When I ask how is the sound, I mean how loud is it? I left the EVO 3d for the photon and the photon is A LOT louder when played through the headphones Jack. Where as the EVO 3d seemed as though it wasn't as loud.
I will be buying this phone today but I will need the sound tone as loud as my ipod since this will be my main source for music now that I have Google music set up but the photon is as loud as my ipod if not louder wwhen played through headphones and in my car.

I can't say much about the sound while using the headphones since I've only done it a few times. It sounded loud enough to me. But I use this as my music player in my car all of the time. I have a fairly decent sound system in my car and can't turn this up all the way because it is so strong. I usually have it a couple of clicks below max, and I still get amazing sound out of it.

I can't speak to the phone's performance for car audio but the head phone experience makes this a phone a top contender, in my opinion.
I switched from the EVO 3D, and the difference is laughable when using head phones. People have said the Beats Audio experience is just bass heavy but I've noticed some good clarity in the highs as well.
Only draw back is you'll have to load your audio on the SIM card instead of using streaming services (Spotify, etc.). I don't think Beats currently kicks in with those.
It is much louder than my 3D was.

Take this as a caveat as I do not own the phone but I've been playing with phones for the last 2 months to figure out which one to buy - yea I over do it
-
The clarity on the razr is a wee bit better; the rezound is a lot louder. The photon is extermely good - maybe better than the razr (hard to tell since i could not compare them side by side) but the photon was better than the epic touch in terms of clarity.
-
The rezound is loud and 'clear' enough for me. With ear buds (I used kilips s2 to test) the rezound was extermely good; as good or better than the razr.
-
The evo-3d was a dog in many ways.
-
If I were you I would do what I did; go by verizon - plug in your earphones and test
-
The photon is a really nice phone (i really wanted an oled display; but I think - about 90% sure) I will go with the rezound over the epic touch, razr or gnexus. Just a trade off of pros/cons across the various phones. The big negative of the rezound for me is the dispaly visiblity outside. It is a lot better than the evo-3d but kind fo sucks comapre to the other phones i listed above.

If you want it to sound really good, make sure you get a good auxiliary cable for it. The best I've found (and I've tested way too many) is Auvio Stereo Audio Cable. A bunch of places have it, like Radio Shack or Best Buy. They're extremely tough (they have a braided wrap around the cord), sound amazing, and have a gold coating to ensure the sound is clear with no interference. They also seem to work with the stock music player using the Beats enhancer. Plus if you download the DSP apk and install it on your phone, you'll have even more ways to push more sound out of this.

+1 for monoprice. Only place to buy cables.
I edited my original post. It's Auvio, not Audvio. But anyway, they're only $15 for those cables. The best I've found and not what I would call expensive.
Anyone know how to raise the speaker volume levels for the LTE? I preordered 2 phones and both have very low volume when set to max and halfway there is no sound. Tried Volume+ with no improvements.
My Bestbuy has no phones to swap out.

I've seen so many mixed reports about the EVO LTE speaker. Some people say it's great and louder than their OG EVO 4G. Others say it's significantly more quiet.
I wonder what's going on with all the mixed reports? I suspect people are just inherently bad at judging audio. I wish we had more objective tests for smartphone speakers. All reviewers should use a loudness/dB meter with the phone at maximum volume, playing a standard sine tone, with the meter recording at a standard distance away from the speaker. Also check for clipping and find out the maximum volume where clipping doesn't occur. GSMArena is the only site I've seen that does a test similar to this, but they don't do it for every review unfortunately.
In any case, I would hope the EVO LTE speaker is at least as loud as the OG EVO's, considering that my OG EVO's speaker was too quiet in my opinion.
I strain to hear people when the volume is maxed out. I'd say that's pretty silly. I would expect to be able to hear easily at halfway. I can deal with it, but it is slightly disappointing.
I would say make sure you have nothing covering the speaker....I noticed while playing games the sound seemed low.....I moved my finger ever so slightly and holy crap I needed to turn that shît down!!! I have also heard that some cases are to blame....
Just my 2 cents......my speaker kicks some major a$$

I haven't tested this but you can try turning on Hearing Aids in Settings > Call > Hearing Aids. It says it will amplify in-call volume.

It's interesting that there is almost a 2 dBA difference between the HTC One X International and AT&T versions. That is enough of a difference to be easily detected by human ears. What is the explanation for this? Software differences? Standard process variation of amplifier and speaker components? Different circuits between the international and AT&T versions? Measurement error?
It also means we can't assume the EVO LTE will be the same. I wish Anandtech would review the EVO LTE.

Seriously though, I would try to exchange it if you can....mine is too loud and I have to turn it down all the time.
I dont know what speakers you guys are talking about but when I have a call on speakerphone it is very low. When I stream music it is also very low. Does anyone know why?
When im talking on the phone regularly(right up to my ear), the volume is excellent.
Is there anyway to turn the settings up like we did in the EVO 3D?

I just compared the rear speakers on my EVO LTE vs my original EVO 4G. Both on maximum volume outputting the same audio.
The original EVO 4G was noticeably louder than the EVO LTE. It's sad that the EVO LTE (at least mine) has made such a regression, especially considering that the rear speaker on the original EVO 4G already wasn't sufficiently loud in my opinion.
Hopefully we come up with a fix for this.
I am also having volume issues both with speakerphone and in call with the phone up to my ear. I have to strain to hear the person on the other end when driving. This was not an issue with the og evo.
speakerphone on evo 4g lte is def. lower than OG Evo. I am experiencing the same issue.

can anyone describe the sound from the loud speaker? heard there is a feedback amplifier in the unit. is it any better than the one x? is there a huge difference?
I was decidedly unimpressed with the One X's sound. It was the first device I'd ever had with Beats Audio, so maybe my expectations were unrealistic. That said, the One X+ sounds quite a bit better to me.
im referring to the loud speaker at the back not the sound from earphones
That's what I was talking about too... I realize (now) that Beats Audio doesn't affect the back speaker, but when I first bought the OneX I saw the Beats logo and thought "oh man, this thing is going to sound great!" which didn't turn out to be the case.
is it noticeably louder than the original one x?
I think so, but I never compared side by side. I only had my OneX for about 7 weeks before I returned it and got the X+.

I had both for a week before I sold my One X and I can confirm that the loudspeaker sounds much better on the One X+ than the One X's. Compared to my girlfriend's Galaxy S3 it is not as loud but very close. I was impressed by the upgraded loudspeaker but like the One X if the phone is on its back the loudspeaker can become easily blocked which lessens the sound coming from it.
So to sum it up, louder than One X but not as loud as Galaxy S3.
Have you guys ever put your phone in a small water glass? Really does make it way louder!
Warning: Ensure the glass is dry!!!!!!

I noticed the speakerphone quality during calls is average at best? I am coming from a Motorola Atrix 4G which had crisp/clear speaker phone quality but with the ONE I get a lot of hissing and light static. Is that typical for HTC smartphones?

The speakers on the One are much higher quality than those on the Atrix. I would imagine if you are hearing more hiss, it's because of the higher fidelity audio. For example: When you use cheap $10 earbuds, music of all bitrates/quality sound the same. When you upgrade to high quality headphones you can actually tell when audio is low-fidelity. Voice calls are as low-fi as audio gets! The quality of connection, nearby radios, and what type of phone your partner is talking on all make a difference as well.
The system-wide Beats EQ could also be the culprit, but I don't have a One yet so I can't say for sure
I think the speaker on my one is pretty awesome. But my previous phone was an iPhone 4s. Sounds super clear and people on the other end don't even realize they are on speaker.

I agree about the static but for music and YouTube videos and movies I think it's quite awesome compared to any phone. The stereo sound coming out of the speakers has almost like a 3d effect to it.
As far as how the phone speakers sounds while speaking to someone else? I guess they sounds about as good as any good sounding speaker phone.
What kind of sound you expecting out of them?

It could be a defective phone, and/or
your carrier is not supporting HD VOICE
or ATT doesnt enable the HD voice on HTC One

Agreed! If the call sounds bad, its most likely the network considering this phone is designed for HD Voice.
The calls sound just OK when I have them on speaker. When it's silent I hear this faint hissing and static that I didn't hear on my Atrix, and sometimes voices sound muffled/static-y if the other person isn't speaking loud enough. I don't think there is anything wrong with the phone itself as the speakers sound fine when playing music. Like some of you said probably just a network thing.
maybe you can change your network and try again.
i think maybe you can change your Network operator and try again.
moto has Crystal Talk technology, and htc 's technology shorter than moto maybe/
Everyone knows the One has great sound. Since I don't know anyone who currently owns the One and don't think I can get a real feel in-store, can current owners give me a comparative opinion?
My frames of reference are the Galaxy Note 10.1 stereo speakers and the Nokia N8.
Thanks!
I had the nexus 10, which I think was supposed to have the same speakers as the galaxy note series.
The One's speakers are much fuller in terms of range and soundstage. Highs are higher and lows are deeper.
The only positive aspect of the N10/Note's speakers were that they were front spacing, quality wise they were relatively crappy-sounding.
I'm very pleased with the speakers, I will admit I thought they would be a little louder but the sound quality is impressive. If you disable beats the volume is a little greater Imo. I'd try to find a demo unit and mess with it.

I agree with the others. The sound is loud but also clear. My GS3 speaker would get loud but that was only if it was facing away from you or if the sound was reflecting off of something. While it was loud it sounded really distorted. The speakers on the One are loud and don't sound like a teeny tiny cellphone speaker. They sound like decent laptop speakers.

Is amazing how good and crisp they sound. One of those things that you think is overhyped marketing.....and when you see it in action you don't want to get another phone with rear speaker. Crisp. Clear. If music played has stereo quality it comes out as it should. Obviously, these are small speakers, but for the size it's amazing.

I love the speakers, they are loud, but not overbearing, the quality is much better than most others phones I have heard. Im happy I dont have to cup my hand behind the phone anymore just to hear the sound when im watching a youtube video. all in all, I think its the fact that the speakers are in front instead of on the back, it makes for a better user experience IMO.:good:
