SGH-I777 does the JIG work? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Does a Jig work with the ATT version?

Heck ya! Works awesome. Bought mine on ebay, plugged it in and wallah! No more yellow ! and goes right to download mode. I know I could definitly make my own, but I love the fit and finish of this one compared to a homemade one. There are cheaper ones out there and many places to get it from. I got mine here-> http://www.ebay.com/itm/150618157997?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Even works on my wife's Infuse. It came within maybe 3-4 days or something!

Yes the jig works. I did find out however, that if you had flashed a version of android 2.3.5, you will need to re-flash a secondary boot loader to get the jig to work. It happened to me. I can't remember exactly who I got the info from in the forum's here, but it is here somewhere.

I have a jig from my captivate that does nothing to this phone. Is that normal?

I777 is more picky - some Cappy jigs work, some don't.

Yes! Just used it to clear my counter and get rid of the yellow triangle. I used this one, there are cheaper out there but I can vouch that this one works:

I777 seems to only like jigs made with 1/4 watt

That shouldn't matter - however, 1/4 watt resistors are more likely to have good tolerance ratings than 1/2 watt ones.
It's more about the tolerance than the wattage.

I'm sure you are probably right that is not the wattage itself, but the tolerance, or something else that directly characteristic to 1/4 watt resistors, if there is anything else that would be directly characteristic to 1/4 (I wouldn't know).
But that seems to be the difference between the ones that don't work on the I777 that did work for the cappy.
Connexion only makes them out of 1/4 watt resistors now, and his jigs have worked on all the galaxy series phones ever since he started making them with 1/4 watt.

I'm considering picking up this jig from mobiletech, esp. since I can get it for $6 in combination with a charger+extra battery.
One (n00b) question, though - I understand you can apply a pre-rooted firmware from XDA to the phone w/o the jig, so is the only reason for the jig to reset the "flash counter" on the phone, and are you doing this solely to ensure your phone remains under warranty? Or does the jig afford some other functionality (making rooting and/or applying custom ROMs simpler, or something else?)
If I order the jig but apply a custom ROM b4 it arrives, does that defeat the purpose of getting the jig, or can I apply the jig after applying a custom ROM and reset the flash/warranty counter without issue?

Here is a pic of mine, this is why I didnt make one. I like the fit and finish of these pre-made ones.

It does put the phone into flash mode, way easier than trying to hold buttons etc.

Other than that convenience, is there any disadvantage to not using the jig until after one has flashed the phone? I was hoping to try flashing my phone today, but am unlikely to receive the jig until later this week if I order today.

As far as I know, jigs are only really needed when your device is unresponsive. Otherwise, it's purely for convenience and to get rid of the caution sign. Flash now, jig it later.

I was able to successfully clear my counter by using a home made jig. I used the same exact jig that i used for my captivate and i was able to get into download mode with no issues at all. My counter is now clear and i'm back to flashing (the correct way!).
I followed the instructions in this post, here, and i can confirm that 1/4 watt resistors seem to work pretty well. I also have a few 1/2 watt resistors laying around that i can test out if anyone is interested.
I used the generic radioshack brand resistors, you can pick them up for $1.50 at most locations.
The only problem that i had was that the USB is in a different location than on the captivate so i wasn't sure which pins i needed to make contact with. Flipping the phone upside down so that the USB was on top made it easier for me to see everything and find the right connectors. FYI, its the two right-most ones while holding the phone so the USB is on top.
Hope this helps someone!

Just used a jig yesterday. Works like a charm.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II ROOTED & BRICKED

Hey guys.. I just bought my new SGSII a week ago and I wanted to root it. I follow a guide on google and it went perfectly. Then I wanted to try a custom rom and found lite' and dark ROM... And I picked the dark ROM, so I found a guide on your site, for the 10.2 final edition and I did everything it said. I was starting to install, and I was waiting 15 mins and nothing happend. So as stupid as I am, I take the USB stick out and take the battery out too..
After that it wont turn ON. It wont do NOHTING, no download mode, no repair mode.. Its been a couple of hours now and I cant find any answer on google so I wanted to post my problem here so you could have a new case to crack ..
The wierd thing is my phone is warm, and even more warm then when I played on it.. But it wont function at all..
Please, I am very happy to recieve ANY answer
Please provide a link to the exact rom that you attempted to install.

Look for the posts on the 301k Jig. I don't have the exact link but they're around somewhere on the SGS2 forum.
Its basically a microUSB with a 301k ohm resistor soldered onto it. If you have access to a soldering iron you can buid one in 10 minutes with the online schematics and basic knowledge of electronics.
It has been reported to throw your (bricked) device into download mode when no other method works, as well as reset the counters (tried and tested by me).
Once you get download mode, flash stock firmware w/ Odin and that could fix everything.

Yeah, that'll do it. Personally, I would only use XDA as a resource for rooting and not Google..in the Original Android Development sub-forum there is a great guide on flashing via Odin and applying stock firmware (in which, it actually states in BOLD not to tick the pit files.)
Good luck!
Never ever use pit file unless you know what a pit file is and know exactly what you are doing.....most bricked phones caused by flashing pit

If the jig doesn't work and you have to send the phone in it might be a good idea to not mention what exactly you did to make it behave thusly

Also, if all else fails you might want to check the debricking service detailed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN7le4GmxZs

Samsung Jig

Hey guys and gals,
Just wanted to update everyone, the micro-usb jig that worked so well on the captivate also happens to work on the Note. Just tried mine out of curiosity and it worked. Plug it in, wait 3-4 seconds, vibrate, download mode...
I had not seen this posted anywhere in here, so just in case someone hard bricks this epic device, we do have a backdoor...
I wonder then, can the jig be used to reset the flash counter to zero?
My Samsung Galaxy Note™ is smarter than your Honor Student.
yes it works to get you into download mode which is fantastic however it will not aid in resetting the flash counter like it did on the SGS2
and BTW this isnt considered a development, this actually should have been opened in the General Section....

You can buy them off of ebay, or at least you used to be able to, or you can build one. I built mine from an extra data cable I had laying around at the time. It forces the phone into download mode, which is very convenient for those of us that flash roms at will.
This one is a fancy version of the home-built kind, mine is pretty rough, but it does the job and that's all that really matters...

[Q] S3 wont switch on, charge :/

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3 that does not switch on, or charge. Full disclosure; I bought it second hand in full cognisance of this fact*, but I really thought it was a software glitch or something I could fix with a hard reset. The reason for this is the guy I bought it from swears blind it's not water-damaged, which I've verified by checking the moisture sensors. So, I tried a hardware reset (volume up+power button+home button) but nothing. So, does anyone know what it could be other than water-damage**?
*Yes, I'm aware it was stupid. But it was really cheap, and I have very poor impulse control. I'm like a cat, you can't dangle something like that in front of me and not expect me to pounce on it ;p
**Screen appears to be in perfect condition.
Take the battery out and look at the model number....im worried your the victim of a chinese dud!

Nope, it's got Samung logos and all that; it says the SSN is I9300GSMH, which as far as I'm aware is the real deal. I've also checked the IMEI, and it corresponds to a real SGS3. So what is wrong with it?

As previously discussed in another thread, the chinese fakes look the real deal, all branding, samsung logos, model numbers etc match up to actual s3 devices, but the hardware is fake 540x960 display, 512mb ram etc....seriously worth looking into buddy
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Impossible to tell unless it switches on though.
I've compared it to the (apparently) real S3 in this video, and while everything seems to match up with mine, one thing is the microSD card slot and SIM tray have weird blue windows in them, which looks a bit suspicious. Did anyone else's phone arrive with these? It looks like they're replacements.
I don't want to sound too depressing but some of us have had our phones completely die for no reason after a few months. Mine's currently at the service centre and others who have had theirs back say that the circuit board was replaced. Mine didn't get wet, or dropped, it just stopped working.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
That *is* mildly depressing but if it comes to that I suppose all I can do is return it or sell it on as spares, try to get the money back :/ (all while hoping it *is* genuine)
(The circuit boards are really expensive to replace, also.)
Update: (like anyone's interested, but anyway) got my USB jig today, plugged it in following the method on this forum, but nothing. Not really surprised tbh.
Going to try a new battery next, but seriously doubt it'll come back to life at this stage. Thanks for the suggestions and comments anyway, and if any users have anything not covered already, just post it below. Thnx
Thought I'd update this again to report the lack of success of a battery switch....again, not really surprising.
I also need to reiterate the point that mine arrived with what looks like a replacement SIM tray/sdcard slot rig, such as those you see on eBay. I'm not sure whether to take this as suspicious or...what, and am now just ready to give up entirely on the phone. Any advice before I do this would be welcome

I must add, that you should really evaluate yourself, and decide if you have the skills to do it. It can damage your phone permanently if you don't do it the right way.

I finally found a replacement port that works in the i777 after a couple of failed attempts. It is sold on ebay by muchbuy-outlet. Here is the link:

I'm about about to purchase a new port as well and wanted to know if you had tried the one from the quote below without luck.

I just bought from that link and replaced it my I777 with basically the same problem you have. Problem was solved (see "usb won't connect" thread in Q&A). There's a YouTube video showing how to replace it on the i9100, which I followed and is extremely similar to the i777. Sent from my SGH-I777

Did not try that one. There is one on amazon that some one said in the comments worked with the i777 but I could not get it to work. Also, on ebay, one from ipartsdepot1 did not work. I also contacted several other sellers that said their's would not work. Hope this helps. -- Bud

Does this require soldering to install? Are there any instructions available? Thank you.
Edit: I found a video here which I think should help.
Won't charge?
Like rushaan stated that you should think before you go any further, if your battery will not charge it could be more of an issue than a charger. For the last week I have been trying to boot mine and only get one of 2 messages, The Samsung boot image, and I have done all most everything I have read in our forums. The last run, I had been re-installing some apps, after a ROM change, all was going great ,then a message came up Stating that "due to the battery heating up,it was shutting down the charger" so, of course battery was drained and con not get the freakin' phone to do anything but show the "SAMSUNG" boot animation.. NOW, since then I can not get it to boot, esp. into CWM recovery. I am still reading to see what file/image that I maybe able to use while utilizing ODIN. So,with that being said look a bit more in-depth before you think you have the correct solution.

This is great news. Will make a DIY one again soon.
Ps. Wrong section tho, ask mods to move to accesories or general.

Heh i used to sell those back in the captivate days... good times
You are in the right Section to me! It's part of recovery, not an accessory in generic sense!
It was also able to reboot the tamper counter before, will it do so with the s7 ?
It'a good that I haven't lost my old USB jig from S2 days

I wasn't around the mod scene back when the S2 was a thing. Could you share with me how you made a very clean jig? The ones I've found can be a bit messy

i think the one he has is a pre-made one, he bought it like that, I just made one using 3x100kOhms and 1x1kOhm. Didn't worked tho, maybe the usb cord I found collecting dust in the drawer is broken, will try with another cord.

This was a pre-made one but if I Remer correct it's a 100k resistor contacted to pin 3 and 5.

Hi, can you upload the video please and if possible, show a link to buy or make the jig.
Thanks in advance

@kitila,
I found this topic Googling for this same info, so thanks for reporting that the USB Jig still works with S7!

Still got one I made for the S4, it is 300k Ohm (Or the one I made, 3 x 100k Ohm) across pins 4 & 5 (ID & GROUND)
Or easier, buy one for a couple £ on ebay
Thank you for the correction on that I knew it was 100 something
Can anyone confirm that this really works? My S7 seems to be hard bricked

Can you point to where on ebay to get one? I can't seem to find the right search terms.
Thanks.

good to know, I've got a 1,000 pack of 10k resistors in my desk lol
It's not what you buy its what you build
