what can be the problem? I'm debating on getting an iPhone 6 because of this right now, something I thought I'd never do.
Thanks guys.

Why dont you try flashing a different modem via Odin? Solved my issue . My wifi calling is crystal clear. There are many to choose from . Also I am on NH5 modem and I creted tarmd5 since it wasnt listed in the second link.IPHONE 6 are you nuts ? LOL . Im not really into phones that you setup once and thats it . I like having unlimited options. Just my opinion

And now I factory reset phone and it didn't revert back to original os that came with the phone. What's up with that? Sigh nothing helped
Resetting the phone will not downgrade you back to the version that you got the phone with.
If you want to try downgrading it, you can use odin to flash an older version of software.
Try and do a speed test on both the phones while on wifi and see if there is a difference.
Maybe wifi throughput to that phone is too slow.
Either something wrong in the phone causing that or a limit on the router to that device for some reason. If QoS or filtering is on.
have you considered that it isnt the phone but rather your internet connection? maybe your connection is laggy (a lot of jitter) or something is eating up all the bandwidth or QOS is not setup...
