Does anyone know if RAZR can play 1080p Youtube or only 720p?
Razr easily plays H.264 1080p.
So don't worry about Youtube. But with you qHD screen, you shoul use 720, or 480. Except if you want to stream on a TV, obviously.
Edit: And keep on fighting, Greece.
No. 720p yes, 1080p, no. It stutters like mad.
Are you talk via browser or the app? I don't think there's a choice within the app.

Both actually. Since you mention it, what is the resolution used by the app and are there any other apps that gives you the option to choose resolutions?
720p max in YouTube -- which looks great. 1080p is not necessary.

Does anyone else experience lag when watching HD movies? The movies in question are mp4. I get dropped frames and out of sync audio/video when using the stock video player or mobo.
I had no issues watching them on my Epic.
I use MX Player and its great.

I use qqPlayer with the player's built in codecs. I only have issues when it's a ridiculously large .avi file.

I used it and it still doesn't work right. Maybe it's just the encoding that was done to the vids. Just strange that it worked flawlessly on the Epic and is so choppy on the Photon.

I did enjoy the wide range of codecs on the Epic, but having Netflix on this phone I'll live.

Netflix worked fine for me on the Epic.
Ive tried most of the ICS leaks and saw that youtube actually does 720p. Anyone notice this? I actually took my wifes stock rezound and put it next to my ics and found the video quality is very much superior on the ICS version.
In saying that, is it possible to get that on A GB rom? Or is it not possible ?
And im talking about the youtube app, not from browser.

ics 720p youtube
Just curious, how do you know ics youtube supports 720p. Because I'm on ics and my youtupe player still just shows (hq) ?
I always assumed that the GB player did 720p also since my HD icon/switch would always be lit up. I'm running ICS now and it's pretty nice but I don't use youtube enough to notice a change in quality.
ICS YouTube is superior in almost every way. Their normal (Non HD) setting is HQ (High Quality) on GB. Then when you click HD, the video will play in 720p (If supported). Dope.
Edit: ICS ROMs that are 4.0.1 will not say HD. It will say HQ, but still plays 720p when applied. ICS 4.0.3 has the "HD" icon instead of "HQ."

Here are a couple videos I found to really show off the screen.
Trailer for The Hobbit in 4k
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t56ooXC9VmY
ST. JOHN / U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS in 4K - This one is really amazing. Anyone who says 1080p is pointless on a 5 inch screen needs to watch this. It almost looks 3D

you can use tubemate to download at 1920x1080 resolution. I use it for longer videos because even on my 50mbps home connection, youtube doesn't buffer worth sh!t.
Tubemate isn't in the market, but is on several other sites including getjar and amazon appstore.
Holy crap using tubemate and downloading them and playing with mx player....wow simply wow

Thanks for this tip. Streaming from YouTube was good quality, but using this app to get the full 1920x1080 files is stunning!
Hi, does anyone else having the same issue as what I'm having? Youtube quality isn't as good on this device compared to galaxy note 3 or HTC one.
Videos play smoothly but the quality and the sharpness of the videos seems to blur and not as sharp and I already set the youtube setting to HD.

Download boat browser or another preferred browser with support for flash and watch 1080p without a problem.
If that's not an option, get the youtube mod allowing for 1080p streaming. Although I couldn't get it to work it might get fixed soon.
Turn off X-reality also, it kills YouTube.

Here's the mod that I've tried, unfortunately 1080p seems broken as of now.

I already knew that option but its not as easy as playing via app. Anyway thanks for your suggestion
I tried Viral Youtube app and its quality even though max it support 720p as of now(earlier used to support 1080p) is really fantastic.I find it much better than default youtube app.
Using danvdh 4.4.4 GPE ROM. YouTube max is 720p.
I also have a stock VZW Galaxy S5 that allows me to select 1080p. Same video.
Confused.
I'm running Vanir and I only have up to 720p option as well. Personally on a screen our size I doubt it makes much of a difference.

I have a stock vzw galaxy s5 and I am able to notice the difference. I guess it also has a better display.
Me neither I've even tried viral and it wouldn't allow me to use 1080p on my s4 why
