A friend of mine just gave me a Droid Eris.
Can I make Droid Eris works with AT&T Network? I noticed that it does not have SIM slot. Just wondering.
No sorry, the Eris does not have any kind of GSM radio for AT&T/T-Mobile/etc.. I believe that it can be flashed to work on some CDMA networks (CricKet or Metro PCS maybe?), but that is it. Sorry that I can't be of any help, but the Eris doesn't have anyway to connect to the cell towers :S
Nope, not even close to possible on AT&T. Just run it on wifi, that's it.
Yea! I found that out right after I posted. Thanks for the fast response. I am currently trying to use it for wifi connection.

Recently, I called VZW inquiring about my new tablet (xoom) and wanted to get the unlimited data plan applied to the tablet since I already pay for unlimited data on my main line and tethering. (Yes, I know I don't have to pay for tethering, but I figured 54 bucks a month for unlimited 4G as a home service and cell is fair). In any case, VZW informed me that I'd have to buy a package for the tablet, which I attempted to argue that if I pay for the hotspot, why can't the XOOM have unlimited.
In any case, here are a few questions/thoughts I had. When the Thunderbolt is connected to the 4G network, what happens with the CDMA/EvDo portion of the phone? Is it still being used, or is there a possibility of me changing the MEID on the tablet to trick the network? I've noticed that the thunderbolt (if I'm wrong, correct me) actually has two radios and uses them in different ways-
Radio 1 for 3G Voice Radio 2 for 3G Data
Radio 1 for 4G Voice/Data Radio 2 Off (Verify???)
Radio 1 for EvDo Voice Radio 2 for EvDo Data
Or some sort of combination of those. Maybe I have some sort of misconception of how exactly this phone works, but I'm curious if it'd work keeping the SIM in the thunderbolt and modifying the 3G Xoom to use the phones MEID. Does anyone have any sort of insight on to this?
Thanks!
4G is for data only at this point

But see... I don't need the 3G data then... Would it work if I used the 3G just for data?
The Tbolt has 2 radios. One is the cdma radio built onto every msm8655, the other is the MDM9600 which includes both cdma and LTE radios. All data is handled on the MDM9600. The cdma radio on the msm8655 runs only 1xRTT CDMA for voice and sms text. Authentication for the MDM9600 is handled via the SIM card, unlike other devices where the cdma authentication is handled conventionally. Unless you can rewrite a SIM card, I'd say this would be pretty hard.
You could tether the Thunderbolt to the Xoom. Then you don't need an extra data plan at all.

I wondered why the OP didn't consider this a valid option as well. I suppose he/she just doesn't want to have to carry the Tbolt around and worry about it's battery as well.
Okay everyone. After alot of trial and error. I got my Samsung T-mobile vibrant working on AT&T. I'm running Whiskey Nextgen 2 Rom and everything seems to be working fine except signal strength. I've read about how the Vibrant only picks up 2 of the ATT signals or whatnot but I have NO signal inside the building where I work. My question is whether an AT&T radio can be flashed to the phone so that its basically an AT&T phone with decent signal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah, you can flash a captivate radio.

Thanks Ali!
My girlfriend is using her vibrant on ATT without any issues. How good was the reception in the building before getting a vibrant?
T-Mobile Vibrant not working on 3G network from AT&T
Could you use 3G with AT&T network?, because I couldn´t, just Edge, which is very slow, any recomendations on this matter? I heard this device doesn´t support 850 mhz, is there any way to make it happen?

No 850mhz. You can get AT&T 3g in the areas they use 1900mhz though.

Well I had a Captivate but it was stolen from my home during a burglary some months back. I had left it home because it was one of those "shut off" models that would constantly shut down on it own and I was using my more dependable iphone 3gs while at work. That being said, I had 3 bars inside the building. With the Vibrant on the ATT network, I'm sitting at 0. Cannot connect to the market or anything. At home, the Vibrant signal is fine but I need a happy medium and I'm still recuperating from the break-in so I cant just go out and purchase a new ATT phone at this time.
The more I read about flashing radios though, the more concerned I am about doing so. I was under the impression that the radio had to match the kernal and my kernal version is 2.6.32.9 so I dont know if the cappy radio will match.
Anyone have fully flashed thunderbolt to metropcs?
Please share the method,tnx...

I have my Tbolt flashed to metro. Everything works except 3g- only 1x. I paid someone to do it for me. Person whom flashed it had to downgrade from gingerbread to froyo. So my advice, not worth it if you need 3g speed and more stable OS. Its benefits is that the camera and video are 3 times better than my old Evo. But I sure do miss 3g. I know that you can't flash the Tbolt the same way as the Evo. You have to use CDMA workshop to flash. The only thing I learned, by messing with it, is changing the PRL. On the Evo it is simple, on the Tbolt- need workshop.
Hello montecristo glad to hear from you. What PRL do you have on your TB?
Sent from my PC36100
I am currently using PRL 3026. I have tried PRL 3019-3026...no 3g.
I have been noticing lately that it has been more stable- but at 1X though. Able to somewhat stream radio a little better. My old Evo would never lag and stream fast.
No offense, but why gimp a nice phone like the Thunderbolt on Metro? If you want a decent Metro phone, get the Metro version of the LG Revolution (Navigator I think it's called).

I originally had the HTC Evo on metro...it was absolutely the best phone I ever had on metro...everything worked great! I was hoping for the same on the Thunderbolt...besides Brandogg, metro brand phones really SUCK. Everyone I know on metro abandoned their Metro brand smartphones and jumped onto the Evo. On metro brand smartphones, metro requires you get the $50 plan...and with the Evo, you can get the $40 plan...
Unfortunately, mrctony, I haven't been able to get 3G...its the only thing lacking. I only know of two people that know how, here in Northern CA, and they're not talking on how to...but both recommend not getting the Thunderbolt for metro because of the 3G thing. One recommended the Photon and the other Droid.
Have you seen the video on how the thunderbolt is actually fully flashed to cricket?? It gave instructions on how to step by step....I had the link- but for some reason it is now down. That's where I learned how to change the PRL.
So far I know that the Thunderbolt is fully flashed successfully to Cricket and PagePlus...metro is missing 3G.
Yes montecristo I've been reading the cricket "guide" for the TB and I think same method apply for the EVO 4G (on metro),but I agree if not 3G then its not worth it...so sad
:'(

Trying to get my Thunderbolt on PagePlus even if it's just 1x, it's a start. Do you know how or where to do it that won't have me buy CDMA WS?
There is a video in this forum about flashing the thunderbolt to pageplus...
And about cdma ws, I found an outdated one...hard to find. Worth buying if flashing is your thing.

Just wondering if you do, what prl you may be using or radio. I just got mine yesterday and put it on Verizon and I love the phone. I lose 3G at my house sometimes but for some reason Verizon has always been that spotty for me so there may be no cure....Sprint isn't the best either at my house. The best believe it or not is AT&T. Everywhere else though usually Verizon has the best service around my town. I live in Virginia. Input would be greatly appreciated.

I did it myself. I have done many. When I had Verizon postpaid I had a bad signal where I lived but having a signal in the sticks outweighed the cons. I live in the city thats the weird thing but I did a lot of work that was in rural areas so having a signal was needed.

Yes if it's done right you will have 3G and everything working. In my area Verizon is also much faster than Boost Mobile.

Hey guys,
Quick thought and a question:
1. I have the LTE rocking on Page Plus, also a Verizon service. For those considering the Verizon network over Sprint's, consider Page Plus over Verizon PP for two reasons:
A. Avoid illegality of ESN cloning
B. Being kicked off the network for data abuse, cause they know those tiny, dumbphones aren't capable of such data usage
2. For those rocking these LTEs on VZW networks, even with the right MMS settings, can you guys confirm that when you get an MMS, you have to MANUALLY hit the download button to download the images? Instead of the phone automatically engaging the data to download the image, and then shutting the data off, much like all the native Verizon phones like the Rezound, for example?
Thanks for your help!

Not trying to be a smarta$$ at all here, bud, but Google is your friend on that one . So much you can find out about it, if you Google it.
But simply stated, it's an MVNO that runs on the Verizon network... Decent support, and service for reasonable price...
can i flash it to metro? if so how
VZW prepay on a 4g?
I keep hearing how some ppl have their Verizon 4g phone on the Verizon prepaid service and I need to know how I get that to happen for me. I have a droid bionic with a 4g sim but I use the VZW prepay bc I don't use my cell but about 1/2 the month (dead area for cell phone coverage in the sticks where I live) so I don't want contract pricing. I've been using one of the Verizon prepay phones but they just aren't up to par for me and I love the droids. Somebody please tell me how I get this to work?!?! I've tried transferring my service myself online to the 4g sim but of course that doesn't work and you can't even get a Verizon rep to even discuss it. Is it a matter of getting a different kind of sim for the phone, i.e. a 3g sim if they even exist in the VZW world. Is there such a thing as a prepaid sim versus a contract sim? I'm lost!
Hey guys! Please excuse my noobish ignorance as I'm usually over in the Epic Touch threads, but I'm looking into getting my pops a OG Photon & I have a few questions.
My Dad needs a Sprint smartphone with an exceptional radio because one area he will be using it often is up in the mountains, roaming in a fringe coverage area on Verizon. And lemme just say now, switching over to Big Red ain't gonna happen, lol.
Now, I've heard rumors that out of all the smartphones in the Sprint stable, the Photon kicks everything else's backside when it comes to radio reception.
So that brings me back to my question: I'm looking for some first hand input on how the radio(s) perform on this puppy to help me determine if this is the right phone for him.
Also, I need to make sure he can wirelessly tether with the Photon without losing 4G capability. I've been reading about how if you unlock the bootloader you lose 4G. If I just root his phone & NOT unlock the bootloader, can I just install a tethering app and still retain the 4G capability? Also, curious if anyone has tried Foxfi (wireless tether w/o root) on the Photon & if/how that worked out.
Any input coming from my fellow XDA peeps would be most welcome & appreciated.
TIA guys!

Yep, the photon has a ridiculously good radio. But such is true with the majority of Motos newer devices. Because the photon is super cheap now, you really can't go wrong. Yes, you can root and not unlock to keep 4g. And yes, foxfi works great.
Thanks for the reply, sounds promising! Does the same reception quality apply to the 3G & 4G radios as well?

I cant speak for 4g as i dont use it. But i get sprint 3g nearly everywhere i get call reception. Data speeds have always been slow as hell for me though.
