[Q] SK17i and fastboot - not able to flash rooted phone - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi,
what I've done so far :
rooted my phone (Doomlord's tool)
updated ROM .42 (via x10flashtool.exe - which is in fact GUI for fast boot as I understood)
rooted again
wanted to go to FXP045, but stuck with flash - system response was that the phone needs to be rooted first (+some issues with drivers)
refreshed ROM via Companion (.42)
rooted again
...and still same issue during flash (with -w option)
either failed bcz not rooted (not true)
or stops at sending boot (nothing happens) and then fail because i disconnect device "status read faled(too many links)"
Anyone able to advise if I missed sthg?
thx, M.

same for me on st15i.

[Q] Rooting/Flashing Advice

Hi,
Just looking for some advice really, I'm looking to root/flash my girlfriends's mini pro (SK17i), it's currently running GB (4.0.2.A.0.62) which as I understand cannot be rooted from that particular version? The phone was bought 2nd hand and the bootloader is already unlocked.
Questions I have are:
1. From reading the forums, I was going to go with stock ICS rom with rage kernel, as I'm looking for stability/battery life, or are there better combinations of custom ROM/kernel out there, for this purpose?
2. If I do stay with stock ICS is it necessary that I downgrade before rooting then flashing? Or can I flash directly to ICS?
I should be fine with the whole process of rooting flashing the phone, but would greatly appreciate the advice!!
Again Many Thanks
1. Since you have a unlocked bootloader it's possible to root .62 firmware by just flashing a prerooted kernel like the rage kernel for gb.
2.I've been using rage ics kernel with stock Sony ics Rom, it is very much stable and battery standby is really good.
3. First you flash the ics ftf using flashtool and boot the device. then power down the device and enter into flashmode and flash rage kernel for ics. You don't have to root your phone separately, once you flash the rage kernel for ics you're phone will be automatically rooted and busybox will be installed.
You don't have to downgrade at all! You have a unlocked bootloader man! Just flash the rage kernel and your phone will be rooted!
Just make sure you flash the correct version of rage kernel. 3.2 for ics. 3.0 for gingerbread.
hit thanks if I've helped!

Thanks for the swift reply!
So to clarify, am I right in thinking flash the ICS ROM first then once done reboot and flash the Kernel next?
I dont need to flash the kernel on GB first?
Also any opinions on Panic Kernel, is that also prerooted?
Cheers

1. That`s the point. Normally, to install a custom rom via clockworkmod you flash the kernel first and after that you install the rom.
But now you don't install a custom rom, you flash the ftf and this ftf will overwrite the kernel (kernel is a boot.img). So after you have flashed the ftf you can just plug phone off, plug in in fastboot mode again and flash the custom kernel. Then just reboot (you can reboot before flashing kernel if you like, but that wouldn't change anything)
2. No you don't need, just flash the kernel for the rom you like.
3. Yes panic should be prerooted, too
Ya you are right! No need to flash gb kernel .

Ya it wouldn't change anything but to make sure that the ftf is been flashed properly and the Rom boots. Just to go step by step.

Tbh if you're looking for good stabilty and battery life GB is still the go to....Rage kernel is DEfinitely not the best kernel for battery life
Panic is prerooted, its not harsh on battery life, but it has a few minor bugs, usb only connects in media transfer mode and the cmw 6 it has has reported some issues when doing nand backups...The best kernbel for stability and battery in my opinion (i tested them all) is Mesa kernel, rage and panic are more for performance and performance usually means less battery life
Okay guys, flashed stock ICS ROM fine!
But now trying to flash MESA kernel using Fastboot Toolbox within Flashtool and I'm getting the error that my device isn't rooted?
Tried with a few other kernels and the same problem? I was under the impression flashing the kernel would also root the device?

Hmm the log looks like your phone's bootloader isn't unlocked yet. Please power phone on and type *#*#7378423#*#* and go to service info -> configuration -> rooting status and tell us what is written there. Cause it must work
Yeah it has bootloader unlock allowed: yes
Which I'm guessing it means it isn't unlocked at present?
Sorry was being stupid I thought it was already unlocked! I can just follow the tutorial sticky to unlock right? Then give it another go?

Okay you must know what you want, two options:
1. Just root phone, and uninstall the crap. This maybe won't void warranty, cause if you unroot you can bring it to service again.
2. Unlock bootloader:
1. You unlock via official method -> you void warranty but you can install a custom kernel for better performance or other custom roms (for example cyanogenmod)
2. You unlock via testpoint method, which can be relocked and maybe sony won't notice, but that's more dangerous and I wouldn't do it.
These are the methods you have, just choose one
Btw for rooting you needn't unlock bootloader, choose your current software version in my rooting guide and follow the steps to root

Ya it looks like you haven't unlocked your bootloader yet .
It's better to unlock via the official method. You'll lose DRM keys (google it) and remember all your phone data (except memory card data) will be erased To be on the safer side just remove the memory card prior to unlocking. Sync up your contacts to your google account or take a backup of your contacts in your memory card.
YOU'LL VOID YOUR WARRANTY. YOU CANNOT USE SEUS TO UPDATE YOUR PHONE SOFTWARE instead you have to use flashtool which is not a concern at all and after unlocking please do not accept any over the air (ota) Sony software updates, IT WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE .
Just for your information there is also a guide to unbrick the device which is bricked due to fota update but you would not want to brick it in the first place would you? .
Look at Sony's official bootloader unlocking page for further instructions and keep your IMEI handy it'll ask for it (dial *#06# for your IMEI or look at the phone's packaging).
Happy unlocking!

I need help with my SK17i

i've rooted my sk17i many many times running gingerbread and ics with unlocked boot loader. now I'm running a custom rom called hasa with stock kernel. and then i tried hard to flash another custom rom with the flashtool but there was a problem. when i tried to flash the kernel which is ( LuPuS_mango_jBv7.img ) there was a message says you should root your device although the superuser exists. this is the photo of the problem.
the root word here refers to bootloader should be unlocked .. that happened to me before ,, then i found that i relocked the bootloader .. then i unlocked it again and it works fine
---------- Post added at 02:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:48 PM ----------
also it should say in log "BootLoader Status : Rooted!" but this is not in ur log .. try to unlock bl again
Hmmmm.....
1.turn off your phone....
2.connect your phone to pc while holding volume up (you can see blue led appear/that show you are in fastboot mode)
3.open flashtool (the log will confirm your phone is on fastboot mode)
4.click the flash button on flashtool and select fastboot....
5.a popup will appear then pick "select kernel to flash".....
6.choose any custom kernel you desire then flashing kernel will begin....
those were the proper step on how to flash custom kernel on your phone....never connect you phone while it still on if you are planning to flash any kernel....
btw, you cannot flash custom roms using flashtool...you need CWM or TWRP recovery to flash custom roms...CWM and TWRP recovery are available in any custom kernel...
Thanks guys

[Q] Bricked SK17i. What now?

Hiya all, I have an xPeria Mini Pro SK17i (Mango) on GIngerbread, rooted (don't know if the fact that I must be on debug usb on to use rooted functions means something) and LOCKED bootloader.
I installed a custom rom from the clockwork recovery, then I rebooted the device.
Now it shows, "Sony ericsson", and then a black screen. I can't even access the recovery.
I tried to flash back a system.img from fastboot, but I can't, it says "device must be rooted" (it's because i left debug mode off before the bricking?)
I can't neither use adb commands because it is not on debug mode.
What can I do to restore it to a previous state or solve this situation?
Thanks in advance.
Download stock ROM in .ftf file and use flashtool OR use SUS OR PC Companion (repair option).
P.S. You should search forum for solution, cause there was plenty of similar topics.

You can't flash your phone via fastboot with LOCKED bootloader, thats obvious. Just use Sony PC Companion to repair your phone or manually install a stock ftf file.

Im geting a bootloop, and even flashing any ftf file (i tried 5) the phone keep stuck in a bootloop :SSSS
any sugestions?
You said that your phone has a LOCKED BOOTLOADER. Use PC Companion or Sony Update Service to install the stock firmware for your phone. Use PCC or SUS not flashtool.

PCC or SUS doesn't need your phone to be rooted or in USB debugging mode to reinstall the stock firmware. It only wants your phone to be in Locked Bootloader.

xperia C6802 doesn't go beyond DoomKernel logo

Team,
I was on Android Lolipop 5.1.1 stock os. I was searching on how to root C6802 and everyone thread said, we must downgrade to Android 4.4.4 (build .108). Unfortunately, i didn't get it. The problem I now have is, I installed the Kernel ZU-DooMKernel-v22 through Sony Mobile Flasher (flash kernel) without even rooting the phone or installing a new custom ROM and now when i turn on the phone, it shows the DoomKernel logo and it won't go beyond that. Earlier it showed twrp but now it isn't going to it.
I had unlocked the bootloader per the instructions by Sony by getting the unlock code.
Can someone tell me how to fix this issue ? I am lost
Thanks
Arun
you're better than me. i was on 4.4.4, flashed the same kernel, now my screen won't even turn on.
using flashtool, sony emma & pc companion, can't find a solution. downloading stock using xperifirm keeps disconnecting & getting speed of 9-30kbps

You can try reflash the 5.1.1 firmware with flashtool but only flash the Kernel section by check all the box inside firmware detail except the Kernel.. Leave this box uncheck. And connect the XZU to your pc in flash mode( turn off the phone,on off condition press and hold volume down button while you connect the phone to the pc...and you in flash mode)...hope this can fix your problem.

If you want to root XZU run lollipop. Don't flash doom kernel into your system,it will end in bootloop. Just try to hot boot the doom kernel by flashtool in fastboot mode.this way will temporary instal doom kernel in your system,so you can enter to recovery mode and instal superSU.zip via recovery mode.after that you can reboot to original kernel to prevent bootloop. And you get rooted.you can found the doom kernel V22 and superSU in z ultra development thread...sorry for my languages..

i've flashed back stock 14.4.a.0.108 firmware using flashtool. my limitation is having a cracked touch screen (replacement cost an arm & a leg), now i've lost root & dare not do anything further.
it gave me sleepless nights trying to revive it. phones with locked bootloaders are a pain in the a**. previous similar phone was a htc sensation xl, had half of my hairs gone grey rooting it. i've sworn not to own any such phones in future. disposing off the xzu now although i love the large screen & processing power.
my other galaxy s3 is just so easy & almost unbrickable
thank you for your reply

LB, bootloop, no recovery

So during the process of updating to Marshmallow from 5.1.1 w/ root & recovery, I made a few stupid mistakes and as of right now my device:
- has no recovery
- won't boot (reboots before finishing the boot animation)
So I'm currently stuck in a position where I can't think of a way to revive the device without losing all my data on the internal storage.
I've tried flashing the FTF for .570 and .232, and that only made it worse.
I can't backup my data since the phone won't boot. Neither the OS nor a recovery.
I can't install a recovery without an unlocked bootloader, since the phone doesn't boot (I could've installed a recovery if the phone did boot, since Kingroot did actually work for me on .570).
I can't root my device when there's no way to boot into the OS, or the recovery; Plus I don't have an unlocked bootloader.
Does anyone know any way to revive the device without losing the data on my internal storage? Worst case scenario I can just unlock the bootloader and restart from there, but I'd like to keep my data if possible.
Got the same issue some weeks back, flash a mod n got bootloops without recovery.
The ONLY way out is to flash a ftf since you have lost recovey.
Flashing a ftf SHOULD work. Try a UK or German generic 5.1.1ftf, any version should work. But make sure your flashtool drivers are installed correctly and your device is actually in flashmode.
Check data in flashtool when about to flash. If it fails try again with the data unchecked ( will lose data)
Goodluck

Let me know how it goes.
Again make SURE the flashtool drivers are installed properly and your device is in flashmode ( power down the device with for some seconds, and hold volume down whiles connecting the usb)
