Hey guys im a Newbie here and Im thinking about buying Ace and thus would like to ask some questions about it first..
If I upgrade the firmware to the latest KPH 2.3.4 are there any problems in that firmware?
If I want to revert back to original Froyo then is it possible? If yes then where can i download the original Firmware?
Is 384 amount of Ram sufficient?I mean are there any lags or hiccups if many apps are running?
Is the 800Mhz CPU fast enough i mean is the UI snappy under it?
Are there any Custom ROMS available for Ace?If Yes which one is the fastest/snappiest?
That will be all
Thank You
The 2.3.4 update has small wifi bugs.
You could revert to 2.2 froyo with a flashtool and the firmware is provided in Samfirmware.com
The ram is good in froyo but in gingerbread there're appkills in background when you play games.
800mhz is quite snappy but if you're big on performance then you'll have to go for expensive phones like galaxy s or s2, nexus, or htc high-ends.
The development section of the phone is rather young so custom roms are not that far from stock firmware as yet, but the phone has potential. If you're looking for a medium-spec phone this may be a good choice.
Thank me if I helped in any way in your decision

Ohkay thanks for a early reply
So Froyo is lighter compared to Gingerbread?
And is Code.ROMv1 good rom?
What about Villian Rom?
are these faster compared to KPH?

Coderom is great mainly because of the darktremor app2sd support, extending the memory for app download. Villianrom is lightweight so I guess it should be faster than stock KPH..
I'll still prefer stock froyo if not for the app2sd support in coderom (am using that now)
hi guys, i have been trying custom roms on my galaxy ace since i got it and that was about november. im a geeky tech guy and love tweaking my gadgets to get the maxium out of them. and as i dived into the andriod side of things for the first time, i stumbled across the xda website and found out how to update my mobile to the latest custom roms and leaked stocked roms very quickly and found it very simple. " and also rewarding ". but i only signed upto the xda forums today "shame on me i know" but i just wanted to thank the guy who posted this basic rom for my galaxy ace. i found it today , iv tried ics lagacy, myth ics, cyrogenmod "if thats what its called" and a few others. none of them satisfied my speedy needs as much as this rom did, its based on 2.3.7 stock or somthing. but its just made my day realy, and i had to just say a big thanks to this guy. i put the latest blackhawk kernel on it and the results are awesome. even without the kernel it runs silky smooth all round. not to keen on the app laucher as i cant remove the other desktop windows 5 in all but i supose i can get a app dock laucher app* for something like that. well here is the link to anyone who has a galaxy ace and has tried all roms under the sun. try this one you will love it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447602 and again, big thanks to all the guys at xda and to the user slaid480 for posting this for our galaxy ace. p.s looking forward to seeing if someone can make ics for the galaxy ace as fast as this rom is. and i forgot to mention not that it probly matters but quadrent with my cpu at 902Mhz gives me 2401. max with past roms i got 1800 max. and only down side is the apps scroll up and down and not left to right " i liked that". but without having to bloat my ace down with theme apps this is probley the best rom by far. many thank again " one happy andriod owner
Hahaha I'm happy you liked the ROM
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.
i just added go-laucher as it no added themes and thats made it look alot better for me. and i deleted a couple of things with backup titianium, just the live wallpapers and such. and it is now at the point that im actualy happy to create a back up. is ther a easy way for me to back it up to a flashable zip for future flashing in the furure via cmw 4 or 5?
I don't think you can do that
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.
is ther anyway of doing it? via odin or such, be a shame to try future roms and if needed to revert back having to reflash a stock rom then add the AOSP rom and so on.
I see , I'll see what I can do
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.
awesome thanks
best rom i have used so far! battery life and the performance are good!
I have CM9 Installed on my galaxy ace, can I format with CMW5 and install this one?
I am on GB 2.3.7 MIUI, i've seen ICS is out 4.03 and 4.04 but i really dont like the GUI in it, maybe i am used to GB.
I see lots of people complaining on battery and speed of the rom, what are the benefits of ICS compared to GB in real world experience?

it will take some more time to see ics as stable as gb.

ICS going to be a big flop show for google They might release next version earlier
I have been running ICS for a couple of months now and I went back to gingerbread for a couple of days last week to see if I noticed any difference. I have to say ICS is a lot smoother with everything, and a lot faster say with rendering a web page than gingerbread was. I also just couldn't believe how basic and childish gingerbread looked. I will admit the new ICS scrolling mechanism got some getting used it but now I actually prefer it over gingerbread scrolling. Overall I feel that ICS is considerably faster, especially with web browsing, and a huge amount smoother thanks to it's hardware acceleration. I would strongly recommend that you move to ICS, it really does feel like I have a new phone especially running cm9. I hope this helps you
Yet apart from the stock browser i feel ICS is a childish blue upgrade to GB and i dont actually find it or any of the ICS custom roms faster or anything and certainly no improvement over my current set-up .

You have to wait for a few more weeks, you do know that it is a major upgrade and not like froyo to gb . So it does take time to optimize and stabilize the roms .

Essential that is usually true of all firmware but i am not impressed with Samsung's version of ICS so far .
What is under the bonnet may be fine but the bodywork is as ugly as hell .
It all boils down to will i get any advantage with an update answer is so far no and i have tested every version released only to go back each time .Of course when JKay etc is up and running i may look again .

9100G on GB hangs daily, mine does freezing on camera use, download from market, during calls, on reboot due to media scanning, activate wifi or switch between 3G and edge. Battery drains to zero in 30 min. It also freeze when idle in pouch. When it freezes it becomes hot. Quite unusable as a phone not knowing any battery left unless i check it every 30 min. My LG Optimus is 1000times more stable. Now with ICS, it feels like a normal phone. No freeze for past 4 days, downloads. I'm not buying Samsung anymore once this S2 outlive its lifespan. Htc, ate, huawei, lg, or any Chinese brands. Six months before ICS stabilizes it. Now no complains except ram reduced from 1gb to 687mb after upgrade!
That rant is hardly typical of the other 19.999 Million SGS2 owners.
I think you need a dose of introspect.
What is a Govenor....
And I was wondering if I could find any REALLY light, fast, good ROMS...
I hope I can find some...
I'm really confused as to teh difference between, Govenor, kernel, and AOKP....
EH?
Hope you guys can explain this...thanks.
Hi i am on ICS and is perfect to me, but im considering updating to JB 4.1.2 because of the alleged Sudden Death fix of the new rom.
But im wondering this:
1) How the battery duration compares, using the same configuration on both ICS and JB 4.1.2, witch one last longer and how much longer?
2) Witch one uses more system ram?
3 Does JB 4.1.2 has any bugs or anything bad that ICS doesn't has?
jelly bean takes up more ram, cpu and battery..but is a lot faster than ics and doesn't have any bugs
Hope it helped
