keep screen off when sms/mms received? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Is there a way to keep the screen from turning on when I receive an SMS? I really dont mind much that the screen turns on but having the screen turn on seems to mess with Missed Message Flasher which I want to use to remind me of missed calls, SMS, etc. Missed Message Flasher automatically turns off when the screen is on so when I receive an SMS and the screen turns on, Missed Message Flasher disengages and I dont receive any reminders.

If you are using GOSMS there is an option to disable the screen on feature

Sound notification for missed calls?

Since the vibrant doesn't have LED notification, is there any sound notification setting for missed calls, texts, etc...
Like if there's a missed call, the phone will start to sound off one BEEP like every 5 or 10 minutes.
I don't check my phone every seconds, so when I do check it, I always get missed calls and texts but I'm always a few hours past it.
Thank you.
No, I don't believe there's an option for that. You might be able to find soem third party application for messaging that offers that future, but I'm not sure.
There is the BLN (back light notification) that is included in certain ROMs, though I haven't seen it in a while. It enables the softkeys to light up when receiving a call or message etc.

Not sure about a app for sound but you can get noled off the market that will blink dots to let you know you missed a call text or whatever.
Try an app called FlashNotify. It does boths, flashing and notification sound.
SMSpopup had an option in it to repeat notifications for texts. For everything else I just use noled.

to stop the screen coming on for sms i've installed sms popup. you then switch off notifications in the standard sms app an let sms popup handle incoming sms messages and it has an option for leaving the screen off.
I've exactly the same problem, screen turning ON when receiving mail, exchange account!!!
Any solution????
sorry to bump this but has anyone got a solution ?
it's very annoying to receive an email and then find that my screen has turned on and then find that i've magically phoned someone, all while my phone is in my pocket. :-(
i'm surprised that there's not an option to stop the screen turning on ...
Bumping again - this is a major pain in the rump.
Like others, I have a feeling that this didn't happen before KE7.
bumping - had my phone for so long and only now after reading this thread noticed the issue
I have the same issue, though I am using NoLED with the lock screen.
So an email comes in, the phone screen flashes on and then the screen goes black with the email icon per NoLED settings. The flash on only happens with email and not with text messages or whatsapp notices.
This is weird indeed and I haven't been able to find a setting to solve this. This happens with the stock email app or the gmail app.

[Q] How to disable vibration for EVERYTHING EXCEPT FOR CALLS

Hello all,
I have a problem. I'd like my phone to only vibrate when I receive calls, and nothing else. Text messages should not trigger the vibration, nor any incoming emails. Only when someone else calls me.
Right now, my phone has vibration COMPLETELY disabled, meaning that even when people call me, it doesn't vibrate.
How can I mess around with the settings such that calls trigger the vibration?
I'm using the stock rom, if it makes a difference. Thanks!
I have disabled the test message vibration, as i use Go sms pro and i have disabled the vibration in it...
so only for calls my phone vibrates.
and for email.. I dont check mails in my mobile usually.. so u can disable vibration in ur email client app too
Individually go to each app settings and disable the vibration
Be Kind everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle
I never knew that you could individually change the application's vibration settings! That should do the trick.
I currently have the default Messenger App. What I've done , is go to Settings>>Notification Settings>>Select Ringtone>>Silent. I've left the notification under Settings>>Sound to "Vibrate to always", so hopefully that works?
And on a side note, what are the advantages (if any) of using Go SMS Pro over the stock SMS application, besides customizable themes?
Edit: Doing what I've described above does not give me the desired results. The phone still vibrates when text messages arrive.

[Q] In Coming Calls and Screen

I have had my G3 for over a week now and there is one issue I can not seem to solve. Anytime I receive an in coming call the phone rings but the screen does not turn on and show me who is calling. I have to fiddle around on a blank screen to have it activate. Every and I mean every phone I have ever had over the years, the screen would always turn on during an in coming call to show who is calling. Am I missing a simple settings somewhere to activate this feature, any advise on this is welcome. Thank you.
Edit: Just to verify, Yes I have the option under Calls activated to have a Pop up on incoming calls, the issues is the screen is not turning on during the in coming call and I can not figure out why.
OK, 37 looks and no one has nothing, that scares me.

Sms screen on

I have an issue that keeps causing me to hit the emergency call button on my phone.. Every time I receive a text message my screen turns on. I've tried literally everything that I can think of. I tried turning off all notifications from the default sms and downloading go sms and disabling screen on, that didn't work. I tried freezing the sms app and using go sms, that didn't work. Finally I deleted all 3rd party apps and turned off all notifications for sms then had my wife send me a message, and my screen turned on with no sms notification but it's still turning on when I receive a sms. It's only when I receive sms that it happens. I have a ZTE grand x Max plus Rooted and ready to try anything that you guys have to offer. Amazing phone other than that little annoying "feature"
