Thanks a lot for all the effort you put into this, googlehome!
I will be testing this, when I get my device back.
sorry to be a noob but...
What's the advantage of EXT4 over EXT3?
What is the use of tinkering with governor and io schedule rs?
What is the use of swap?

Doesn't boot on my Hardware.
I have an EU-bought ViewPad 7 with stock 2.2.2 and Polish language.
I have PR3.7_128 baseband vesion, 4027_3_420 compilation name.
I rooted it and successfully run an overclocked kernel on it (864MHz).
Am I running ITE hardware?

FYI - all, I've submitted a request (last week) to VS's support for US region (along with mine's S/N) to release/provide the driver/source file/kernel for it. Have yet to get a response - thus far, searching on the net haven't turn up anything .... The online/interactive support site isn't very helpful with poor availability of general information, if any, but let's see

It probably didn't install properly, especially if yours is using ITE hardware.
Boot into Recovery, do a full system wipe and then "Restore" your last known & working verison.
ITE IT7260 chip
Is it possible that an IT7260 chip is used in viewpad 7?
I found the touch sreen picture of viewpad 10S using IT7260:

That's the Viewpad 10. The 10s is a different device and does not support dual boot like the 10. NO idea about the touchscreen hardware though.

hi there !
First I would like to thank all the cookers working hard on getting our device even better !
I understood that the problem with having an overclocked kernel are the drivers for ITE touchscreen.
My viewpad is quite new and was shipped with ITE screen (as with non ITE roms, the screen just doesn't work !)
I might help you then, if you can tell me where to find the drivers or whatever, i could post them here so you could cook an overclocked kernel with ITE.
BTW I updated my rom with the latest official one from viewsonic with ITE (FM6-3350-0-1008-A01.nb0) and it works really good, the only thing is the ugly welcome splashscreen !
I attach here the boot.img from my clean install (backup with cw recovery) and if you need the whole backup, i'll be glad to put it here too !

A 'Team Highly Medicated' Release:
Hello everyone,
As highly anticipated, here is my port of dumfuq's overclocking patches ported to 2.6.35.10.
If you test it and Android either doesn't boot or is very slow, then you are experiencing an incompatibility that cannot and will not be fixed. Please note, I do not know if this kernel is compatible with Android versions below Gingerbread (2.3) because the Interprocess Communication (IPC) agent version differs.
http://www.multiupload.com/CNKQEWXIUH
Notice (added 7/20/2011): It has been made apparent by users and myself that as your battery gets lower, the slower your phone will become despite it showing it is overclocked. This is most likely because 787MHz requires the max voltage and the phone is unable to maintain that voltage as the phone loses charge. While batteries are measured in mAH (milliamps), the voltage exerted from the battery progressively decreases with the loss of mAH. The reason it requires this voltage is because of FSB and CPU multipliers... it is otherwise impossible to obtain that clock-rate with lower voltages. I will investigate possible workarounds.
No need to disable perflock. Remember to use SetCPU to actually overclock! Interactive governor enabled by default - it's a beauty!
Version 3, UPDATE 6/22/2011 @ 8:18pm CST:
- dumfuq was very helpful and I have (hopefully) now fixed the instability issues present in version 2.
- Due to complications with how frequencies are stepped I am limiting the max frequency to 787MHz.
- Please note, this is a TEST version and I am seeking any feedback regarding stability.
Version 2, UPDATE 5/27/2011 @ 11:24pm CST:
- Fix wifi.
- Actually enable Interactive governor by default.
Like it? Click the "Thanks" button - or even better "Donate"!
Peace out.
Is this the kernel that was mentioned to be added to the Salsa Slide ROM?
Although I suppose that's more of a question for Ohgami.
Can I just use this with it anyways? Thanks nbetcher!

Just want to ask you what do you mean by "Apps2SD included"?
Is this meaning that you have included ext2,3,4 support directly in the kernel (not as module)?
Thanks.

From the O.P.
Apps2SD included: http://www.multiupload.com/9EVC6CL8FP (your ROM needs Apps2SD support though!)
Non-Apps2SD: http://www.multiupload.com/8N1JPBM4N0
(By "Apps2SD", I mean the old-school Ext2/3/4 separate partition on your SD card. Either of these zips support the crappy Froyo (or higher) "Move to SD" function.)
I removed Perflock from the kernel entirely, so no need to disable Perflock.

I don't know if the Legend has the same frequency/voltage/bus speeds as Latte, so I can't promise that this would work on another device like the Legend. I'm learning that although the Legend is similar to Latte, they do have some very different parts.

At the Moment I advise to not use Overclocking as I still need to patch some PLL values which means OC maybe slower than set to 600 MHz
Download Zombie Panic Extreme Edition
Warning: Do not use if you are a regular user, its for hardcore overclockers. Zombie Panic Extreme Overclocking Edition be careful with Overclocking!
Features:
- upto 864 MHz with patched PLL
- features (and maybe bugs) from ZPKernel v1.61 integrated .
might be unstable with higher frequencies!! be careful do not set cpu speed on boot while checking frequencies

This Kernel is not using FXP or other sources, i started from scratch with SE kernel 492.
no need with Kernel v1.2
Just in case anyone wants to use DroidWall which uses one xtable module as well which is netfilter owner, extrace the zip file and put on /system/lib/modules/xt_owner.ko
edit hw_config.sh in /system/etc/ at end and include this line:
insmod /system/lib/modules/xt_owner.ko
and droidwall is working like it should.
next kernel will have this also included.

Mate, you should be able to help yourself in such case, before doing that boot loader/kernel thingy :/ you also could have provided more info...
well, first steps I think::
1) if your touchscreen is only working WEIRD I guess you just have the power cable plugged in... unplug it, wait few seconds and then your touchscreen should response as usual. otherwise ref lash default se kernel...
2) if touchscreen does not work anymore... well flash default kernel and wait or build own custom kernel

So, preview of SEtweak (pre1) is out!
It's quite incomplete, without Synaptics DT, not netfilter and OC. I also forgot to enable NTFS, sorry
Just a proof of concept for those unwilling to unlock bootloader.
X8gesture will insmod fine.
Cypress users: remove DT module because this kernel already includes it!
Includes CIFS and tun - who need it, will know, who doesn't need it/know, don't bother
Download: -not working-
FTF bundle. Place to flashtool\firmwares, in GUI select X8 SEtweak-pre1 FW and flash it.
FreeXperia logo instead of SE standard, and [email protected] instead of [email protected] are easiest way to see that you have custom kernel.
Forgot to note: this kernel has gingerbread ramdisk, meaning it's for GB ROMs! Maybe works on stock, but may won't be stable!
Will include:
* Cypress dualtouch
* Syaptics fake dual touch
* custom netfilter tables
* overclock
Standard SEtweak features:
* NTFS
* ext4
* swap
* USB OTG experimental
* tun/tap/CIFS

Hmm... S1Boot actually handles partitions so I'm not sure... also, yaffs2 FS is made specially for NAND flash chips in phones, so ext4 shouldn't give much boost - absolute need for ext4 conversion is present only on Samsung phones which use rfs by default, and that's quite slow.

Will there be a dual-recovery,or only CWM like in FXP kernel ?

Why would we need million of recoveries? CWM is just fine and enough, and supports restoring from xRecovery.

I guess that the problem is that some devs didn´t migrate to CWM, and if we switch to this ROM which is using only CWM, then we need to back to stock, install xrecovery and then the other ROM , since CWM doesn´t install zip files made for xRecovery.

Well, ask ROM dev to convert amend script to edify, or do it yourself with aZuZu's tool. I will not include xRecovery because CWM supersedes it and it's official FXP's recovery.

You can convert the zip for xRecovery to for CWM by a simple tool. Get it here
I had tested it, and it's really easy and works fine.
This is a repackaging of DooMLoRD's kernel for the Ray - this is only for the stock Rom at this time, and will not work on MIUI or CM.
It's based on DooMLoRD's Github sources, original thread with more information about the Kernel is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172885 - all thanks should go to him, I've edited very little, simply changed some of the config to suit the Ray and tested it.
Brief summary:
* Overclockable to 2GHz (set at 1GHz to start - made sure of it this time!)
* Enabled most of the schedulers so you can choose your favourite (brazillianwax, smoothass, SavagedZen, interactiveX, lagfree, minmax, Scary, smartass, interactive, conservative, ondemand, userspace, powersave, smartassV2, performance).
[UPDATE]
Had a look at the issues with the 'Flash' on the camera not working - this is now fixed.
Also, after being requested by a couple of people I've recompiled it for MIUI - you'll have to flash the second version for it to boot. (Please choose the correct one, flashing the wrong one will let you access CWM-recovery, but the system won't boot.) MIUI isn't working at this time.
Updated Kernel can be found here for Stock Roms:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17615284/DoomKernel-2011-12-28-1201.img
[Edit] Kernel for MIUI booted, but became unresponsive after it's been on a while. Taken the link down until I can find a day or two where I'm not using my phone so I can flash MIUI myself and look into it.
Thank you very much for this good present !
I just would ask if it is compatible with bheremans' MIUI rom, and if it's not if someone can port it, or explain to me how it can be done.

Think I may have missed a few - shall go back and check when I get a chance.
* Can't remember if I managed to get it working with the latest Ramdisk or not. At one point I was using it with a previous Ramdisk but not sure if I eventually got it working... (Currently the CMW Recovery is version 5.0.2.7?) I'll have to check on this, if it's using an old RamDisk then some of the features may not be available.
Initial release - I've been using it for a day now and it seems quite stable.

No idea, I think that MIUI, CM7 and Stock Roms require different Kernels (or some serious customisation) so i'd be guessing: No. But it's just a guess.

DooMLoRD added this to his Kernel, but I don't have any requirement to record my calls so can't confirm if it's working or not. Feel free to test it out - you may find yourself in luck!
Bah! Uploading failed the first time, but it's fixed now.
If you downloaded the file before I posted this, and only have a 1.2MB file then please DONT FLASH IT. It shouldn't mess anything up permanantly but your device won't boot.
I've uploaded the file again (to the same location), please re-download and flash this one (it should be just over 6MB)
Please make it compatible for miui?;D.......

To port kernel : nothing special, just compile it with :
CONFIG_VMSPLIT_3G=y
# CONFIG_VMSPLIT_2G is not set
and
CONFIG_PAGE_OFFSET=0xC0000000

Hi Hartej, sorry but even with your second upload. The kernel doesn't boot. It stays at black screen (not even the SE logo)
@hartej: some notes ...
thinking its a good choise using DooMLoRD's kernel as your base, congratulations for your wise decision
some minutes befor i fastboot'ed (temporarly) your image (i.e. fastboot boot <image>)
# kernel cpufreq defaults is ondemand 245760/1862400Hz - no max 1GHz as you'r thinking?
some LITTLE change-requests from me - please
# /proc/config.gz support - a great help for every self-builder
# init.d support - importent i'm thinking, i modifyed init.semc.rc in initrd.img in your boot image for myself (serves only as a example)
service sysinit /system/bin/logwrapper /system/xbin/busybox run-parts /system/etc/init.d
user root
oneshot
# a git respository of your kernel for self builder
ok, thats all for NOW, thank you for your good work.
greetings
Doesn't boot
I've downloaded your present(RayDoomKernel-2011-12-18.img / 6.23MB) and flash it on my Ray with fastboot tool. But it doesn't boot, just shows me black screen.(Not even show me SE logo ) Anyway I appreciate your great effort.
is it for stock 4.0.2.0.A.42 firmware
Oh I tried.Doesn't boot with the 4.0.2.A.042 FW.
@hartej
glad to see u back on this
some devices cant handle 1.6Ghz+
thats why i keep 2 kernels
2.0Ghz
and
1.6Ghz
for other things u can check my kernel-ramdisk

Lol, I'll upload the right one eventually! Just tried downloading and flashing this myself, only to discover that I'd mistakenly uploaded the latest version instead of the working one. Still playing with getting the ARC ramdisk working with the Ray, possibly because of the speed issue DooMLoRD quotes above which is the reason for the black screen - the Kernel itself is identical, it's just a difference in the RamDisks.
I've uploaded the working one now - sorry for any confusion!

Please for MIUI ??
Works Great
Two thumbs up!
It is quite stable even at 2ghz.
But I would stay at 1.5 with smartass v2 considering battery life.
Thank you
-Ray User from Korea.
doesn't work with FXP050 on my Ray ... It does boot into the system but it doesn't show any submenus or option menus ... they are there, i can select by where i remember them to be but it is not graphicly shown
This Kernel is for STOCK Rom !!!! not for cyanogen mod.

To flash, use the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot play.img
^^ replace play.img with play-cdma.img if you are flashing CDMA kernel.
WiFi modules do not need to be flashed as I kept the kernel string the same as the stock kernel, meaning stock WiFi modules can be used
If you are coming from DooMKernel, you will need to flash STOCK WiFI Modules, DooM has provided them on his topic
If you want to donate, I dont have paypal (yet) so instead you can click the thanks button

Cool, but please sort out the front page articles, grammar is quite bad
E.g on the article HTC: ICS Update Announced
Every Android user bothered about his version of android should know what ICS is, if not, it is Google’s newest version of the Android OS (4.0) and has many improvements over Gingerbread, not mentioning a total UI redesign!
That should be "Not to mention"

Hi keiran,

It should still boot (I have the default CPU speed set at 1024MHz (1GHz) on the kernel) just don't overclock further than 1.6GHz.
I don't know how DooMLord made his 1.6GHz one because he has no source code for it.

Thanks

Still, try it just to see if it boots
Hi Keiran,
I did some searching on the forum and i think its because my Play cant handle 2ghz so it just hangs on boot screen. I tried your kernel and it did the same as the other 2ghz kernels. It must do some checks on the boot to see if the device can support it the different clocks.
Any chance you could make a kernel which can only clock up to 1.6ghz please.
Thanks
Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I was on DoomKernel. I flashed your Dark Forest Kernel to give it a whirl and everything works fine however now m Wifi does not work. It just says "error" next to it under settings. I flashed the stock kernel, then rebooted, then went back and reflashed the DarkForest Kernel and same thing. I do have a flashable zip for wifi modules I tried that and still the same, no wifi. Any ideas?
