2.3.5 in developers forum! - Motorola Droid X2

Sweet! Let's get this party started!

How bout the party go to cheesecake app and see if someone can't snag us a bootloader unlock implemented update. Hopefully one of motos devs will throw us a bone and have one up there at some point

Good news about the update. I'm going to be checking the servers when I get to a laptop

Droidx2 THEORY and Explanation

Ok so p3 said "Good Morning, and hang on to that DX2 folks: It will get an update and looks like its going to be 2.3.4 - no eta though." in theory what this means is that it might have an unlocked boot loader, if so, we just have to be patient this is only a guess and credit to finding this post goes to "quadjacks" again this is true speculation on my part...
______
and for everyone wondering why the cwm for dx2 hasn't been released by me is because the restore feature can't mount the sd card, after this issue is fixed it will be released, if not i'll still probably release it soon if the dev of this app doesn't get back to me
Have a good one
--- EricErK
Not sure if it's a truly unlocked bootloader or a work-around to custom Rom's from what I've been reading. I could be wrong. I think the only way to get a true unlocked Bootloader is from Motorola and it looks like that's never going to happen..

Except... That's exactly what people are saying WILL happen when Gingerbread comes. OR at least I'm pretty sure that's how the Atrix got it's unlock. It even had the "Warning" from Moto about the warranty violation.
We'll just have to wait and see
Hopefully it happens soon so that I can keep this and not spend 200 on the bionic or tbolt

Moved to proper forum.
I doubt this means unlocked bootloader. It just means that a lot of the glitches/problems with the X2 will be resolved with this update, as well as the system utilizing both cores effectively. It should resolve the majority of issues X2 users have been suffering from. Now, considering p3 mentioned it, it does lead me to develop the idea that p3 has obtained a leak of the update and will be releasing within the next 2 weeks. The IT'S update is speculated to be here by the end of August.

2 weeks! Thats awesome!! And what is that "IT'S" release u mentioned??
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
it isnt august yet....
They it starts rolling out next week... legitly so unless p3 obtainted a dev version with an unlocked bl we are out of luck

DX2 thoughts..

if VZW released the DX2 in Europe (possibly with an unlocked BL) couldn't we use files off that phone to unlock our BL? (if any of this was released, of course!)
Also, the photon now has their BL unlocked, and the DX2 and Photon are cousins couldn't we try their method(s) to unlock our BL? Unless that's not possible at all.
Sorry guys, these are just random thoughts that have crossed through my head.
I don't think we could because VZW would probably put a different bl on the Europe version. And I think I read our kernel doesn't have an option to unlock it any ways, so we would need a new kernel that gets past the sig check, then try to unlock it. Could be wrong though. Still learning this stuff haha

Verizon Wireless, who is an American Subsidiary wouldn't release a phone in Europe, lol. And Moto won't release the phone there because A. It is old news now, and B. They are predominantly a GSM region.

so if our kernel wasn't unlockable then thered be no BL pudding for us unless we found the sbf that had an unlocked bl, correct?

I think so. But I'm not completely sure. I need to go back and read the bl notes thread.
But there are ways around it, like the theory of 2nd init starting a different kernel. So maybe some one could find a way around and we wouldn't have to wait for the SBF. But I think the SBF would come faster, if we get one.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
true, if the photon has a sbf that's been leaked then the DX2 has gotta have one as well, or at least that's a theory
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Yeah. Just gotta hope some one catches it off a server it gets it from the inside!
I'd be sick to see what this could do with an unlocked bl!

Just saw your post in the other thread! Nice!! Send it to the guy who replied, and maybe send it to some ROM devs

Gotcha, yeah, I figured I'd see what it it's all about, but you can't root it, pete's rooting tools wouldn't root nor unroot my phone, so i think the exploit was covered up, which def sucks.

Yeah! Maybe some one can find another exploit that'll work. See if you can pull the update again and copy the update file to your PC and upload it to mediafire and post a link to it for anybody who's interested. I'd see if I could help, but I'm not at a PC.
How's it running with the update? Any noticeable changes?
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
I'd tell you, but I had to sbf back to 2.3.4 to do anything that was relevant to unlocking the BL.
but I have overmind at the IRC, so i think i'ma try and pull the update again and not update and see if i can pull it.

the only thing on 2.3.5 we found was a faster non-delayed lockscreen, but there may be more soon!
afaik the only markets the x2 was released was the united states and mexico.
I could be wrong though.
In the many threads we have on unlocking the bootloader there is much discussions that have been beaten to death about unlocking using other phones methods. Bottom line it just isn't possible due to kernel differences and hardware differences. Check the "project thread" in development section for more info about why.
there was a LOT of discussion about it around the time we got the ATRIX ports as well.
And the ring able to start a second kernel after ours starts needs kexec to work along with 2nd init. I don't believe 2nd init alone will be able to start a new kernel. People had worked on kexec I believe but it didn't go far. We need more of a team to get something like this wiring but as of now we have requested a couple dev teams to help us out but were told "not working on x2 at this time....busy with other projects" or something to that effect. Hopefully we will get that leaked sbf that has our unlock one day....I did hear a while ago from a little birdie that an sbf was found that had oem unlock option but it didn't work/unlock wasn't implemented so hopefully we are getting a little closer.
**don't ask me where I heard it...and don't ask for any links for proof...I have NO proof for what I say....just take it as it is....believe if u want or don't believe if u want....either way keep your eyes and ears peeled and keep trying to find us that unlock option....this phone could destroy many others if we get unlocked***

Hate to burst your bubble there sir, BUT...if your Electrify has Android 2.3.5, then you are UNABLE to unlock the bootloader, myself and others are looking into ways to re-unlock the bootloader...again. However, if you are running 2.3.4 then you are set to jet, there is links and info for you, I think there is also a way to disable the 2.3.5 update as well.

Are you guys able to SBF? That may help if there is specific files for the electrify. NOTE: DO NOT TRY TO SBF A SPRINT FILE!!!
I have the Photon, so I have no idea. Motorola doesn't like Sprint, they love Verizon, so that's why we will never get the update on our Photons, including 1080p, or Ice Cream Sandwich, because Motorola hates Sprint, so they barely do anything for them. Any other carrier, sure.
[rant] Like you guys got 1080p updates on yours, and Android 2.3.5, we didn't yet (my phone is having issues for checking for updates so I believe that this is true, but yeah....) I know we haven't gotten 1080p yet, if we ever will. I bet someone will have to port it over, cuz we probably won't get it.
I hate to say it, but you guys will probably get Ice Cream Sandwich, and we won't.
That's how Motorola treats Sprint, and Sprint's customers. We are lucky we even have this phone on Sprint, but if it was on Verizon, it would get ICS, no doubt, but Motorola is faking this relationship with Sprint, because if they wre for real, we would have more high-end Motorola devices at least planned for the Now Network. Newest Photon SBF Post-198_6(/7)??

So what's the next and newest SBF after 198_6(/7) and where can I find it?
I think that is the last official. Moto's site only lists 198_6.

198_6 is the latest official, if you wanan get ota's stick with that, 198_7 is the newest tho...
either way both are in my signature

no, no guys. I knew all that much... but I've been hearing about test groups and what-not receiving special OTA's and stuff so I thought there was talk of something even newer than this...

uhh being on cm7 or 198_7 will prevent you from getting the update. you will get an email saying the update will be pushed out before it will actually be pushed out

If you go to the Motorola Owners Forum you will see a post talking about testers being needed. BEFORE you get all excited, look at the DATE!! It's an old post. According to Mark @ M O F they are not looking for Photon testers but they are looking for Atrix testers. Also if an OTA comes out there is rumors about maybe getting 1080p enabled on our MoPhos. There is another possibility. When the Electrify had it's OTA they wound up with an unlockable bootloader. I personally don't want the risk so I froze the updater and upgrader apk's using TiBu. If one comes out I'll wait and see what it does first.

New Moto Soak Text for x2?

Just got an email, 2:48Est, for a new Soak test for the X2? What could this be?

Sent from my MB870 using XDA
I was thinking the same as litetaker. Moto and VZW just released some bug-fixes for the D2 and something else if I remember right. Probably the same with the X2. One thing I don't get is that they complain the LTE in the Tegra devices like the XOOM is what is holding up ICS since the WiFi version has it already. Basically the X2 is just a smaller XOOM and since it only has the CDMA portion why can't it run ICS. The Specs of my X2 are better than my Nexus S 4G and I have my ROM running 4.0.3 on that without issue. Being Tegra based they can't blame that unless there is something in the CDMA holding it up.
What rom are you running that is 4.0.3 on the x2???
Woot! Lets hope its a music fix finally... right guys? Right?
I signed up today as well... I am thinking the same thing... it has to be a bug fix update.
I can't see them getting ICS out this quickly considering it was only about a month ago when it was put on the 'might be considered list'.
Motorola might move that fast enough to get it done... but VZW is slow.
Where is people signing up at?

Thanks for the heads-up, I hadn't read about this issue until seeing your post. Motorola clearly hates their customer base, viewing them as sheep to callously monetize.
I don't mean to go all Richard Stallman here, but Moto can't be trusted--they let us know that with the locked bootloader. That said, the DX2 is my last device...and NO way will I be a part of this soak test.
Again, thanks for the heads up, cheers.
