Phone Reboots when I try to plug in to computer - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Everytime I plug my SF into my computer it reboots, I'm running cm7 with the glitchv13 kernel. tried running it in debug mode and everything. any ideas?
It also freaks out when I try to unmount the card to pull it out so i can at least put it into a card reader.

Do you have apps running from your SD Card?

Yeah I personally keep all my apps on my internal storage so I don't ever have issues with the sd card. There's PLENTY of internal space (2GB) on the Fascinate so I don't see why people always put them on the SD card. Now my mom's LG Ally with 126MB of internal memory....there it makes sense.

Yeah...I flashed higher leakage of the glitch kernel and it loads up fine now.

[Q] Has this happened to anyone?

Recently i flashed anderoids aosp rom and before i flashed it my internal memory was 12 gb and my sd was like 2gb but after i flashed it my internal and sd switched my computer now reads them as the opposite my internal is removable disk g and my sd is removable disk f when before it was switched. The my device app is also telling me that my sd is 12 gb and my internal is 2gb.
Just wanted to check if this is normal and if it reads like this for anybody else.
Mine is backwards also. And in my folders I have multiple sd folders. All good though. I guess mixing and matching folders from other types of phones something will get confused.

Locked disk??

In the last couple of weeks, whenever I try to transfer either a single file or large groups of them (from 64-bit desktop windows 7 pc). Nothing happens on the streak side, but on the pc side, I keep getting a message that says disk locked or write-protected, and that I either should unlock it or use another disk. This problem began when I started experimenting with futambool and/or missing link, I think. But maybe not. Anyone have any ideas?

I should have added that I can install free and paid apps perfectly well. My only problem is transferring docs, etc.

Apps usually go to internal storage. When you copy from your computer to the phone mounted as a USB storage device it is going to the external sd card.
Try removing your SD card and connecting it to your computer with a card reader/adapter and see if you can read it. I suggest backing everything up if you can and reformatting it. You may want to try the formatter provided by the SD Assoc.
Marvin02--thanks! I'm on my way. Will report back in a few hours. Thanks again.

OK. It seems that, despite the fact that there is no obvious lock on a microSD card, the card was locked. Apparently, sliding the microSD card into an SD card adapter (in order to slip the card into a card reader, may move the SD CARD'S tiny lock, thereby somehow locking or unlocking the microSD card. Somehow, even though you remove the microSD card from the SD Card adapter, the microSD remembers the state the adapter left it in (by setting or unsettling a bit flag? Or maybe the adapter physically moved some submicroscopic plastic particle on the microSD card?)...anyway, the only way I found to change a microSD's state is to put it back into the adapter, put the adapter into a card reader, and run the microSD card from your desktop computer.
If you Google this problem, you'll discover that suddenly write-protected microSD cards is a fairly common problem.
Marvin02--i didn't try to reformat my card, because I'm the superstitious type and I didn't want even to breathe on the microSD card once it started working again. But many thanks, because you led me to a solution.

SD card

Okay. Got a new phone and the sd card won't recognize now. Worked once til a reboot then it doesn't show up. Can't mount or unmount. Is there anyway aside from factory rest to get it working?

Before resetting the phone try and see if your computer recognizes the card, and if it does reformat the SD card. If not, return it, you probably got a dud.
It worked before on the old SGSII. But not on the new one. Odd. Bit I s'pose it is possible

It seems like andoid plays best with cards that are in fat32 format with 32bit sectors.
I may be wrong on the sector size. Please correct me if I am. Can't find where I read that.
If you can get the card setup that way and the phone still has issues reading it, it may be the new phone.

I can't get the card to recognize on the computer, I don't have a micro SD adapter though, this was in the phone. But I know it isn't the phones SD slot, as I tried the card outta my photon, worked fine. And tried the bad card in my Photon, and nothing.
So I suspect the card is bad, just not sure how it got messed up. Still strikes me as odd. But stranger things have happened.
Sd cards do have a way of acting up in weird ways.
I would hang onto the card until you get a chance to plug it straight into a pc. Linux is best for being able to read/fix messed up partitions.

I'm gonna buy a micro sd reader and play with it. Thanks for the ideas.

[Q] having a hard time transferring stuff to sd card

is there another way to transfer pics, roms and etc to the internal sd card and the external sd card other then using this horrible MTP junk? its taken me 10 mins to transfer 3 pictures to my external sd card using the MTP crap. this is driving me nuts. i am starting to hate this phone because its so complicated to transfer anything to the damn sd cards on this phone. i want mass storage back. so much quicker
so nobody has this issue like i do? i cant seem to transfer nothing to my internal or external sd card. even if i get lucky and it does start to transfer, im gonna be waiting at least 15 to 20 mins just to transfer some pictures
How are you doing the transfer? When I plug in my phone, it shows up in "My Computer" just like a disk. I double click my way to the right location and just drag and drop. simple. I was worried because of all the fuss over not supporting UMS, but I think this works as well or better.
One issue I did have was the usb cable I was using. The only one that works for me is the charging cable that came with the phone. If you're usng anything else, try using that cable.
Yes MTP is total crap compared to mass storage, but it's all we really got so...
i plug my phone into my windows 7 pc. it shows my phone, then i click on it and it shows me my internal sd card and external sd card. then i click on my external sd card and drag my photos from the pc to the external sd card and it shows its transferring then it just gets stuck at one point. nothing i can do about it. here is some pics to show u. the one wallpaper i tried to transfer from the pc to my sd card was only 1.43mb and it wont transfer over. when i try to transfer a rom over. forget about it. nothing happens
Edit: the only way i can get my stuff transferred over is to put my external sd card in my gfs sensation 4g and transfer all my files from my pc to her phone. then when i am done i take my sd card out of her phone and put it back in mine. thats the only way i can do it so far. i was hoping there was an easier way but i guess not. this is bs if u ask me. i hate samsung for making this so complicated

yeah it is bs. i was hoping someone would figure out a way to enable mass storage like they do for the international version.

That's what I do. I'm still on XP. Windows 7 is supposed to be better for this. Try the original cable.
thats all i have is the original cable. still no go. idk what up with it.
I had the same issue and turned out to be the two back usb ports I was using. The sgs3 didn't like them and would transfer extremely slow. Weird because I had no issues with my sgs2. I suggest trying different USB ports on your pc.

yep that did it for me.. that is soo odd lol. i used a different usb port in the front since i have 4 of them. now everything transfers pretty quick. thanks for that tip. i still think that is so odd though. :good:
Edit: i hit the thanks button for everyone that tried to help me out.
I'm glad that worked for you. Its very odd indeed but makes me feel better that I'm not the only one or that its not just my pc. Maybe we were using lower speed ports. In any case you should be good to go now and will just have to use those ports like me.

[Q] CM9 USB File Transfer too slow

Ever since I switched to using CM9, I've found that USb transfers are extremely slow on my i717r. I'm wondering if this is a problem everyone experiences, and if there is a way to fix it. It's a pain to have to remove the SD card everytime I want to transfer files to my phone.

I believe this is a known issue; however, it only affects my internal storage (if I plug in my phone and transfer files to my SD card, it's fast). I've tried a few SD speed boost options, like the one in Rom Toolbox, so that may have been the answer for my SD card, but my internal storage is still quite slow.

Sadly, my slow transfer speeds applies to both internal storage and my SD card. Which is annoying, cause I paid more specifically for faster class of card. When I plug the MicroSD into the USB adapter, its blazing fast.

Try Rom Toolbox Lite (I have the paid version and it has a SD boost option). If I remember correctly, I think my SD card was also slow before I started using this app (it had no affect on my internal storage speed though). I haven't had an issue with my SD card speed since.
